We’re excited to share the release date for the next entry in the Circle Empires series. Since revealing the sequel in November 2024, we’ve been working to build on what made the original games special, with community feedback guiding many of the decisions along the way.

Through demos and playtests, we’ve refined the look and feel of Circle Empires 2 to better capture the spirit of the series while still pushing it forward. The result is a sequel that stays true to fast-paced circle conquest, while offering more freedom in how you play.

Whether you’re coming back after many hours with the original games or revisiting the circles for the first time in a while, we’re looking forward to welcoming you on February 9th.

We’re ecstatic to be a part of Steam's Real-Time Strategy Fest, along with a wealth of other amazing RTS games!
Real-Time Strategy games have been around since the early 1990s and we’re honoured to be listed among, and to have played around with, this diverse genre with the Circle Empires series. With Circle Empires 2 on the horizon, we thought it’d be a fun idea to dive into a few RTS games from the past & present that have been a huge inspiration for the Circle Empires series.
Here’s Mikhel Trei, developer at Luminous, on some of his personal favourites:
My favourite RTS games are Warcraft 3, Age of Empires 1 & 2, Total Annihilation, and Command & Conquer: Red Alert.
To me, Warcraft 3 has the best 4-player Free For All mode in any RTS. What makes it so good for me, is the fact that it is reliant on heroes, who gain power by fighting. This provides a unique incentive to engage in battles during Free For All games, which otherwise reward passive play and result in stale games when players play correctly.
Age of Empires 1 and 2 are what I grew up with. I've probably played through AOE1’s Rise of Rome expansion demo campaign a thousand times as a kid, because I didn't have the full version of the game. Age of Empires 2 places you in this incredibly engaging fantasy of being a medieval king and I used to play the 1v7 single-player mode quite a lot.
Total Annihilation is one of the first RTS I ever came across. I remember seeing it at a friend's place and being mesmerised. It has a fantastic unit command system, great 3D spacial physics, a wide array of units and so much more. It did require a beefy computer for its time and it's overall a bit less intuitive than other, non-SciFi RTSs (Just because you're in the future and don't have horses and men with sharp sticks that are self-explanatory). But like.. sea planes that can land underwater and flying builders that create cannons that shoot on the other side of map… This game is just great.
I feel like for Red Alert, all I need to say is: mass teslacoils and air strikes.

Since these are all big titles, I feel like I should mention a few games that, in my opinion, should get more recognition.:

Knights and Merchants had a really cool economy system. Fans made a complete rebuild of the game called KamRemake.
Beasts and Pumpkins had a cool live economy where people would be born and get old, eat bread, fight each other when they're in bad mood and fight giant bees by throwing rocks over a fence.

Reading all of your enthusiasm about Circle Empires 2 is such a huge motivator. We’ll be hard at work, creating a worthy new entry in the series that you all know and love. After the announcement, some of you had some burning questions about the new look and features of the game. That’s why we’ve put together a post-announcement FAQ blog on the CE2 store page.
If you have any other questions that we haven’t tackled in the blog, you can always ask them in the comment section or on the Iceberg Interactive Discord.

Circle Empires 2 keeps the fast-paced, accessible RTS gameplay you know and love, but adds new units, weapons, and terrain effects to keep things fresh. We’ve maintained the signature simplicity while adding more depth and strategy for both new and veteran players. We’re also adding a mounting system, which lets units ride larger creatures. (Yes, you can put a Necromancer on a Dragon…)
As we continue to work on the game, we’ll be looking for playtesters to help us fine-tune the experience. By wishlisting Circle Empires 2, you’ll make sure to not miss out on your chance to play early and help shape the game before it launches.
Get ready to circle back into action—this time with even more ways to conquer and strategise!

Circle Empires Tactics will offer a fresh spin on the Circle Empires series you know and love. CE Tactics is a simultaneous turn-based strategy game in which you will have to predict your opponent's moves, plan your own moves to counter them, then end the turn and watch the chaos unfold.
Features

Play three story-based single-player campaigns focused on Circle Empires’ ruling factions and uncover a gripping story where not everything is as it seems.
Level up your leader and gain new skills allowing you to implement different strategies throughout the campaign
Play with your friends in multiplayer co-op or challenge them for a game in PvP mode
Each faction has a variety of units and creatures, all with their own special abilities and traits, offering a dynamic playstyle and making every battle unique.
Choose the difficulty level that fits your experience (or ego), ranging from a new recruit to being a descendant of Sun Tzu. Circle Empires Tactics offers a wide range of difficulty levels for both single-player and co-op.

It has been a while! We've made a few QoL improvements for your empire-conquering pleasure. Cloud saves are here, so if you play Circle Empires from multiple machines, you're now able to carry over your progress.
Changes

Added cloud save for save-games and unlocked things.
Treasury maximum size lowered to reduce lag in Treasury view.
Fixed a memory leak that affects very long games.
NOTE:
All unlocked content remains unlocked. The save-game directory has changed. If you want to use old save-games, please copy them from the old location to new location. Old location is:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Circle Empires\Circle Empires\Saves
New location is:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Circle Empires\Circle Empires\cloud\Saves

Today is the day we have all been anticipating! No more beta testing and other shenanigans, Circle Empire Rivals is out on Steam in its full glory! Gather your friends, build your armies, and take the circles that are rightfully yours in this fast paced RTS.
What's new in Circle Empires Rivals?
Well the most requested feature, multiplayer, is now here! Play with your friends in co-op, or face them as bitter rivals in PvP across multiple game modes.
But that's not all! Here's just a few features you can expect in Circle Empires Rivals:

20 different circle biomes, from dry deserts to scary swamps!
Over 300+ units, buildings, and level-ups!
30 Faction leaders, each with unique bonuses or special troops!
A huge range of difficulty options, and advanced settings to tweak everything to your liking!
6 different game modes, including ones unique to the RTS genre -- like the Roguelike and Stop the Army modes!
Units and structures keep gaining stats even after hitting their 'max' level, all the way up to bonus level 99! Turn your wizard into an army-destroying archwizard with a new look to boot.

With Halloween creeping round the corner, what suits Spooktober better than a new magical update to the kingdom of Circle Empires? As you might have guessed from the title, this update features magic in various shapes and forms - such as a new magical creatures and a magical forest to discover, as well as upgrades and achievements to unlock.
In Circle Empires today, you'll see:

School of Magic - including an enemy spawner that spawns hostile healers, pumpkin necromancers and necromancer apprentices! Who said pumpkins are only for Halloween?
Masonry - Upgrade your buildings and walls, and make them much more durable.
Elf archer - Start planning your Halloween costume because this update introduces a highly skilled elven warrior equipped with a bow! This impressive creature has a very high attack speed and can cause a lot of damage, but is also quite flimsy. It can be recruited by Swift the Scavanger Lord and also by Darius the Druid in the Apex Monsters DLC. The elf archer can also appear in forest biomes and can be spawned by hostile Archery Ranges.
New biome variation - Elven autumn forest. Nothing beats a crisp autumn morning and meeting an elven on your walk through the woods. It's simply nature at its finest!
This update also adds 8 wicked achievements to add to your list. Grab your wands and wizards, and get ready to fight!
