The Super Skullcat plush is back for another run with our friends at Makeship, and this time it’s joined by the brand new Mini Wolf keychain plush!
The Super Skullcat plush has a velcro paw, which it can use to hold the magnum or health juice can that come with it. Every Super Skullcat plush also includes a coupon code for an emote that lets you carry your plush around in-game! And if you pick up both, you’ll get a pair of friendship bracelets as part of Makeship’s FriendSHIP event.
Stay tuned as we have an additional accessory to reveal with the Super Skullcat plush and a digital item for the Mini Wolf keychain. Both plushies can be pre-ordered until Wednesday, September 23rd!
In case you missed it in our v2.2.1 patch notes, we’re putting together a small video showcasing some exceptional plays (and misplays) from the community to celebrate our Rain World x Super Animal Royale collaboration. The main rule is that you have to be playing a Super Slugcat in your clip!
Here’s what’s required, along with a few suggestions to give your clip the best change of being selected!
Required:
1080p or higher
30fps or higher
Keep the highlight to 30 seconds or less, with a few seconds of extra footage before and after the action for editing flexibility
Suggestions for being selected:
Avoid copyrighted music
If you’re streaming, make sure your screen isn’t too busy and the game can be seen!
Voice recordings and reactions are a big plus
Players whose clips are selected will receive some SAW Tickets when the video is released on our social media channels.
We’ve extended the deadline, so just submit your clips to the Dropbox folder below by Monday, September 14th: https://www.dropbox.com/request/2qa98jt8l7r7vn02dw66
We hope you’re all enjoying Super Slugcats, Super Bees, and everything else in the Super Natural midseason! We’re excited to share more about the upcoming v2.3 update as we get closer to its fall release. See you on the island, Super Animals!
Every end a beginning. Every clone another chance. And now, new Super Animals have entered the cycle. We're incredibly excited to finally reveal our collaboration with Videocult and Akupara Games: Rain World x Super Animal Royale . Alongside the collab, the Super Natural Midseaso
Every end a beginning. Every clone another chance. And now, new Super Animals have entered the cycle.
We're incredibly excited to finally reveal our collaboration with Videocult and Akupara Games: Rain World x Super Animal Royale.
Alongside the collab, the Super Natural Midseason Drop includes the highly anticipated Super Bees, the Killer Bee Starter Pack, returning Starter Pack content in the SAW Shop, quality of life improvements and fixes, and a new roadmap for what’s coming next. Find some shelter and let’s dive into it.
Rain World x Super Animal Royale
Rain World and Super Animal Royale look very different on the surface, but underneath they share a similar brutality: predator can become prey in an instant, and the cycle always begins again.
So for this collab, Dr. Dogna has reimagined 8 of Rain World’s slugcats as Super Animals. Meet the Super Slugcats:
Super Slugcat
Super Artificer Slugcat
Super Gourmand Slugcat
Super Hunter Slugcat
Super Monk Slugcat
Super Rivulet Slugcat
Super Saint Slugcat
Super Spearmaster Slugcat
To celebrate the launch of the collab, all 8 Super Slugcats can be researched starting at level 0 for the next month, so players can start hatching them early. After Friday, September 18th, they’ll move to their permanent spot at level 70. We’ve also made it rain a whole lot more in the Social Hub for the first 48 hours of the collab.
Rain World is one of the crossovers we’ve seen requested most often by the community, so we’re especially excited to finally make it happen! If you haven’t played Rain World before, we highly recommend checking it out. You survive as a slugcat in a dangerous, ruined world, searching for food and shelter between torrential downpours while trying not to become food yourself. The game is as tense and brutal as it is beautiful!
Bonus: Super Bee instant unlock (get it before reaching level 30)
Past Starter Pack Content Comes to the SAW Shop
Past Starter Pack content has been one of our most frequent community requests, so we’re especially excited to finally bring it back permanently through bundles in the SAW Shop Archive!
This also brings Starter Packs more in line with our approach to Animal Passes, where content remains available after each season rather than disappearing for good.
The returning Starter Pack bundles cost 1200 SAW Tickets, priced similarly to our other SAW Shop bundles based on cosmetic rarity tiers, and each includes its Super Animal breed and cosmetics.
Future Starter Pack content will also make its way to the SAW Shop after each pack rotates out, but getting each Starter Pack as DLC during its season will still be the best-value way to pick it up.
New in the SAW Shop
We’ve covered plenty of the natural side of Super Natural this season, so let’s get a little supernatural with the new Paranormal Bundle.
The Paranormal Bundle includes:
Paranormal Outfit
Flashlight
Ouija Gravestone
Someone pointed out that we don’t have any koi in the game. So naturally, we fixed that with the new Koi Weapons Bundle.
Koi AK
Koi Sniper
Koi Magnum
Koi Uzi
Actual Super Koi or catchable koi would be pretty fun too, of course, so keep the suggestions coming.
Ask your best friend to pick up the Wedding Bundle with you for some next-level Duos coordination.
Groom Suit
Bride Dress
Wedding Bouquet melee
Keep your games fair with the Referee Bundle!
Referee Outfit
Soccer Ball Cap
Deflated Soccer Ball Gravestone
Red Flag melee
Macawsome has also stocked the SAW Shop with some additional items, including an emote you’ll probably either really love or really hate.
Jaguar Umbrella
Pudding Hat
Queen Dress
6-7 Emote
New in Carl’s Cart
Carl has stocked some new jerseys for anyone looking to coordinate their outfits and look like the Super Pros they are!
Grey Esports Jersey
Pink Esports Jersey
Orange Esports Jersey
Teal Esports Jersey
Highland Twitch Drops
The Highland Twitch Drops campaign is live now with three free cosmetics to earn! Link your Super Animal and Twitch accounts on the SAR Drops website, then watch Drops-enabled SAR streamers on Twitch to get:
Scotsman’s Outfit
Scottish Claymore
Highland Tammy
The campaign runs through Tuesday, September 15th, so you’ve got until then to get your paws on all three!
Changes & Bug Fixes
Changes
Mini Animals will now sleep if their owner is using the Sleepy emote. Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions on this!
New Super Animals in the Research Lab will no longer appear locked once you reach the required level, even if you haven’t found any of their DNA yet.
The login screen has been fully redesigned to provide a more intuitive and straightforward flow.
Using Fish Food on a naturally occurring frenzy now gives you a higher chance of catching larger fish.
Party members now appear in the top-right of the HUD even when you aren’t in the same Social Hub. Their status will indicate whether they’re in a match, the main menu, or another hub.
Added a setting to ignore party invites.
Umbrellas are now loaded dynamically at runtime, reducing the size of the main character texture. Umbrella fans, unite.
Increased the Bullpup’s clip size from 21 to 24 and reduced its burst interval from 0.40s to 0.35s.
Quests that require donating fish or bugs now display the correct total amount required (e.g. 0/46 instead of 0/1).
Added a tiny chance for Bug Detectors and Fish Food to drop from Rebel Caches in the Social Hub.
Pinging a weapon with quick chat now indicates whether it’s bananafied.
The emote wheel in the MTN now plays each emote’s animation when you hover over it.
'Make it Rain' emotes are now considered dances.
Added an /allchat command for private matches to disable [All] chat.
Toned down Cackling Carl’s sounds a bit in the Social Hub.
Fixes
Fixed a bug where having a party member in a different Social Hub could cause the top-right HUD to only show you.
Fixed an issue where some item reward popups wouldn’t show controller selection on the ‘OK’ button.
Increased matchmaking request timeouts and the party wait time from 10s to 15s.
Fixed color issues on some Super Animal skin details in the MTN.
Adjusted chat in BananOS so it doesn’t overlap with the SAW Shop.
NPC Mini Animals can now be petted while they’re sleeping at night, so related quests aren’t blocked by time of day.
Fixed a bug in SvR where you could sometimes eject from the eagle with your armor or powerup hidden.
Fixed an issue where the Bullpup’s shooting animation would sometimes not play when chain firing.
Adjusted the Shotgun aim animation in the MTN so the arms don’t stretch as far.
Fixed some minor dialogue typos.
What’s Next?
With Super Bugs, the Museum of Super Natural History, and a new collab under our belt, it’s time to look ahead at v2.3 and beyond!
Our biggest focus for v2.3 this fall will be a new take on The Bwoking Dead. After spending a lot of our recent updates building out the Social Hub and other game modes, it has been a lot of fun for the team to dive back into The Bwoking Dead and really rethink some of its core elements for a fresh new iteration of the mode. We’ll keep the specifics of what we’re whipping up a surprise for now, but we’re pretty excited about how it’s shaping up. Beyond The Bwoking Dead, we’ll also have our annual Howloween event, a brand new season with a new Animal Pass, Starter Pack, and seasonal content, plus as many quality of life improvements across the game as we can pack in.
Looking further ahead, v2.4 is still being planned out, but we intend to focus on community and competitive improvements to the game. Super Animal Royale has always been designed to be easy to jump into while still having a high skill ceiling and lots of room for player skill expression. Private Matches, scrims, and community events already give players ways to compete at a higher level, and we’d like to build better tools around that side of the game while making sure it still feels like SAR. There are lots of ways competitive support could take shape, and what works for other games might not be right for SAR, so we’ll be thoughtful about what fits the game and expect it to be something we keep building on even beyond v2.4.
We’re also looking at ways to improve matchmaking and avoid splitting the player population across quite so many modes. It’s a tricky one, so we’re open to all your feedback as we work through it! We also have Hamsterball Racing improvements, new Battle Royale mechanics, and lots of UI improvements in our backlog that we’ll be working through, whether in v2.4 or beyond.
As always, plans can shift as we get deeper into development, but we wanted to give you a clearer look at where we’re headed next while still keeping a few surprises under wraps! Keep the feedback coming and we’ll keep taking it into account as we go. We don’t always have time to reply directly to everything, but we’re always discussing feedback from the community across Steam, Discord, Reddit, and social media as we plan future updates. We’re really proud of what the team has been working on, and we can’t wait to show you more later this year!
The Super Museum of Modern Art has been updated with the winners of the Super Natural History fanart contest!
We loved seeing everyone’s takes on the prompt, with several leaning into the more natural or spooky sides of Super Animal World. A huge thank you to all of the participants: your talent and creativity inspire us so much, and we fawned over all your pieces.
While we can only fit 21 pieces in-game, you can check our fanart contest website to see all the wonderful submissions.
Submit your Super Slugcat Clips
With the release of Super Slugcats, we wanted to try putting together a small video showcasing some exceptional plays (and misplays) from the community. The main rule is that you have to be playing a Super Slugcat in your clip!
This is a bit of a new format for us, so we’ve listed the requirements below, along with a few suggestions to give your clip the best chance of being selected!
Required:
1080p or higher
30fps or higher
Keep the highlight to 30 seconds or less, with a few seconds of extra footage before and after for editing flexibility
Suggestions for being selected:
Avoid copyrighted music
If you’re streaming, make sure your screen isn’t too busy and the game can be seen!
Voice recordings and reactions are a big plus
Don’t worry too much about occasional swearing either, since we can always beep those out! Players whose clips are selected will receive some SAW Tickets when the video is released on our social media channels.
Just submit your clips using the Dropbox link below by Friday, September 4th: https://www.dropbox.com/request/2qa98jt8l7r7vn02dw66
We hope you enjoy Super Slugcats, Super Bees, and everything else in this midseason drop! We’re excited to share more about v2.3 as we get closer to the update.

Now we’re keeping the momentum going as temperatures rise with the return of Super Summer Royale! From now until Friday, July 31st, the event brings three weeks of challenges, rewards, and new Super Animal breeds to unlock, starting with a juicy one: the Super Sausage Octopus. Exactly how the sausage gets made is probably best left to the Lab Labs.
We’ve also already made a few player-requested changes based on your first week of Super Natural feedback, including updates to the Social Hub’s day-night cycle and the Merc Class in SAW vs. Rebellion, so let’s dig into everything new this week.
Super Summer Royale Week 1
From now until Friday, July 31st, fruit baskets and sand castles are scattered across the island. Snack on fruit for a quick heal and smash sand castles for resources. Just don’t mix the two up.
The Super Sausage Octopus kicks off the event, just don’t ask how it feels about the Takoyaki melee. As with all new event breeds, it’s a permanent addition to the Research Lab.
5 challenge rewards to earn
Lantern Hat | Collect Fruit (1000)
1500 XP | Find and kick a Beach Ball in a match (5)
Happi outfit | Get Bullpup kills (5)
750 Carl Coins | Smash Sand Castles (10)

Carl’s also stocked his Cart with cosmetics from previous Super Summer Royale events:

Watermelon Cap

Lemon Outfit

Code CANADA contains:
Mountie Outfit
Mountie Hat
Hockey Stick
Code USA contains:
Uncle Sam Outfit
Stars & Stripes Hat
Stars & Stripes Baseball Bat
Day-Night Cycle Changes
We’ve heard your feedback that bug hunting can feel a little rushed, especially when night falls, so both day and night now last a bit longer in the Social Hub:
Daytime: 15min -> 16min
Nighttime: 8min -> 10min
We’ll keep monitoring catch rates and your feedback after these adjustments!
SvR Merc Class Changes
We’ve been having a ton of fun playing the new Merc class in SAW vs. Rebellion with all of you, and your feedback after the first week of Super Natural helped us spot some good opportunities to fine-tune it. Merc is meant to keep you on your toes with random loadouts, but some rolls could end up too weak, too strong, or a little too Bwoking Launcher.
To make things a little more consistent and balanced, Merc now uses more curated randomized loadouts so they stay viable and fun without swinging too far in either direction. We’ve also made the Bwoking Launcher less common and exclusive to Merc II.
Please keep the feedback coming and let us know what you think of the changes! It’s been a lot of fun seeing everyone enjoying Merc so far, and we’ll continue monitoring and tweaking it as needed while keeping its unpredictable identity intact.
Additional Fixes
We’ve also made a few quick fixes to the PC/Mac builds on Steam, which are planned to roll out on consoles in a future update:
We heard your feedback that the new chat box was taking up too much space during PvP matches, so it now adapts to be shorter just in PvP modes and is also a bit narrower overall.
Fixed long names on the friends list causing visual glitches.
Fixed a soft crash that could happen on the main menu and bananOS when using silent emotes.
Fixed a rare bug where some objects and walls could appear invisible after a few matches.
We also fixed a quest issue on all platforms where using Fish Food on an existing frenzy wasn’t giving credit for the "Chum for your Chums" quest.
Super Summer Royale Continues Next Week
We’ll be back next week with more summer challenges, rewards, and another new Super Animal breed to unlock! If you missed last week’s Super Natural Update, you can catch up on everything new in the full patch notes.

The first playable Super Bugs have joined the fight and the Museum of Super Natural History has opened its doors in the Super Natural Update!
Fishing and bug catching have received their biggest update yet, with the new museum for your bug collection, functional aquarium tanks at Super Sea Land, a day-night cycle in the Social Hub alongside new critters and catching tools.
And competition gets fiercer too with the new Bullpup burst rifle joining the rotating weapon lineup alongside SAW vs. Rebellion updates including a new Merc class and class helmets.

The Museum of Super Natural History and functional aquarium tanks display your bug and fish collections
First-ever playable Super Bugs arrive: Super Moths & Ants

SAW vs. Rebellion receives the new Merc class, custom class helmets, smarter bots, and more quality-of-life improvements
The New Chat Experience (Beta) on PC lets you message Discord friends directly between SAR and Discord, alongside a fully redesigned in-game chat box
There’s a lot packed into this update, and the trailer above gives you the quick tour. We also invited SAR Content Creators to explore it early, so you can watch their first reactions to everything new here:
Now, let’s stay a while and take a gander at everything in the Super Natural Update!
Museum of Super Natural History
The Museum of Super Natural History has finally opened its doors after months of beaver construction! This new point of interest is more than just a staging ground for your gunfights. Its exhibits let you show off your bug collection, and when you’re in a party, you can view your friends’ collections too!
But what about the fish?
Super Sea Land’s aquarium tanks are now fully functional, displaying your fish collection or the collections of your friends. We’ve wanted to bring these tanks to life ever since we first added Super Sea Land in the Sea Legs Update years ago, so we’re super excited to see them swimming with your very own fish at last!
Exterminators Beware: Super Bugs Are Here
The highly requested Super Moths and Super Ants have joined the fight as Super Animal Royale’s first playable Super Bugs!
Super Ants can be unlocked in the Research Lab at level 10:
Super Ant
Super Blue Ant
Super Fire Ant
Super Army Army Ant
Super Moths can be unlocked at level 70:
Super Moth
Super Red Moth
Super Grey Moth
Super Rosy Moth
Super Natural Pass
With such a nature-themed update, a nature-themed Animal Pass only made sense, naturally. The Super Natural Pass celebrates the arrival of Super Bugs and the grand opening of the Museum of Super Natural History with new cosmetics inspired by bugs, fish and nature, as well as the Mini Elephant pet and Shrug emote.
During this season, the Super Natural Pass will be available for a discounted price of 550 SAW Tickets.
As always, Animal Passes never expire, so you can continue working on passes you own from previous seasons on your second track, or purchase previous ones from The Archive for 750 SAW Tickets.
Super Natural Starter Pack
Like a moth to a lamppost, the Super Natural Starter Pack is here!
The Social Hub and collecting are getting a lot of quality of life additions this update!
Day-Night Cycle
The Social Hub now has a (Super) natural Day-Night Cycle! Along with bringing new ambience to the island, certain fish and bugs only appear during the day or at night. Many NPCs and Mini Animals will even settle in for some sleep after dark, but you can still wake NPCs up to chat or continue their quests. All “come back tomorrow” quests now reset with the next in-game morning too, rather than making you wait a full real-world day!
You might be wondering: will this come to other game modes? The short answer is that we’re not sure yet, but it’s possible, and we’d love to hear what you think after trying it in the Social Hub. For now, matches will still be set during either the day or night from the beginning of each round, but let us know if you’d like us to explore bringing the full cycle to matches in the future!
30+ New Bugs & Fish to Catch
We’ve added 30+ new bugs and fish to discover across the island, with some only available during day or night! Good luck tracking them all down. Thankfully, the Museum staff have some new tools to help with completing your collections...
Fish Food & Bug Detectors
Introducing Fish Food and Bug Detectors! These new utility items can be purchased with Carl Coins from Museum staff members stationed around the Social Hub and carried in a new utility slot in your inventory.
Fish Food can be thrown into fish pools to make fish bite and respawn faster for everyone fishing there.
Bug Detectors reveal nearby rare-or-higher bugs, show how far away they are and how much longer they’ll be available. Indicators are shared with everyone in your party too!
Both tools make collecting with friends more active and engaging, while helping everyone fill out their collections!
To learn more about how the new tools work, visit Tantalus the Super Moth at the Museum of Super Natural History and Berryessa the Super Raccoon at Super Sea Land to start their new quests. Accomplished collectors will also find additional new quests from Wild Bull Hickok and Nibbles.
New Weapon: Bullpup Rifle
Thomas Sledison has been working on the long-requested burst rifle and is proud to unveil the Bullpup, a gun with enough bite to match its bark! He wanted to call it the DAUG, but the SAW higher-ups decided that was one pun too far.
The Bullpup fires in three-round bursts, making it ideal for mid to long-range combat, and holds 21 rounds per clip. Scoping in using the creep button also provides a small zoom.
The Bullpup can be found in Common, Uncommon, and Rare versions across all game modes, with an epic tier exclusive to the Tier 2 Merc class in SvR, and will take over the daily weapon rotation slot until Tuesday, July 21st.
Uzis & Dualzis Become Permanent
Uzis & Dualzis are graduating into the permanent weapon pool! They were among our best-received rotating weapons, so they now have kill tracking and a full set of milestone skins alongside some balance adjustments (detailed below) to better define their role in the full lineup.
Weapon Balancing
We’ve made several balance changes to better define each weapon’s role, with a particular focus on our rotating weapons. As the weapon roster continues to grow, we’ll keep looking for more ways to expand their availability.
The range of Uzis and Dualzis has been reduced by approximately 22%, positioning them more clearly between shotguns and the SMG.
X-Ray Cannon now uses 3 Superite ammo per shot and no longer breaks armor, but still deals damage through it.
Blunderbuss reload time has been reduced from 1.8s to 1.5s.
Bwoking Launcher ammo capacity has been increased to 6, and time between shots reduced from 0.50s to 0.45s.
SAW vs. Rebellion Improvements
SAW vs. Rebellion has received new additions and improvements thanks to all the feedback you shared when we asked what you’d like to see next! We received more great ideas than we could fit into one update, including some that would need more time and a larger SvR refresh, so we’re keeping those in mind for the future and you can keep the feedback coming.
New Class: Merc
A new class has entered the rotation: Merc! You’ll spawn with a randomized loadout drawn from rotating weapons and others that don’t normally appear in SvR, with possibilities including the Bullpup, Dualzis, Bwoking Launcher, X-Ray Cannon, and Blunderbuss. With so many different combinations, you’ll need to adapt your strategy to whatever equipment you’re dealt!
Class Helmets
Each class now has its own helmet, making them easier to identify at a glance. The helmets are also shown on the class selection screen, alongside how many of your teammates are playing as each class.
Bot Improvements
Bot improvements were one of the most popular requests, so we’ve adjusted how they rotate between and defend flags:
Bots stick around flags while a teammate is capturing them.
Bots that capture a flag will remain there and defend it for a short time.
Some bots will visit team-owned flags more often and hold their position there briefly.
Save Multiple Tier 2 Upgrades
Changing classes no longer resets your progress toward tier 2, so you can switch more freely and even have tier 2 upgrades ready to activate across multiple classes at once. Each upgrade can still only be activated once before you’ll need to earn it again.
New Chat Experience (Beta) on PC
The chat box on PC/Mac has been redesigned to make it easier to keep up with your squad and team, and, for the first time, chat with your Discord friends without leaving the game!
To enable Discord DMs and friend invites, open BananOS, select the Social button in the top right, and sign into Discord from the Discord tab. You’ll then be able to message Discord friends directly from SAR and receive their replies in dedicated in-game DM tabs.
New Chat Feed and DM tabs make it easier to switch between All, Squad, and direct messages, with more messages visible at once and cleaner formatting
DM conversations are remembered throughout your play session and can be closed individually with a mouse or controller
New tags identify Discord messages, developers, moderators, and Founders Edition owners, with clearer team colors for squads, SvR, and Bwoking Dead
The quest tracker now fades when the chat box overlaps it to give the chat box more room
SvR flag captures no longer clutter the chat feed
Once Discord is linked, DMs from all your Discord friends appear in SAR chat by default. In Settings, you can limit incoming Discord DMs to conversations started from SAR or Discord friends you’ve messaged during that session, keeping unrelated conversations hidden.
If you'd like to prevent all Discord DMs from appearing in SAR while keeping Discord friend invites enabled, open the Discord app and go to Content & Social > Connected Games.

Updates, Improvements & Bug Fixes
While we’re welcoming plenty of new bugs to the island, we’ve also been squashing some old ones and making improvements to performance, quality of life, and more! A few changes arrive on PC first, and will be ported later to consoles.
Quality of Life & Other Improvements
Added a setting to use default weapon sounds for your own weapon skins
Mini Animal pets now remain idle and quiet while you’re fishing to avoid spooking the fish
Servers will now make additional attempts to find a non-ocean gas circle in Animal Royale
Reduced the volume of the Legendary Fish sparkle sound
Updated the style of the Museum NPC indicator icon
Bwoking Dead and SvR matchmaking in the South American region will now use North American servers to reduce mode splitting. This may result in higher ping for players in the region, but should help create fuller matches
PC ONLY: Added a setting to mute audio while the game is alt-tabbed
PC ONLY: The Low VFX Quality setting now also disables UI blur effects, which may improve performance on lower-end devices
PC ONLY: Increased some party matchmaking time limits to help reduce errors on the ferry scene
PC ONLY: Added icons to each Settings category button
Performance & Optimization
Updated the Spine SDK to v4.2 and changed some animation file imports from JSON to Bytes for faster loading
Reworked floor textures in SAW Research Buildings 1 and 3 and the Health Juice Factory to use smaller tiles and stamps, reducing memory usage with minimal visual differences
Several game objects are now reused between scenes to reduce memory allocations and fragmentation, including environment objects, roofs, ground textures, and zip-lines
Reduced memory allocations during map loading
Adjusted several audio import settings to reduce memory usage during gameplay
Bug Fixes
Fixed a missing wall on the right side of Crocodile Club
Fixed a long-standing issue where changing direction while rolling could cause some incoming shots not to register
Hopefully fixed a rare throwable desync issue that could occur after using bananafied weapons
Fixed glasses not appearing on the Preview FX screen
Fixed grenades sometimes leaving behind a shadow when client simulation finished after the server
Fixed respawn serum disappearing in private matches
Fixed some dialogue buttons using the game language instead of the selected story language
Fixed typos in NPC dialogue
Fixed an error that could occur when loading in near a player who was emoting
Fixed overly bright lighting while freely moving in Ghost Mode
Fixed players being able to drink Health Juice while using a respawn tank
PC ONLY: Fixed Social menu not opening on Steam Deck
PC ONLY: Fixed equipped weapon skins sometimes not carrying over into the next match
PC ONLY: The minimap no longer fades due to phantom mouse input when playing with a controller or on Steam Deck
What’s next?
Super Summer Royale kicks off next week on Tuesday, July 7th with new challenges, cosmetics, and Super Animal breeds to unlock!
After that, we’ll be working on another small midseason update for later in the summer, followed by our next major update and new season, v2.3, in the fall. Now that we’ve ticked off most of the items from January’s roadmap, we’re planning to put together another one, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
And that’s everything new in our Super Natural Update! Subscribe to our newsletter to keep up with the summer event and upcoming updates, and follow us on:

Playable Super Bugs join the fight and the Museum of Super Natural History opens its doors on June 30th in Super Animal Royale’s Super Natural Update (v2.2)!
Fishing and bug catching are getting their biggest update since the Super Animal World expansion, with new ways to collect, display, and show off your discoveries. Visit the brand new Museum of Super Natural History to view your bug collection and your friends’ collections, check out functional aquariums for your fish at Super Sea Land, and explore the Social Hub’s new day-night cycle. New tools like Bug Detectors and Fish Food will also help you fill out your collections with friends.
Super Moths and Super Ants make their debut as the first ever playable Super Bugs! The update also includes the new Super Natural Pass, Starter Pack, and quality of life updates for both life between matches and fights to the death.
And it’s not all about relaxing and catching bugs with friends: the Bullpup burst rifle makes its debut with enough bark to match its bite. SAW vs. Rebellion is also getting updates with the new, randomized Merc class, class helmets, and quality of life improvements.

Incoming transmission: the Bright Future Midseason Update has landed!
Our midseason updates often include a new Super Animal breed or two, but this time the Lab Labs may have gone a bit overboard. The update includes a new Starter Pack, 9 new Super Animal breeds, Discord integration, cosmetic previews, shop items, fixes, and more.
Highlights
The new Alien Overlord Starter Pack has arrived, featuring the Super Alien Wolf, the Alien Overlord Robe, Alien Overlord Crown, 600 SAW Tickets and a bonus early unlock of the Super Wolf if you don’t have it. Galactic conquest sold separately.
9 new Super Animal breeds are now available in the Research Lab, including the Super Maine Coon, Super Alien Raven, Super Wolverine, and more.
You can now link Super Animal Royale with Discord in the Steam version of SAR to see your Discord friends list in-game and send them crossplay party invites straight to the Discord client.
The SAW Shop now has cosmetic previews, and we’ve updated 50+ existing cosmetics with new and improved sounds.
Tutorial skip: New players can now skip the Super Animal World intro sequence if they want to get into the action with friends faster (although we still recommend playing it).
You can check out the short video version of the highlights on YouTube, or keep reading below for the full supply drop.
Alien Overlord Starter Pack
For the first time in a midseason update, we’re releasing a new Starter Pack! The Super Alien Wolf is fresh out of the Research Lab and ready to conquer the entire galaxy, starting with Super Animal World. Definitely the galaxy eventually, though.
Bonus: Super Wolf early unlock (if you don’t already own it)
The Alien Overlord Starter Pack will be available alongside the Bright Future Starter Pack for the rest of the Bright Future season.
We’re planning to make cosmetics from past Starter Packs available again in the future too, but Starter Packs will remain the best-value way to pick them up during their original run.
9 New Super Animal Breeds
The Super Alien Wolf wasn’t the only creature to escape the Labs this update: 9 new Super Animal breeds are now available to unlock!
Super Maine Coon (Super Cat - Level 1), suggested by cherry_lollipop
Super Black and Tan Shiba Inu (Super Dog - Level 1)
Super Black Poodle (Super Dog - Level 1)
Super Canada Goose (Super Duck - Level 10), suggested by Leon13639
Super Siamese Mouse (Super Rat - Level 20), suggested by Shaz
Super Squirrel Monkey (Super Monkey - Level 20)
Super Alien Raven (Super Raven - Level 40), suggested by ilovebts7752
Super Wolverine (Super Badger - Level 60)
Super Peahen (Super Peacock - Level 70)
A huge thanks to everyone in our Discord who shared breed suggestions, including the community members credited above. Also, if you saw the Super Wolverine briefly escape confinement earlier this month: no you didn’t, bub.
New Features
Discord Integration
The Steam version of Super Animal Royale can now be optionally linked with Discord! Once you sign in, you can view your Discord friends list in-game and send crossplay party invites through the Discord client.
Veteran Super Animals may remember we had a similar feature back in the day, so we’re excited to bring it back in a new form. We’re planning to keep building on this integration too, so let us know if you run into any issues or have feedback!
Note: Discord invites require activity status sharing to be enabled in the Discord client. If invites aren’t appearing, check your Discord Activity Privacy settings.
Cosmetic Previews + New Sounds
The SAW Shop now has cosmetic previews, so you can check out an item’s sounds and visual effects before purchasing it.
We’ve also added new custom sounds for 50+ existing SAW Shop cosmetics, giving many items you may already own a bit more character and personality. A lot of care went into these, so try out some old favorites and give them a listen!
Tutorial Skip
New players can now skip the Super Animal World intro sequence if they want to jump straight into the action. We still recommend experiencing it, since it’s more than just a tutorial: it introduces the world, characters, and storylines that future quests will build on. For anyone just looking to join their friends faster though, it’s now an option.
This feature is rolling out first on Steam for PC/Mac players, and will arrive on consoles in a later update.
Other Quality of Life Improvements
We’ve also made a fresh batch of quality of life improvements and behind the scenes updates:
Updated the game’s engine from Unity 2019 to Unity 2021. This under the hood upgrade helps support features like the new Discord integration, modernizes the game’s technical foundation, and may bring small stability or performance improvements in some cases. The game should otherwise feel the same!
The Mac version is now an Intel and Apple silicon build. Some users might find that their local settings have reset, so be sure to check if you use this version.
Ambient music has been added for the Hamsterball Stadium.
Friends in the Social screen now show the platform icon on the right side.
Renamed "Additional Info" in settings to "Extras."
Updated the floor grid design under the character on some BananOS screens.
After winning a match, your next Social Hub join will send you to Victory Island. If your next match is a loss, you’ll now be sent to the Welcome Center instead, but you can still return to Victory Island for the rest of the day between wins. This keeps Victory Island focused on celebrating wins, while the Welcome Center remains the main Social Hub gathering spot.
Changes rolling out today on PC/Mac first, with consoles to follow in a future patch:
Added a Super Animal unlock animation in MTN Research Labs, similar to the old main menu tanks.
Milestone category buttons now show markers when they contain unclaimed items.
Talking to Carl when visiting the shop now automatically scrolls to Carl’s Cart. Clicking shop categories also has a new animated transition between sections.
On the Customize and Emotes screens, the "None" option will now remain present while searching.
Hid the [Esc] prompt on the HUD for Steam Deck.
New in the SAW Shop
Thomas’s Apprentice Bundle
Sledison is always looking for more helpers in his workshop! He seems to go through them pretty quickly for some reason, but the good news is that aspiring new apprentices now have plenty of gear in stock.
The bundle includes:
Thomas’s Apprentice Outfit
Thomas’s Apprentice Hat
Pliers
Cyber Weapons Bundle
Bring a sleek, high-tech edge to your loadout with the new Cyber Weapons Bundle.
The bundle includes:

Ms. Macawsome has also stocked new cyber gear, retro sci-fi outfits, and the new Robot Dance emote:

New in Carl’s Cart

Carl has also stocked his cart with new retro-future styles, and these Super Apes have taken a suspiciously strong liking to them.

Green Space Simian Robe

Bug Fixes
And of course, we’ve been hard at work smashing bugs. Don’t worry, not the cute catchable kind. We would never.
Fixed skunk bombs from Banan Altars appearing with a white outline.
Fixed an issue where your status in SAR Friends would not load correctly, causing players set to invisible to appear online next session.
Fixed friend statuses not updating after reconnecting to SAR friends.
Fixed game mode music playing indefinitely after canceling auto-accept as a non-host.
Updated Rabbita's photo for "The Gift of Gab" quest to fix some continuity errors.
Fixed two broken bug spawns at Pete’s Swamp and the farm.
Fixed bananas thrown at Banan Altars causing invisible interactions for the Banana Forker.
Fixed players spawning outside of the end-of-world MTN station.
Fixed the "Grand Theft Emu" quest completing with just one player in Solos. To account for the extra difficulty, the allowed time for stealing has been increased.
Fixed a bug where being killed in the Bwoking Dead mid-zipline while infected would leave you downed as a zombie.
Fixes rolling out today on PC/Mac first, with consoles to follow in a future patch:
Fixed the Friends tab sometimes not showing the "JOIN SOCIAL HUB" button.
The racing end screen will now automatically hide when talking to an NPC.
Fixed an issue where buying and equipping shop or Animal Pass items would not play custom melee or gun skin sounds unless you swapped skins at the MTN.
Fixed a bug where unlocking multiple weapon skins would only show new item markers on one skin at a time in the Customize tab.
Fixed “new item” spam when installing SAR on a different device.
Fixed a bug where changing your Super Animal preset and then researching a new Super Animal would cause your previous preset outfit to be copied onto the current one.
Fixed a bug where canceling a Super Animal unlock in the Research Lab while using a controller would select the wrong Super Animal.
Fixed a bug where quests that track numbers with decimal points (such as “Walk 5km”) would incorrectly appear as completed on the HUD before they were actually completed.
Decreased the sorting order of bananas by 1 SAU, since they would sometimes appear over small walls like the ones at Hamsterball Stadium.
Cleaned up a few unused/old menus and images that were still in the game, saving a few MB on game size.
The Featured Weapon timer now switches from days and hours to hours and minutes when the remaining time is short.
What’s next?
We’re already hard at work on v2.2, including improvements shaped by your feedback from Super Animal World’s launch and the recent SAW vs Rebellion discussion here on Steam.
We’re not ready to share the full rundown just yet, but your comments have been genuinely helpful as we prioritize what comes next. Thanks as always for taking the time to let us know what’s working, what isn’t, and what you’d like to see next.
Keep letting us know your thoughts in the comments!

The Super Spring Animals have also made the jump from Twitch Drops into the Research Lab, so you can now unlock them all there:
Super Sable Lop Bunny
Super Fawn
Super Appaloosa Horse
Super Spotted Lop Bunny
Featured Weapon Rotation
As promised in the Bright Future patch notes, Featured Weapon Rotation is now live! Every 24 hours, the featured weapon in Battle Royale will rotate between the Uzis, Triple-Barrel Blunderbuss, and Bwoking Launcher.
This system gives us room to keep experimenting with limited-time weapons without bloating the core weapon lineup, and also helps keep gameplay fresh day to day. We expect to add more weapons to the rotation over time, so stay tuned.
The X-Ray Cannon was a more experimental weapon, and the current rotation system doesn’t include Mole Crate weapons, so we’ve moved it into the archive for now. Let us know if you’d like to see it return, and what you’d want changed if it does!
WANTED: S.A.W. vs. Rebellion Feedback
We’re hard at work on the next big update for the game, and one area we’d especially like more player feedback on is S.A.W. vs. Rebellion.
If you’ve got thoughts, please leave them in the Steam Discussion below. We’ll be reading through it closely and taking notes!
To give you a sense of the kinds of improvements we’re thinking about, we’re already looking at adding class-specific helmets to make it easier to identify classes at a glance. We’re also brainstorming whether there’s a good way to bring featured weapons into the mode, and we’d like to add some SvR-specific milestones too.
We’d love to add a new SvR map too, but that one’s trickier. It means finding a part of the island that feels fair for both teams, with terrain and layout that work well for flag placements and the mode’s wide map shape. If you’ve got ideas for spots you think could work, let us know!
We’d also love to hear your thoughts on Twinkle, our lovable Giant Star-Nosed Mole. The mechanic is meant to create comeback opportunities while also helping one-sided matches end faster, but we’d love to hear any ideas you have for how we could improve it.
SvR updates will only be one part of v2.2, but it’s a mode we haven’t had much chance to revisit in a while, so we’re excited to dig back into it.
See you in the Steam Discussion, and we’ll also be following the conversations in Discord and Reddit.
That’s all we have for today, Super Animals. We hope you enjoy the new Super Cartoon Gorilla and the Featured Weapon Rotation, and we’re looking forward to digging into your feedback.

Super Animals are no strangers to getting their paws dirty, and Week 2 of Respawning Day is here with a gardening-themed batch of challenges and rewards that trade sowing chaos for sowing seeds.
The new Super Grass Capybara has sprouted from the Research Lab. Whether it was engineered that way or just sat still long enough for grass to grow over it, the island may never know, but like all event breeds it’s a permanent addition.

Thomas Sledison Plush Launches This Friday!
We’ve been busy, busy in the workshop with our friends at Makeship getting our newest plush campaign ready: the Thomas Sledison plush! Sledison has been a fan favorite for a long time, and with his big role in Bright Future, this felt like the perfect time to finally give SAR’s busiest inventor a plush of his own.
The plush features a fully detachable coat and hat, and every order comes with a coupon code you can redeem for the in-game Sledison Plush Emote, which lets your Super Animal carry around its very own little Sledison plush (ideal for bringing your own tiny backseat inventor into Sledison’s workshop).
The campaign goes live this Friday, April 10th, and we also have giveaways running now on our Twitter and Instagram from now until the campaign begins, so follow us there if you’d like a chance to enter.
Fixed Hot Mode showing progress ticks from the previous day.
Fixed Chinese text input bug on Switch.
And the following fixes are also already live on Steam and will roll out to consoles in a later patch:
Fixed an issue where friends would occasionally not have the Join Hub option.
Fixed the cross-play party Kick button not working, though consoles will still need a patch for the fix to fully roll out.
Fixed an issue causing quest auto-tracking to revert on the client UI.
We’re also working on a few other known issues. We’ve identified the cause of one where some cross-play parties with a Switch 1 player can fail to connect to matches, and a fix is already on the way in the next Switch patch. Thanks for bearing with us in the meantime!
Upcoming Server Testing
Over the next week or so, we’ll be testing new server providers and trying a few different server setups as we explore potential improvements. We’re cautiously optimistic that this could lead to a better experience overall, but we’d love to hear your feedback on how matches feel during the trial.
We’ll be monitoring things closely throughout the test period and comparing how the different options perform. Once we’ve had time to review the results, we’ll share more about what we learned and what we plan to roll out more broadly.

Lots more is packed in too, including the new Swampwater Breezeway Hamsterball Racing track, Banana Crabs, shop updates, and plenty of updates to gameplay, Social Hub and UI (plus a Makeship plush tease)
If you’d rather watch the highlights, here’s our Developer Overview:
Now, let’s dive into everything packed into the Bright Future Update.
A Meteorite Has Landed in Super Animal World!
Northeast of SAW Labs, a huge meteorite has landed, and the island’s factions have very different ideas about what it means.
The meteorite contains a strange, vibrant new material called Banananite. Thomas Sledison is eager to mine as much of it as he can for weapons development in his workshop, convinced it could lead to all kinds of wonderful, dangerous new inventions. The Cult of Banan, meanwhile, believes the Banananite meteorite is something much more sacred, and the yellow, softly-curved shape of its fragments does seem to suggest there may be something to their devotion.
They’re not the only ones captivated by it. The Super Simian Space Society has sprung up in response, an earnest new space-enthusiast club founded by two Super Apes, Ham and Enos, who are convinced the meteor points toward a bright future for Super Animal-kind among the stars.
Embark on new NPC storylines and quests by talking to Ham & Enos, Thomas Sledison, and the Deacon of Banan. Whether you’re helping a would-be space society win official recognition, testing Sledison’s latest experiments, or uncovering the mysteries of Banananite itself, there’s plenty to dig into.
A-peel to a Higher Power: Banan Altars
Since the meteorite crashed down, mysterious Banan Altars have been reported popping up around the island. Built from fragments of sacred Banananite and awaiting tribute, they can be found during Animal Royale matches in solos, duos, and squads.
According to some, offerings of bananas and even Giant Emus may reward the faithful, though worshippers should also beware of punishments. Large offerings can reward powerful weapons, and those gifts come with a twist: bananafied weapons that send slippery bananas flying mid-fight. Praise Banan, but worship at your own risk.
The Bright Future Pass Has Landed
The Bright Future Pass celebrates the meteor’s arrival while bringing the update’s retro-future sci-fi theme to life, with the Mini Rhino, Moonwalk emote, and loads of cosmetics inspired by classic sci-fi.
During this season, the Bright Future Pass is available at a discounted price of 550 SAW Tickets.
As always, Animal Passes never expire. You can keep working on passes you already own on your second track, or pick up older ones from The Archive for 750 SAW Tickets.
(EXTRA TRANSMISSION RECEIVED. TRANSLATING) The Bright Future Starter Pack includes:
Super Alien Cat
Alien Spacesuit
Alien Specimen
600 SAW Tickets
The Grand Opening Starter Pack that debuted alongside the Super Animal World expansion will only be available for one more week before going into the vault. We plan to bring back past season starter packs again in the future in a new format, but if you’ve been meaning to grab this one, now’s the time.
New Weapons: Uzi, Dualzis, and the X-Ray Cannon
Time to spray and pray: the Uzi has arrived as a faster, wilder, and more close-quarters version of the SMG! Plus, if you find two Uzis, you can dual wield them to make an extra-chaotic pair of Dualzis.
The Uzi and Dualzis are also part of a new featured weapon rotation. After Respawning Day, this featured slot will rotate daily between the Uzi and Dualzis, the Blunderbuss, and the Bwoking Launcher to keep gameplay fresh. As we add more limited-time weapons in the future, we expect that lineup to grow too.
The X-Ray Cannon has also arrived as our first limited-time Mole Crate weapon! It uses Superite ammo and deals 100 damage when fully charged, or 50 through armor. Shots can pierce up to 3 enemies, with damage falling off after each hit.
Sneaking while holding the X-Ray Cannon will enter x-ray vision mode, letting you see through walls and track down where other players are hiding. Be careful, though: x-ray vision slows you down and makes a distinct sound that nearby players can hear.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on how the X-Ray Cannon plays, so let us know what you think. Depending on the response, we may tweak it or bring it back again in the future!
Hot Mode and Community-Requested Improvements
Hot Mode is here! Every 24 hours, one game mode will be marked as the day’s Hot Mode. For the first 5 matches you play in that mode, you’ll get an extra 25% XP! And don’t worry too much if you get eliminated early; you’ll always get a minimum 100 XP from completing a Hot Mode match.
Our goal with Hot Mode is to encourage fuller lobbies in the featured mode each day with a small bonus, while still keeping it optional. It’s something we’ll be monitoring, and we’d love to hear your thoughts on how it’s working so far and any similar features you’d like to see in future updates.
More Featured Community Requests
We’ve also added some of the community-requested improvements we’ve been hearing about a lot from all of you, aimed at making both core modes and the Social Hub smoother to move between and easier to navigate.
Play Again lets party hosts requeue everyone automatically once the group returns to the hub so you can re-queue right away without opening the modes screen. You can also cancel it by opening the Game Modes screen. Note: the spectate button has moved to the bottom right of the endgame screen, and can still also be triggered with the escape key.
Auto-Accept Queue is here and enabled by default, with a 10-second cancel window to make it easy to finish up what you’re doing while avoiding a missed match. If you prefer the old manual queue flow, you can switch back to it in the Game Modes screen.
We’ve finally added a Search bar to Customize and Emotes at MTN stations! With over 2,000 cosmetic items in the game, this is a really nice and long-requested addition.
The BananOS Social screen now includes Recent and Nearby players to make it easier to add friends, report, or mute.
It’s now easier to join friends’ Social Hubs directly from their profile (it works bi-directionally, not just for party hosts).
There are plenty more improvements and new features listed below as well, and we still have lots more planned for BananOS in future releases. Keep the feedback coming and we’ll keep refining it!
New in the SAW Shop
The LED Bundle and LED Guns Bundle are here to help you light up the island in proper retro-future style. You can pick them up from Ms. Macawsome’s shop, no trip to cyberspace required.
The LED Bundle includes:
LED Helmet
LED Outfit
LED Sword
The LED Guns Bundle includes:
Dogna’s LED Dartfly Gun
LED M16
LED SMG
LED Silenced Pistol
Beyond the bundles, the SAW Shop has a great Spring 2026 collection to help you celebrate Bright Future and Respawning Day:
Atom Hat
Casual Dress
Neon Umbrella
Rainbow Emote
Sakura Bonsai Gravestone (thanks to zomzartisticz for the suggestion!)
Sakura Scythe (thanks to SAILORo7 for the suggestion!)
New in Carl’s Cart
Not to be outdone by Ms. Macawsome, Carl has stocked his cart with some new outfits if you’re looking to dress for the island’s latest space craze. Don’t worry, wearing the red one won’t get you killed first... probably.
Here’s what you can pick up from the Cart:
Red Space Commander Outfit
Yellow Space Commander Outfit
Green Space Commander Outfit
Blue Space Commander Outfit
Super Gorillas and Chimpanzees are Going Bananas
The Lab Labs have finally expanded the Research Lab’s simian lineup with Super Gorillas and a Super Chimpanzee breed! Turns out even the Lab Labs weren’t immune to the island’s space craze.
You can unlock these Super Gorilla breeds in the Research Lab beginning at level 40:
Super Gorilla
Super White Gorilla
Super Brown Gorilla
Super Grape Gorilla
Super Chimpanzee
Bonus: Super Alien Breeds
The Lab Labs decided the island’s latest obsession with the stars could use a few more visitors, so they bio-engineered a whole invasion’s worth of new “Alien” Super Animal breeds.
Available now in the Research Lab (the required unlock level is listed beside each breed):
Super Alien Bat (Level 80)
Super Alien Chinchilla (Level 50)
Super Alien Cow (Level 40)
Respawning Day Is Back With 3 Weeks of Challenges
Rejoice and Respawn! The Respawning Day event has begun, our holiday celebrating spring, eggs, and the miracle of clone-based functional immortality. Plus, free eggs on the ground.
From now until Friday, April 24th, colorful Super Eggs are hidden around the island. You can pick them up for a small heal, and you’ll also earn them by completing matches in any mode. Fabergé Giant Emu Eggs have popped up too, and smashing or shooting them will get you the prizes inside.
New challenge sets will unlock each week, so check back here or on social media to see what’s new. Once they unlock, you’ll have until the end of the event to complete them all!
Respawning Day Week 1
Week 1 is live now, and here’s what you can unlock right away:
5 challenge rewards to earn
Easter Egg Pullover | Collect Super Eggs (1000)
1500 XP | Smash Fabergé Giant Emu Eggs (7)
Eggshell Umbrella | Banana Slip an Enemy
750 Carl Coins | Destroy Skunk Mushrooms (5)
Gestation Pod melee | Break Enemy Armor (50)
New Super Animal breed
Super Cloud Skunk (Available at Level 20)
Banana Crab Frenzy
For the first 48 hours of the update, Banana Crabs will be swarming the beaches in a slippery April Fools frenzy. Watch your step, because touching them will make you slip! After the frenzy ends, Banana Crabs will remain in the Social Hub as a permanent new catchable bug, but at a much rarer Legendary tier.
As always, new Super Animal breeds introduced during events stay permanently available in the Research Lab, so unlocking them isn’t time-sensitive. Happy egg hunting!
Gameplay Changes
Respawn Tank respawn timers have been adjusted. Respawning one teammate now takes 9 seconds, two teammates take 11 seconds, and three teammates take 13 seconds (previously, it always took 9 seconds regardless of how many players were being respawned).
Accordingly, the number of teammates respawned is now based on how many vials you’ve collected when you start the respawn. Picking up a new teammate vial during the respawn will not add that player to the current respawn, so you’ll need to cancel and restart it to include them, or find another Respawn Tank.
Respawn Tank cooldown has also been increased from 10s to 20s. These changes aim to make Respawn Tanks riskier when attempting larger comebacks and more difficult to use in rapid succession.
The first 5 shots after spinning up the Superite Laser now have no recoil, as suggested by Bloop on Discord. This makes it a more predictable burst weapon when fired in short bursts.
Respawn Tank icons now show on the map in duos and squads.
Loot now visually fades after a short delay when a player or placed banana is behind it. This helps prevent edge cases where certain emotes or Super Animal breeds let players hide too well in loot piles.
A new setting has been added to always show weapon skin effects, and it’s on by default. This lets everyone hear custom gun sounds like the Soil Revolver’s and see custom projectiles like the Cardinal Bow & Sparrow’s.
Reduced barrel explosion knockdown duration from 1.3 seconds to 1.2 seconds. Reduced the range of barrel explosions where knockdown occurs from 21 SAU to 16 SAU.
Increased movement tolerance slightly for picking up downed teammates.
Lightning effect brightness has been decreased by 50% and duration has been increased from 1.8s to 2 seconds.
Private matches can use /giant to spawn a Giant Sloth. Good luck.
Added /altars command for private matches to disable Banan Altars.
Social Hub Changes
New NPCs have been added at the Welcome Center and at the new meteorite site northeast of SAW Labs. New quest chains are available from these NPCs.
Fish will now bite much faster on your fishing line if you land your lure in front of their mouth. An effect and sound will play if you land an effective cast.
Added a 6th hamsterball racing track: Swampwater Breezeway.
Hamsterball racing start/finish lines now have the same glow and fade effect as checkpoints.
You can now choose all three of your tracked quests and toggle them on and off. We’ve also added a setting to toggle auto-tracking.
Pearls can now stack up to 20 in your inventory.
The Victory Island gardens have received a beautiful DNA-themed update with new flowers just in time for spring!
Added hit animations when smacking NPCs with your melee.
Added a radio in SAW Security that plays a song. Give it a listen if you’re paying the good dogs a visit!
Catfive now has looping music coming from his headphones.
Reduced some Super Dog and Beaver voice volumes.
Early tutorial dialogue has been tightened and trimmed.
Fixed several typos in various NPC and quest dialogue.
UI Changes
A coupon code screen has been added to BananOS, so you can redeem coupons while in-game in the Social Hub in addition to the main menu.
You can now see active hamsterball races on the map screen, and join them directly from the map!
Customize now defaults controller selection to the left category buttons, and backing out of the item grid goes back to the left buttons before exiting to the presets screen.
Charge-up weapons like the Bow & Sparrow will now show distance indicator dots similar to the BCG. There’s also a new setting available to disable these charge indicator dots if you prefer the regular recoil indicators. For controller users, disabling them will show the old static indicators instead.
Weapons that don't reload such as the Bow & Sparrow and X-Ray Cannon will now show a single ammo label on the UI. This makes it clear that they don't need to reload and fixes edge cases such as a “0” being displayed in the current ammo text.
Added hotkey icons for the middle mouse button, mouse 4, and mouse 5.
The keybinds screen now shows LMB, RMB, MMB, Mouse 4 and Mouse 5 (instead of the default text 'Mouse0,' etc).
The wait time on the ferry scene once the server connects has been reduced from 0.5 seconds to 0.25.
The BananOS challenges widget now displays progress as a whole number out of five (#/5), rather than a percentage.
Moved the "REMOVE FRIEND" button to the bottom of the player info card and colorized the text.
Direct messages received while in the main menu or ferry scene will display when you next join a hub or match.
Updated background art on player info cards with a prettier scene.
Updated "BACK TO HUB" on the end-game and in-match escape menus to "LEAVE MATCH".
Added a loading indicator and improved text clarity on the post-match respawn screen.
On the victory photo screen, the photo now remains displayed a bit longer after it’s taken to give you a chance to screenshot it. We’re planning to add a way to save these more easily in the future too!
If BananOS news is displaying a seasonal event, clicking it will take you to the event rather than to the news UI.
When reviving a teammate, you’ll now see the target player’s username in the interaction and reviving UI text.
A clearer, new popup now appears when editing a preset name in the Customize screen.
Fixed left side navigation buttons in BananOS shop not working correctly sometimes, and removed the dot indicators.
You can now scroll BananOS news with the mouse wheel.
Private matches: added true score column for '/getplayers' to give more accurate placement in team games.
Bug Fixes
Shooting gallery targets now have hitboxes that more closely resemble the player hitbox.
Improved memory usage and reduced memory pressure, especially for Switch users, by reusing world objects and large data structures between matches instead of recreating them each time.
Revised the JAG-7 reload sound to better match the actual reload time to avoid players cancelling it before it's done.
Fixed missing translations on Create Party and Exit Game UIs in the main menu.
Fixed some UI elements on the matchmaking pill blocking left-click for attack.
Fixed long breed names in the seasonal event UI not auto-sizing.
Dynamic font size is now used for the secondary Animal Pass title to fit longer text.
Fixed devices on the Umm al-Qura calendar causing BananOS to glitch out.
Fixed Research Lab entries under the cursor not being selected properly after using the mouse wheel to scroll. This fixes an issue with DNA magnets applying incorrectly.
Fixed weapon pickup text not using the proper pickup translation (mainly for Russian).
Fixed the Superite Bomb graphic when following the player in hamsterball races so it uses the correct design.
Fixed the player’s hamsterball racing placement always being 1st place in the "YOUR PARTY" results.
Improved an issue where melee weapons could poke through the SAW Shop’s left wall.
Fixed emote music muting match-ready music.
Fixed ambient music playing while in MTN station if a player misses readying up.
Fixed the back button not being clickable on the royale escape menu.
Credits video typo fix.
Private matches: fixed ghosted players not seeing admin messages like confirmations of commands.
Super Friends will keep trying to reconnect now rather than stopping after 3 attempts, with longer intervals each time.
Updated Photon SDK for Super Friends to the latest version, which fixes lag spikes caused by disconnecting from friends.
Fixed friend status not setting to "Online" when connecting to Super Friends after previously disconnecting.
Fixed rich text displaying in Super Friends' names.
Fixed being able to interact with objects while having the quick chat wheel open.
Fixed quick chat wheel not closing when opening the escape menu.
Fixed a bug where the map icons would be missing after finishing a race.
Fixed environment shadows showing slightly through characters.
Fixed teammate screen-edge markers not reverting to normal upon respawn.
Fixed the SAR logo not showing up in the photobooth for transparent GIFs.
Fixed Giant Sloth pathfinding occasionally being too wide and not being able to walk in some areas.
Fixed short-charged Bow & Sparrow shots not registering hits inside an emu's hitbox.
Fixed players being able to melee attack emus behind a wall in certain conditions.

Pearl Changes, Quest Adjustments, & Quality of Life Updates
Before our v2.1 Major Spring Update arrives, we wanted to ship a few targeted improvements alongside this event based on your feedback, mainly around quest difficulty and tracking.
Pearl quest drop rate adjustments
We’ve heard a lot of feedback about how long Gold and Black Pearls can take to obtain for their quests. Higher-tier pearls are still meant to be rare “flex” finds, but having quests for them made the grind feel more like a requirement than a long-term project.
Normal pearl drop rates are unchanged. However, while you have the matching pearl quest active, your first pearl for that quest has boosted odds from Giant Giant Clams:
Gold Pearl quest: first Gold Pearl is 2x as likely to drop.
Black Pearl quest: first Black Pearl is 4x as likely to drop.
They’ll still be rare, but this should feel more forgiving while you’re actively working on the quests.
For players who already completed them, we’ll be granting an additional 200 Carl Coins for the Gold Pearl quest and 2000 Carl Coins for the Black Pearl quest this week as a little recognition for completing them before this change.
The Purple Pearl quest now also awards 150 Carl Coins (up from 100).
Bonus: our composer Catbaux has released Louie’s version of the Crab Dance on YouTube!
Several quests are now tagged as "long-term" and won’t appear on the HUD unless you manually track them. They’ll also sit at the bottom of your Side Quests list.
Players working on Bwoking Dead quests that require playing as a Zombie Joe will now be prioritized to start the match as the Red Zombie Joe in The Bwoking Dead (space permitting).
We’ve also made a few difficulty tweaks to smooth out these quests:
Quest "Emusing Ourselves to Death" now works in any game mode.
Quest "Scout's Honor" changed from 3 to 1 flag capture.
Quest "Insistent Gifting" changed to 1 kill required.
Quest "The Gift That Keeps on Giving" changed to 1 infection.
Quest "The Straight and Sparrow Path" changed to "Course Combat Course", a quest about using any weapon in racing.
Quest "Chonky Tonk" now works in any game mode.
Quest "A Speedy Steed" changed to 5km.
Quest "War Horse" changed to 1 kill and now works in any game mode.
Quest "Eagle Scout" changed to 3 flag captures.
Quest "Zip-line Sting" now allows any type of zip-line.
More Improvements
Made some animation changes that should improve CPU performance, especially on Switch or lower-end PCs.
Donk has more sound effects now when idling/walking.
Lab Labs now have their own unique animations with clipboards and vials.
Added total animals unlocked count in the Research Lab.
MTN entrance interaction overrides player interaction.
Lowered Shotgun bullet spawn distance by 0.5 SAU (4 pixels) so it matches JAG-7 approximately.
Pearl and other item show off animations now play sound based on rarity, similar to fish & bugs.
Cardinal Bow & Sparrow effects are now visible to spectators.
Bug Fixes
Fixed typos in various NPC dialogues, along with updated translations. We’re still actively updating translations.
Fixed and polished several Hamster Ball race track lines.
Improved memory usage on several different screens.
NPC exclamation marks no longer update while off-screen, improving CPU usage.

Fixed matchmaking pill briefly showing 0 on the ready timer.
Fixed the position of squad members being too close in the victory photobooth (when it's 4 players).

Fixed a tent roof and loot spot in Murre Woods.
Fixed one of the roofs at Pixile Port.
Fixed a Sea Land jellyfish wall that had z-order issues.

Removed duplicate English subtitles for on-screen titles, and fixed a couple of broken subtitles.
Fixed the map biome hotkey working while typing in the map screen.
Fixed a bug where users in Australia and New Zealand had BananOS glitched. Sorry mates.

Hey Super Animals! Thank you for an incredible Super Animal World launch, and for all the feedback so far. It’s been a huge help as we plan what’s next, and it helped guide a lot of what we prioritized in the roadmap below.
We've also got a bit more context on what we’re focusing on first and why. Also: despite their size, we managed to sneak Super Elephants into the Research Lab this week. More on that later, but first let’s jump straight into what’s coming next to the island.
What’s Next for SAR
v2.0 was a massive lift for the team. It reshaped the game loop around the Social Hub, added story quests, and introduced new activities like fishing, bug catching, and hamsterball racing. Shipping all of that at once was a huge effort, but we didn’t want you waiting until 2026 to get your paws on it, so the team pushed hard to ship it by the end of the year.
The goal was to get a strong foundation in place and keep building on it this year. We wouldn’t call it “Early Access 2.0” because SAR is already a very mature game after 8 years of development, but for the Social Hub side of things, it’s the start of a new era of iteration. We’re getting back to regular quarterly seasonal updates, which means a faster feedback loop and more chances to polish and expand what v2.0 kicked off. We’re going to keep building on the Social Hub, but we’re also shifting more attention back to the battle royale and our other game modes, with improvements and polish across the board.
Everything in this roadmap is subject to change as we dig into building it all, but we wanted to give you a sense of our upcoming priorities and how we’re thinking about the next updates to SAR, while still keeping a few surprises up our super sleeves!
Year of the Super Horse
The Year of the Super Horse event kicks off next month with new Super Animals, challenges and cosmetics!
It’ll also include some smaller quality of life improvements, like tagging certain quests as “long-term” so they don’t clutter your HUD, tuning down a handful of quests that were a bit too difficult, and making Louie’s later pearl hunting quests more forgiving. We also spent some time cleaning up smaller stuff, like typos, a few hamsterball race track tweaks, and some behind-the-scenes optimizations that reduce memory usage (especially helpful on Switch).
Major Spring Update
This will be our first big update since Super Animal World, and we’re packing it with improvements based on your feedback. Now that v2.0 is live, we’ll be iterating faster with big seasonal updates throughout the year, starting with one early this spring.
You can look forward to highly requested UI upgrades like a search bar for cosmetics in Customize, faster and easier queuing (and re-queuing), and more polish across our newer screens and features. We’re also improving the Social Hub experience for groups, including making it easier to get onto the same server as your friends.
We’re shifting more focus back to the battle royale and our other core game modes too. We can’t share all the details just yet, but we’re actively working on it now, so keep the feedback coming. We’ve also heard you on match fullness, so we’re designing a Featured Mode system to encourage players to queue into specific modes (including Hamsterball Racing) at certain times, while still keeping your freedom to play what you want.
v2.2 & Beyond
Beyond the Major Spring Update, we’ve also been planning the rest of the year and have a few items we’re particularly excited about to share.
Museum of Super Natural History
You might have noticed the beaver construction site in the northwest of Murre Woods. The beavers are still hard at work, and later this year they’ll be unveiling a museum where you can view all the bugs you’ve caught. And yes, your fish will be getting a proper place to show off too. We’re also planning to keep expanding bug catching and fishing over time as we build out those systems and mechanics.
Surprise Indie Collabs
That’s right, we’ll be doing more collabs, and we already have a few lined up! We’re especially excited to team up with other indie studios and highlight games we love, like our collab with Snoozy Kazoo for the in-game Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion items (which will return once our new collab setup is ready).
If there’s an indie game or character you’d love to see in SAR, let us know. We can’t promise anything, but we’re always happy to reach out and see what we can make happen!
Competitive Support
Despite SAR’s cute combatants and terrible puns, a lot of you have gotten really, really good at this silly animal game over the years, and we love watching it. We’ve always loved seeing your skill on display in things like SAR Tonight’s Superest Kills segment. We want to do a better job supporting competitive play going forward, while still keeping SAR easy to pick up and welcoming.
We won’t try to turn SAR into an esport (unless Donk and Howl force us), and we’re definitely not done adding wacky stuff either. But we do think there’s room to better support competitive play without sanding down the chaos everywhere else, and we’ve got a few ideas we want to test later this year. We also want it to still feel like SAR even when things get intense and competitive: friendly, funny, and not too serious.
More Social Hub Activities
Now that the Social Hub is up and running, it’s time to keep expanding it and adding more things to do. We’ve got new activities and world events planned, along with more quest lines and NPCs to meet.
If there’s anything you’d like to see added, let us know! Except gambling. Gambling gets suggested a lot and we can’t do that.
Reddit AMA
We figured you’d have a lot of questions, so we’re hosting a Reddit AMA on r/animalroyale this Tuesday, January 20th at 5pm PT until 6pm PT!
Come ask us anything about Super Animal Royale, Super Animal World, Pixile Studios, or what’s next! We’ll do our best to answer as many as we can. :)
Pixile Plays Returns
And if you want another opportunity to hang out and ask questions, Pixile Plays is returning to Twitch next Thursday, January 22nd at 3pm PT! Join Kaity, Logan, and Michael as we play some games and chat with the community.
Make sure to follow our Twitch channel so you get a notification for when we’re live.

Bug Fixes
We also rolled out a number of bug fixes this week. Additional fixes are still on the way for Nintendo Switch, so thanks for your patience. And thanks as well for all your reports! They’ve been a huge help in tracking down some of the issues that were harder to spot until servers were live and busy.

Quests that end with a cutscene will now play the video even if the player cancels out of the dialogue early before getting to it.
Reduced cases of “Matchmaking request timed out” errors.
Players can now use the matchmake accept hotkey while fishing and during item show-off (accepting is no longer blocked).
Fixed the BananOS character animation playing while fishing.
Fixed a bug where the matchmaking queue wouldn’t reset for other party members if the party leader disconnected.
Hit animation now plays for victims of the tundra monster.
Fixed tracked quest UI not updating progress.
Fixed Bug Spray melee missing a swing sound.

Keep up to date on what’s happening on the island by following us on:
Before we sign off for the holidays, we wanted to express one more extra-big thank you to all of you. Super Animal World is the single biggest project we’ve ever attempted, and these past few weeks have been a whirlwind, so it’s meant a lot to see so many of you showing up with your friends to play and enjoy it.
We’re going to take some much-needed time to rest and recharge, and then come back ready to keep polishing, improving, and building on this new foundation for the game. We’re also really looking forward to getting back into a steady rhythm of quarterly major updates so we can move faster and keep expanding SAW in meaningful ways.
Once we’re back and have had a chance to digest all your feedback, we’ll share a clearer look at what we’re focusing on next, along with a few of our biggest takeaways from launch.
Until then, we hope you all enjoy the holidays and have fun on the island, whether questing, exploring, or battling. Merry CRISPRmas and Happy New Year, Super Animals!
Super Animal World celebrated its grand opening last week, and we can’t thank you enough for making it such a special launch. It’s been awesome seeing everyone step into SAW for the first time, and we’re excited to keep iterating and building on it with you. In less than a week,

In less than a week, you’ve already chatted with NPCs over 10 million times, completed over 2 million quests, and even kept us trending on SteamDB right up until The Game Awards. Seriously, thank you. If you think any of your favorite content creators might like Super Animal World, it would mean a lot if you told them about it to help keep the momentum going!
If you missed the full Super Animal World patch notes (including CRISPRmas week 1), you can catch up on them here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/843380/view/622187705533466306
Meanwhile, the team’s been busy fixing bugs and keeping servers stable (and occasionally popping in-game to say hi), so this update comes with a big batch of fixes alongside this week’s CRISPRmas goodies.
CRISPRmas Week 2
Santa Claws is still in town (find him on the left side of the Welcome Center) and CRISPRmas is getting closer! Week 2 brings a new set of event challenges and rewards, plus a brand new Super Animal breed.
If the climb to the top of the food chain was a literal climb, the Super Mountain Goat would have everyone beat. You can find it in the Research Lab as a permanent new addition!
In case you missed them during launch week, Ms. Macawsome and her many clones have been hard at work stocking new releases in the SAW Shop!
Thank you to everyone who has supported the game with DLC or cosmetic purchases. Your support is what lets our small team keep building and updating the game year after year.
To check out the new items, talk to Ms. Macawsome (or Carl) at any of her locations around the island, or pull up the shop in BananOS. The items are available now in a featured row, and will enter regular rotation when their time’s up:
Crying emote
Neck Mittens
Snowman Hat
Sushi Gravestone
Hazmat Suit
Vintage Bug Spray Melee
Ms. Macawsome has also managed to put together the sweet and festive Candy Cane Bundle for your weapons! Guaranteed to have been licked by Carl no more than three times.
Here’s what the bundle includes:
Candy Cane Bow & Sparrow
Candy Cane M16
Candy Cane Silenced Pistol

It’s finally here: Super Animal World, the massive free expansion to Super Animal Royale that turns the time between matches into a living world!
This has been the largest and most ambitious project our small team has taken on since SAR first launched in Early Access. After more than two years of work building an entirely new foundation for the game, we couldn’t be more excited to get it into your paws!
So what does Super Animal World include, and what comes next for SAR as a whole? Let’s start with what Super Animal World actually is.
What is Super Animal World?
Super Animal World is a reimagining of Super Animal Royale that turns the island into a relaxing space to make friends and enjoy cozy activities, all while you're queuing up to fight your new friends to the death.
We call this new loop the Circle of Super Life. You explore the new Social Hub, chat with characters, accept quests, and then matchmake straight into Super Animal Royale or our other competitive modes. When you die (or do the winner dance), you respawn back in the Hub to regroup, claim rewards, and head out again for your next battle.
The Social Hub was inspired by how wholesome and friendly this community has been over the years, and we wanted to create a larger space to support that. We’ve designed Super Animal World to make life between matches feel just as engaging as the battles themselves, with activities like fishing, bug catching, hamsterball racing, and more. In the sections below, we’ll walk through those new activities as well as BananOS, the new quest system, and everything else packed into the expansion.
Super Hamsters, Chinchillas, Emus
To celebrate the launch of Super Animal World, a whole trio of new Super Animal species has arrived in the Research Lab: Super Hamsters, Super Emus, and Super Chinchillas, each with their own set of breeds to unlock.
Super Hamsters can finally claim their hamsterballs, Super Emus get to join the royale as full combatants instead of just noble steeds, and Super Chinchillas are here by popular demand, ready for their chance to scurry to the top of the food chain.
Super Hamster Breeds (Available at Level 20)
Super Hamster
Super Blonde Hamster
Super White Hamster
Super Red Hamster
Super Emu Breeds (Available at Level 30)
Super Emu
Super Chonk Emu
Super Speedy Emu
Super Battle Emu
Super Chinchilla Breeds (Available at Level 50)
Super Chinchilla
Super White Chinchilla
Super Black Chinchilla
Grand Opening Pass
To celebrate Super Animal World’s release, Ms. Macawsome’s got a new Animal Pass for you: The Grand Opening Pass! This one’s all about the newest activities on the island, so there’s bound to be something for everyone (as long as you like fishing, bug catching, or racing hamsterballs).
We’re also really excited to debut the new Mini Emu pet in this pass! It may be too short to ride, but it makes emus the first species to exist as a complete set of Giant Animal, Super Animal, and Mini Animal.
During this season, the Grand Opening Pass is available for a discounted price of 550 SAW Tickets.
As always, Animal Passes never expire, so you can continue working on passes you own from previous seasons on your second track, or purchase previous ones from The Archive for 750 SAW Tickets.
Grand Opening Starter Pack
Feeling daring? The Grand Opening Starter Pack features a star-studded set of flashy daredevil cosmetics and the Super Stuntman Hamster! It’s the perfect look to rock while outspeeding the competition out on the raceways, just watch out for flights of stairs. Or don’t.
600 SAW Tickets (enough to pick up the new Animal Pass or put toward items in the SAW Shop!)
Buying this Starter Pack will also unlock the base Super Hamster early, as a small bonus. This is the first time we’ve offered a non-starter Super Animal in a Starter Pack and we’d love to hear what you think!
SAW is Finally Here? It’s a CRISPRmas Miracle!
CRISPRmas is here! Candy canes have once again been scattered across the island to collect, and the first week’s challenges and rewards are ready to be unwrapped.
Be sure to head on over to the SAW Welcome Center in the Social Hub and have a chat with Santa Claws himself, in the fur! He’ll be around throughout the entire event, to meet all the nice (or naughty) Super Animals on the island.
Keep an eye out for candy canes during your matches. Eating them grants a small heal and helps you progress some of your weekly challenges. Smashing snowmen (snow animals?) around Thomas’s Tundra will score you even more candy canes, and you’ll also earn them just for completing matches!
5 challenge rewards to earn
Red Elf Hat | Collect Candy Canes (1000)
1500 XP | Smash Snowmen (5)
Red Elf Outfit | Land on Ice
750 Carl Coins | Chop Snow Grass (125)
Gingerbread Sword | Get Kills (12)
New Super Animal breed
Super Sock Monkey (Available at Level 20)
Week 2 and 3 CRISPRmas challenges and Super Animal breeds arrive on Tuesday, December 16th and Tuesday, December 23rd.
Social Hub Activities
Looking for an itinerary of things to do in Super Animal World? Here are some of the new activities you’ll unlock in the Social Hub as you progress along the Main Quest.
Fishing
Believe it or not, there are fish out there that don’t stand on two legs! Once you get a fishing rod, you can catch some of these so-called “water fish” in just about any body of, well, water. You can catch different fish depending on where you cast your line, so to complete the Museum of Super Natural History collection you’ll need to angle all around the island.
Bug Catching
Whether they’re skittering or buzzing or fluttering about, dozens of bug varieties call the island home, too! With a bug net, you can catch them to add to the museum’s collection (and never snack on, as tempting as it might be for some Super Animals). Just like fish, different bugs can be caught in different locales, so be sure to search every nook and cranny on the island.
Hamsterball Racing
Dash, drift, and dodge your way through the island’s six hamsterball racing tracks! BananOS augmented reality turns stretches of the island’s existing landscape into exhilarating raceways to challenge your friends on, complete with dash pads, items to give yourself an edge, and all the spherical mayhem you could want.
The Island’s Inhabitants
The island’s never felt more alive, thanks to the massive new Quest System that’s been added, with tons of characters to chat with including familiar faces from our SAR Tonight animated series and plenty of debuting critters too! Every corner of the island has friendly (or not-so-friendly) faces to meet, many of whom will give you quests and rewards every day you return. Be sure to say hello to any and all Super Animals you meet out there while exploring. You never know who might need your help, or what you might get in return if you lend a hand. Or… paw. Or wing, or fin!
All in all, there are 350+ quests to complete and over 100 characters to chat with (200+ when including ambient NPCs, who all have unique dialogue). There’s a full novel’s worth of story here, with over 140,000 words of dialogue in total. For context, that’s roughly 1.5x longer than The Hobbit and about 4.7x longer than Animal Farm. It was a huge undertaking to add this many questlines to the game, and it’ll be an undertaking in its own right if you want to experience them all, so expect it to take multiple days if you’re dedicated enough to complete every quest.
Please be respectful of spoilers for everyone! There’s a lot of story reveals and new lore tidbits in this novel-length addition to the game, so if you’d like to discuss these things with others, we encourage you to check out our #lore-discussion channel in our Discord server.
We’re super excited to see everyone’s reactions to these additions! Super Animal World is a vibrant place with all sorts of colorful and often chaotic critters, and we hope getting to talk with them and help them out will be a fun way to enjoy the Social Hub and challenge yourselves.
BananOS
Seven years after its original Early Access release, Super Animal Royale has received a nearly top-to-bottom UI overhaul. At the heart of that overhaul is BananOS, a new augmented reality operating system that every Super Animal now runs as a brain-to-eye interface (...whether they opted into the install or not).
The big question we asked ourselves that led to BananOS and the new Social Hub was: what if instead of returning to a menu between matches, you can access everything you need while staying in-world the whole time?
BananOS overlays an AR interface onto every Super Animal’s vision so they can access apps, notifications, and matchmaking from anywhere in the Social Hub. Other systems that used to live in menus have also been brought in-world to physical locations, like MTN Stations where you can access customization and the Research Lab, and Photo Booths for snapping commemorative pics while you explore the island.
You can also use BananOS to queue up for any game mode straight from the Social Hub, and keep fishing, questing, or socializing while you wait for matchmaking.
Alongside Super Animal Royale, S.A.W. vs Rebellion and The Bwoking Dead are now permanently available to queue for instead of rotating weekly. Now that waiting for your next match is a whole game itself, we felt it was time to make these additional modes permanent, and we plan to keep evolving them and adding new competitive modes you can access right from the Hub.
For the first time, BananOS also introduces an in-game cross-platform friends list. You can add players you meet while you play, no matter what system they’re on, and that list lives alongside your Steam or console friends while staying shared across all platforms. Grouping up from BananOS’s Social tab is simple too, especially now that console players can use text chat in-game.
This is just the first version of BananOS and we already have new features planned, so we’d love to hear your feedback as you use it and see where you’d like it to go next. The best way to learn BananOS is to get your paws on it, so give it a try while you’re exploring the island.
And Everything Else!
We’ve also implemented tons of other changes that aren’t directly tied to the Social Hub itself. There’s more than two years worth of additions and quality of life improvements in this expansion, too many to list entirely here, but here are a few highlights:
Respawn Tanks
By popular request, Duos and Squads modes in Super Animal Royale now feature Respawn Tanks where you can revive fallen teammates, as long as you pick up their respawn vials first. You can finally bring a dead teammate back into the fight, or at least a new clone of them. Rejoice!
Intense Weather
The island’s weather patterns have gotten a bit superer! Stormy weather can occur at random, with new visual and audio effects to match. Be careful heading to the Tundra during these storms, since it also means there’s a blizzard in the snowy northern sections of the map.
Other Additions and Changes
There’s a lot more packed into this expansion so we can’t cover every single detail, but here are some final highlights from the changelist before this post itself becomes novel-length:
Competitive Modes
Emus can peck ammo, juice, tape, and throwables to loot them for their rider, making looting on the go much smoother.
Carl Coins rewarded per minute survived in Super Animal Royale have been increased from 5 to 7.2.
Explosive barrels have a new knock down animation for both competitive modes and Social Hub. In competitive modes this acts as a stun, even if the player has only lost part of their health.
The first Skunk Gas circle now takes longer to close, giving you more time for early-game looting and reducing the chance of being rushed or caught by the first circle.
Skunk Gas visuals have been adjusted so it’s easier to see the environment while you’re inside the gas.
A confirmation sound now plays when armor taping finishes successfully.
Fixed several spots where throwables would bounce incorrectly or through walls (such as around the Giant Emu pen and small research lab buildings).
Existing NPCs in the royale are now client-side, so each player can complete related milestones if they find them in a match.
Zombie Joe bots and The Bwoking Dead have seen several improvements: bot melee range and attack speed have been slightly reduced, bot melee now breaks crates and other objects, the last survivor in Bwoking Dead now sees kill notifications correctly, and a rare issue where the on-screen kill notification would show 0 kills has been fixed.
Reworked the SvR “Top Players” showcase to consider multiple stats for players (while still only picking someone once), fixing cases where someone qualified for a stat but wouldn’t get featured.
Private match hosts have a suite of new tools, including commands to teleport (/tele), toggle the kill feed (/killfeed), spawn Lucky Cat Mines (/mine), spawn Skunk Bombs (/skunk), and enable or disable Respawn Tanks (/tanks).
Added keybind for private match admin leaderboard.
World & Social Hub
New Points of Interest: Hamsterball Stadium, Victory Island, and new details around the island including waterways and waterfalls. (Note: Victory Island is only accessible when exploring the Social Hub, and getting there will be up to you!)
Be sure to check out the exclusive shops at Victory Island and Mini Ranch for special items only found there!
SMoMA’s art collection has been updated with new works from the latest fanart contest.
New cinematics to see and photos to collect through the main questlines.
Tons of new music, including ambient location-sensitive tracks and new music when joining a lobby for a Super Animal Royale match.
New trails and boost visual effects for hamsterballs to make races feel even more satisfying.
Rebel Caches can now also be found around the Social Hub, awarding Carl Coins and with a rare chance to drop a cosmetic from the level-up item pool. An old bug in BR where they could not be opened after eating a mushroom or coconut has also been fixed.
Blue mushrooms have new run animation while you’re boosted. Their speed cap has been adjusted to +24s and they can be found and used in both competitive modes and Social Hub.
Giant Giant Clams can be opened in the Social Hub for a chance at pearls of different colors/rarities, which can be sold for Carl Coins and used in certain quests.
Carl Coins have a small chance to drop when cutting grass or breaking crates in the Social Hub.
Earporium has been renovated to become the new flagship SAW Shop location and MTN Station at the Welcome Center. Other areas around the island have also been renovated to make way for MTN Stations.
Added a squishable fly to the SAW side starting screen in SvR.
Systems & Quality of Life
You can now undo DNA Magnet choices at the MTN Station Research Lab if you change your mind about which Super Animal to target.
The game's HUD and notifications have been updated, including a larger minimap, improved text styling, and notifications moving to the right side of the screen.
Chat now supports Direct Messages. You can send DMs to a friend from their profile and use “/r” in the chat window to quickly reply to the last direct message you received.
All consoles now support text chat (via the Select button).
New emote wheel and quick chat design.
New dialogue/chat font for improved legibility and character support.
A Master Volume setting has been added to control all game audio at once, and more music (like SMoMA and Aquarium ambience) now respects the Music Volume slider.
Thanks to the new modular settings menu design, new settings have been added, including VFX quality and the ability to hide your armor locally. Existing options like “Toggle Recoil Indicators” and the old “/hidenames” chat command have also been moved into the settings menu. We plan to add more highly requested settings in the future so let us know what you want to see!
Various load-time optimizations have been made, including preloading more animations and speeding up map loading when joining servers.
Fixed a bug where ping-based hamsterball extrapolation of other players was not working correctly, improving how accurate the position of other players’ hamsterballs will look on your screen.
Social hubs restart daily at 10am Pacific Time, with matchmaking reopening shortly after. Server downtime will be 1-2min or less.
Weekly Challenges now refresh on Tuesdays at 10 am Pacific instead of Mondays to sync everything up to the same time.

What's Next
Super Animal World is meant to give Super Animal Royale a whole new foundation to build on for years to come, and now that the pieces are in place, we can't wait to get back to regular Major Updates that continue building on it.
So what happens after launch? Here are a few of the things we’ll be focusing on that you can expect to hear more about in the new year:
We’ll be returning to seasonal Major Updates, released roughly every quarter, with smaller event updates in between. Those larger updates will keep adding new content, building on the seeds we’ve planted with this expansion, smoothing out rough edges and fixing bugs.
For upcoming Major Updates, we’re already looking at quality of life improvements like Inventory Search for the Customize screen, and upgrades to the new BananOS cross-platform friends list.
You’ll probably also notice a museum currently being built by the hard-working Super Construction Beavers on the northeast side of Murre Woods. Your hard work for the Museum of Super Natural History directly supports filling its halls with an impressive collection when it opens its doors.
Beyond the Social Hub, we plan to continue updating the game’s core modes (like The Bwoking Dead) and will return to exploring new modes to add in 2026.
There is a lot more planned than we can list here, so if we haven't mentioned your most desired feature yet, please keep letting us know what you would like to see next in Discord, on our socials below, or here on Steam.
Before all this, the team will be taking a very hard-earned break to relax and recover over the holidays. We've put a ton of effort and love into Super Animal World and it has been a big undertaking, but we cannot wait to see how you enjoy this new way of playing and what feedback you'll share to help us make it even better.
As always, if you want to know what’s next for Super Animal World and the game as a whole, please subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on:
Once again, thank you so much for playing and supporting Super Animal Royale and our small indie team. We hope you enjoy Super Animal World, exploring everything this expansion adds and everything you bring to it when you step into the Social Hub. See you on the island, Super Animals!
