A Spike Storm Strikes the Clockworks!
A shimmering storm is rolling through the Clockworks, leaving mysterious energy spikes in its wake. At first, these storms appeared to be nothing more than a lovely light show, but the resulting spikes are having a dramatic effect on local monsters! Look for Anomalie in the Arcad
A shimmering storm is rolling through the Clockworks, leaving mysterious energy spikes in its wake. At first, these storms appeared to be nothing more than a lovely light show, but the resulting spikes are having a dramatic effect on local monsters!
Look for Anomalie in the Arcade before you brave the storm to help investigate these mysterious phenomena. Maybe such a concentrated energy source can be used to craft new loot? But act fast! The forecast indicates the current storm will dissipate at the end of the month.
Monster Spike Details:
A new weather event has arrived and is affecting specific areas of the Clockworks. This includes depositing mysterious energy spikes that change monster behavior.
Monsters will be inexplicably drawn to these new energy spikes.
Monsters who have collected spikes will be more challenging than their non-spiked brethren.
Defeating a spiked monster will cause that monster to drop its accumulated spikes.
Collect spikes with your party to acquire exciting rewards like fire crystals or the new and powerful Slicer line of guns.
Other Changes in this Release:
Faster weapon switching.
Mouse wheel improvements.
Fixed a bug that showed your own gear details when inspecting another knight.
Taking the early exit from Battle Arena or Treasure Vault levels will not spin for a prize box.
Stability improvement for the mac client when moving or resizing the window.
Non-mac users will find a new "Display Mode" that is like fullscreen but actually just a "borderless" window. It should be near the top of the list in the video modes dropdown.
Fixed a bug with stunned monsters having messed-up attacks.
Added a preference to disable camera shake.
Added a preference for connecting to Discord (BETA.)
/loadout chat command can be used to list or equip a loadout.
/saveloadout (/save) also works.

New Release: Spring is in full bloom and Spiral HQ has been busy with a bouquet of big changes: Forge:
We've made some changes to the forge system to make it more friendly to newer knights and lower the cost of leveling your gear!
All forging attempts, regardless of the crystal option you pick, will be successful! We believe this will be a more enjoyable experience for most players. When an item is ready to be leveled and you use the forge, your item is guaranteed to level up. You can always opt to add more crystals if you want to have a chance at some fun bonuses. So, if all you want is to level up your item, you'll now want to use the lowest crystal cost option. This option is selected by default.
To balance out the above change, the bonuses you can get for the different crystal cost levels have changed.
Minimum level of crystal use: You are now guaranteed to be successful! You will not have a chance at extra bonuses.
Medium level of crystal use: The chance of bonuses has been increased compared to what it was before this change.
Maximum level of crystal use: The chance of bonuses has been increased even more compared to what it was before this change.
System Upgrade:
We've released a second batch of very large back-end changes. Like the previous changes, these are part of our continuing effort to modernize the game. This represents quite a lot of work behind the scenes, but should help the game run better for players. Thank you all for your patience while we've been tinkering under the hood.

As part of our Anniversary celebrations, we'd like to give you a look at what we've been up to. Spiral HQ has been toiling away in the Clockworks to create a lot of exciting new changes!
Created a brand new PvP mode. Super Brawl is a new free-for-all combat mode for up to eight knights — no teams, no classes, just you and your own gear in fast-paced five-minute rounds.
We've released a level editor, The Coliseum Crucible. Players can now create PvP levels that can eventually be added to the game. The level editor is constantly being updated to increase its functionality.
We've updated the server and client Java to modernize and and allow it to run better with less lag. This is represents incredibly large amount of work that should improve your game-play.
We've added new servers for different regions - Australia and Brazil.
Added new accessory slots so you can personalize your look even more than before.
Added a lot of Quality of Live changes. Below are just some of these changes:
Increased the amount of memory the game tries to use.
Added an “Abandon Party” prompt setting so knights can turn off those popups.
Created new commands for moving around town quickly. These only work for knights who have already reached Haven. - /readyroom (/rr) will go to your ready room - /haven (/hh) will go to your last town scene - /townsquare (/ts) - /bazaar - /garrison - /arcade - /guildhall (/gh) - /auction (/ah) - /alchemy (/craft) - /punch (/uv) - /vise (/unbind) - /bechamel (/accessory)
Added a preference for UI scaling. The scale selection is saved per screen resolution so that if you regularly change between fullscreen and windowed, both scales are saved.
Added a preference for the chat text size.
Added a preference for controlling the size of the chat area.
Added new gate icons for deconstruction zones, and to differentiate different compound wilds levels.
Searching for an accessory in your inventory will find it on armors or helms.
The attack speed buff in Frenzied Firestorm has a unique icon now.
Buffed the damage of Catalyzer, Industrial Catalyzer, Volatile Catalyzer, and Neutralizer.
Fix Vanaduke: dousing an already-extinguished mask no longer deals damage to knights.

For those who prefer to make a gift for their friend, we have you covered. Spiral HQ is introducing the Coliseum Crucible! The Crucible is the home for our engineering gremlins who build and maintain the Clockworks. Inside the Crucible's ahllowed halls, knights can build and design their very own Lockdown levels. The Crucible is now seeking new recruits as they create new levels for Lockdown.
To participate, you need to opt in and agree to the Terms and Conditions. Go into advanced “Game” settings to accept membership.
From the “System menu” (wrench icon) in the lower left corner of the UI, launch the Crucible Editor
Create something fun! Find help in the Editor Tool Tips & Tricks forum
Test your level yourself. To upload/test your level, select “Coliseum” from the activities menu on the right side of your HUD. Now that you’re a member of crucible there should be a 4th tab, in there you can select “my levels” and upload and test your level.
Ask others to test your level by making it public. You can post a request for testing and feedback in the Lockdown Level Testing Forum.
Submit your level for review.
Help others with their levels by testing or helping them use the editor.
Spiral Knights has also updated with some fun quality of life improvements. This includes the ability to warp around Haven, performance improvements and more.

From now through November 29th, travel onto the Grasping Plateau full of trapped souls and phantom-like monsters. In a maze-like graveyard, knights will find the Apocrea trapping and collecting souls. This sinister being will pursue any who enter the Grasping Plateau hoping to add to the collection. Work together to free souls and find Apocrean Sigil tokens which can be used at the Obelisk of Creation to craft Obsidian weapons and the Grasping Aura.

Gobble Snipes
Our plump little friends, the Gobble Snipes, are on their yearly migration to...we're not really sure where. Hmm. To protect them in transit we Spiral HQ has enclosed them in Gobble Snipe Boxes Boxes. Rest assured I’ve been told there are air holes this time.

Black kats are once again storming the Moorcroft Manor Archives and consuming the precious tomes within! We need all knights of rank 4-1 and greater to gear up and retrieve Ancient Pages from these nefarious creatures. The event will run through July 17th.
Accept the Kataclysmic Confrontation prestige mission and/or fight through kat levels in the Clockworks to find black kats. Then, visit Montague in Moorcroft Manor, or the Mysterious Alchemy Machine in Haven, with your collection of Ancient Pages, to craft some Kat related gear.
If you “accidentally” perform a Dark Ritual and survive the encounter, you may find yourself in possession of a Black Kat Cowl or a Wicked Whisker which allow you to craft the following gear:

SummerTech - Beat The Heat
The heat of summer is baking the residents of Cradle. Spiral HQ’s Department of Gremlin Engineering has done some extensive research and determined that the highly visible tech colors useful in winter also help knights blend in when infiltrating summer festivities. To that end, we’ve issued some high tech gear designed to aid knights when storming the beaches. Check out the Tech Blue, Tech Green, Tech Orange, and Tech Pink summer gear while you’re trying to beat the heat by the pool or in Firestorm Citadel. Some knights were made ready to take off on adventure and reach new heights. For these knights, Spiral HQ has created a special set of items. Soar into Aerodynamic Boxes to zero in on costumes, Contrails Auras, Swing Wings, and all new accessories.
In order to maintain altitude, it’s important to be able to keep your speed up and maintain your course. That’s why we’ve manufactured a Airbraker shield. This shield helps deflect any incoming projectiles while in a chaotic dogfight. If that doesn’t work, dash away and hope your Chaff Pack distracts them.

Additional Notes:

A new accessory slot has been added for the ankle area. This way you can wear a back accessory along with something to keep your ankles warm. If you already had some slippers or other ankle accessories attached, they should automatically be moved to the ankle slot.

We believe we are now finished with some extensive work to our back end. You’ve noticed this ongoing work, but it should now be complete. In doing so, we fixed several long standing problems like the bug reporting system, Steam inventory icons, and several non-player facing issues.

As mentioned before, the bug reporting system is now in working order. This means you can file a bug report by hitting F2. You do this to send a log of what happened to us and report a bug you’ve seen to developers. If you need help in game, please continue to contact support so they know. Support does not review and respond to bug reports, they respond to requests and emails.

Today we have a small patch fix, the Tortodrone Migration, and a celebration of the Year of the Dog.
Patch fix:

Fix the explosions caused by Violent Heart Attack to scale with depth

Added a new icon for auras that utilize a footstep effect

Emote / talking animations now play in the ready room

Various behind the scenes improvements

The pack here at spiral HQ are happy to ring in the Chinese New Year with a howl. We’ve doggedly pursued Wolvers from across Cradle to help us celebrate, but they were more interested in trying to bite us.
This year we’re celebrating with a pupdate full of pawsh hound inspired gear. These fetching new items accessories are sure to help keep you warm - Just watch out for fleas. Show foes what you think of them while wearing a doggie tail. This accessory has curious animations that change depending on your mood. Retrieve a Running Wild Boxes now before they scamper away after March 21st.
The Running Wild contains items such as:

Be sure to collect Ancient Shell materials from the Ancient Grove to craft 3*, 4* and 5* Tortodrone handguns and shields at the Mysterious Alchemy Machine!
The Spiral HQ intel forecasting interns predicts the Tortodrone migration will continue through February 25, 2018. We’re counting on you to protect the magnificent Tortodrones!
