View From Below 1.7

The first anniversary of View From Below is quickly coming up this month! I learned so much from making (and launching) this strange, dark little game, that I’m really hopeful and excited about what the future holds.

If you haven’t played it yet, now would be the perfect time, because it’s currently on sale for 60% off.

Here's an updated version of the launch trailer:

Before announcing my next game in a few weeks, I wanted to first release one final update for View From Below. (Aside from any future bug fixes if necessary, of course.) It makes *lots* of small tweaks to round off some rough edges, and improve balancing.

Here’s the full patch notes:

Gameplay

  • Bell’s first chase sequence has been updated with an additional attack pattern
  • Altered the map design for Rose's third chase sequence with more alternative routes

Balancing

  • Adjusted some item sell prices
  • Lowered the damage done in most of the chase sequences
  • Lowered the Challenge+ bonus damage done in all of the chase sequences

Visuals

  • Improved the good ending cutscene art with a nicer rain effect
  • The Soul Gate now scrolls nicely in the tower top area

General Tweaks

  • Made some small adjustments and fixes to cutscenes, such as some new sound effects

Dialogue

  • Some dialogue was tweaked to improve flow

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a small Demon Summoner visual bug
  • Fixed being able to buy trinkets even when out of inventory space
  • Fixed Melody's armor and trinket not unequipping fully in some contexts

I want to give one final thank you to every one who played and supported View From Below- it really means so much to me. I had no idea if anyone would even play it- so the fact that hundreds have is a really cool feeling. (Not too bad for my first go at this :S)

I’m still kicking myself over some launch issues, but I’m really proud of where the game is today. All the feedback I received was so helpful, and I think helped make the game better and better with each of the 6 major updates.

I’ve grown a lot as a developer, and as a writer, these past few months, and I think my next game is really going to show that. I can’t wait to finally show it. You can keep up with me on twitter to see when it's first announced.

I hope you’ll follow me to what comes next.

Goodbye for now,
Jack
