Hello Islandvillers...
Sorry for the lapse in contact but I simply needed a break. Im cooked. I honestly dont know what I am going to do except to keep fixing the problems one by one. I feel EVERY ONE of these reviews I am getting right now. I am now STUCK in a place I never wanted to be as an indie dev. Someone else effecting my final product and I can't do or say much about it. So what I have been doing is focusing on a NEW plan to return the game to as close to the "old version" as I possibly can. There are some things that are hardcoded into the new engine that I can not change but I am currently working on giving the player more options in the start menus to play Survivor and Birthday Modes "more like the old way". That's all I can say at the moment. I TRUELY THANK YOU for understanding where I am with this game and the predicament that I am in as a solo dev.
To be honest... I did not want to release as a 1.0 "finished version" yet but a game can not be on "other" platforms when it is "still in production (Early Access)".... So here we are.
I will say this. The Coin Game will NOT be finished UNTIL Multiplayer is completed and Players are happy with the game again. I think I understand the task and I plan to work on it until we get there. You can be sure that I will be trying EVERYTHING I can to get rid of the things we dont like and then fixing the things that didn't need changing.
Thank you.

Small peek of one of the new coin pusher hybrids (Ticket TITAN) that I am currently still modeling. I am trying to finish it up for the next update. There will be PLENTY of changes coming in the next update. ;)

Hello Islandvillers!
devotid here with another Hot Fix for you! I'll keep sitting in this chair until they are ALL gone. Thank you for giving me a chance and supporting this crazy project "reaching" for the next level. Not everything in life goes how you plan... but its how you answer those tough times that will define you. So thank you to all of you giving me a chance to fix this and build it better than it has ever been.
FIXES: - Fixed the leaderboards taking over the game and locking the players input with the watch open. It will also now warn you to close the leaderboards before opening the watch. - Fixed the final menu navigation and restarting of a new game after a survival mode death. - More menu tweaks and adjustments for general navigation. Adapting the game to other platforms has made this "interesting". - Fixed the birthday bots causing a FPS spike in Larry's arcade when the band is on or when they flock to you when you win a bonus. - Adjusted the grabber hinge on the player to be a little "stiffer" to be a little more precise with the grabbing of heavy objects like the bike and bots. - Adjusted the player camera system that introduced a slight "motion sickness" for players. It should be crispier and sharper on all graphic levels now. - Adjusted player control. More drag. More precision. More like it used to be. - Now you can jump out of dumpsters a little easier too. It will kind of "jump" up the wall easier. - Adjusted the "exiting" of the bike to help stop the player getting hurt when jumping off. - Fixed some movement issues in the Underground Bunker and the players home. - Fixed the players arms that didnt "reach" for the machines with a card in the players hand. The animations were corrupted and needed to be reimported for the new engine. - Fixed the player mesh not showing the legs crouching. Same thing as above. The animations were not getting imported properly into the new engine. - Dunko and Cuckoo Coin pusher coins are a bit "thicker" now and have adjusted physics materials on them. They effect each other more "edge to edge" now. - Adjusted the friction on the Dunko and Cuckoo Coin gamecards so they will move a little easier on the tables with the coins. - Made the rarity of Popcorn Pete cards a little less spread out between the cards. Should be a little easier to get the black cards now. - Adjusted the coin pushers at the Carnival as they were taking too long to "pay". They now push much farther and use a smaller "pool" area. They also uses less frame rate when they fill up. - Fixed Prizemaster Items not falling after winning them. - Fixed the Prizemaster 3rd person camera showing clipping glasses on the main players. Now it just shows them with no eyeballs and its even scarier. - Adjusted the Power Pucks Bots return power shot on the Air Hockey games. - Fixed the glow-in-the-dark stars in the bedroom ceiling not charging when the lights were on and then now they will discharge after the lights are turned off. - Fixed the inventory not dropping items right away as there was a delay that would make it not drop them. Sometimes you would have to click and wait. Not anymore. The inventory was waiting until the audio clip was finished to drop it. Now it is snappy and instant like before. - Fixed more of the sitting chairs that were "stealing" and "locking" players items. - Fixed an area in Barrys Pawn Shop where the player could get trapped. - New default mapping on more supported controllers. - Fixed the death scenes when in a car, bus, kart, bike or riding a waterslide, carnie ride or playing Putt Putt Golf. - Fixed the bingo monitor menu not showing the win amount possible or even the game speed. Now the game speed (changeable with JoystickX Left-Right) will show on the monitor along with the amount that the game is worth if you win. - Adjusted the cabinet colliders in Larrys Arcade to stop the player getting stuck against coin machines.
KNOWN ISSUES: - Player is sticking to the ground at the bus stops and the entrances to the malls. Still have to do some modeling to get rid of the new underfoot mesh that makes the player stick to the ground. - Arcade Bots don't currently "jump" around you or the stage as they were using a inefficient way of setting the bots height and effecting the frame rate negatively. I am currently building better and more interactive bots for the arcades. - When inside a building and the "final news scene" comes up the news camera can clip into parts of the buildings and look goofy. I am still redoing that. - House is a little darker in the living room after baking all the static lighting. I will adjust in the next patch update. - Vehicle physics are still getting tuned. The sports car is not for the faint of heart. Barry roached the tires out doing donuts at the mall. Ill get them fixed asap. - Pumpkin Pusher at mall is acting erratic and not functioning properly during the lighted bonus round. (On the right side of playfield) - Make sure to carry items in you inventory and not the back of the Golf Cart for now until I fix the wheel colliders with the new physics system.
I will be doing some more of these hot fix patches and then will get right back into some new content and the multiplayer games. Thank you VERY MUCH for supporting The Coin Game.

Hello Islandvillers!
I am thankful to say that I have finished a patch that I believe will fix many of the problems players are facing with the new 1.0 update! I also brought back the old physics on the coin pushers. In this update I have focused on game/inventory saving and controller/Keyboard mapping along with player movement. I have also re-installed the much loved "old legacy" physics on ALL coin pushers and throwing games. This is a huge task to do in 48 hours and will require a little more tweaking to perfect them but I am very happy with them. I got a little preoccupied with updating the entire engines backend that I started taking advantage of many new Unity features when I should not have been. The physics were fine how they were in the old games BUT we DO NEED the optimizations that are available in the new engine... So I am trying to keep most of them and return to the old coin physics. New tech is tempting but in the end the old system just feels much better. More coin pushy if you know what I mean? Let me know in the comments below.
FIXED MAJOR ISSUES: - FIXED The inventory not saving properly. Now it will NOT carry over "ghost" items from previous saves. Inventory should now reset properly between all games.
- FIXED the controller mapping not saving between games. Same thing as the inventory system but this time the saving system was not initializing and loading previous controller configs.
- FIXED the controller default mapping. Axis invert is now working after clicking load default settings on the input mapper menu.
- FIXED The player could get stuck in the Ticket Eater menu when the leaderboards came on and then the ESC Menu would not work. This would result in a hard lock of the game and not being able to save or quit. Now you can exit the machines with Q Key "ExitMachine" (Or what ever you have it mapped too) when the leaderboards come up.
- FIXED the floors sticking to the player in MANY indoor interiors and not allowing the player to jump or move cleanly. This would also cause the player to slide all over the floor with no grip. I am still adjusting the player control as the "old coin physics" will require me to tune the player movement back to the old way again.
- FIXED the player not being able to walk on the roads by Barry's Pawn Shop and some of the curbs by the mall.
- FIXED Loading scenes were too short on some of the interior scenes/buildings. Now it will stay black and frozen for a bit longer to let the scene load on slower machines.
- FIXED the bots not being able to hit the pucks on the Power Puck Air Hockey games. Watch out they are now more powerful and more precise.
- FIXED The coin pushers not "playing" correctly. I went back to "the old way" and it took adjusting all 20 coin style games/machines in the game.
- FIXED The missing balls in the Pumpkin Pusher in the Mall. They were not getting batched as one mesh on slower machines.
- FIXED Mega Drop physics and made the balls a little more bouncy for more action. I was watching the "Bingo King" and it looked a little too tough to get a Mega Bonus.
- Fixed the Vehicles as they get floaty when the coin pushers are working on the old physics system. Sports Car is still crazy loose but it has 600 HP so its supposed to be stupid.
- Fixed roof top, beach chairs and babysitter couches "triggers" from "freezing" your prizes. Now you should be able to pick them up from booths and chairs now.
- FIXED Pick Yer Treasure hands moving too fast on picking the color to play. Also fixed the missing audio on the same machine.
- FIXED Collider in the front of interior of Goose Lodge Hallway as items were getting lost on the floor.
KNOWN ISSUES: - VEHICLES: With the re-introduction of the old better coin pusher physics you can no longer carry items in the back of the golf cart (Or on any vehicle) as the suspension will break. The game is built with a certain stacking physics feature that allows us to play with 1000's of coins in the coin pushers but does not play friendly with Unity Wheel colliders. I am still working on a solution for those. (Basically exactly like the old system... lol)
- PLAYER CONTROL: The player can not jump very high at all when rubbing up against a wall. If you get caught in a dumpster or small area... try to jump when not touching any walls or surfaces... then start to move once you are in the air. I will fix this in a future update.
PLAYER CONTROL: The speed and movement of the player when inside any building is too fast still. I used to have a system that controlled the players movement differently when inside as compared to outside and I stupidly removed it for another system. I will be redoing that as the player must move more precisely and slowly when inside and adjusting or looking at machines.
- LOST DATA: The items in your inventory with your old save files cannot be corrected (brought back) with the new inventory system as the old save data was just wrong. I am sorry about that. You will still have all the items on the ground and in the world as they were always safe and saving properly but from here on out the inventory saving between games should be working.
- GAME PAUSE: It is not currently working (pausing time) and you can die in Survivor Mode. Be careful time will still be passing.
- Some spots in the Mall entrance carpeted areas are still "sticky" for the player. There is two colliders below the player and that causes it to get "stuck". I need to do a little modeling to fix that one. Just pretend some kids spilled soda there.
- Vehicles: I will be tuning them more as we go. They are now back on the old physics and will all require some tweaking to get back to the old feelings.
That is all for now. I will be back with more fixes and news soon.
I have also heard all the feedback for the "new" survivor mode and I will be brainstorming some adjustments for the future. Thank you again for the opportunity to build this game and dont forget to support your local arcade.

Hello Islandvillers!
First off just wanted to say that I am sorry for the rough launch and the failure of many key systems in the game. It was unacceptable and Its no ones fault but mine. I had a new game saving system and Player controller that I rebuilt and I thought it was ready to go. It turns out I could not have been more wrong. I wont dwell on it and make excuses. I am just going to work as hard as I can to fix these mistakes for the community. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding in these times.
I have spent the last 48 hours working on things that I CAN fix right away. The inventory and Controller configs intermittently saving will take me a little longer to fix properly and I will have more news on that as SOON as I have it. Again. I am very sorry and I will have this remedied as soon as BOTly possi.... eeerr I mean humanly possible.
Here are the current Day 2 Hot Fixes that I have finished: Just restart your game to take advantage of them... - FIXED the floaty feeling in the player controller. The Character Controller drag was not getting reset to full "drag" after jumping. Also added a little faster digital axis button simulation speed. That will return the button push back to "stopped" faster and make it more linear/binary. - FIXED a bug that would allow the player slide around very easily until they hit the jump button one time after scene load and reset the friction controller. - Fixed the Babysitter job not being able to grab the bots and put them into the bed. - Fixed the leaderboards on the Stackem machines. now they are reset as well as they were not recording to the new lists - Added a system in to save the Barry's Hot Items between saves and make sure they last each WHOLE day in survivor Mode. In Birthday mode they will just reset every time you load the game like they used to. - FIXED the carnival games not saving your game credits. - FIXED the programable bots that were not saving their current state during a job and amount of items "completed". Now they will get you what's owed when you save and reload the game. - FIXED The audio not working on the Bike when riding on roads. - FIXED the audio not working on the approaching cars. I saw a couple streamers get hit out of nowhere yesterday and we are sorry about the Island safety issue. - Turned the culling distance down a little to make the vehicles a little more optimized. - Removed 12 extra Traffic Audio Sources from the traffic vehicles to try to free up Audio Headroom for the culling of sounds. - Adjusted all vehicles tire friction and their suspension travel to help them travel off the main roads a little. - Added a menu to the bottom of the screen to let players know that the Phonebooth is in there watch after unlocking it. It was not clear and not found in testing. Its only available in English for now and will be translated in time. The Phonebooth is only available in Survivor Mode. - Added helper colliders around the ZOLBOT machine to help with users dropping cards and losing them in the ground. - FIXED the mesh that would get left in the world when you put the Slingshot in your inventory. - LOWERED the energy consumption on the Lawn Mowing system to make it a little easier to not die. - ADJUSTED the mower speed and turning ability to make it a little easier. - Removed the Street Tuffs from the front door of Larry's Arcade. They were beating up guest through the walls at Larry's Arcade. - FIXED the super bright lights in Dunko after a HUGE Bonus. - Lowered the bingo cards to allow the player to click the lower left number on the cards. - FIXED Barry's door not showing the loading screen - LITTLE MORE Speed on the mower. - FIXED the bots attacking you at the Goose Lodge.
Known Issues that I am working on: - Player Inventory is not saving properly. Items placed in a pile or on the ground are safer for now as the inventory is not writing to the save file correctly. Items in the world are saving correctly. Its just the inventory for now and I will get it fixed asap. - Controller mapping and AXIS reversing not saving between games. Built on the same system and currently not writing to the save file correctly. Fix is to remap at start for now. Will have a fix for this one shortly. - Loss of audio in certain areas - Bike causing damage to players on exit. Careful jumping off at full speed. - and more optimization coming after I figure these game saving bugs out.
That's all I have for this first quick update and I will be on the rest until they are fixed. You have my word. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Over the last year I have rebuilt The Coin Game with an updated Unity engine. I planned on this taking 5-6 months. Well I couldn't have been more wrong. The scene loading system that I rebuilt, required recoding every single machine in all six of the interior buildings. That alone took me months to do. Just the translations took 6 months. Apparently there is ten's of thousands of words in The Coin Game. Haha. I mean. I should know that, as I wrote them all. Its crazy how much stuff one person can pile up over a decade of working on something. I am grateful for all the help and wonderful people I have met along the way. We are now ready for the next chapter but first let me tell you about the new version.
The new 1.0 version has been highly optimized to eliminate the constant glitching and hiccups that would effect lower end machines. I have completely rebuilt scene loading systems and the way that the player is loaded into and out of interior spaces. The new way will add a small "loading time" pause when entering some of the larger arcades now but the overall performance of the game is 20-30% better once the scenes are loaded. I am still adjusting this as I get more feedback but overall the entire game runs WAY better and I could not be happier. Even the initial loading times to start a new game are over 50% faster.
In this refreshed 1.0 version there are new locations, new vehicles, new Survivor mode "transport phonebooth", new survivor mode side quests and bank foreclosure "problems" to help Barry solve with 4 of the islands landmark arcades. There is also a new survivor mode "ending" with a puzzle to solve and many more fixes and changes throughout the entire island. As is everything in The Coin Game... the ending is never 100% finished and I will always be adding to it and tweaking. Its just too much fun.
I also have some future updates planned with more content and features that already running on the new engine. Cough Cough (multiplayer games). I will be releasing some new stuff and the Multiplayer as soon as I have it farther along on this new platform. Having to pause the multiplayer development this whole time while the game is being upgraded has been REALLY tough but it HAD TO BE DONE. Much of the old ways I was doing things were flat out wrong and would not have worked. Now we can build on something we can be sure of. But long story short... I am sorry for the lapse in new content updates throughout this tough learning experience. I thank you all for being patient and letting me cook.
I will be in the trenches throughout the 1.0 launch with my team of bug smashing tech wizards... so if you see or experience a bug, Don't panic. Just let us know and We will be fixing and releasing patches as quick as we can.
(hint... there are WAY more things in the game that are changed than listed here. My dev sheet is almost 30 pages of stuff that I rebuilt. I tried to just write down the things that are actually going to be "new/different". As many of the things that were rebuilt, you should not be able to tell. Hence they don't need to be listed below.)
CHANGE LOG:
Updated Engine: - Entire game now updated and running on Unity 2022 thus giving us all kinds of optimizations and new tools to take advantage of. Game is about 20-30% faster on most machines.
12 Languages: - Game now translated into 12 new languages. You can access them in the options menu with the dropdown. Game will autosave your last choice.
New game saving system: - Its faster, lighter and most importantly, it is easier for me to expand into the future.
Sensitivity adjustments: - New controller and joystick sensitivity adjustments. Cross platform compatibility and new input adjustments.
New controller glyphs: - (hints for keymapping) for when you are using a controller and even a new system for mouse and keyboard users. Should make learning the game a little easier for newcomers as well.
Higher quality Textures and resolutions around the maps: - A little more optimized game play gave me the ability to turn up some of the areas that needed it.
New Mailbox Newspaper delivery colliders: - Now you don't have to put the papers "into" the mail box. Now you can just hold them to the center of it and it will take it from you. This will help you speed up the process and make money faster. The old way was fun but I just felt bad after watching hours of videos of people getting angry and frustrated.
New "Foreclosed" and run-down locations in survivor mode: - Now when you are playing in survivor mode the island is in a rough neglected state. Now you must help Barry save the island and become part owner of each closed location. This is done through the ATM money machines in Survivor mode. Once you have "donated" enough to open a location, you will become part owner and receive "royalties" each morning when you wake up from sleeping. Once you unlock ALL four of the "foreclosed arcade locations" you will be gifted a secret location on the map to the next steps... Good Luck.
New Transportation: - New "unlockable" transportation Phonebooth system (like the limo but even faster) in Survivor mode that you can unlock after getting access to a certain prize. It requires a special prize item to unlock it once finding it... but I will let Uncle Phil's notes fill you in on the rest. Party On Islandvillers!
New Vehicles: - 2 New Vehicles are now available. They are free from Uncle Phil in Birthday Mode but as always you must buy them to get the advantages in Survivor Mode.
New SuperKart: - Now you can own the same Go Kart from UFO race course. Its a 8HP gas engine and it only runs on Race Fuel (Available at Jerrys Gas and Go). You can purchase the GO Kart behind Stan-O's Doggie Bones Warehouse for $1800.00.
New Super Sports Car: - Everyone wants Barry's whip. Now you can have your very own. Its not cheap to purchase and runs only on Race Gas (Available at Jerrys Gas and Go) but I heard its pretty fast. It has a similar radio to the family mini van. You can reset it to your home if anything ever happens to it and makes it undrivable (See the watch Map Menu). Barry is asking $23,000 and he wont budge on the price so save your money up and get those royalties flowing.
Race Fuel: - Added a new Race Fuel to the game. It is available at Jerrys gas and Go. The SuperKart and the Sports Car run only on Race Fuel. Its a lot more expensive but the performance is worth it. The new vehicles are still getting tuned and expect them to get a couple more tweaks and adjustments before I am done with them.
New Physics: - New main player physics system adjustments. Unity 2022 required me to rewrite some of the outdated physics systems that I was using and that forced me to change the way the player jumps and interacts with some of the world items. I am still tweaking and adjusting this one.
New physics on the racing Karts at UFO arcade: - They now are a little easier to move out of your way. Makes passing and interacting with the AI racing bots a little more fun.
In general MOST games that involve physics will most likely feel a little different on this new system. They all feel a bit snappier and responsive. I am pretty happy with 99% of the results from the update.
To celebrate the launch we are blessing you with a 25% Launch Discount for the first week!
Don't forget to enter into our launch giveaway, where you could be in with a chance to win a real life mega-sized Dunko Duck! The competition closes on 26th March 2026, so get your entries in here.

There were two golden ages of arcade gaming: the late 70s to early 80s, and the 90s. Even though I fall into the late 90s category, I remember the last few years of the arcade heyday—shelling out hundreds of credits for Mortal Kombat and Time Crisis. The Coin Game invites players back to those simpler times of being a teenager in those arcade gaming eras, before the console wars began.
This meant using babysitting and local lawn cutting service money to play games at the local shopping mall arcade, or some kind of arcade chain—like a Chuck E. Cheese, Woody Woodchuck’s, or a Wizard’s Castle. It also involved spending some of that money to buy a ton of junk food and sodas.
The Coin Game was made by a solo developer—devotid—who put the game in Early Access on Steam back on February 22, 2019. On March 19, 2026, the game is finally leaving Early Access and hitting 1.0. The Coin Game involves a collection of ticket redemption arcades with realistic physics, a... Read more

Hey there, Islandvillers!
The new 1.0 launch is just around the corner and I am so excited for the 19th March!
I've been pretty busy "doing the codes" with Jerry Bot (It's what he calls coding). Him and I have been optimizing, adding new content and working on many quality of life fixes over the last year. Ever since Jerry Bot learned "the computers" over the last few seasons he thinks he is a coder now because he figured out how to change the dinger on his digital door chime at the Gas and Go. So I just tell him he is helping... :)
This new 1.0 version marks a new era for The Coin Game. A new higher standard of quality. (I want to say a BIG thanks to the QA Beta testing crew and all staff in the background at Kwalee and Hyper Luminal. They are amazing and the backbone of a good bug free game. My old bugs reports were written in crayon on napkins before you all showed up. I could not have done this without you all. BIG Thank you.) In the new version I re-adjusted and tweaked almost all machines and optimized the whole island of interactive objects. We even managed to open up more space to add a little more content in the future. Even though this is "1.0", you all know me and know that I will always be making new content. The Coin Games 1.0 status means I just take it a little more serious and polish it a little brighter. I still have so many ideas on paper and in my head that its just too hard to stop.
Throughout this rebuild journey I had to make many decisions: What to rebuild? What to keep? What to make better? It wasn't easy but the one single thing that needed the update the most was the Unity Engine as it was going on almost 9 years old now. Now The Coin Game is running on a fresh new 2022 version and it's running better than it ever has.... and with that I need to share some important news regarding your old Early Access save files.
Existing Early Access save files will not be compatible with the V1.0 update. I know... I know... Its not the best news but the new version saves differently and old save files just wont transfer to this new engine. This is due to the game's underlying old save system being rebuilt from scratch. As the game grew through Early Access, I kept hitting technical limits that were killing performance and stopping me from adding all the content/features I wanted. Also Multiplayer (when its finished) will use many of the features of the new engine.... but more about that later in the year. Lets stay focused on the single player 1.0 launch for now. ;)
All is not lost!
We know how much time and love you’ve poured into your current worlds/characters/saves. So in order to preserve your valuable time wasting investment we have arranged to keep some old builds live for vintage prize collectors. This way you and Gary can revisit your old favorite pile of old plushies in the Kitchen.
So when V1.0 launches, we will be opening a "Legacy" branch on Steam. You will be able to opt into this branch to continue playing the final Early Access version of the game and finish your current Early Access run. The save files will be completely separate from new ones... so feel free to play either one.
How to access your old saves:
In your Steam Library:
Right-Click on The Coin Game
Select Properties
Select "Game Versions & Betas" and you will see a Game Version called "legacy"
Select "legacy"
Wait for the game to update
As always... I just wanted to share my appreciation for the support that I've received over the last decade of working on this project. We together are clicking off some major milestones I NEVER imagined would happen to this project. The future is bright and ready to be played. Bring your quarters.
And final note... My producer at Kwalee has helped me port The Coin Game to your favorite game consoles in 12 different languages.. I spent the last month sitting on my couch tuning it in for controllers.... So if if you love siting on couches instead of office chairs... we got your favorite time waster covered on consoles as well.

HELLO ISLANDVILLERS!!
March 19th, 2026!
Save the date! THE COIN GAME V.1.0 WILL BE RELEASED!
I am happy to announce that the long road to 1.0 has come to an end. The Coin Game is coming to PC and Consoles on March 19th, 2026!
Released on Steam Early Access in 2019, The Coin Game was a tiny idea I had pitched to Steam Green Light. After a few months of gathering votes it passed. I was blown away that others liked the idea of a small town arcade time waster. Here we are almost 7 years later and now with a rock solid new foundation to build into the future on!
Fresh new whips...
Fresh new locations...
Lets look back at where we came from...
This is the map back in 2018: (One small location with 6 machines)
This is the map from Today: (Now with over 150 Machines and games!)
Coming March 19th this 1.0 release comes with a range of optimizations, updates, new content and all new Survivor Mode adventures. The new version even comes with a couple new vehicles to relive your favorite cruising pass times of the 90s.
SuperKart:
New Transporter system: (Survivor mode fast travel unlockable system)
with more info to come... Stay tuned to our socials, turn on whatever notifications you got because we will be releasing more info over the next couple of weeks. So be ready to waste some time Islandville style!
Gary and Nanny Bot are ready to go!
As always... Thank you VERY MUCH for all of your wonderful support of The Coin Game and I will see you soon in 1.0!
Hello Islandvillers! I just wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from my family to yours! I hope you hit ALL the Jackpots and Bonuses in 2026! I wanted to say how THANKFUL I am to ALL of our players and supporters for giving me the opportunity of a lifeti
Hello Islandvillers!
I just wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from my family to yours! I hope you hit ALL the Jackpots and Bonuses in 2026!
I wanted to say how THANKFUL I am to ALL of our players and supporters for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime. From starting out in Steam Early Access over 8 years ago with a silly idea to now progressing to multiple gaming platforms coming in 2026 and also coming soon to more than a dozen new languages, The Coin Game has far exceeded all of my expectations. So for making that happen, again I am forever grateful to EVERY player, streamer, reviewer and new friend I have made along the way for making that happen. THANK YOU.
I also want to thank Kwalee for giving me a wonderful platform/team to build this amazing place. I have spent the entire last year of my life working with new members and teams that are completely dedicated to fixing, rebuilding and upgrading The Coin Game for its real 1.0 launch into the world. THANK YOU.
And Last... I have said this before and I will say it again.... because it is killing me to not be able to release new content for the last 8 months. I never in a million years thought I would be rebuilding the entire game behind the scenes from scratch... but I am now glad that we did. Its amazing. We are now in the final "beta testing" stages after 8 months of work. We are almost there. After the new year I will be back with some more pics and info about the coming changes and new content. Until then, If you celebrate... I wish you all the most wonderful holiday wishes!
Side note: I AM SO SORRY for not being able to turn on the Christmas lights and snow this year during the construction in Islandville. The game was in a hundred pieces and thrown all over the shop at that time. haha. The new versions of the game were simply not done in time for the Holidays this year. The Christmas cheer will return EVEN BIGGER AND BETTER for 2026. You have my word on that. I have put Barry on a XMAS CHEER committee and he will be raising more donations from the bots for more lights and cheer. Lots of lights. Lot of cheer.
I love you all. Tell your friends and family that you love them. Maybe even go to an arcade with them this Holiday season and then tell the Arcade that The Coin Game sent you. We must support them or we will lose them.

This week, we’ll be looking at the iconic DUNKO machine 🦆
Which real life machine inspired the idea of the DUNKO coin pusher?
When I was around 10 I lived in a small town that would host a traveling carnival. I only lived about a block away from the park so I would ride my bike there every summer. They had a couple traveling trailers full of “shady” coin pushers. They were the older wooden pushers that you could pause the game and load em up for a good push. I would play them for hours and annoy the workers so much that they would send me away to the local party store for snacks and made up orders. I loved them as I felt like I was “in control”. All the other games required fighter pilot precision, popeye throwing arm or just straight up luck. The coin pushers were a way for me to get the prizes I wanted… but it took time. Lots and lots of time but as a 9 year old kid in a small town, one thing I had was lots of time. Haha.
Where did the name DUNKO come from?
It was inspired by the “PLINKO” game on The TV show “The Price Is Right”. I mean.. Who didn’t love that game?. Very early on when I prototyped the gameboard for the Dunko coin pusher I thought a “plinko inspired” theme would be fun to drop coins into and it would add a little to the first step of the game. Making it a little harder to “aim” your shot. The interior of Dunko was supposed to be a spin on the old “water/oil” filled hand held games of the 70-80’s. I put a bunch of bubbles inside to try to make it look like it was full of water. But when I put actual water textures in there it just felt too silly. Hence the bubbles magically floating in air now. Things sometimes work funny on islandville.
PLINKO on The Price is Right
What is your favourite arcade memory of the machine that inspired DUNKO?
The Dunko coin pusher’s gameboard was one of the first physics systems I built in Unity back in 08-09 when I was just getting started. I basically started my game dev journey with just that main machine. I went on to create a couple other games in other genres and then one day I opened up that old project to play with some physics ideas and The Coin Game was born.
When making the DUNKO machine, did you know that you wanted it to be in Larry’s Arcade originally?
Originally the game was just going to be inside Larry’s Arcade. It had a small parking lot with a tall fence around it. It was about 5% of the size of the current island. Early on I was just focusing on getting more machines into the game and thought the single location would be enough. Then one night I was playing with a tool called “Gaia” (back then it was a new Unity Asset for building huge realistic terrains). I was having a blast generating random islands and mountains in another test project and then it hit me. Why not have a bunch of arcades and cool stuff from that same era?
A very early DUNKO build!
How long did the DUNKO machine take to create in game?
About 3 years… hahah. If you count the time the original prototype sat on my hard drive when I was working on D Series Off Road Simulation and RC Simulation 2.0. But to be serious, once I was committed full time on The Coin Game I would say it was about 2 months to finish it up. An average machine in the game takes about 1-2 months to complete. I start with the model, texture, add physics, create game logic and then add score keeping with leaderboards. I finish with lots and lots of play testing and tweaking.
The early build to the iconic machine in game!
Now we ask you, Islandvillers…what is/was YOUR favourite game at the arcade? We would love to hear your answers in our Steam Discussions! Follow the link here to join our dev diary discussion of the week.

Unity recently announced a major security vulnerability (CVE-2025-59489) affecting many games that are made with Unity. So yesterday, BarryBot and I implemented the security fix that was issued. You will see a small update being pushed to all users the next time you start the game. It was just for security and only backend stuff. I am still converting the game to a newer version of Unity but this HAD to be done. Barry and I value all users and their ability to game safely in Islandville.
I will also be removing the original free demo for The Coin Game on Monday of next week. It is so old that it doesn't even represent the game properly. I will possibly look into a new one after the next large update comes out this winter season.
That's about it for now and to be totally honest.... BarryBot didnt do anything. He just stared at me yelling about "cleaning his new wheels".

What an adventure. Its been a couple months since I have seen another human besides my wife and maybe a couple random postal workers. The days all blend together and sometimes I feel like Jerry Bot and I are really friends. He talks about the old days when gas was only pennies for a gallon as I tell him all about the new version of Unity and how tough it is to update a 100 Gig project in the middle of developing it. He pretends to understand what I am talking about but I can tell he is clueless, as he knows nothing about modern technology. As always though, The ol'fart is weirdly optimistic and always encouraging me to get er done. I can tell he trusts me with all of his gears. He knows better than anyone that it is a big responsibility to build and maintain such a wonderful island. He knows and trusts that I love Islandville as much as he does... so he just sits and stares at me in the corner patiently moving stuff around trying to pretend like he is helping. I love the guy. I really do. I am also going crazy. Hahaha.
I have now spent 7 months with a team of coders that have helped me update the whole project to Unity 2022 from Unity 2018 (its about 6 versions of updates and I was told to NOT do this unless I wanted to "rebuild the entire game"). The process has been very challenging but a wonderful growing experience for me as a developer. I have learned so much and I have essentially used this opportunity as a way to "rebuild" the entire game the way that it should have been from the beginning. Below I will tell you all about the steady but slow progress I have made. (Spoiler alert.... I have a proof of concept already running with all the updates in it and it is the fastest and best it has EVER been. Sorry I got a little excited and had to tell everyone. I still have a ways to go yet but wanted to share that.)
The current builds (from the new Unity 2022 version) that I am working on in the background have much faster loading times. Higher overall frame rates in all areas. Better looking graphics. Better feeling physics. New better menus with Controller Glyphs. New locations and even new vehicles. The list goes on and on. Even working in the Unity editor's "backend" is so much nicer and I feel like I am making more quality changes to the game than I have in years. Entire systems that I didnt really like before have been updated or even completely replaced. Also, As a result of all the new updates and changes, the stupid Garbage Collection "hiccup/glitch" that happens every 15 seconds on some machines is COMPLETELY gone in the next update.
To get these amazing results, I have chopped the game up into modular better working "chunks" or scenes. From day one when I started this game back in 2019 I really didnt know how to build a huge open world game in Unity. I mean... who knew that stuffing a whole game into one scene was a dumb idea? (Yes, I actually did that.) This resulted in very long loading times and low FPS on many machines. The rookie mistakes I made when I built this game in 2019 were starting to show their rough edges the more I filled the island with content. As I rammed more and more objects into an already full game, I came to the conclusion that I needed to reset and work on the foundation first. So that is what I have done. Every single inch of this place. With a fine tooth comb.
Since dividing the game into 11 smaller scenes, this has given me the ability to "unload" more of the world when it is not being used or in view of the players camera. In the current and older versions I was just "turning objects off" in the background as a form of Occlusion Culling. The problem with that is Unity will only truly "unload" the objects from the games "total used memory" if it is in another scene and completely "unloaded" from the "main" scene. When objects were just "turned off", the memory was not getting "released" for use in other areas. This would cause a glitch and a lower frame rates. The new version I am finishing up will run much faster and the loading times in the opening scene are about 1/10th of the time that it used to be.
Another big thing I have done is, I have began the process of translating the entire game into a bunch of different languages. I thought this was a good way to make everyone feel more at home in Islandville. I am currently building a menu system to easily change the native language in the options menu. I will talk more about this after it is closer to completion.
During this update to Unity 2022 I have also finished two more vehicles for us to cruise around the island in. One is the Race Kart from UFO arcade. When released you will be able to buy it from a local bot behind Sparkys Doggie Bone factory. The other vehicle is a fresh new Sports Car called the Lambeaux. I think we all kind of wanted to drive it since we have seen it parked behind Barrys Pawn shop. I am still finishing up the audio and some physics on these new vehicles. More news and info on these later when they are closer to release.
So as you can see there is a lot going on in the background even though it is pretty quiet around here. AGAIN. This update is not fully complete yet and will be available in the future. I just wanted to touch base and let you all know the state of development. If I had to give numbers, I would say that I am about 75% done with the Unity upgrade to 2022 and will be working on rebuilding some more systems in the game (like wrapping up survivor mode story, finishing multiplayer, new game saving systems and EVEN MORE content!). I do not have any dates yet. I can only say that it will be worth it in the end. Just like Jerry... you must trust me.
Thank you all for supporting The Coin Game and as always... Support your local arcade! Tell them The Coin Game sent ya!
Now I have to go "fishin" with Jerry. He wont stop until I say yes.
