Hey Mages,
This update wraps up the improvements that we planned post-1.0. Today's release focuses on improving performance, UI tweaks and fixes, and a lot of small improvements that make everyday play smoother.
We set out to improve onboarding, performance, and quality of life—plus add options like Creative and new settings. The Capstone Update completes that plan, and we’re proud of where the game has landed. We’ll continue to keep an eye on feedback from new and returning players. As always, thank you for being part of our community, for the thoughtful feedback, and for helping shape Mind Over Magic!
With magic and love,
Sparkypants

Our goal was to make a system that reacts to your play, rather than force you to do exact steps before you can make your own choices. For example, if you start summoning students before that goal appears, you'll never see it. We tried to find a balance between delivering easily understood guidance and maintaining a feeling that you can do whatever you want, no matter what the goals say.
The tutorial is only active for new games and can be disabled in settings at any time.
As always, we snuck in some QoL. There's now a School History button at the Book of Rituals where you can see every Mage that has left your school. We added plenty of other bug fixes and improvements as well, which you can see in the build notes below!
5/15/2025 Fix for Jade Dragon not growing in Creative Mode. Fix rare exception due to blocking object forced to change position. 5/12/2025 Fix for Withered Jade Eggplant sometimes failing to spawn correctly. Fix for issue where relics could become unusable when selecting them for

One of the most common topics for feedback we receive is, "I want to be able to just build whatever!" That's what Creative Mode is all about. You don't need to research or worry about the Fog or resources in order to construct the perfect school and furnish it. For some, this will be a practice mode to try out different ideas for their next Relentless run. For others, this is is the mode they've been wanting to play in all the time. We're looking forward to see what you do with it!
There are also some frequently requested QoL and balance changes in this update, like shorter quest and construct times and the ability to queue up new Initiate Summons.
We've also heard from many players that combat can get repetitive when you're not playing on Relentless mode. We've now enabled Advanced Battle Strategy by default on Standard difficulty and show that as a top-level checkbox when creating a new game. This is not about making the game harder, but about letting the full depth of the combat systems show through in the standard game. Like other difficulty settings, you can disable it at any time to simplify things!
We have two more updates planned. The next one will add more guidance to the beginning of the game to help new players get started and explore ways to add more replayability to the game. After that, we'll be focused on QoL, especially for commonly requested UI and planning improvements.
We hope you enjoy the update. Thanks for playing Mind Over Magic!

This is the first of multiple updates you can expect over the next few months. By popular demand, you can now play on a totally flat world or challenge yourself with more hills to deal with. There are numerous bug fixes, QoL improvements, and perf improvements in this update as well. Thanks for playing, and keep the feedback coming!
The next update will have improvements for new players and lots more QoL. More info as we get closer!

Now that we’ve hit 1.0, updates will slow down from the aggressive pace of Early Access. You can expect lots of work on Quality of Life features, performance improvements, and bug fixes. We’ve dropped several batches of fixes already and plan on multiple larger QoL releases over the next six months.
Some things we anticipate hitting soon include:
We’ll have more details on the next update as soon as we have something ready for you.

Running a magical school seems tough. Even our regular, mundane education establishments are foundries of chaos; imagine throwing the arcane into the mix. Bringing together the management and strategy game framework of colony sims like Rimworld, the exploratory, party-driven, turn-based RPG action of Darkest Dungeon, and Skyrim's best sequence, the College of Winterhold, this is Mind over Magic. Boasting an impressive 89% Steam rating after a year in early access, it's now finally launched in full, and you can grab it at a discount to celebrate if you're fast.

Since Early Access began we have worked to add a bunch of new content and features. Your great feedback helped us improve and refine the game in ways we never imagined.
We've added to and deepened just about every aspect of the game. From student progression to Underschool exploration and better combat. Balance refinements, deeper gameplay, tons of quality-of-life improvements, and frankly just about more of everything.
For more information on the roadmap and everything we did during early access, you can start with our Early Access Roadmap or check out our updates on Steam.
Thanks once again to all of the enthusiastic players who helped shape Mind Over Magic.
Our update today brings the ending encounter in the Underschool. Are your students ready to break the curse?

Next up, we’ll spend a little bit of time addressing feedback from this update and release hotfixes for any of the issues that we find. We’re also working on an additional QoL update featuring many of the great suggestions from our player community!
We’ll release more information about our upcoming plans as soon as it’s ready!

It’s been an amazing year working on Mind Over Magic with you all. So many people sent us thoughtful feedback and detailed bug reports, and we loved seeing Discord, Steam, and Reddit debate the nuances of the game. All of that was critical to understanding how players felt about the game and helped shape where it is going, leading us to now… the end of the Early Access roadmap!
Our updates early this year were about improving or extending parts of the game that were holding back the experience. It was such a great feeling to see more and more players engage as we launched each update.
While we have ongoing improvements to make throughout the game, the Ultimates Update was the start of expanding on the game's foundations. Enter the Nexus brings new places to explore and sets the stage for one more major update on the current roadmap. We did deviate a little from the prior roadmap on Nexus, however.
You may have noticed that Fog Aegis Lines don’t exist in the update and disappeared in this roadmap revision. This was a feature intended to be part of a set of features that depended on the Nexus gameplay going a certain direction. As we started implementing, we determined that wasn’t working gameplay-wise, so we took things in a different direction.
We’ve added some more specifics about what will be in Endgame to the roadmap. These are less about changes in the intent and more that we have better information to explain things now that we’re closer. We did, however, bump this update from January to February. We set an aggressive roadmap for Early Access and it's been an extra challenge for the team to stay on track while also delivering all the extras we got excited about. With each update, our deadlines have gotten a bit tighter, so we are giving ourselves a moment to breathe and time to polish things up for Endgame.
We hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday season… and that you get some time to play some Mind Over Magic!

We’ve received feedback that you’d like to continue receiving full change notes with the Steam updates, so those are below! We also wanted to say a little about our intent with some of these changes.
Our goal is to make MoM the best game it can be and to use Early Access to its fullest. That means change, and sometimes aggressive change. With the Ultimates update, we are aiming to deliver interesting combat systems with a variety of strategic options and some subtlety that takes time to master. That has meant shaking up the combat meta. Based on feedback so far, we’re much closer to having every Magic Skill be powerful in the right moment, but we will keep monitoring all the posts on Steam, Discord, and Reddit and make adjustments as necessary.
The Difficulty changes we’ve made streamline the way you start a new game. Instead of making multiple choices about difficulty, you now just choose between three levels. Based on feedback, we realized that players were sometimes choosing a middle level that was harder or easier than they thought they would get, so we simplified the process while keeping the ability to completely customize the experience.
Standard difficulty should now represent what we expect from MOM. It has interesting choices with consequences, both positive and negative. It may be harder than some players expect based on their past experience with the game. Relaxed difficulty is intended to be the mode where you can always recover from problems and you can play at your own pace. We’ve gotten a lot of useful feedback on difficulty already and are making some adjustments, especially for Relaxed and Standard modes.
If the game is too hard, keep in mind that you can change your difficulty level at any time during the game and even customize exactly which aspects are harder and easier from the settings menu.
Looking forward, this is likely the last time we’ll really shake up core game play so deeply. On our path to a 1.0 release, we’ll be adding to and enriching the Underschool, extending the lore of the game, adding new quests, and endgame goals. As always, we’ll continually mix in QoL and other improvements. Thanks for all the play, feedback, and help as we strive to make MOM into the game we’d all like to play.
