Patch 3.2.0 Now Available

A new patch is now available for Primal Carnage: Extinction on Steam!

After downloading the latest version, please allow time for hosters to update their servers.

This process is always longer than simply updating the game itself, so it may take a few hours for most of them to pop back online.

UPDATE HIGHLIGHTS

This patch makes a number of balance changes based on your community feedback.

After the last patch some adjustments have been rolled back with different tweaks taking their place, such as sniper rifle fire rate being reverted but with changes to accuracy this time. Spit has also been reverted to its original maximum speed.

One of our primary focuses lately has been updating bleed, specifically relating to the compound bow.

Bleed is actually not super effective and rarely causes kills, but can be annoying. The exception is with Pterosaurs, who were disproportionately affected by arrows with no way to get rid of bleed in the air.

That's all changed with Bowverhaul 3.0 - bleed can now be removed while flying by diving or entering freefall, similar to extinguishing fire. Imagine that the sudden blast of air is closing up your wounds!

Arrows have been rebalanced to affect raptors and spitters more, taking 2 hits to trigger bleeding instead of 3, since the raw damage output of sniper rifles was making the bow look like a less desirable choice. However, bleed duration is now shorter and deals less tick damage than it did previously. When playing small dinosaurs, remember that running makes bleed more intense while crouching ends it faster.

Various other adjustments and bug fixes have been made to the bow and other gameplay mechanics as well, see the full change list further down for more info...

FUTURE CARNAGE

Brand new items will be coming later this Spring, after the launch of Primal Carnage: Evolution on PlayStation. We'll be releasing an update to the SDK for community creators to have the latest content not long after Evolution's release, which will include assets for upcoming Sandbox classes!

The hope is for Sandbox and various other new features from Evolution to appear on PC by this summer, with a beta period in Open Testing to verify everything is working well before going live. Strange things can happen when porting between platforms and we'd like version 3.5 to be as stable as possible.

We're also still working to get a new set of official dedicated servers up and running with Shockbyte, a brand new provider. You can rent servers from them yourself as well, just note we're still collaborating with their engineers to add more settings to customize when creating your matches.

The new official server provider will offer more locations around the world, hopefully giving options for lower ping servers to more players. The officials should all be going live within the next week or two, with an official Australian TDM server already up and running down under.

FULL CHANGELOG

Version 3.2.0

Bleed Changes:

  • reduced bleed tick damage from 10 to 8 for small dinos, reduced duration of bleed

  • small dinos (raptors / spitters) now start bleeding after 2 arrow hits

  • flyers start bleeding after 3 arrow hits

  • flyers can now stop bleed by diving or entering freefall

(this also includes Tupa's divebomb attack)

Dino Changes:

  • increased tupa peck range and air ram detection radius

  • added gamepad rumble to tupa air ram impacts

  • reverted max spit projectile speed

  • slight increase to spit lifetime

Human Changes:

  • increased human heavy melee dash distance

  • fixed human melee checks sometimes failing if you spammed it

  • increased poison dart rifle reserve ammo from 30 to 50

  • reduced impact "explosion" radius of tracking arrows from 150 to 25

  • fixed missing footsteps when using the FlameSlammer and Carbine rifle

  • adjusted scientist crouched view height to not be lower than other humans

  • reverted sniper rifle scoped fire rate from 1.26 to 0.9

  • adjusted sniper rifle un-scoped fire rate from 1.28 to 1.2

  • increased base sniper rifle spread from 2 to 2.1

  • adjusted sniper rifle crouched aiming scalar from 0.75 to 0.62

  • sniper rifle no longer does the "advantage check" that other weapons do, meaning its hit detection is a little less accurate when not scoped in

Bowverhaul 3.0:

  • fixed Classic controls being slower to charge arrows compared to the Combined control scheme (both control types now have the exact same timings - 0.1x faster than previously)

  • added input buffering for drawing the bow which works for both control types

  • minimum draw time is now based on the max charge time of the arrow, so explosive arrows can't be fired super fast anymore

  • fixed charge-up exploit triggered when swapping arrow types while entering a menu

  • fixed bug where melee or throwing while drawing would break the bow UI, or you could continue to charge while doing so

  • fixed bug where arrow would appear out of thin if you swapped weapon while switching arrows

  • fixed a bug where pressing fire at the exact moment alt fire is released would shoot an arrow that is invisible to its owner

  • fixed bug where arrows would sometimes appear on top of other guns when picking up ammo

  • made the bow third person animations look a bit better

  • fixed bug in classic bow control mode where if you pressed alt fire really fast after firing you would bug the charge-up UI and draw without an arrow

Other:

  • possible fix for accidentially sending the default hint message when typing in chat
