Attention, soldiers!
Yesterday we published a new game update that fixes a longstanding bug that has been in BG ever since it came out on the Source engine 20 years ago. For all that time, players who knew their way around the source engine asset system could (and did) modify the game to achieve an unfair advantage. They could make brick walls translucent, make players visible through the deepest fog, make musket smoke disappear, or modify uniform textures to highlight different hitboxes on the bodies.
This new sv_pure update changes that. Game assets are now verified to match those present on servers. HUD and VGUI assets are excluded from this, as custom HUDs couldn't be considered cheating.
Servers are required to update for this new feature to work.
There have been reports from players saying that their games now crash on launch. These players have also reported that deleting the materials and user_custom folders from their game files fixes this issue.
Ex. path: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Battle Grounds III\\bg3\\materials
I am monitoring the situation and if we determine a rollback to be necessary, we will consider that option.
~Awesome, still trucking after 13 years on this game (my cat had surgery today)
