I have updated the game to version 2.1
It resolves a couple small issues and is a first stab at tackling the bigger database issue that still lingers.
What's Been Fixed
- Amount menu now closes when you leave a cache before completing the exchange
- Star Icons were appearing larger than they should in the star chart
- I am hoping that this was related to the "white screen" problem, and I have not encountered it since the update ... let me know if your star chart turns white after clicking "stars"
- For the record, that problem would go away if you reloaded a game or landed on a planet, but I am hoping it's gone for good
- I was able to isolate the missing star issue, any time I scanned more than six stars in a given sector, it would somehow delete the fifth and sixth (and occasionally seventh) stars from the sector file
- This prevented the stars from showing in the star chart
- It was also (probably) responsible for the "star missing from database" problem
- I have not quite fixed this issue, but I have limited the number of stars per sector to six as a stop-gap measure
- If you are a person who likes to try and explore all the stars in a sector, then you will probably want to start a new game with the new version
- If you just want to do the main quest, and explore a few extra stars here or there, then you should be safe playing an existing game
- I will continue to hunt down the cause of this issue, while I try to resolve some of the remaining bugs
Game Crashes
I have noticed that the game still crashes on occasion. This seems to happen a lot more if I do not visit the mothership. Along with the problem with dropping a beacon, this is the next big issue I will be looking at.
Crashes are never fun, but the game seems to recover from them fine when you reload. Every time you land on a planet or return from a planet, the game is saved. Since the crashes seem to happen after returning to the spaceship, data is usually preserved, and no progress gets lost.
Beta Version
For this update, I have forgone the step of uploading a beta version. I felt that the issue of too many stars in a sector needed to be addressed quickly, especially for new players. Also, since I did not make any major changes to the script, just limited the number of stars that can form in a sector, it should be no less stable than version 2.0.
