Big news today for the Alt Shift team! After 3 years of development, we are so happy and excited to finally release our new game, Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes.
Scattered Hopes is a narrative and tactical roguelite where you take command of a gunstar and its fleet, escaping Cylons after their attack on Caprica. Your goal is to rejoin humanity’s last hope, the fleet led by the Battlestar Galactica.
View game pageThe game's design was built around three key elements: replayability, asymmetrical tactical combat, and tough choices.
Replayability: Scattered Hopes is a roguelite, in order to progress, you will play several runs, always different, thanks to procedural content inside a run, and also depending on your strategy and narrative choices, but also thanks to unlocks and upgrades between runs.
Asymmetrical tactical fights: You take the role of a military tactician, as Commander Adama, trying to get the most out of each battle. Fights are based on a “resist until you can jump” principle: the enemy force is so overwhelming that the objective is purely escape for survival, as in the TV show.
Hard choices and ambiguous decisions: Most decisions involve a life-threatening crisis. Most of the time, you don't have complete information on the situation, but have to make decisions under pressure. The consequences are sometimes difficult to anticipate; decisions have long-term repercussions, and are often not to the liking of all fleet members and factions.

A Narrative And Tactical Roguelite
Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes shares some common DNA with Crying Suns. At first glance, you might notice a visual connection between the two—a mix of 2D and 3D graphics, along with color palettes we’re particularly fond of.
The main similarity is that both games are space-themed tactical and narrative roguelites.
The setup: You command one of the many gunstars with their fleet, escaping Caprica after the Cylon’s attack on the Twelve colonies.
Your goal: Rejoin Humanity’s last hope, the Battlestar Galactica fleet, led by Admiral Adama.
The Gamefeel: Embody the role of a commander, under constant pressure, having to make the toughest decisions possible to survive, not only the Cylon chase, but also the threat from the inside… (the first pilot episode of the television show titled “33 minutes”, where the Battlestar Galactica has to jump every 33 minutes to escape the Cylon fleet , is pretty close to what we want as a gamefeel.)
Game core pillars:
Replayability: Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is a roguelite, so to progress, you will play several runs, always different, thanks to procedural content inside a run ,your strategy and narrative choices, and also unlocks and upgrades between runs.
Asymmetrical tactical fights: Following the footsteps of Adama, you take on the role of a military tactician trying to get the most out of each battle. Fights are based on a “resist until you can jump” principle: the enemy force is so overwhelming that the objective is purely escape for survival.
Hard choices and ambiguous decisions: Most decisions involve a life-threatening crisis. Most of the time, you don't have complete information on the situation, but have to make decisions under pressure. The consequences are sometimes difficult to anticipate; decisions have long-term repercussions and are often not to the liking of all fleet members and factions.
We won’t go into the game's details for now. We will keep that for a future post, but you can expect (as partly shown in the reveal trailer above):
Fleet management (resources management, situations, and crises management)
Space battles, real-time with tactical pause
Upgrades (within the game and between your runs with meta upgrades)
When Will The Game Be Available?
The release date has not been set yet, although it is expected in early 2026. Until then, we will probably recruit some beta testers for the closed beta phase.. If you are interested in playing early, don’t hesitate to join the Discord server here, we will communicate on it regularly.

WHAT’S NEW?
The “Advanced Tactics” update is a free extension that includes a wide series of new battle features and other support abilities:

New weapons, new squadrons, new auxiliary systems for battleships and brand new officers abilities.
Unlockable battleships are now equipped with a unique and specific technological modifier, requiring players to adapt their strategies depending on battleships’ strengths and weaknesses.
Players will also find additional neutral units on the battlefield that each opponent can “capture” to gain territorial advantage.
New AI enemy behaviors have been added, requiring players to carefully adapt and vary their tactical response.
Finally, players will find a new type of POI (points of interest) where they will be able to upgrade their squadrons: The “OMNI Forge”.
We also worked with our localization team to add a new language: Japanese!

You can now activate it via your Steam client:

What's New:
Here are the main changes that you will be able to test:

Each Battleship will have a specific technological modifier (that you can't sell) that will greatly impact the strategies and builds
Reworked all enemy battleship setups to use a larger array of weapons/officers/squadrons/auxiliary system and offer more variety and challenges
Player battleships have been reworked
Some difficulty settings have changed
A new type of POI where you can Upgrade you squadrons Marks: the OMNI forge
3 new categories of neutral units on the battlefield that can be "activated" during the fight.
8 new types of weapons with brand new effects
4 new auxiliary systems
5 new types of squadrons
3 new officers abilities
This beta is for both Windows and MacOs but only includes 64 bits versions for the moment.
This version already includes English, French, Spanish, German, Russian and Simplified Chinese, although you might find some visual glitches as we didn't finish our QA phase on the last 4 of them. We are on it.
About Save files:
An important info involving your save files: We manage the beta files in a different folder called "betaSaves" next to the normal game save. If you want to use save files from the normal version, you can paste those files in this new folder "betaSaves".
- On macOS, your save files are here:
/Users/%your_user_name%/Library/Application Support/unity.Alt Shift.Crying Suns/saves/save0
- On Windows, they are here:
C:\Users%your_user_name%\AppData\LocalLow\Alt Shift\Crying Suns\saves\save0
Bugs and feedback

Interface, Graphics and Sounds

[MAJOR] Added support for widescreen and a greater variety of aspect ratio (4/3, 21/9, 32/9, 16/10)
Improved the run customization screen to display patched squadrons properly in the list
Story, events and texts

Various small corrections and rewrites
BugFix Minor

Fixed an issue where the dialogue bubble was not placed properly on Sister Kalypso
Changed the planet displayed during run customization as it wasn't Gehenna
Fixed an issue where sometimes a "dead" squadron was still displayed in a dock as active

Various optimizations to lower memory consumption and reduce the game size on disk
Besides those changes, a much bigger update called "Advanced Tactics" is still under development as mentioned in previous posts, and should be released in beta testing within a few weeks, so a little later than expected. Here is a glimpse of what's to come:
