Hi everyone!
It's been 3 years since the initial release of Eastshade. Time has flown! We've been toiling away on something entirely new. We present Songs of Glimmerwick! A story-driven witch academy RPG where magic is cast through music. Check it out! And please wishlist it if you dig it!

The game looks different from anything we've done (perhaps different than any game I've ever seen period?), which is hugely exciting! Despite its different appearances, I think people will feel our distinct life force in the game, particularly in our commitment to building a sense of place, explored through non-combat mechanics, which is the mission statement for our studio after all! We are so excited to be able to talk about it.

Put the 9mm down, for crying out loud. Not every game is about shooting your enemies in the shin bones. Honestly. Give me that, here, take this trowel. Now, follow me, through this tranquil landscape of blooming daffodils and perfectly arranged stone paths covered in happy moss. Yes, that s it, you want a turn around the garden. A bit of soil on your fingers. And there’s more where this came from. Here you go, 8 peaceful gardens in which to calm your trigger-happy soul. Breathe it in, shooter. Breathe it in.

Overthinking Games runs every other Monday, and is an opportunity for Malindy Hetfeld to take something about a game and think about it too much. This time she’s asking how Eastshade got to be so darned pretty.
The first I ever saw of Eastshade was a single screenshot. In it, the sun stands high in the sky over a glittering river. Off in the distance, past the forest and its imposing trees, you can see what looks to be a city. Eastshade is full of such carefully designed landscapes: forests that invite you to saunter through them; buildings you just want to take a closer look at. Eastshade is a first person exploration game where every landscape looks like a potential work of art because that s the game. Whenever you feel like it you can pop down your easel and start painting. How does everything look this nice? How to explain that almost everyone you talk to is equally impressed by what they see?
Instead of busily overthinking what makes me react so strongly to what I see on screen in Eastshade, I decide to enlist a professional and pose my questions to Eastshade s lead developer Danny Weinbaum. He explains Eastshade s strong sense of place is deliberate, and the result of the difference between traditional game design, and his own point of view as someone with a background in environment design.

Howdy all!
We have been working on an update that:
A. Greatly reduces the lag when entering new areas
B. Fixes the crash that can occur during sleeping or entering a new area
These issues have required some foundational refactoring to fix, and we've had to replace some graphics related systems. So given the size of this change, I am first pushing the update to a beta branch. We'd be extremely appreciative if you try it out and let us know how it goes! You can leave us your feedback either through the forums, bug reporter, [email protected], or our discord.
To play the beta build, you have to right click on the game in your steam library and go to the "Betas" tab, and select "beta" from the dropdown.

Alice is on holiday, so this week it’s me, Alice, filling in for Alice. We’re deep in the trenches now, the game trenches, the February onslaught of releases. Metro is only just in our rear view mirror, and Brendan is almost a broken man. Anthem is in its bizarre week of early release for people who’ll pay for EA’s special version of Origins. Apelegs is taking the Battles Royales by storm. There is too much to do, so I might not remind people to send me what they’re playing, just so I don’t have to put it in this document, because I am busy playing some of the games that we have to play. I know, what a ridiculous thing to moan about, hey?
What are you playing this weekend? Here’s what we’re clicking on!

Hey everyone! The launch has been hectic, and we're a little overwhelmed, but we are elated to see so many people enjoying the game! It warms our hearts to read about people's wonderful experiences getting immersed in the land of Eastshade :).
We're grateful for everyone reporting bugs, and we're working very hard to continue to improve the game! We understand that performance can be spotty at times with certain hardware, and indeed, scene loading causes a hitch on pretty much all hardware. We care deeply about performance (you wouldn't believe how much work goes into getting it as optimized as it currently is!) and improving this is very high priority for us and we will continue to optimize!
A few of you have encountered quest bugs, saving/loading bugs, and progress impeding bugs, and those are even higher priority for the moment. Today is the first of many patches!
version 1.04
-fixed save locking from entering gazebo without talking to Nika
-fixed bird kid sequence happening while player is freezing
-fixed missing characters in Chinese fonts
-fixed missing VO line from pilot
-fixed woodworker's/bicycle sellers double "No thanks" choices
-removed the dark branch of the Architect quest
-potential fix for save locking when getting punched by Ehsan
-fixed a missing string in the paint over menu
-fixed the ability to use the '@' character in the bug reporter
-fixed issue where russian subtitles get smaller and smaller
Finally, Mac and Linux are planned, but first we want to fix the biggest of our bugs, and do some optimization.
Thanks so much everyone for taking a chance on our weird indie game! And making our release amazing!
