Haven't been available much to communicate becuase of family & housing stuff i've had to work on

first just to clear up some potential confusion:

- The Hades style prototype is for a sequel coming out after this game's 1.0. The prototype is extremely outdated though. Spellbook 1 will remain an auto-shooting game.

- The update that changed the knockback system and adds the 2nd character has actually been out for a few months, but I didn't draw attention to the launch of it. That update is not the "1.0" update.

here are some of the things coming in the next update:

Replaced Spellbook system, books now have unique "Signature Spells" that cost Mana. Regular spells still do not cost Mana, only Signature Spells.
Dual book upgrade can be found during runs allowing you to run 2 books & Signature Spells at the same time.
New Auto-attacking dual-wielding weapon system. Attacks generate Mana, and can be Charged. You can swap between 2 equipped weapons instantly with a button press.
New Weapon Fusion system to customize and extend their combos. All weapons can have their attacks replaced with those of any other weapon, letting you combine their unique abilities with any moveset you want. You can also slot Instant Attacks in between your regular combo attacks. These often come with bonuses like applying status effects on hit.
New "Augments" system: Lets you socket upgrades into your spells and abilities to add effects. Spells begin with no Augments, but each Ability comes with 1 starter Augment. As you equip new Augments in runs you will also unlock them to use as your starting augment as well, offering lots of horizontal progression.
New Level Up System: The character you aren't playing as brings you reward portals of various types. That character can also be customized each run with utility upgrades.
New Battle Modifiers System: After you level up you are given a choice between a few different portals to continue through. Some of them will add additional risk/reward effects onto combat, letting you scale the intensity to your liking.
New Wall Slam system: Damages and staggers enemies when you bounce them off walls and objects with Knockback. (Stagger is also new)
New "Devour" system: Strong enemies are crystallized on death. Devour their corpse within 13 seconds to make the crystals explode. The crystals are also objects that can block or Wall Slam enemies. Devour is considered an Ability, so it can be socketed with Augments.
New "Shapeshift" System: Hold the dash button to shapeshift into Astral Fox Jeanne, draining Mana to greatly reduce your hitbox size. Shapeshifting also happens while you are Dashing, but regular dashes no longer cost Mana. The Mana drain only begins if you continue Shapeshifting after the Dash ends. Shapeshifting is an Ability that can be socketed with Augments.

Runs in this new system can be far more different than they can now, even without taking build archetypes into consideration. You can have runs focused entirely on weapons, on basic spells, on signature spells, focusing on any of your abilities, or mixing and matching any of them freely. Then within all of that, you also have archetypes like building into various status effects, elemental effects, and so on.

The previous version of the game is nothing compared to what this will be.

The new update also has a lot of improvements to fundamentals like:

New tooltip system that displays info about your stats, detailed info on attacks & spells, and also displays a box of all upgrades you have that share the same tooltip. You can press the "View Embedded Tooltips" button to dig into these tooltips and view the tooltips of the upgrades that are being displayed inside the original tooltip.
New text system that shows before & after info about stat changes on upgrades.
Good controller support (i now play mainly on controller)
Fully rebindable controls
Overhauled aiming. On controller, simply aim with the Right Stick to instantly take control with manual aim, then let go of the stick again to immediately switch back to autoaim. On keyboard and mouse, hold or toggle the "Aim With Mouse" button to seamlessly switch between automatic and manual aiming.
New camera and lock-on systems
Redesigned every UI in the game
Improved fonts and colors
Expanded options menu
New Stats & Stat reworks (especially Energy Shield)
A bunch of new music by artists like Novander, including existing songs like LOTUS and VICIOUS and new original tracks created for the game.

New Character: Skye

The Cosmic Library has given you authority over Skye's restraints, allowing you to control her on the battlefield. Skye has access to a new dash ability:

Demon Cleave

Cut down enemies with the Demon Blade at the start and end of your dash. All mana is spent to enhance & repeat the effect against nearby enemies.

Knockback System Rewrite

The knockback system has been completely rewritten to be bouncier, more dynamic, and way less performance intensive. This has a bigger effect on the gameplay than you might expect.

The old system caused runs to only ever be in a state of winning or dead, which made the game turn mostly into a math equation. Now you can properly use knockback & dashes to push through rough patches while you try to get an upgrade that swings the run back in your favor. Revives feel more useful because of this, and the game feels much more "gamey".
When you take damage, the enemy that damaged you will be knocked back by a set distance.

Enemy Movement Changes

Enemies are now much less likely clump into overly-tight clusters.
Enemies are now more capable of surrounding you. This is a good opportunity to use the new knockback system to push your way through.
The player hitbox is now smaller, making it easier to weave through crowds.

Smuggler's Shrine Change

Smuggler's Shrines now either offer you 4 spells or 4 upgrades when completed, instead of 1 spell and 3 upgrades.
Rerolls for Illegal Spells and Illegal Upgrades are now 2 separate buttons, making it much less expensive to find what you want.

Progression

Drop rates for demons and charms have been doubled.
Increases to Max Corruption now accelerate at higher amounts.
Most difficulty options have been condensed into 1-point toggles instead of multiple points. (You should review your difficulty settings if you are playing below max difficulty)
"Bullet Hell" Malice modifier effect has been combined with "Escalation" as a single modifier.
"Ritual" Oblivion modifier total exp penalty on Banish changed from -60% to -50%.
"Ceremony" Oblivion modifier total exp penalty on Reroll changed from -60% to -30%.

Balance Changes

You now gain +2 Max Level for each point of Oblivion.
The EXP curve has been changed: Levelling requires more EXP between levels 20 - 60, but less EXP before level 10 and after level 60. At level 80+, all levelups require the same amount of EXP. Roughly the same total amount of EXP is required to hit 125 as before (but 175 is the new 125, so hitting that will take a bit longer).
You now must kill all elites before overtime will begin. Normal enemies still spawn during this time so you can trigger on-death effects, but EXP gems will stop dropping from them until overtime begins.
Enemy projectiles no longer become ridiculously fast in endless, but they have higher base speed.
Elite enemies no longer gain increasing amounts of armor.
Corrupted Shrines no longer spawn in the first map.
Adjusted the enemy waves of each map.
Aura: Cybernetics has been changed to give -13% Max HP instead of +4% Max HP Reservation.
Aura: Deathbound, Evolution: Passion and Warfare has had its Max Level bonus while Second Chance is unequipped increased from +3 to +13.
Aura: Juggernaut now grants +20% Knockback and +7 Max HP insted of +13% Knockback and +13 HP.
Arcane Aura: Cremation now also grants +13% Projectile Size.
Illegal Upgrade: Dragon Chaser now also grants +30% Buff Effect in addition to summoning 7 shrines.
Illegal Upgrade: Grim Row has been changed into an Arcane Aura.
Illegal Upgrade: Overclock has been changed to an Arcane Upgrade. It now grants +7 Max Level, +2 Rerolls, and +1 Overlevel.
Illegal Upgrade: The Best Defense now grantes +20% Damage Reduction instead of +13%.
Illegal Upgrade: Brilliance has been changed to +77% Light Radius, -13% Exp Gain
Illegal Upgrade: Upgrades that rely on stats that they don't offer themselves now only appear if you have the related stat.
Illegal Upgrade: Nines now gives -99% HP instead of -999% HP.
Upgrade: Defiance now reqiures the 7 Malice achievement to unlock.
Upgrade: Second Chance now requires the 77 Malice achievement to unlock. Its cooldown is now 13 seconds instead of 7.

Other Changes

"Brain Tease" and "Bulk Up" lesser upgrades can now appear if there are any empty slots in your upgrade list, instead of only when the list would be empty.
The maximum number of elites on screen at once has been increased from 13 to 50.
Spirit Shield has been renamed to Phantom Shield

Fixes

Various bug and crash fixes. Some notable fixes include:

Fixed autoaim bug causing each shot to have a chance of firing in a random direction.
Fixed issue where demons would be equipped/unequipped when manually levelling them up.
Fixed issue where regular enemies could get teleported offscreen at random.
Fixed issue where offscreen enemy culling would sometimes fail to activate.
Fixued issue where some enemies would fail to spawn from spawn notifications.
Save data stability improved.

Once I get a good feel for the new state of the game with the builds that people are playing on this version, I will be adding more upgrades and spells to support as many playstyles as possible.

New Permanent Upgrades / Enemy Spawn Change

The Expel mechanic changes how you interact with demon spawns. Instead of taking a hit because a demon spawned too close to you, now you will be rewarded with bonus experience.

Permanent Upgrade: Expulsion
This upgrade causes demons to be Expelled when you touch their spawn notification, teleporting them away and dropping an Experience gem.

Strong enemies now have larger and differently colored spawn notifications.
You can now also purchase two points of +13% Demon Spawn Warning Duration in the upgrades menu.
Astrid's Time Dilation passive now grants +50% Demon Spawn Warning Duration
Spawn notifications now have a different animation instead of flashing.

You might want to turn off Damage Numbers if you are focusing on Expel a lot, to make it easier to see.

Ultimatum

You can now earn greater rewards using the Ultimatum system. Increasing the Ultimatum amount at a Corrupted Shrine will Spawn another shrine with increased rewards and difficulty, but enemy damage is permanently multiplied by +7% and yours by -7%.

Each step in an Ultimatum is harder & longer than the previous, and new Corrupted Shrines that spawn during it will become a part of your current Ultimatum. The Ultimatum ends when you choose an Arcane Upgrade.

Ultimatums will reward you with Charms, Demons, Astral Flowers, and Upgrade Chests, as well as a large amount of recovery orbs. The rewards are weighted towards Charms and Demon Chests.

Illegal Spell Selection

You can now choose what spell you want to replace when taking an Illegal Spell at the Smuggler's Shrine.

Treasure Upgrade Auto-Confirm

You can now enable an option that automatically skips treasure chest upgrade interfaces. A notification will be shown below your spells instead.

Rampage

Rampage is a new effect that grants +1.3% damage and +0.7% Movement Speed per stack (Max: 100). Drains rapidly if you haven't gained any Rampage recently.

The time it takes before Rampage begins draining is extended if you gain multiple stacks at once.

Changes & Fixes

De-Yandere'd a bunch of the stat calculation code.
Damage values over 1 million on stat displays are now shortened like "584.23m".
More spell info is now shown on the pause screen.
The Demon Summoning screen has been reorganized.
The description for spell ugprades above level 10 has been changed to "Base Damage +10%" instead of "Spell Damage Multiplier +10%". This is only a text change, the mechanic itself has not been changed.
Breaking the spell limit with Overlevel now shows the over-limit spell on the HUD.
The Overlevel button now displays the Overlevel tooltip.
Fixed an issue where Vella would only be unlocked if the spell you had 4 copies of had one of its copies in the first spell slot.
Fixed an issue where Time Splicer's damage bonus was only applying in increments of 100%.
Fixed an issue where Elite demon armor scaling was not working properly.
Fixed an issue where Goblin's demon equip bonuses were not being applied.
Fixed an issue where spawn notifications could spawn very far offscreen.
Fixed an issue where Sigma Stance's description said 33% instead of 30% (this is only a text change, the effect itself has not been changed).
Fixed an issue where Corrupted Shrines would sometimes not display the required amount of kills.

New In-Run Upgrades

Illegal: Unencumbered Rage

The inverse of your Armor is also applied to: Max Rampage.

Illegal: Mana Storm

Each Rampage stack also grants: Mana Recharge Speed +0.7%.

Aura & Effect Changes

Mending

Now has "+1.3% HP Regenerated per second" instead of "Regeneration +1.0".

Bloodletting

Now has "+1.3% HP Regenerated per second" instead of "Regeneration +1.0".

Samsara

Now has Max HP +13% instead of Max HP -13%.
Mutation: Life In Death now also has "For each used and remaining Revive: Max HP +13."

Nightshade

Now has "Critical Multiplier +25%" instead of "Critical Chance +7%".
Unbinding cap increased from 7 to 9.

Tailwind

Mutation: Rat Race now also has "When you Expel a demon, reset the duration of all demon spawn warnings."

Revengeance

Now has "When you Expel a Demon: Trigger Revengeance." instead of "Revengeance also triggers when you Dodge.
Now also has "When you trigger Revengeance: Gain 1 Rampage.
Unbinding cap increased from 7 to 9.

Velocity

Mutation: Fission now also has "When you break an enemy projectile: Rampage Gained: +7".

Deathbound

Now has "Demon Spawn Notification Rate +7%" instead of "Enemy Damage +7%".

Deadly Aim

Mutation's "Critical Chance added as Base Damage" increased from 10% to 13%.

Acrobatics

Mutation: Silent Assassin now Expels demons instead of killing them.
Mutation: Silent Assassin's 7% HP reduction against elites that you dodge now only activates while Dashing.
Unbinding cap reduced from 2 to 1. This Aura was contributing too much towards reaching the Dodge cap, but the individual levels do not need to be reduced in power. This makes room for more of this stat in other places.

Fortification

Demon Armor loss is now equal to your armor instead of double, to be more in line with current Armor values.

Ground Effects

Most burning ground now lasts half as long, but deals its damage twice as fast.
Shocked ground now triggers its lightning bolt twice as fast.

Shadow Mine & Reaper Mine

Now triggers the oldest mine when a large amount of mines are placed, instead of deleting it.

Monsoon

Now has "Movement Speed applied to Base Damage: +100%" instead of "Launches 2 additional balls".
Ball Damage increased from 30% of base to 100% of base.

Overcast Sigil

Multi-Projectile Delay increased from 0.3 to 0.4
Secondary Projectile damage increased from 50% to 75%.

Indra's Sigil

Multi-Projectile Delay increased from 0.3 to 0.4

Quality of Life Improvements

Global bonuses from spells are now shown in gold to make them easier to notice. NOTE: Global bonuses are kept for the rest of the run, even if the spell is replaced or lost.
You can now access the Demon Summoning menu from the Compendium, including during a run (but you can't modify demons during a run).
Tooltips now work in menus, and some missing tooltips have been added.
Keyword tooltips have been added for Recovery Orb, Demon Summoning, Demonic Choker, Global Bonus, and Extra Stat.
There is now a compendium section for Keywords.

Spell Changes

Illegal spells now gain 1 bonus level when learned. NOTE: Remember that you always keep Global Bonuses. When Illegal spells are auto-levelled on learning them, it includes their level 6 Global Bonuses. This means you can get them more than once by switching an illegal spell back and forth, or build up a variety of bonuses by transforming across many diferrent spells.
Meltdown's armor reduction aura boosted from -2 to -7.
Meltdown's level effect now grants a global bonus of -7 Armor to demons within your Light Radius, instead of setting the armor reduction aura to -13.
Throne of Darkness level 6 bonus changed from "Demons in Spell Area are Slowed" to "Effect against demons in your Light Radius: Movement speed -13 (Global Bonus)".
Blood Spark now grants "Recovery Orb Drop Rate +25% (Global Bonus)" at level 6.
Toxic Blizzard now grants "Illegal Spell Damage Multiplier +25% (Global Bonus)" at level 6.
Shrinkage now grants "Damage Reduction applied to Freeze Duration: +50% (Global Bonus)" at level 6
Indra's Sigil now gains 1 secondary projectile per 50% Crit instead of per 100%.
Thunderswarm's Base Damage per Chain increased from 3 to 5.
Thunderswarm's Global Base Damage per Projectile at level 10 increased from +1 to +2.

Other Changes and fixes

Strong Hellhounds (the ones that dash) are now slowed more when Frozen. The description of Freeze has been changed to be more accurate to how it actually works (it is a slow that can hit 100%, not a binary can/can't move).
Fixed a crash and performance hit caused by too many treasure chests being onscreen at once.
Pickup Range and Knockback have had their positions corrected on the stat display

New achievements for the recent added content will be coming in a future update!

Demon Summoning

Summon demons, trapping them inside of a Shrine to massively boost your power!

Upgrades > Unlock "Corruption"
Win a run with at least 7 Corruption to unlock Demon Summoning! Reaching 46 Corruption will get you 7 demons at a time. You don't need to maintain a Corruption level to keep the unlocked Demon slots
Find Red Demon Chests to unlock more Demons Mainly drops during overtime
Level up demons to increase passive stats and summon duration Level up demons using Astral Flowers, or by summoning them if you successfully finish a run.
Find Demonic Equipment Equipment such as Demonic Chokers can be equipped into demon slots.
Find Overdrive Chips to limit break demons beyond level 100!

Drop rates are higher in the main game than they were in Beta.

Corruption Difficulty Scaling

Complete a game with Max Corruption to increase the Corruption limit
Each Corruption grants enemies +1% Damage, +2% Protection, -1% Knockback
Each Corruption level also increases the Score Multiplier by 5%.
Corruption increases the Demon Chest drop rate

Oblivion Modifiers and Charms

Oblivion difficulty options are unlocked after surviving for 20 minutes with 77 Malice
This is a new set of advanced difficulty options that massively increases the available challenge.
Increasing Oblivion allows higher rarity Charms to drop. You can equip 3 Charms.
To get Voidslayer rarity charms, you need to stack Malice and Oblivion.

Dashing Enemies

Certain enemies will now dash towards you to close the gap. The overall difficulty of enemy projectiles has been toned down to make room for more types of enemy behavior.

The "Hasted" elite modifier has been renamed to "Drifter", and now also allows the buffed elite demon to dash at you. Demons can shoot you while they're dashing, so make sure you watch out for dangerous combinations!

Enemy Spawn Notifications

Enemies can now also spawn directly onto the map, instead of only from offscreen. A quick warning will show you where enemies are going to appear.

Increasing your Light Radius will make demons spawn further away from you.

Health & Mana Orb Drops

Stronger enemies now drop orbs that refill your Health and Mana! This recovery is instant and is not considered Regeneration.

Spellbook Passive Buffs

Most spellbooks have been buffed in ways that allow them to scale further into endgame, or reach it more reliably.

Tammy

ːsteamthisː Passive 1: Adds a +7% Critical Multiplier bonus onto every Shrine, which improves with Buff Effect. Particularly good with String of Ears!
ːsteamthisː Passive 2: Now also adds a 13% chance to get 3 upgrades from treasure chests. There is also a summonable demon that allows you to spawn treasure chests, working nicely with this effect.

Speare

ːsteamthisː Speare is stronger than you'd think on first glance, but is missing a bit of juice and early game. Her starter bonus has been upgraded to also have Spell Projectile Amount +1.

Wolfe

ːsteamthisː Passive 2: Now also reduces Aura Evolution level requirement by 25%.

Jeane

ːsteamthisː Passive 1: Now grants a 7% HP bonus per revive instead of flat +7 HP.
ːsteamthisː Passive 2: Now also adds a 50% chance to duplicate buffs stolen from Elites.

Astrid

ːsteamthisː Passive 1: This passive gives +3% damage for each Astral Flower gained. This has been indirectly buffed because you gain Astral Flowers at a much faster pace in this update.

Berry

ːsteamthisː Passive 1: Chance to remain at the same level on levelup increased from 10% to 13%.
ːsteamthisː Passive 2: Buff effect per collected treasure chest increased from 2% to 3%. It is also now possible to spawn more treasure chests than before due to Demon Summoning.

Sly

ːsteamthisː Passive 1: Now also converts 50% of Movement Speed into Critical Chance.

Eden

ːsteamthisː Starter Spell: Fixed a bug where Shadow Mine and Reaper Mine were not being affected by any damage bonuses.

Spells now grant additional global bonuses at level 10, giving you more ways to scale your build.
