Main branch: 1.73 - for everyone The 1.73 build is now the main branch for everyone. Nothing to do; Steam updates it. On top of 1.72 it fixes a crash on Start from the SteamVR dashboard tab with a Varjo headset (report #95, thanks), the Steam build now carries the bridge that Unr
What's new in 1.72 Two things in this update we'd like to tell you about in particular. A second, sharper depth map for the centre. This update adds double depth processing: a second depth map made just for the centre of the picture. Later we plan to add foveated rendering for he
We sat down and read your reviews and the discussions on the store page, and this build is what came out of it. Most of it answers something one of you asked for or ran into. It is a big update, it is on the develop branch only, and we need your help testing it before it goes to
The 1.69 build is now the main branch for everyone. Nothing to do; Steam updates it. It is the one that ends "FlatVR just closes": two threads rescanned the list of depth models at the same time without a lock, one freeing a string the other was still writing to, which corrupts m
The 1.65 build that has been on the Develop branch since last week - the optimisation update: HAGS on the Status tab, the depth model in pieces paced to your frames, presets that watch the frames, the Cinema Mode fix - is now the main branch for everyone. Nothing to do; Steam upd
A regular update, about frame rate with AI depth on: hardware GPU scheduling on the Status tab, the depth model in pieces paced to your frames, presets that watch the frames themselves, and a set of fixes. How to get it: right-click FlatVR in your Steam library → Properties → Bet
The AI depth presets had never been measured against each other. They have been now, on real frames, and two of them were not producing a depth map at all. The whole ladder. Top row is the source frames; below them every Distill preset from the cheapest down to the reference, wit
Everything from 1.59 and 1.60 is in here too - those went out to the standalone build and never got a post of their own. Cropping black bars no longer stretches the picture. The crop worked only on the flat 2D path; with 3D on - which is how you actually watch a widescreen film -
Two small features: the app window is resizable now, and you can pick the output picture quality instead of always paying for the maximum. Fixed: Vive trackers no longer fire on a light touch of the grip - holding a controller normally kept triggering it. And a crash hunt, guided
Two crashes fixed. Stopping and starting FlatVR a few times in one sitting could bring the app down - a leak on every stop, introduced in 1.53, now gone. And restarting SteamVR while FlatVR was open could crash it the moment the runtime went away. The screen no longer judders or
The depth add-on now speaks Vulkan, not only Direct3D - so a flat game that renders through Vulkan can finally get depth instead of being turned away at the door. It ships with the app as version 2.3 - run the add-on setup again for each game you use it with , because updating Fl
Everything we asked you to test on Develop has landed on the default branch, along with the work that came after it. Thank you to everyone who ran it and told us what broke - most of the fixes at the bottom of this post exist because somebody reported them. If you switched to dev
We have pushed a big FlatVR update to the Develop branch and we would like you to test it. Here is what is new. If anything breaks or feels off, tell us - that is what the branch is for. Performance Mode: Cinema and Game One slider instead of a dozen settings. Pick Cinema or Game
Laptops with two graphics chips On most laptops the screen is wired to the integrated chip while the headset needs the discrete one, and Windows only lets a program copy a display through the chip that drives it. FlatVR could not capture the screen there at all. Monitor capture w
This cumulative update brings everything released between v1.33 and v1.42 : a rebuilt depth engine of our own, depth taken straight from games as old as the Direct3D 9 era, a room around the screen, the screen itself in your hands, and a panel that tells you what is wrong instead
v1.38 - released now Smooth Opening Fill : the seam beside a near object is gone - the gap one eye sees around an edge is now filled without a step or a duplicate. The depth stops breathing : the scale is carried between frames instead of being taken from each frame's own brighte
🧠 New AI Depth Models Lineup (Distill Any Depth) Higher Quality for Powerful GPUs : We have introduced a new lineup of heavy Distill Any Depth neural networks. Users with powerful graphics cards can now choose higher-resolution depth models (up to Ultra 1232x686) for significant
a New Rendering Algorithm, Now the Default Edges from the picture, not from the model : The depth map's edges are taken from the image itself instead of from a blur of the model's output, and each depth edge is resolved to one side of itself rather than smeared across it. Thin th
