Hey, everyone!
You may be perplexed as to how you can navigate levels without the ability to jump on Magtek, that's absolutely fine! Magbots are very, very heavy -- meaning they cannot jump! Luckily, Super Magbot is armed with a magnetic weapon ray, which comes in handy because Magteck is permeated with a variety of up to eight magnets throughout the game!
As with most platformers, using a gamepad will provide you the best possible experience - but using your keyboard and mouse is fine, too!
The image below illustrates how you will use the bumpers on your controller to work with the magnets throughout Magtek, as you guide Magbot through the levels and challenges you'll face. (A - D. Left/Right Click -- mouse & keyboard)
Press the bumpers to use Magnbot's magnetic weapon ray
Levels are filled with Red (Positive) and Blue (Negative) magnets - and Magbot has to shoot Red or Blue magnetic rays against them to jump. Shooting a ray with the same colour as the magnet creates a Repulsion movement. Shooting a ray with the opposite colour as the magnet creates an Attraction movement. These magnets allow Magbot to jump and move fast through the levels.
Magnets can be identified by their shape and colour. Most magnets deactivate when they are hit by Magbot’s magnetic ray and after some time, they reactivate themselves to be used again. This is useful to prevent Magbot from spamming any magnet (avoid double jumps...).
Simple Magnet
The simple magnet acts as a blocking surface and depending on the colour:
Red simple magnet - Generates attraction when hit by a blue magnetic ray. Generates repulsion when hit by a red magnetic ray.
Blue simple magnet - Generates repulsion when hit by a blue magnetic ray. Generates attraction when hit by a red magnetic ray.
Use the power of magnetic attraction to pull yourself towards platforms and across perilous pitfalls
Use the power of magnetic repulsion to boost you through the air
Fragile Magnet
Fragile magnets destroy themselves upon impact
Like the Simple magnet; but when hit, instead of deactivating/reactivating, the fragile magnet destroys itself. This can be used to let Magbot go through them.
Magbot can use the fragile magnets as a boost mechanism
This is just a small chunk of the magnets you'll use to navigate Super Magbot's challenging plethora of levels!
We'll share more on the rest of Magtek's magnets in good time! Hopefully this little guide helps you gauge an improved understanding of how navigation works on Magtek!
