Hey everyone, I am in the final polishing stages of wrapping up Fargone's next major update, which will be launching next Wednesday (01/07/2026). This update comes with a lot of big changes and additions, however in today's post I will only be sharing a little about one highly requested feature: vehicles.
So let's break down some of the things you can expect with vehicles in Patch 0.5.1.0 Rustbound.
What vehicles are coming with the Rustbound update
Fargone is taking a slightly different approach with vehicles. As many of you know, I have always tried to define Fargone's space in the market as something between a full-blown survival game and something a bit more curated, like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. With that being said, having tons of scattered vehicles of all types around felt out of place, and also did not align with the lore of the radiation from Hope's Plant frying most vehicles in The Barrens. So instead, you will be able to find, repair, customise and maintain quad bikes as a means to travel around.
Focusing on one primary vehicle has also allowed me to really focus on making the driving experience and physics feel great. Quad bikes in Fargone can navigate most terrains with ease, depending on the engine fitted.
How you find and repair a quad bike
Quad bikes will spawn randomly around the map in locations that make sense, and can appear in a variety of different conditions. You will need to scavenge for parts like engines, wheels and spark plugs, as well as tools like a lug nut wrench and a socket wrench, to repair one and get it driving.
Vehicle parts have been added to loot tables throughout the world, and can also be purchased at the new Mechanic shop at Day's End Bar. However, vehicle parts are very rare and costly!
How can you upgrade quad bikes
Quad bikes at the launch of Rustbound can be fitted with a variety of parts: engines ranging from slow but highly fuel-efficient options to extremely fast race engines that drink a lot of fuel; different types of spark plug that wear the engine at different rates depending on their quality; and light, medium or heavy armour to protect it, or turn it into a zombie battering ram! You can also mount a storage box to the rear rack to allow for the transport of goods.
The plan is to keep expanding this system to allow you all to create the exact kind of quad bike that fits your play style.
How do you maintain a quad bike
Given the world and lore of Fargone, vehicle parts are all quite battered and worn, not to mention rare. Your bike will need a degree of maintenance depending on how it's used. It will need to be kept topped up with fuel, as expected. You might need to clean it if you spend long periods driving off-road. Wheels can become loose the further they get damaged, and fully break off in the worst cases. Engines will wear over time, even more so if fitted with poor-quality spark plugs. Heavy amounts of damage from a collision can also cause catastrophic failures, such as the entire engine block falling out.
Vehicles in Fargone are a very useful tool and will change the way you play the game, so they must be kept in good condition to ensure they keep serving you well!
As mentioned above, vehicles are only one part of the Rustbound update; there is plenty more coming, and the full announcement and patch notes will drop with the update next Wednesday. I can't wait to get this update into everyone's hands and share more on what is in store for Fargone in 2026.
