PLAY BIG OR GO SMALL
This is the big one. Darrell can now live in the corner of your screen, the VCR can leave the building, and there's a new kind of opener that I'm not going to spoil too much. Let's go.
MINI MODE
- Hit the new MINI button in the title bar and the whole game shrinks into a little window that parks in the corner of your screen and stays on top of everything else. Work, browse, watch something, and Darrell keeps fighting in the corner.
- It's built for the small window, not squished into it. Mini mode has its own clean HUD: the fight, both health bars, your XP and rage, and the opener prompt. Your loadout, the VCR and the options are all in a menu in the top-left corner.
- Town gets its own compact layout in mini mode: tabs for your loadout and each patch tree, a menu for the kennel, mastery and corruption, and SEND HIM DOWN always pinned at the bottom. The window grows taller while you're in town and shrinks back when he heads down.
- A slide-out drawer on the right shows your DMs, so you can catch up on whatever Darrell's been saying without leaving the corner.
- The VCR comes along too. Open it from the mini menu and it fills the little window, tape and all.
- Mini mode remembers where you put it and how big you made it, for town and the dungeon separately. Quit while mini and it opens mini next time, right where you left it.
- Don't want it on top of everything? There's a switch for that in the mini options, plus a reset if you ever lose track of it.
- WINDOW in the title bar takes you back to the full game whenever you want.
THE VCR POPS OUT
- The VCR has a new pop-out button. Hit it and the VCR becomes its own window. Drag it to another monitor, pin it on top, make it as big as you want. (It starts with a fresh deck, so pop it out first, then load your tape.)
- The pop-out window snaps to the shape of whatever you're watching, so no black bars. Widescreen movie, old 4:3 tape, it fits.
- Fullscreen means fullscreen now, even from mini mode.
- Your music still ducks when a tape is playing, wherever the VCR happens to be.
- In mini mode, the theater button becomes the pop-out button, since there's no room for a theater in the corner. One click and the VCR gets its own window.
- Play the game in one corner. Play a movie in the other. Or stack them right on top of each other for some super weird reason. Either way, build your perfect layout while you leave Darrell 3D a positive review. ;)
THE GOLD OPENER
- Every so often, an opener comes up gold instead of white. You'll know it when you see it.
- Hit it. Just trust me.
- Bosses get a taste of it too, just not the whole thing. They're bosses.
OPENERS AND STUNS
- Openers show up less often now. They were popping up so much they stopped feeling special. Now they're a moment again.
- A boss can no longer block an opener you hit. If you were there for it, it lands.
- The Ol Razzle Dazzle got reworked: every stun now lasts two turns instead of one.
- Saved by the Bell got reworked too: land a stun while you're under 25% HP and you refill half your health. It used to almost never go off. Now it saves runs.
- What the Crit's description now says what it actually does: one roll per combo, and the whole combo hits double.
DARRELL FM
- Five new tracks on Darrell FM.
- Full Contact is off the air for now. Darrell FM and After Dark are the two stations, and they got a new switch, each with its own little icon.
EVERYTHING ELSE
- Smaller windows actually work now. Below a certain width, the game used to vanish completely and leave you staring at the side panel. That's fixed, and the side panel tucks itself away instead.
- Menus can't get stuck off the edge of the screen anymore. If something's too tall, it scrolls, and the close button always stays put.
- The cursor feels a little more alive. Hover over something you can click and the screen lights up under your finger. Click, and you'll feel it.
Go put him in the corner. He's earned a promotion.
