Developer posts and news about this game.
Fixes Dropdown menus no longer close on their own a moment after you open them. Picking a match mode, arena, region, match length, goal target, voice option or graphics quality now works normally instead of snapping shut before you can choose.
New A new welcome message now appears when you launch Kickabout to make it clear that this is an early, work-in-progress playtest. You can now open the Kickabout Discord invite directly from the welcome screen or copy the link, making it easier to join the community and share fee
Fixes The keybind settings menu now keeps its selected-button highlight after using the scrollbar or switching keybind categories, so focus no longer jumps to the top or bottom menu buttons.
New Controller players can now move through the menus without touching the mouse, with clearer focus highlights and reliable controller navigation across settings, match setup, training, and other menu screens. Gamepad controls now show Steam-style button prompts in the controls
New Goalkeepers punch! A braced save now throws a real directional punch with sound and camera impact — deflections used to happen in complete silence. Committed dives put glove force behind the parry: a flying save steers the rebound wide with the dive and punches it harder, ins
Improvements Right-click flicks now play a proper foot animation — your player reaches out and strikes the ball with the top of the boot instead of a canned swing. Dribbling and flicking keep the ball tighter to your feet, so close control feels snappier. The football is now a re
New Bigger matches: you can now create and join rooms all the way up to 7v7 (14 players). The room's player limit scales with the mode you pick, from 1v1 up to 7v7.
New Brand-new player models in proper team kits — your Steam name and number now appear on the shirt (back and front) and on the shorts. Each side wears its team colour (blue or red), and goalkeepers get a distinct kit with gloves and a deeper shade.
Improvements Online play now verifies your Steam ownership when you connect, so matches are protected from unauthorized clients.
Fixes After a goal, the ball now drops into the net and settles instead of freezing in mid-air. Quitting to the menu while a goal replay is playing no longer leaves your avatar stuck on the menu, or stops your next session from loading.
New You can now rebind your controls. The settings menu has a new Controls tab to remap every keyboard and mouse action, and your settings are grouped into category tabs. Improvements Control hints now show a mouse icon with the assigned button highlighted in red — in the trainin
New Hold Tab during a match to open a player list grouped by team, showing each player's name and whether they are playing keeper or outfield. Fixes Attackers can no longer shove the defending keeper into their own goal. Keepers now hold their line properly when players collide o
Improvements Voice chat now does more cleanup before playback and is more forgiving of uneven network delivery, so voices should sound steadier with fewer clipped or warbly moments. Voice distance falloff is gentler, making nearby players easier to hear while still preserving pos
Fixes Voice chat is much more reliable: fixed the mic cutting out partway through talking, short audio dropouts, and clipped or warbly speech — especially when more than one teammate is talking at once.
Improvements The push-to-talk mic indicator is now a clear microphone icon shown just above your stamina bar, and it lights up green when your mic actually picks up your voice — so you can tell at a glance that you are being heard. Settings now explains where to choose your audio
New Voice chat: hold V to talk to other players in an online match. You hear teammates positionally from their avatar, so a shout tells you where they are — even across the largest arena. The host picks a Voice Mode when creating a match — Off, Teammates only, or Everyone — fixed
Fixes Joining a match — or picking your team — during a goal celebration or replay no longer desyncs the match or leaves you stuck on a low camera or floating at your spawn. Late joiners now settle straight into the action. Player nameplates now hide during goal replays, so the b
Improvements Player nameplates redesigned for readability — a cleaner team pill with a charge bar that fills as you power up a shot and blinks when it's fully charged, and the plate now keeps a sensible size and shape whether the player is near or far. Goal nets are now a deeper
New New FREE PLAY mode — a solo, offline practice sandbox. Drop straight onto the pitch alone with a ball and open nets: no clock, no score, no opponents, and it never ends. Choose your arena size — Small, Medium, Large or XL — before you start. Serve yourself any ball on demand
New Powerful shots now take about a second to wind up, so a keeper can read a shot building and commit to a save in time — a quick tap still fires instantly. Every player's nameplate shows a charge ring that fills from green to amber to red as they wind up a shot, so you can see
