For nearly eight years, Synth Riders has been shaped by one thing above all else: its players. The Riders.
Through new headsets, new platforms, changing trends, and one thing has remained constant; the community that shows up, plays together, and keeps this world moving.
Today, Kluge Interactive is proud to release the biggest feature update in Synth Riders’ history: “Level UP” a progression system, built to celebrate commitment, encourage growth, and welcome a new generation of players into the rhythm.
The new Progression System gives players a long-requested way to record their journey through Synth Riders.
Players can now:
Track personal performance stats across gameplay
Level up and display progress over time
Share milestones and compare progress with friends
Show off their level in both single-player and multiplayer
Whether you’re chasing personal improvement, friendly competition, or just love seeing the numbers reflect the hours you’ve put in, progression makes your time in Synth Riders feel visible, tangible, and earned.
This isn’t about changing how the game feels. But to create a foundation for what’s yet to come.
A More Guided Path for New Riders
While Synth Riders has always thrived on freedom and player expression, we also know that not every new player wants to be dropped into the deep end.
The new progression system introduces a more guided, structured experience for players who prefer a clearer sense of direction:
Where to start
What to aim for next
How do I get the most out of the game
This “hand-held” approach (without ever limiting player choice) helps new Riders feel confident, motivated, and supported, especially those stepping into VR rhythm games for the first time.
It’s an on-ramp, not a restriction.
Built for the Community
Releasing a feature update of this size, right now, is intentional.
This progression system represents:
Continued investment in Synth Riders
A long-term commitment to its players
Confidence in the community that has kept the game alive and thriving
Synth Riders isn’t standing still and neither are the Riders who play it.
This Is Just the Beginning
Progression is not an endpoint. It’s a foundation.
We’ll be watching closely, listening carefully, and evolving the system alongside the community that helped shape it. Your stats, your feedback, your shared moments, they all inform what comes next.
To every Rider who’s been here since day one, and every new player about to jump in: this update is for you.

👑 Our first DLC of 2026 "We Are The Champions" by QUEEN is now live in Synth Riders
After purchase, this DLC can be found in our "Specials" pack! and if you're a collector - consider purchasing through the Complete Collection bundle and save!
🧐If you're still on the fence, make sure to wishlist Synth Riders as more is on the way😉
Written with audience participation in mind, Mercury said "We" in the song's title refers to everyone who is singing it. Brian May called the song "unifying and positive". "We Are the Champions" has become an anthem for victories at sporting events, including its use during the 1994 FIFA World Cup, and has been often used or referenced in popular culture.
[Verse 1]
I've paid my dues Time after time I've done my sentence But committed no crime And bad mistakes I've made a few
[Pre-Chorus]
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through (And I mean to go on and on, and on, and on)
[Chorus]
We are the champions, my friends
And we'll keep on fighting till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions
Of the world
[Verse 2]
I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls
You brought me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise
[Pre-Chorus]
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race
And I ain't gonna lose (And I mean to go on and on, and on, and on)

It’s bold, it’s dramatic, it’s unapologetically Gaga. Whether you’re jumping in for the first time or you’ve had your paws up for years, these tracks will have you dancing, sweating, and serving on every beat.

Visual improvements to The Room and the playable "Synth Invaderz" arcade machine.
Minor localization adjustments.
Spin Mode Challenges will now use your selected Spin Mode stage of choice.
Steam Specific
Improvements to the way Synth Riders handles recentering for SteamVR headsets under OpenXR. (Please note: this only impacts recentering within the application itself, and will not address mismatch between Seated/Standing universe for Roomscale players - would love to hear whether you notice improvement / regression in this behavior)
For Steam Content Creators
Fixed an issue causing spectator cameras fade sphere being visible in other cameras.
Adjusted layering of HUD elements (health / force bars, backgrounds of combo/multiplier boxes) to improve capture when using LIV.
Improvements to the Song Detail Overlay:
Now includes the modifiers in the overlay and updates correctly in Non-Stop Play
Support for printable Unicode characters in the overlay details
Localizable elements (e.g. difficulty, labels) will display in the player's chosen language

Today, back in 2018, we launched a VR game that blended dance choreography with rhythm gaming and a whole lot of synthwave vibes. Synth Riders has grown so much since then – and to celebrate in style, we have a HUGE Synthversary update that includes a brand new FREE song for everyone: ‘Behemoth’ by Faux Tales!
The best part? It's available right now as a gift to all you awesome riders out there whether you’re playing on PC, Meta Quest 3, or on PSVR2.
You’re probably already familiar with Faux Tales’ work….but didn’t realize it. The experimental cinematic sonic style of Timo Loosli (the man behind the sound) has been in everything from game trailers and films, to TV shows, commercials, expos, and frankly, too many things to list here.
If you didn’t already click on the video embed above, the swelling sounds in ‘Behemoth’ are about to take you on a journey. Just close your eyes and listen – you’ll notice rock catching waves of atmospheric electronica.
It goes without saying, we’re HUGE fans of Faux Tales and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our anniversary. You can find the game, right now, in the “Specials” section.
A huge thanks to our beatmapping and choreography team for transforming his track into something that moves us. Thanks to Timo Loosli for being awesome enough to share this music with us. And, of course, thank you – yes, YOU there person reading this.
CONTENT CREATOR UPDATE:
Twitch Integration!
We’re happy to report that with this Synthversary update, you’ll also see the return of the native Twitch Integration! It’s something we’ve been working on so that Streamers can once again take song requests – or, more accurately – be trolled by chat.
Besides that, you’re going to find visual improvements around neon and post-processing effects to support our creators, including mixed reality creators using LIV who can now capture with bloom! We appreciate everyone in the community who reached out to us about these features – we’ve been listening and continue to grow based on what you share with us.
When we talked with Abraham Aguero, co-creator of Synth Riders, about this a little while back, he said, “I can’t believe how many people like to play, connect and share the game and the experience of playing it with others, the Synth Riders Community always surprises me with something new every day.”
We hope to continue surprising our community – and look forward to how you surprise us as well.
MUSIC PACK UPDATE:
Cyberpunk Essentials = Monstercat Music Pack
In addition, a quick heads up for all you Cyberpunk / Monstercat fans out there: If you previously picked up the Cyberpunk Essentials Music Pack, it’s undergoing a name change to the “Monstercat Music Pack.”
What’s with the name change? All your favorite free and purchased Monstercat tracks are now waiting in their new home, the Monstercat Music Pack. Simple as that. Two songs that were originally in Cyberpunk Essentials vol. 1 – “Takeover" by Zardonic and "Cyberpunk (Synth Riders Version)" by Extra Terra – can now be found in their new home as part of the free content in Synthwave Essentials Volume 2.
EVEN MORE COMING IN 2025
Beyond the seven-year celebration mentioned above, we really do have some exciting things ahead. We still have more Music Packs to drop….and some other fun things in the works before the end of 2025.
It’s a little too early to say more except for maybe, THANKS!
We wouldn’t be here, seven years later, without your continued support!

Hey Riders, We've got an exciting drop for you today! Introducing The Smile's ZERO SUM:
Cool, huh? And here's some deep lore: you can’t keep Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood (both from Radiohead), and drummer Tom Skinner locked down! Just before COVID, Skinner and Greenwood formed a small group, The Smile. By 2020, Greenwood brought in his bandmate, Radiohead lead vocalist Thom Yorke, to jam together on several tracks!
What started as a simple project turned into a reveal at the Glastonbury Music Festival in 2021, multiple albums, and tours since! Best way to describe their style: Take Yorke & Greenwood’s other band, then pepper in more jazz, prog rock, and krautrock according to the critics.
Enjoyed playing Radiohead’s “Creep?” Then you’re gonna love The Smile!
