A small update to the Halloween event, plus a few things that were reading wrong in Chinese. Sweep the Street The scared Trick-or-Treater has a second request: clear out five each of the four ordinary creature varieties in the zone. He’ll pay 10 candy corn for it, and he’ll keep
Hello everyone! A Halloween portal has opened in Oakhaven, and it stays open through the end of October. Hallow’s Eve You’ll find it at the bottom of the portal list. Inside is a central chamber, four pathways, and four quadrants with something at the heart of each. West is pumpk
Hello everyone! This update covers one major thing: combat difficulty. Many of you have commented that the combat was too easy, and that there was no point grinding for gear when combat played out the same no matter what you did. I agree, and there are reasons for that. It’s a la
Hello everyone! The Portal Workshop rebuild is live. This is the largest change I’ve made to it since launch, and it touches almost every part of how you create and share your own realms. Before anything else: thank you to everyone who has given this game a shot, and who keeps se
Hello everyone! Short update. A Chinese player reported killing a level-76 monster in a residue portal as a level-28 character, which shouldn't be possible — and tracing it found that I'd missed something when I reworked XP on October 2. The reward paths I didn't trace The Octobe
Hello everyone! Two days after the levelling rework, here's a smaller but broader update. Most of it came from looking into things that turned out to be more broken than I expected. A Workshop bug that only affected Chinese players A player reported that a world he'd subscribed t
Hello everyone! This is a big set of changes, and most of it comes from one player writing a long, detailed post about why levelling felt bad past the mid-game. He was right, and looking into it turned up something I'd shipped incompletely in July without knowing. Scaling didn't
Hello everyone! The Clockwork Labyrinth is back, and it's a different thing entirely. A hand-built zone The old Clockwork Labyrinth was procedurally generated, like most of the portals. This one is written room by room: twenty-seven of them, a brass butler called Tocksworth who h
Hello everyone! A bigger update this time, and one where most of the work went somewhere most of you won't see it. Quest items no longer take up pack space Every quest item and key is now free. They still show in your inventory, marked QUEST, and the capacity line tells you how m
Hello everyone! A small technical update this time, and one I want to explain properly rather than bury in a list. The game opens about a third of a second sooner Back in June, when some players — mostly in China — were seeing genuine black screens and couldn't get the game to lo
Hello again! A smaller update this time, mostly fixes — including one that had been quietly telling players the wrong numbers for weeks. Celestial Rift's elites are finally elite Three monsters in Celestial Rift — the Corrupted Sentinel, the Corrupted Keeper and the Void Manifest
Hello everyone! Before anything else, I want to say thank you. More than 80% of Portalborn's players are Chinese, and your support, your reports, and your patience with a game built by one person have meant more to me than I can easily put into words. I've always intended for Por
Hello everyone! A lot of this update is about things that were quietly saying one thing and doing another. Pets that promised a bonus and gave nothing. A map that looked complete when you'd barely started. A help command that told you a topic didn't exist. None of it crashed anyt
Hello everyone! This one is mostly about the time between fights — and a fair amount of it is groundwork. Hero classes are going to need hazards that threaten a level-100 character, shrines worth walking to at any level, and a recovery rate that can be tuned rather than guessed a
Hello everyone! Mostly things I found while checking yesterday's two updates — plus one genuine addition that should have been there from the start. Changes look now inspects a target, exactly like examine. It was only ever reprinting the room. help look now has an article. It di
Hello everyone! A short update, and a fix for something a player found today. Fixed: Market listings were generated at the wrong level — most items required a level you may not have had, and cost more than they should have. Slayer token kills were not counting for characters with
Hello everyone! A smaller update after the last few, and mostly a corrective one. Two of these have been quietly wrong for a while and one of them has been costing people gold, so they're worth explaining properly rather than listing. The Changes Typing part of a skill name now r
Hello everyone! A smaller update, and a documentation one. The elemental system has been in the game for a while now with no explanation anywhere outside the patch notes it arrived in — and patch notes sink out of sight. So it now has a proper page in the Player Guide. The new pa
Hello again! A quick follow-up to yesterday's update. Two text problems, both promised within 24 hours, both now fixed. Skill descriptions Nine skills listed both their element and "physical damage" in the same description, which contradicted itself. Five of those were the skills
Hello everyone! This update is focused almost entirely on combat — how much damage you take, how long your abilities actually last, and how your skills interact with an enemy's turn. There are also a number of interface and reliability fixes along the way. This change list is qui
