Since we finished story campaign during releasing several Content Updates, the 1.0 release set for Q3 2026 - is mostly a marketing step, giving us the space to build the visibility for the game and do final small touches to the game.

Added "The Vault": 13 new "cut" levels, concept art, soundtrack, development history materials.
Added French, Italian, and German language support.
Added an anisotropic filtering setting.
Added an FPS lock/unlock setting.
Added a setting to disable black outlines (cel-shading).
Added PS5 gamepad support.
Added 2 new gamepad layouts.
Fixed an issue where reloading would still be counted if the player quickly switched weapons during the reload.
Fixed issues with some pickups disappearing after loading the game.
Enemies no longer fly off in a random direction after death.
Reduced the minimum gamepad sensitivity, allowing the player to walk and move the camera more slowly and precisely.
Fixed an issue where Dog could play voice lines during dialogues while he was the one speaking.
Fixed Luzilian’s attacks during the final phase of the boss fight when playing at low FPS.

Dear friends, we messed up the update timeline - this is entirely our fault. We overestimated our capacity and thought we could deliver faster.
This update turned out to be really tough to develop: tons of complex cutscenes, each requiring massive work, a challenging boss fight, and more. Working with voice actors, as always, takes time and careful planning, and this time added even more complications due to cutscene scripts and dialogue that we kept reworking throughout development.
As a small team, we sometimes push too hard and think we can get everything done faster than reality allows.

Instead, we’ll be releasing the Story Campaign Finale as Content Update #4 ahead of the full release, because it’s the better path for the game, and it gives us the time for some small fixes and final touches.
Story Campaign Finale Content Update #4 is scheduled for February 2026 and will include two final levels, bringing the story campaign to its conclusion.
This means players looking forward to the full campaign can jump in this February. The 1.0 release now set for April 2026 - is mostly a marketing step, giving us the space to build the visibility for the game and do final small touches to the game.

Game settings have been moved to a separate file. This was done to fix an issue where some players’ settings would reset.
Fixed lighting bleed-through problems through doors on all levels.
All doorways in the game have been improved - now there should no longer be situations where one half of a double door appears open while the other does not.
Weapons are now sorted when picked up (when selecting the melee slot, the knife will now always be chosen before the fists).
Fixed translation of some subtitles.
Card readers no longer have overexposed lighting.
Fixed UI graphics when picking up items - item frames no longer overlap.
Fixed the assault rifle icon when picking it up (previously it showed the old rifle icon).
Added a fist animation at the start of levels.
Added the ability to inspect the knife by pressing the reload button.

Doors now open only when you press the interaction key (per player feedback). You can re-enable automatic door opening in the game settings.
Sprint is no longer canceled when entering the Super Shop or an Arcade Game.

You’ll be thrown into a wild ride full of chaos: crypto-mining madness, hostile aliens, giant monsters, armed vloggers, piranha death traps, bank robberies, crocodile concerts (yep, that’s real), and a ton of other unhinged surprises.
Also you’ve got explosive vehicle mayhem, a wild west motorcycle ride, and a bunch of insane cutscenes to keep the chaos flowing.
And if you’re a fan of classic shooters — keep your eyes peeled. The game’s packed with Easter Eggs and nods to old-school FPS legends.

Reasoning behind game Re-Announce:
The game has evolved and moved so far from its original concept over 5 years of development that it could now be called Totally Updated Brutal John, or simply Brutal John 2. No more lame John you remembered from 2022.
At the start of development, Brutal John was a joke project that parodied modern old-school-style games. However, you, dear players, saw potential in the project and wanted it to become a true, serious FPS game.
Your support and attention have been our only motivation to keep working, as we have been developing this project without any funding.
Over the past three years, we have carefully read every one of your reviews and feedback, and over the last year, we also actively conducted playtests to make the project even better. What awaits you in the upcoming release will definitely make you happy.
Among other things, the "2" in the title also symbolizes the new second main character in the game — Brutal Dog — who you fell in love with from the very first footage. You'll be able to play as him in many of the game's levels.
Development News:
Let us remind you that during the second half of last year, we focused on enriching the game with interesting moments and cutting down on boring parts, such as long corridors or excessive searches for levers and keycards. As a result, almost half of the levels were completely rebuilt from scratch.
The game is now packed with much more engaging content, and we are confident that your desire to play it through to the end will be stronger than ever.
At the time of writing this news update, we are actively working on adding Easter Eggs, positive references to legendary games from the '90s and 2000s, revising dialogues and preparing them for voiceovers, and more.
Development Roadmap:
The next stage is participating in the Steam Next Fest: June Edition, along with a Demo Update featuring a brand-new level.
After that, the Early Access release is scheduled for July 22.
The Full Release is currently planned for December 2025.

Question 1: Where is BRUTAL JOHN 1? Will there be a BRUTAL JOHN 1? Why was the game renamed to BRUTAL JOHN 2?
Answer: BRUTAL JOHN 1 is now BRUTAL JOHN 2. The detailed reasons were explained above.
Question 2: Why Early Access? Why not a Full Release?
Answer: Because we want to release a polished product and incorporate feedbacks from the community. You all know well the examples of boomer shooters that launched directly as a full release — it didn't end well.
Question 3: Why has the release been postponed again?! You said in March that the game would be released in two months!
Answer: This delay has nothing to do with the development of the game. Development is going smoothly, no problems. This time we postponed the release solely to participate in the Steam Next Fest: June Edition (since we can only do it once) and to choose a better release window to avoid clashing with other major game releases.

According to plan, Re-Announce Trailer with Release Date will drop on 29 April, PDT, 01:00 PM. (It may move to 30 April).
I want to assure you that this delay from mid-April to end-April have NOTHING to do with development of the game and trailer. Trailer is completely 100% done and finished, and already even voiceovered by Gianni Matragrano himself. The development of the game itself also have no problems. This delay is happening because we want to avoid possible news collisions with other big titles (like Oblivion).
And additionally, at re-announce date, new great screenshots will drop, demo version update will drop, etc.
Please don't be surprised, game name will have another additional word when it gets re-announced :)
