This Halloween marks 3 years of Escape Purgatory being live on Steam! It’s been an amazing journey, and we want to thank everyone who’s supported us along the way. With this milestone, we’re rolling out another major update packed with new content, improvements, and a few spooky surprises.
This time around, we’re introducing a brand new Realm (Farmstead), making more adjustments to Survival Mode, adding new achievements and cosmetics, and tightening up gameplay across the board to make the experience even more immersive.
So, here’s what’s new in this next chapter of Escape Purgatory:
🌾 Farmstead
A brand new Purgatory Realm has opened!
Welcome to the Farmstead — once a thriving farmland, now left to rot from the inside out. The creatures here have mutated, both in form and strength. Beneath all the decay lies the story of a lost girl, holding onto the memories of what this land once was.
Can you uncover her story and save her soul?
💀 Survival Mode
Last year’s Survival overhaul brought big changes, and this update builds on that foundation. We’ve focused on making the early rounds more balanced for new survivors while still giving experienced players the chance to push their limits and reach rounds once thought impossible.
Whether you’re learning the ropes or chasing high rounds, there’s something new waiting for you.
🪓 New Cosmetics
With the Survival changes come new rewards!
Reach Round 10 to unlock the Golden Axe
Reach Round 20 to unlock the Golden Shotgun
Play between 10/27 – 11/16 to unlock the limited-time Angel Wings!
🏆 Steam Achievements
We’ve added 7 new Survival achievements for players who truly want to test their endurance. These aren’t just for the Dark Forest anymore — they’ll apply to all current and future Survival Realms.
We’ve also made a few name and backend changes:
Vanish Vault → Monster Vault
Vanish Treasury → Monster Treasury
(Now tracks eliminations across all monsters, not just Shadow Girls.)
Vanish Safe → No More Giggles
Speed Racer → Trail Blazer
🩸 Immersive Details
We’ve added a lot of small touches to make the experience feel more alive (and a little more terrifying):
Screen Gashes that appear as you take damage
A heartbeat sound when your health gets low
More details and models in each realm to help make puzzles clearer
Updated HUD icons
New in-game Survival tips
And plenty of other small tweaks and polish
