Hey everyone!
Last week was largely focused on further bug fixes in the new systems leading up to our patch the next week. However, there is another update to visuals as a result of our work with the particle system we would like to show off today: Gun smoke and impacts.
Those of you who have played the game (or even watched the trailer), know that our guns so far were just firing a white line from the shooter to the target. Until the most recent update when I moved the start of the line to the barrel of the gun, the line was even drawn from the soldiers’ chest to the target.
All of this is now updated with smoke and a muzzle flash coming from the soldiers’ guns, and an impact effect at the place the gun has hit. The impact effect will also change between what has been hit (a blood effect for hitting units, and a puff of smoke for other materials). This update is particularly important with the new health system, as shooting someone doesn’t necessarily kill them anymore, and having the little impact effect as indication of whether the shot has hit is important.
The effects are not yet finalised, but we think the looks are a massive improvement from what we had before, so we will leave it in roughly this state for now.
Until next week!
