Due to some players experiencing very poor performance and even crashing I have removed the vegetation control system that was managing trees, grass, resources, and other flora. It really wasn't designed for a procedural open world like we have and was sending way too many instructions to video cards. In it's place I have reverted to a much more common system that doesn't look as good (especially grass) but runs fine even in big procedural environments.
This also fixes the lack of difference between the quality modes available on launch. Regardless of quality the vegetation system was bogging everything down. Now Fast runs much faster than Good, and Good much faster than Fantastic. That's around 170fps, 80fps, and 35fps for me on my Radeon GTX 450 which is by no means a high class graphics card nowadays.
As usual I don't want to force a new save game on anyone, but as the vegetation has been completely reworked any areas you may have "cleared" of resources may have resource back in them as the resources of the entire world will be regenerated as if a new game has been started. So you may have a tree in your house, and it might be awesome, or you can cut it down.
The grass is ugly, I hate it, it's one of my pet peeves, it will be improved. Tree stumps, flowers, and some other things are temporarily missing as well, but everything will make it back in much more performant. Resource LODs (draw distances) are quite low at the moment as well, I will be readjusting them.
I have also uploaded a 64 bit version of the game. My apologies that I'm not 100% sure how Steam handles that, but I think you will need to uninstall and reinstall for the x64 version to reach you. Steam should be able to recognize that your system is x32 or x64 and both versions are marked to be 'only' applicable for their appropriate systems, even though technically x64 can run x32. If you have a 1GB update, then Steam has automatically updated to the x64 bit version for you! I was unable to double-check as the developer it provides me a separate package.
I value gameplay and stability over graphics and flare. I'm sorry for the ups and downs over the past few days!
v 0.1.02i - 2018.02.03
- Fixed vSync option
- Temporarily replaced vegetation/resource control systems with a much more performant style
- Added 64 bit version
You may need to restart Steam for the download to begin and/or reinstall to upgrade to 64 bit. If you don't know whether you are on a 64 bit system you can right click on "My Computer" (Windows 7) or "This PC" (Windows 10) in the Explorer and click "Properties"
Happy Gaming!
