THE SHIP HAS FINALLY LANDED!! (v0.3.0) is here!

So this went well... Well, it certainly went. I was originally going to just work on adding missing things from the early access description. But once I got in there I realized I wanted to redo basically all of the code to help make adding content in the future a lot easier. And after a very long time..I think I was able to in the end.

So lets take a little stroll and check out all the changes!

Content

I spent more time creating new items and map scenes, which was the fun part for this update. More creatures and items to eat of course!

Items

They work much differently than they did in 2.0. No longer can you just pick them up but I decided to instead go with a floating item approach.

Tiling

Now you can add flooring to the ground and remove it as well.

Fishing

I redid this as well, now you can cut the line if the fish is too hard to pull in.

Input

One of my goals was to make using the controller possible for the entire game, and I think I did this aside from entering text which will still have to be added with the keyboard unfortunately...

Sounds

More were added for actions and menu movements.

Mining

Now when things are mined or cut there are drop tables for them so you aren't just getting the same block each time. Mining and other actions are a lot faster now as well. Digging can now be done with an empty hand but it will hurt the player just like in the original game.

Map Generation

Maps are larger and have more map scenes and the start of sub biomes!

Entity AI

This still needs a lot of work but one of my goals was to redo this and implement a Behavioral Tree for NPCs, which I was able to do. Hopefully things are a little more interesting. But it is still an area of improvement for the next update.

Farming

Reworked farming system as well.

Options

Now you can select if the parts might be broken when landing and will require you find the resources to repair them.

Cutscenes

This is another one I redid, its reliable and no longer dependent on counts which made it unpredictable.

HUD

I completely redid this and hopefully its a little more appealing than the last version!

Temperature

Temperature effects were removed - I want to redo it and in its current state its not even worth having.

Steam Deck Compatibility

One of my goals was to get SYL! to be fully compatible with the Steam Deck. I will be submitting it soon and I hope it goes well but one of my major concerns is that I'm using Godot 4.2 and I couldn't figure out a way to actually activate the virtual keyboard on the Steam Deck. If anyone knows a way please let me know!!!

There were a lot more minor tweaks and bug fixes that came in this as well. But at any rate this is v0.3.0!!!

-See Ya Later!
