LOCKED AND LOADED
Patches aren't just handed to you anymore. You earn them. Plus six legendary patches, a full shakeup of the patch list, a rebuilt HUD, and some new stuff hanging from the ceiling.
PATCH UNLOCKS
- New saves start with three patches: one to hit harder, one to stay alive, one to level faster. Everything else is locked.
- Every locked patch shows you exactly what unlocks it, with a progress bar. Kill things, eat things, take the hard lane, die a bunch. Yes, dying counts toward some of them. Darrell gets there on his own. Paying attention just gets you there faster.
- Unlocks are forever. They survive death, and they survive corruption. Once a patch is unlocked, it's in the shop for good. You still buy it with Patch Points.
- Loadout slots reset with each corruption again, so every boss pays out a slot on every climb. What carries over is what you've unlocked and the dogs you've rescued. Mastery resets along with your patches.
- A fresh unlock gets a big magenta banner, and a NEW tag in town so you can actually find it.
- Already playing? Every patch you've ever owned stays unlocked and keeps its mastery, and the deaths and bosses you've already racked up count toward the rest.
LEGENDARY PATCHES
- Six new gold-framed patches, locked behind feats that are hard on purpose. Some ask you to build a certain way. One asks you to die. A lot.
- Free Real Estate: for people who like to travel light.
- Glass Cannon: hits like a truck. Folds like a lawn chair.
- Juggernaut: blocking just got a lot more interesting.
- Spite: every death makes him a little angrier.
- Who's a Good Boy: for the pack.
- Ctrl+Z: you know what it does.
PATCH SHAKEUP
- I went through every patch and cut the ones that weren't pulling their weight: IDCLIP, A-A-Ron, Viewer Retention Algorithm, Their Time Up There, Rampage and Still Mad are gone. Two of them were actually making Darrell slower. If you owned any of them, you get your Patch Points back.
- Bottomless Pit merged into Hungry Boi: twice the food on every floor. If you had Bottomless Pit, you've got Hungry Boi now.
- Our Time, Down Here merged into Let It Ride: always takes the hard lane, and the hard lane pays more XP.
- Merged patches keep your mastery.
- Mugs, Not Hugs got reworked: every headbutt now knocks loose a chunk of the enemy's XP. Big gold number. You'll see it.
- Double Tap got toned down. It was carrying a little too hard. Master it and you get the old version back.
- Punching Up's description finally says what it does: double damage while you're losing.
THE DUNGEON
- Look up. The ceilings aren't empty anymore: flaming braziers, tattered old cloth, and the occasional cage with a former tenant still inside. He's not going anywhere. One leg still swings, though.
- Every zone has its own stuff hanging from the ceiling too. Roots, bones, kelp, meat hooks, and down in the basement, string lights. The Sysop decorated.
- Darrell isn't as alone down there as he thinks. Keep an eye on the fog.
- Wall decor repeats way less. You'll see everything a zone has before you see anything twice.
- Floor clutter is gone. If it's on the floor now, it's worth picking up.
- Food heals a little less. It takes five pieces to fill the bar now, not four.
- Buffs stack now. Grab a different buff and you keep the one you already had. Grab the same one again and it refreshes.
- Forks are snappier. The second a lane gets picked, by you, by the timer or by the game, Darrell turns and goes. No more standing around looking left and right.
- The fork sits right in the middle of every floor now. It used to show up a little early.
HUD
- The HUD got rebuilt into two docks. Top is the run and your build: how far down the floor you are, then your loadout in its own box. Bottom is the fight: XP, health, rage.
- Your loadout slots show each patch's name, what it does, and its mastery, so you can read your whole build at a glance instead of squinting at icons. Patch Points get their own box at the head of it.
- New magenta bar in the loadout box: the next patch you're closest to unlocking, what it takes, and how close you are. Hover the little ? to see what it does. It fills as you play.
- Your level and what the next one gives you sit right on top of the XP bar now, big enough to actually read.
- The XP bar no longer pulses before a big level. The ★ on the NEXT tab still marks milestone levels.
- The health boxes got rebuilt. The whole box is the health bar now, fighting-game style: Darrell's drains to the left, the enemy's mirrors it on the right, and the name and HP numbers ride a strip along the bottom.
- The damage text under the health bars is gone. The numbers flying off the fight already say it, and the combat log has the rest.
- The run bar is slimmer: a small floor label up top, stairs at the start to match the door at the end, and a clean split line where the fork is.
- Darrell's health box takes the hit when he does, same as the enemy's.
- The whole HUD is brighter. The old-TV shading stays on the dungeon now instead of dimming everything around it.
- Mini Mode got all of it too.
FIXES
- A headbutt stun now shows up the moment the headbutt lands, not at the end of the combo.
- The radio equalizer would stop dancing after a song change while the music kept playing. It dances now.
Go die 500 times. It's for a good cause.
