We're officially moving away from the Unity Engine!

Usually it was planned to update this game in Late March, 2023.
But plans have changed for us.

While several new projects, dutys and game-jam events required even more time,
I've had some time to think about this project.

Basically, you can forget about all the screenshots you've seen here on steam!
The studio got a re-definition, the game-flow got a re-definition but the cute, funny, derpy, 3d-characters stay as they are.

The plan is the following:
1 - Record a all new voiceover (over 170 files) in english
2 - Record a all new voiceover (over 170 files) in german
3 - Updating to the new game-flow / mechanics.
4 - Integrating the voiceovers with matching situations
5 - Create and add game music and sound effects
6 - Adding game settings + localization in 10 languages
7 - Updating the Shop Page + adding basic Steam Connection
=> will take about 6 to 10 weeks
(Version 0.9.0)

8 - Adding Twitch Chat Connection for multiplayer games on Twitch
9 - Add 400 new questions
=> will take another 2 to 6 weeks
(Version 1.0.0 = Full Release / End of Early Access)

11 - Add more game-modes / variations, customization and community modding features
12 - Add 400 new questions
=> will take another 4 to 8 weeks
(Version 1.1.0)

13 - Add game & show statistics
14 - (TBD) Re-Add (Steam-)Achievements
15 - Add 400 more questions
=> will take another 6 to 12 weeks
(Version 1.2.0)

And then this project will be fully released at last!

As you can see above, all of these points are grouped with estimated timespans.
This means that we'll put the rework out in waves of patches/updates for you!
We will start with the first update in 6 to 10 weeks!

NOTE: All of these timespans are estimations for the development plan!
It can happen that we're much faster! The timer are chosen as pesimistic as possible.
But of course the worst-case can happen too.

In addition to that: The schedule is only a estimation!
It can happen that i'm much faster than estimated in the development cycle. Or vise versa: If too many problems appear, it will happen that we have to push back a feature.

As you can see above, all of these points are grouped with estimated timespans.

1) Let's start with the game development information:

Unfortunately, since the start of my thesis got in the way, the scope of the update is a bit smaller than I would have liked, however, we have progress:

- Menu navigation / UI with keyboard and gamepad.
A prototype UI has been developed for the game.
This has full keyboard and controller (gamepad) support.
The final design of this still needs to be worked out.
Status: Work In Progress

- 3D characters and their animations
In the meantime, a total of 43 different characters have been created and modeled.
The number of animations to be created for them has risen to about 100.
Of these, 27 are finished.

- Voiceover integration:
In the meantime, most of the gameplay has been recorded in English only for now.
But a German dubbing will come for this as well.
For testing I have already integrated the first voiceovers.
However, there is still potential.
Status: Work In Progress

- Studio Animations
For color changes of the studio and light animations a new animation system is being designed. The implementation of this will follow in the period until the next DevLog.
Status: Starts / Work In Progress.

Other TO-DOs:
- Twitch Chat Integration
- Character customization (also through chat commands)
- Modability from outside
- Question databases
- Localization of text & audio (German & English)
- In-game statistics
- Steam Statistics
- Steam Achievements

2) A little Christmas present:

Starting today, Whats Wrong With You? is part of the "Winter Sale" until January 5th!
Save a whole 50% to get the latest version from April 2022.
All changes described here are not included there yet,
but there is news here, too:
in the 1st quarter of 2023 the beta branch will go live.
Then you can test the latest version and give feedback.

Welcome to the 1st DevLog of the re-launch of our game show "Whats Wrong With You?"

In this post we want to share with you how things are currently going with the development of this fictional game show. So let's go through the topics piece by piece

DESIGN:
Since the announcement of our "Final Game Iteration" and the associated re-release, a total of 32 different 3D characters have been created. A total of over 50 are planned!
Completely squeaky-colorful animals and later pretty cosmetics for individualization will be added!

Here is a small preview of randomly selected characters in our studio:

The Local Players (up to 4 players) can always be presented in the middle before the start of a show in this case and can also choose their characters

GAMEPLAY / THE RULES OF THE GAME:.
The rules of the game are adjusted and simplified.
In short, there are still 32 players and also still 10 rounds of play.
In each game round there are questions, time limits and also winnings as well as losses in the form of points per question.
If you find all the answers, you win, otherwise you lose.
Whoever falls back to 0 points is out of the game and whoever has the most points at the end of the show wins the show.
However, after some rounds the contestants have to make a choice: Drop out or continue playing with a wild card as a reward?

BOTS.
The bots are becoming more diverse!
Not only because of the different characters, but also from the behavior and the way they interact with the game!
Accordingly, you also get different difficulty levels to give you a colorful mix of knowledge, courage and risk.

GRAPHICS:.
We are partially recycling graphics from the old version, however some new ones will be added as well.
Accordingly, new overlays will also decorate the gameplay

DISTORTION: .
While the current Steam version has no dubbing yet, but is already for the new edition of the game a complete dubbing recorded in German and this is also still translated into English. This still needs to be incorporated into the game.

CONTROL:.
Currently the game focuses on local multiplayer mode of 1-4 controllers on the same device or keyboard control in single player mode. Twitch mode has yet to be worked out in this regard.

TO-DO LIST:
The next important topics we have to work out are
- Integration of the voiceover
- Question databases & modability from outside
- Twitch chat connection
- Menu navigation / UI with keyboard & gamepad
- Character animations & studio animations
- Localization of text & audio (German & English)
- Ingame statistics & Steam connection

So you see we still have a lot to do.

The current plan is to release the new stable version at the latest on the 2 year anniversary of the game and to make a beta version available to you at the beginning of next year.

The only thing on the way is for me as a developer still the bachelor thesis in the middle of it.
So don't be angry if it should be delayed.

Game Update - Version 0.2.0

Après presque 3 mois, voici la première mise à jour majeure de notre jeu indépendant Whats Wrong With You ? Quoi de neuf ?

+ Nouveau logo du jeu / Titre ajusté
+ Nouveau design de jeu : les cartes ont été retravaillées.
+ Nouveaux niveaux : 2 nouveaux niveaux ont été ajoutés
+ Nouveaux Menus : L'ensemble des menus a été revu
+ Nouvelles commandes de la caméra : Les commandes complètes de la caméra ont été retravaillées ! Vous pouvez maintenant le contrôler avec W,A,S,D,Q,E, R et le bouton droit de la souris !
+ New Player Renderer : Les joueurs sont maintenant mieux rendus et les skins ne se chevauchent plus !
+ Ajout de l'écran des statistiques de jeu : Pendant qu'une partie est en cours, vous pouvez voir l'état d'avancement de la partie.
+ Ajout d'un panneau "Top-5 Highscore" : Lorsqu'une partie est en cours, vous pouvez maintenant toujours voir qui sont les 5 meilleurs joueurs !
+ Panneaux d'équipe retravaillés : Les équipes sont désormais plus petites et plus claires
+ L'écran des résultats du jeu a été repensé : les résultats des 64 joueurs sont désormais directement visibles sur un seul écran !
+ Ajout d'une caméra dans le jeu : Appuyez sur F2 dans le jeu et faites une capture d'écran ! Cela nous aide aussi pour les rapports de bogues ! Les captures d'écran seront stockées dans votre répertoire de jeu/WhatsWrongWithYou_Data.
Le nom est WWWY_Year_Month_Day_Time.
+ Des projecteurs ont été ajoutés : Désormais, il y a des projecteurs dans les arènes !
+ Animations des joueurs : les joueurs qui abandonnent le jeu sont désormais retirés de l'arène par une animation !
+ 2 Nouvelles options de jeu : Durée du jeu = Le nombre de questions (8, 16, 32, 48, 64) et Difficulté du robot = La force de l'IA (facile, moyenne, difficile, extrême).
+ Un grand nombre de corrections de bogues et de restructuration du code !
+ Probablement de nouveaux bugs ajoutés également.

NOTE : Dans le menu principal, sous "Crédits", vous trouverez une adresse électronique ([email protected]). Utilisez cette adresse et le sujet : "WWWY 0.2.0.5 Bugreport" pour nous signaler des bugs ! N'hésitez pas à utiliser la fonction de capture d'écran (F2) dans le jeu ! Et si vous avez des commentaires et des suggestions !

Quelle est la prochaine étape ?
Outre les corrections de bogues qui seront apportées à ce patch, nous préparerons un patch de contenu plus important (version 0.3.0) au cours des trois prochains mois.
Il s'agit notamment de la conception générale du jeu, de la manière de le présenter, de la musique, des sons, des effets sonores, de la personnalisation (comme les tenues des joueurs), de la mise en scène de ceux-ci.
En particulier, en attendant le prochain patch pour les futures mises à jour, nous voulons améliorer la qualité du code pour faciliter les futurs patchs.
De plus, nous voulons nous impliquer dans la personnalisation des utilisateurs et vous permettre de jouer plus que les questions données par notre générateur en utilisant un éditeur de questions en jeu et des paquets prédéfinis !
