Hello everyone! Here is a sneak peek of the next big update I am working on for DA_RL. Called A More Interesting Dungeon, this update aims to make the dungeon a little bit more interesting to explore.
New Dungeon Generation
The dungeons of DA_RL now have a new type of floor. The caves. Generated using a type of cellular automata, the caves are full of nooks and crannies from which enemies can jump out. The challenging terrain and layout of the caves will test even the best player's skills to navigate the cave.
Bigger rooms also contain pillars now.
Floor Hazards
The dungeon of DA_RL is damp and dark, and sometimes there’s a leak. These leaks cause puddles of water, ranging from a shallow puddle to a deep hole. Without the right equipment, spells, or potions, it takes you two turns to walk through the deep water. Lower in the dungeon, you might find other puddles, most of which you don’t want to step in.
New Items
The dungeons of DA_RL have received a new shipment of new and interesting items. New spells, weapons, food, armors, enchantments, curses, and rings now litter the floors of the dungeon. My favorite is the new spell books, too long have players just automatically used spell books, now you gotta really think before you use them, or use an identify scroll on them, some of these books will hurt you.
New Room Types
I’ve added a few new room types to the game. Like the vaults, these rooms have a chance to generate in the dungeon. One is the treasure vault, a room filled with gold and other riches. Another is the crypt, a room where the dead watch you.
Bug fixes and QOL
As with every big update, there will be a lot of bug fixes and QOL stuff. There is also a balance pass to make the game feel better.
