LOCKED AND LOADED Patches aren't just handed to you anymore. You earn them. Plus six legendary patches, a full shakeup of the patch list, a rebuilt HUD, and some new stuff hanging from the ceiling. PATCH UNLOCKS New saves start with three patches: one to hit harder, one to stay a
PLAY BIG OR GO SMALL This is the big one. Darrell can now live in the corner of your screen, the VCR can leave the building, and there's a new kind of opener that I'm not going to spoil too much. Let's go. MINI MODE Hit the new MINI button in the title bar and the whole game shri
GOOD BOYS I said 0.4.1 might be the last one this weekend. I lied again. Here's a little polish pass, mostly for the dogs, because the dogs deserve it. THE DOGS The dogs don't all sound the same anymore. Baby Darrell's growl is adorably high-pitched. Scary Darrell's is not. The p
THE BOARD REMEMBERS This weekend I received a bug report. Since it wouldn't affect the vast majority of players I decided to just go ahead and do absolutely nothing just kidding of course I didn't do that. But fortunately I cut myself off after the bug fix and I'm totally lying a
PROJECT BEATDOWN Darrell has been punching things one at a time like some kind of gentleman. Not anymore. I sat him down, showed him a boxing tape, and now he won't shut up about "combinations." This update is about one thing: the beatdown. This is a big one, so strap tf in. EVER
BACK TO FUN STUFF, MOSTLY THE MINECART Every now and then, a floor opens with a minecart sitting in the path. JUMP IN or I'LL WALK. Your call. (It defaults to JUMP IN, because obviously.) Darrell rides it through the floor at speed, flattening everything that pops up ahead of him
LOG IN Big one. Achievements, save slots, cloud saves, and the whole front door got rebuilt. STEAM ACHIEVEMENTS 33 of them. A few are hidden. Some take five minutes. One takes a few hundred hours. Good luck with that one. Already deep in? Anything your save already proves (bosses
GNOME SWEET GNOME Ten new enemies, one very rare golden asshole, and a whole new sound for Darrell FM. I need a nap. NEW: 10 new enemies Every zone got two new faces, so the dungeon finally has some variety in it. The Moldy Cellar: Ruxley, a very sad teddy bear, and the Sporehead
THE SIGNAL The front door got rebuilt. The title screen, the first time you dial in, and Darrell's video all got a full pass. Anyways, more things: New trailer + screenshots There's a brand new trailer and a fresh set of screenshots up on the store page. Everything in them is the
THE SYSOP WANTS TO PLAY Big one. The sysop got bored, the dogs got pettable, and the blood got a LOT messier. Let's get that bread: NEW: Rock Paper Scissors The sysop doesn't just challenge you to tic-tac-toe anymore. Sometimes he yanks the channel for Rock Paper Scissors instead
Just a small patch this morning: Enemies now die in the hit. The punch that kills them freezes them mid-recoil, head snapped the way Darrell sent it, then they go green and fall apart right there. The old death poses are gone. They dropped behind Darrell where you could barely se
Last patch I said a right hook snaps their head left. The blood did. Their heads didn't. Now they do. This is a fun one, even if it's small it should have a pretty big impact. Because of all the punching. ENEMIES NOW TAKE HITS Every enemy now has real sprite poses for taking dama
THE ARCADE UPDATE Hey. Darrell is coming along nicely. I spent a lot of time on features, mechanics, balance, and other things that are super important to the player but also for me like staring at a spreadsheet for hours on end until my nose bleeds. Which brings me to this updat
This patch introduces Mastery. What's Mastery, you ask? Wow that's crazy I was just about to talk about it. PATCH MASTERY Your patches learn now. You gain mastery while a patch is equipped and enemies are killed. Tougher enemies grant more progress. Darrell uses the patch, the pa
New patch. New Darrell. Let's go: SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH THE FORK Every so often, a fork in the corridor doesn't look right. It flickers. It shouldn't be there. You don't have to pick it. You should pick it. (Darrell will be fine. Probably. Pay attention to what's in there.) DEAT
Happy Monday, if that's your thing. This patch isn't huge, but it does add something that should make boss fights a little more interesting (and potentially lethal). It also makes your patch loadouts a little more important depending on the fight. BOSSES HAVE PATCHES NOW Darrell'
Yeah so the last patch was pretty huge. Unsurprisingly, I found some stuff after further testing. Nothing major, but worth patching sooner than later. OOOH, SHINY! (actually shiny now) Gold enemies used to be tinted gold, so a green slime came out mildly jaundiced. Now they're pr
Darrell finally learned how RPGs work. I spent the last few nights trying to figure out why parts of my own game were pissing me off. Turns out the answer was progression. The old loop was: Darrell fights for hours, gets exactly zero stronger, then you come home to a pile of copp
ENEMY ATTACKS Enemies no longer have a subtle animated lunge on attack. I mean they do, but they used to too. Enemies now switch to an actual attack pose on attack. I'm saying the word attack a lot. Moving on. GREED OR GRIND Forks matter now. They're split between greed and grind
DARRELL RADIO Three stations, fifteen tracks, same Darrell. DARRELL FM . The shit I have been listening to for 6 months, one track at a time based on the zone. I can't take it anymore, and neither will you if I leave it there. AFTER DARK . Neon and bad decisions. Synthwave and st
