Almost 30000(!) more Kanji added
Thanks to Jitenon's data store, Kanji RPG is able to add information of 29200 Kanji.
Entries which did not overlap with the existing KANJIDIC2 will not have an English definition (but these are obscure characters anyway, for advanced learners/hobbyists).
I (Looh) will be incrementally adding definitions to JIS Kanji over time.
Since some levels have insane numbers of Kanji in them, a loading screen has been implemented.
The Kanji Stamp Book (aka the dictionary) has been highly optimized and should take less time to load and search.
Level Adjustments
The Kanji from Black Hole and Milky Way have been moved into Milky Way (漢検準1級 merged in 1 level instead of 2 levels), and the content of Void moved into Black Hole (relocated 漢検1級).
Void now contains Kanji belonging to JIS Plane 3/4.
A new level called "Null" has been added containing the other 20000 or so Kanji not belonging to JIS (JP definitions only). Note that loading this level will take a long time, upwards of 15 seconds, but once it's loaded it runs smoothly.
Japanese Definitions added
As a consequence of the above, you can now see Japanese definitions when you encounter a Kanji for the first time. These are not enabled by default, but can be turned on in Settings (cogwheel icon).
Japanese Definition Multiple Choice
With Japanese Definitions turned on, you can also enable Japanese definition multiple choice questions.
These definitions are quite long, so they are truncated in multiple choice questions. To see the full definition in the choices, hover your mouse over the button and a small popup will show the whole thing.
Data Changes
Since the data now comes from Jitenon's data store, there may be some differences in the data itself, e.g. quantity of readings, slight differences in definitions, differences in radical display, etc. I am working to unify the appearance of this data as much as possible.
A Note About Japanese Dictionary Conventions
When you see Kanji that have no entry from KANJIDIC, and it renders instead from the Jitenon data store, you may see characters like △ and 【中】 next to pronunciations. These mean the following:
- 【小】 is a pronunciation taught during 1-6th grade in elementary school (教育漢字)
- 【中】 is a pronunciation taught during middle school.
- 【高】 is a pronunciation taught during high school.
- 【△】 is a definition not considered part of the Jouyou Kanji standard for a Kanji that is otherwise considered Jouyou.
During quizzes, they can be ignored safely. :)
Other Notes
Updated Electron to latest version. Reverted due to bugs in hotfix patch.
Some other areas have not been tested since this change, please join the Discord to report any bugs.
Using English fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice study modes in advanced levels (e.g. where a Kanji doesn't have an English definition) currently will not work as intended - you'll see Japanese definitions instead. So if you are wanting to study the obscure characters, it's recommended to turn English settings off. This will be updated ASAP.
