Steam Workshop is here!

Full Steam Workshop support is now in the game. Subscribe to addons from the Steam Workshop page or Overlay, and a new in-game menu handles enabling, downloading, and uploading, whether you're playing on someone else's server or hosting your own. Dedicated servers can now mount subscribed Workshop content automatically, so players connecting to a modded server get everything they need without extra steps.

Access the Workshop here!

See the Workshop guide for more info on creating an addon.

We also added a "Waiting for Players" state for when a server doesn't have enough people to start a round, gave detectives their own private voice channel, fixed a long list of spectator and spawning issues, and updated several mapping entities, including a new env_state entity and door/platform sound overrides.

Detailed changelog below.

Steam Workshop Support

• Added comprehensive Steam Workshop support, including a new in-game menu for managing, uploading, and auto-downloading subscribed items. This works for both clients and dedicated servers. Browsing and subscribing to new items still happens through the Steam Workshop page or Overlay, same as any other Workshop-enabled game.
• Added a StartupVids.txt file so addons can add their own startup videos.

Gameplay & Mechanics

Waiting for Players

• Added a new "Waiting for Players" state that kicks in when the server is below the minimum player count. While waiting:
  • Players automatically spawn and respawn after death
  • All damage is enabled
  • Karma is disabled
  • Weapons and ammo respawn
  • Corpses are removed automatically after 30 seconds

• The game moves straight into "Preparing" as soon as enough players join.

• Grenades that break glass now travel through the glass instead of bouncing back

• When spawning as a chicken, spawns are now offset if the spawnpoint is blocked

Detective Voice

• Detectives can now use their own private voice channel to talk to other detectives, using the same push-to-talk key traitors already use for their voice chat. Like traitor voice, it doesn't count against normal proximity voice and won't drain your voice battery while active.
• Fixed several related voice bugs: incorrect occlusion/muffling behind walls, and dropped peer-to-peer voice connections not reconnecting properly.

Spectators

• Dead traitors can now vote to reveal every traitor's identity to dead/spectating players, once a majority of that round's traitors (alive + dead) have voted for it. They are never revealed to living players.
• Added an admin command (ttt_reveal_traitors) to do the same.
• Fixed spectator mode breaking when the player being watched moves too far away.
• Fixed players getting stuck in spectate if they died between rounds.
• Players can no longer switch spectator targets while controlling a chicken.
• When the game auto-switches your spectate target (e.g. the player you were watching became a spectator too), it now picks the nearest player instead of a random one.

Entities & Physics

• Doors no longer reverse direction when blocked by a chicken. The chicken gets pushed out of the way instead, or killed if it can't be moved.
• Fixed carried corpses not updating their bounding box while held, which could cause them to get stuck in place after being dropped in an open area.

General

• Round-end achievements are now only checked for players who actually took part in the round.
• Fixed custom footstep sounds not resetting on map change.
• Ricochet Discs are no longer excluded from spawning by default in items.cfg.

Visuals & UI

• Fixed server admins incorrectly showing up with the "Dev" color on the scoreboard.
• Cleaned up stat number formatting so large numbers no longer render broken characters in some languages.
• Added new player animations for Ricochet Discs (thanks b1rd!)
• In first person spectator mode, the player's name and Traitor icon are no longer shown above the spectated player's head.
• Added animation for grenade roll (Secondary attack) (thanks b1rd!)

Map Maker & Entity Updates

See the mapping guide and the Entity File guide for more info

• Entity Files v2: the in-game entity menu's save format now uses VDF and can create any point or brush entity, not just a fixed list.
• ambient_music: now supports playing multiple simultaneous tracks. Entities with different filenames mix together instead of interrupting each other. Entities sharing the same filename still act as one track, and a Stop/Fade out entity can target one specific file, or leave filename blank to affect everything currently playing.
• doors: added a new spawnflag that stops a door from reversing when blocked. Instead, it keeps pushing toward its destination, damaging whatever is in the way if the door has damage set. Also replaced the target/netname keys with distinct Open/Close/Fully Open/Fully Closed outputs for more precise output control.
• env_spark: added a new "volume" field (10 = loudest) to control how loud its crackle sound is.
• func_breakable: added a spawnflag to make a breakable only destructible by C4 or suicide bomb explosions.
• func_healthcharger: added settings for recharge time and charge amount, so mappers can control how much health a wall charger dispenses before depleting, and how long it takes to recharge afterward.
• ladders: added support for custom ladder climbing sounds, either globally, using the same override system as footsteps, or per-ladder.
• platforms: added FGD support for a custom move sound override (custom_movesnd), the same one already available on doors. Also applies to func_trackchange and func_trackautochange.
• player_weaponstrip: can now filter which weapons to strip (all weapons, primaries, secondaries, traitor/detective equipment, grenades, non-spawn weapons, or a specific weapon class) instead of always stripping everything, and can optionally send the stripped weapons to a teleport target as a pickup instead of destroying them.
• ttt_playermodel: fixed a bug where a forced player model would leak to other players instead of staying local to the intended player. Also clarified that "Reset to random," when targeting the Activator, resets that player to the default model for the current round rather than a fully random one.
• env_state: new entity, a simpler alternative to multisource for gating another entity's Master field. Unlike multisource, it responds correctly to direct USE_ON/USE_OFF inputs, and supports its own optional Master field and on/off transition delays.
• Soundscapes:
  • Fixed trigger_soundscape not working correctly when built from multiple brushes.
  • Negative radius now means infinite range.
  • Spectators in freelook no longer hear soundscapes (only while following a player).
  • Switching between soundscapes that are proxies of each other no longer resets/stops the sound.
  • Soundscapes can now be assigned a master to control them.

• Ammo limits: Weapon and Ammo spawners can now spawn 3 ammo items max, and total ammo in one area is moderately limited.

Maps

• Added ttt_pond
• Added a spawn file for 333am.
• Updated the spawn file for oilrig.
• Fixed a poorly placed env_sound on Warehouse.
• Added _ttt_warehouse.rmf, letting non-J.A.C.K. mappers open and edit the Warehouse source map.

Technical & Bug Fixes

• Fixed some log messages not reaching the console unless logging was enabled.
• Entity files are now precached so clients download them on connect.
• Spawning:
  • Fixed players sometimes respawning in the same spot every round on a full server.
  • Fixed players occasionally dying on respawn when a spawn point wasn't clear.
  • Fixed players overlapping at spawn on maps with fewer spawn points than players.
  • Spawn points can now be placed much closer together (16 units instead of 64).

• Fixed a rare crash on quit.

• Fixed a soundscape being unable to play the same sound twice at once.

• Fixed ttt_point_message not resetting properly between rounds.

• Fixed volume getting stuck at a lowered/ducked level.

• Fixed map-placed grenades and tripmines getting replaced by other items.

• Dropped corpses/weapons now stop moving immediately if they clip into a wall.

• Dying players are now pushed away from walls so they don't end up stuck inside one.

• Fixed the crowbar's secondary attack resetting its primary attack delay.

• Fixed ladders preserving fall velocity if climbed all the way down.

• Weapons and ammo that would have fallen out of the map after spawning are now repositioned.

• Fixed Idle popup sometimes showing "0 seconds"

• Fixed potential crash when a player's last words are too long

Documentation

• Reorganized, reformatted, and updated the Mapping Guide.
• Created a new Workshop Guide.

Other

• The thirdperson command now works when cheats are enabled.
