For all you Achievement junkies out there, we know this update will be right up your alley.
After hearing some feedback from players who just couldn't seem to collect certain Achievements, we were able to hunt down a small number of bugs that were preventing those Achievements from unlocking properly.
Those bugs have since been squashed, which means that once you have the latest update, all Steam Achievements for Evasion will be fully unlockable! (If your PSVR buddies ask, we also fixed this issue for PlayStation Trophies.)
The full list of fixes in this latest update are below. Happy Achievement hunting, everyone!
Update Notes
Fixed bug causing the “Friendly Fire” Trophy / Achievement to not unlock
Fixed bug causing the “The Doctor Is In” Trophy / Achievement to not unlock
Fixed bug causing enemies killed by Surge Attacks to not count towards Trophy / Achievement unlock criteria
Fixed the “Twofer” Trophy / Achievement details to include previously missing text

The holidays have come early to Evasion, and we're happy to bring some of the highly requested features for the community and new recruits. Last month we addressed those sore trigger fingers by adding some light auto-fire functionality to the player weapons, and we have more in store starting today.
INTRODUCING DIFFICULTY SETTINGS
While we were excited to hear that Evasion was accessible to all skill levels, we know there were some members of the Vanguard that wanted to take on a new challenge, and some players that wanted options that best fit their skill level.
We've got you covered.
BULLET-BREEZE In the easiest mode the enemy shots deal less damage to the players. This is a pretty forgiving difficulty and is suitable for a brand new player. Some caution is required however, as a reckless player can still be overwhelmed.
BULLET-HECK This is a fairly challenging fight. Enemy shots are fired with better accuracy and deal full damage. A skilled player will excel.
BULLET-HELL As the toughest mode, Bullet-Hell requires players to use every ounce of skill they can muster to survive. Enemies lead their shots to hit players that are moving around, and deal extra damage with every hit. Players need to be careful, keep their shields up, and use more cover.
WHAT ELSE IS NEW IN PATCH 1.03
- Added two new achievements to unlock in Bullet-Hell difficulty - Some gameplay improvements to the Megatoma and Skimmer behaviors - Mission tuning to support the new difficulty settings - Some improvements to how enemies react to player tethers - Increased the Engineer damage - Engineer can now do a quick flick and release with the Tether Lash to finish the enemy - Improved the Surgeon self-heal feature when killing an enemy with the Tether Lash - Fixed an issue that sometimes prevented achievement progress from being saved (unfortunately any unsaved progress can not be recovered) - General bug fixing and polishing

My favorite moment in Evasion came when I was crouched on the floor, my body curled up into as small a target as I could make myself. No HP to spare. A single hit from the drones flying above me and I was toast, but I was so close to finishing this lengthy stand-off, blowing up a couple generators, and completing my mission. Just a few more waves of robotic enemies to shoot down, and I'd be clear. A crate to my right blocked fire from a couple more robots on the ground, who weren't an immediate threat like the ones buzzing overhead. That "oh shit" adrenaline pumped through me as I held my left hand out in front. That was my shield hand, and crouched down as I was, I could stop just about any projectile from hitting me if I paid attention. I was paying very close attention.
Holding my right hand out at an awkward angle around my shield, I took potshots at the drones, tracking their flight patterns and firing my pistol erratically, more focused on blocking the shots that came towards my head. My "I'm going to die" nerves started to turn into "Am I actually going to pull this off?" nerves, which aren't much better. Then what I was hoping for happened: I landed a blast on one of the drones and it vaporized, leaving behind a floating green blob. I squeezed the Oculus Touch controller's grip button to tether the healing orb out of the air and pull it towards me. It splashed down onto the ground, creating a shimmering healing circle right at my feet. In a few seconds I was back to full health, and out of danger. My heart stopped pounding by the time I took out the last few drones.
As VR shooters go, Evasion doesn't look or feel too different from plenty of others. Pointing and aiming with motion controllers is probably VR's purest videogame interaction, but when the guns feel good to fire, that simplicity is not a problem. Evasion has those basics down pat, but what's impressive about it is how much fun I had by myself, when the real draw of the game is being able to play co-op.
Evasion has a proper campaign with missions that can be played solo or with a friend (or stranger) online. While I wouldn't have had that near-death experience with a friend at my side, I'd have something even better: the ability to work together and heal my partner if they went down. And that's likely to happen, since Evasion ramps up the difficulty for two players.
Instead of littering a variety of guns around its levels, Evasion lets you choose between four classes, which all have unique weapons and abilities. Each has a gun and a shield, and the shield hand doubles as a secondary ability.
I played as the Engineer, and could charge up my gun for more powerful shots. Against fast flying enemies, those hits were hard to land, so I mostly stuck to the rapid-fire and used the charge shot against the robotic enemies that came at me on foot. I especially enjoyed my secondary ability, which let me tether onto weakened enemies with an energy and send them flying. I got into a nice rhythm of shooting at one enemy while whip-spiking another into the ground.
All the classes also have interplay with other players, which I didn't get to experience. The engineer can buff someone else by tethering onto them, TF2-style. The tanky Warden offers a defense buff, while the Surgeon specializes in healing. Evasion was already complex enough to sustain my interest playing solo, but balancing attack and teamwork sounds even better.
I tend to get motion sick after awhile playing VR games that have you move with a joystick, but I didn't have any trouble with Evasion. It does offer some heavily configurable movement options, though, including a stuttery jump forward motion meant to help those that get queasy.
Based on the first level of Evasion, it's a game I'd happily co-op my way through with a friend, and stick around with long enough to try out all four classes in its Horde mode against waves of bots. Unless the story takes some surprise twists after the first level, it's not going to be much of a draw—you're essentially space marines on a colony planet, there are a bunch of robots to shoot, get to it—but it's still nice to have a campaign, with levels to work your way through and objectives to complete. The opening mission was light on those, so hopefully later in the campaign it digs deeper than standing on a plate to disable a generator's shield, then blasting it to oblivion.
Even with simple missions, the classes feel good enough solo, and gain enough depth in co-op, that they could carry Evasion through a campaign without it growing stale. For most people, the real trick will be having a friend to play in co-op with, if you don't want to roll the dice with matchmaking. Evasion's out for both SteamVR and the Oculus Rift on October 9.
Evasion will be officially available on October 9th, 2018. After two years of development, we are so excited to finally get Evasion into the hands of our amazing community! Enter the fray as a member of the Vanguard, an elite special operations team who are charged with saving an

The conflict with the Optera has a rich history, so we're doing a deep dive into Evasion's locations, characters, and story.
Humanity Takes to the Stars
Evasion is set in the early 23rd Century. Humans have colonized the spaceways thanks to FTL drives that run on a fuel called chloragen, which has become the galaxy’s most precious commodity.
The richest source of chloragen is found in space claimed by the Optera, a highly advanced and fiercely xenophobic race. When humans attempted to mine one of their worlds, a terrible war erupted. Millions of lives were lost on both sides before a fragile truce was declared. As a concession, humans were permitted to colonize one of the Optera’s moons. That moon, which the humans christened ‘Faro Colony’, became the galaxy’s largest exporter of chloragen.
Peace is Shattered
Now, decades later, the Optera have suddenly and unexpectedly launched an attack on Faro Colony. Your mission is to find out what happened on Faro Colony, and unearth what motivated the Optera to reopen a conflict that nearly brought both species to the brink of extinction. The lives of the over twelve thousand colonists, not to mention the rest of humanity, hang in the balance. Along the way, you’ll liberate outposts, travel deep into a chloragen mine, explore a town built into a crater, and face off against legions of Optera.
Enter the Vanguard
You play as a member of the Vanguard, an elite special ops team that specialize in breach reconnaissance. Like Navy SEALs of yore, the Vanguard are sent into galactic ‘hot spots’ to reconnoiter and deter threats. The Vanguard have four different classes -- Striker, Surgeon, Warden and Engineer -- each of which have a unique arsenal of weapons and abilities. You will learn more about each of these ‘hero classes’ and their capabilities in future blog posts.
A Lethal Enemy
No human has ever set foot on the Optera homeworld, so little is known about the Optera’s true origins. Did they evolve from insects, as their physiology would suggest? Are their exoskeletal structures some kind of cybernetic armor or a robotic vehicle? Their technology is highly advanced: they wield deadly energy weapons, can instantly teleport troops, and are able to launch highly coordinated attacks that don’t seem to rely on verbal communication. But what they want, and why they are so zealous about guarding their territory, remains a mystery to be solved.
You will encounter dozens of different kind of Optera as you travel through Faro Colony. From the ubiquitous Paragord to the elusive Skimmer to the fearsome Megatoma, they each pose a unique challenge that will force you to use every weapon and ability in your arsenal to survive.
Into the Storm
The campaign kicks off with a desperate distress call by Carl Dyson, a mine supervisor. Faro Colony is under attack, he proclaims, before his transmission is jammed. By the time you have boots on the ground, the moon is swarming with Optera, and you have to fight your way to the comm tower in order to discover what happened to Dyson and the other twelve thousand colonists.
Your actions are coordinated by A.D.E.L.E., an Autonomous Deep Learning Entity that helps you overcome obstacles throughout the game and provide vital insights as you fight your way deeper into enemy territory. By gaining power ups, you will unlock new weapon capabilities and learn how to wield the powerful equipment at your disposal. And as you progress further in the story, you will solve the mystery of why the Optera attacked, and what it means for the rest of the galaxy.

We had a blast at GDC this year, and it was so awesome to connect with so many VR enthusiasts and gamers over our latest demo build. Last month we revealed our final two classes, and the crowds of GDC showed us the power of teamwork and class-based synergy!
But this begs the question: who are the Optera?
In this update, we'll explore the Optera background, as well as a sneak peek at just a few of the enemy types you'll encounter!
History
The enemies in Evasion are called the Optera and very little is known about their origins. Scientists theorize that they evolved from insects, but it’s unclear whether they wear exo-suits or if the Optera themselves are cybernetic organisms. They use energy weapons, have the ability to instantaneously teleport from location to location, and can propel themselves using anti-gravity technology. Since their attacks are highly coordinated, it’s assumed that are governed by a hive mind or use some non-verbal method of communication.
The main campaign in Evasion takes place on a moon that orbits the Optera homeworld that is rich in a mineral called chloragen, which the humans use to power their ships and colonies. When humans first established a mining operation on that moon, there were some initial skirmishes with the Optera, but a peace accord was struck.
Gnats
If you’ve ever walked into a hovering cloud of tiny black insects (and probably started sputtering and frantically waving your hands in front of your face), then you’ll recognize these creatures. Gnats are the most ubiquitous enemy in Evasion. They typically travel in small groups, and while they don’t do a ton of damage, they are great at slowly whittling down your health as you focus your energy on the larger enemies. Their movement patterns are erratic and can be hard to predict. But grabbing onto them with your tether and chucking them against a building is extremely satisfying – and they die with a very pleasing scream (courtesy of our talented Sound Designer, Gonzalo Lopez)!
Paragords
These are the Optera’s foot soldiers. Since there are no other bipedal Optera, it is believed that the Optera create Paragords by using parasites called nematodes to enslave humanoid races and use them in their legions. Paragords lumber into battle and use cover in a human-like way. They will often hide behind cover and lob mortar fire on the player. They fire their weapons in short bursts, machine gun-style, often while moving and changing tactical position. Paragords are dangerous because they’re so different than the rest of the Optera troops.
Bombers
Bombers are modeled after pill bugs, or woodlice, a type of insect often found in old wooden houses. We thought it was cool how they ball up when threatened, so in our game Bombers roll into battle, plant themselves on the ground and then unfold into a mobile turret that spews blaster fire at the player. As an added bonus, if the players get to close, the Bomber will explode! (Which causes major area-of-effect damage). The best way to defeat a Bomber is to destroy it before it gets too close. As our testers have discovered, you ignore a Bomber at your peril!
Hope you’re excited to tackle the Optera swarm in game, and we’ll be back with more news soon! Be sure to add Evasion to your Wishlist, and follow us on Twitter, Reddit and Facebook for the latest news on Evasion.

It’s been a while! But we’ve returned with some really exciting updates that we’re proud of, and we hope you can see why!
First thing’s first: We are demoing our brand new build at GDC 2018. Want to try Evasion? Want to try a new HTC Vive Pro? Knock down two birds with one stone with us. Find us at the Intel Booth, #623 on the South Hall, Expo Floor. Hope to see all of you there!
Last (but of course not in the least), we revealed our final two hero classes this week: The Engineer and The Warden.
We’re stoked on having class-based game play, and excited about bringing everything we love about FPS into virtual reality. Different players have different play styles. Some people prefer to play more aggressively, charging into the fray with guns blazing. Other people having a more tentative play style, prefering to hang back and focus more on supporting their teammates. We wanted to cater to all these preferences and create space in the game for everyone.
Without much further ado, we present:
The Warden
Our tank. The Warden is ideal for players who like to charge into battle. He can take more damage than any other class and has unique abilities that allow him to get up close and personal with the enemy.
The Engineer
Our most versatile class. The Engineer can use her tether to grab enemies and whip them around. She can also deal incredible damage and energize teammate’s weapons.
The Warden and Engineer join the Surgeon and Striker in our previous demo build that was seen at IEM Oakland and IEM Katowice.
The Surgeon
Our combat medic. The Surgeon is the only class that can heal other players, making him invaluable to any team. The surgeon can also turn his abilities against the enemy in deadly ways.
The Striker
Our fast mover. The Striker is agile and deadly. Her weapons deal awesome damage, and she has unique skills that allow her to bolster teammate’s weapons.
Hope you dig what we’ve been cooking up for you behind the scenes, and let us know:
Which class will be the first you try on Evasion? :)
