Every level of Into the Breach is like one of those ball bearing mazes that come in Christmas crackers. They're a puzzle in miniature that, with enough patience and planning, can be solved in a single faultless run. Success in both comes paired with a sense of relief, as each move towards the end carries the risk of losing all the progress made so far. This comparison falls apart, however, in that I tend to snap the toy in two before Boxing Day, yet after months with Into the Breach I'm still in love with its challenge.
I spend a lot of my time playing Into the Breach staring at the screen, trying to solve the mental Rubik's cube that is each turn. The enemy aliens move into position, every one of them trying to attack either my time-travelling mech rpilots, or the densely populated city blocks I'm trying to defend. Then it's up to me to find a way to kill, block, or move the enemy before their attacks land. For instance, a well-placed mortar shell can shove a bug one square to the east, meaning their claws will swipe at thin air instead of a skyscraper.
What I've come to appreciate most over the year I've now spent with Into the Breach is its spirit of reinvention. Yes, each time you play you're diving into a new procedurally generated campaign, but I'm really referring to the squad system.
If you enjoy turn-based strategy games and roguelikes, and you haven't played Into the Breach yet, I implore you to put down every other game you're playing (yes, even Balatro) and do so. Built by Subset Games, the masterminds behind the also-excellent FTL: Faster Than Light, Int
If you enjoy turn-based strategy games and roguelikes, and you haven't played Into the Breach yet, I implore you to put down every other game you're playing (yes, even Balatro) and do so. Built by Subset Games, the masterminds behind the also-excellent FTL: Faster Than Light, Into the Breach is a truly masterful piece of design: part puzzle, part tactics, part mechs, and 100% pure satisfaction, it ranks among greats like Slay the Spire, Dead Cells, and Hades as one of the best in the business. Boasting a 94% Steam rating, and at a huge discount right now thanks to a Steam sale, don't just take my word for it - give it a try.

Combine the turn-based mech battles of Into The Breach with the rule-changing puzzling of Baba Is You and you have Mobile Suit Baba, whose launch I entirely missed right before Christmas. Pick a squad of mechs to field in different scenarios where you must push, pull, and slam your way to victory. All of which will be so much easier if you rewrite the rules by shunting around syntax blocks. And yes, Baba is piloting a giant Baba-shaped mech.

Hello everyone!
Small patch today with various fixes for reported bugs over the last few months. Please continue sending in reports (our email at [email protected] is the most effective place). And thanks for playing!
1.2.88 Changelog:
-Fixed cloning Power Cores exploit involving the Store's undo option -Fixed repair platform exploit for achievements involving healing and using 'undo move' -Plasmodia, Spider, and Blobber bosses will correctly take damage from Void Shocker -Kills from the Void Shocker will correctly trigger on-death effects and XP -Frame Limiting setting and End Turn Confirmation setting fixed -Alpha Vek icon restored (important for colorblind mode) for some of the new enemies -Removed Earth Mover / Mine Bots from the Attack Order display. They do not have queued attacks, so any positional order is misleading. -Restored Terrain Icons in situations where Fire may be obscuring other tile information (Conveyor Belts, Cracked, etc.) -Using Enrage Shot to make an enemy attack a blank space will now appropriately trigger Void Shocker -Logic for determining if a tile is "dangerous" has been improved to account for units being pushed. This is helpful for Enemy AI, Pod Placement, and more. -Enemies should no longer spawn behind the player on the Forest Fire mission (rare issue) -Earth Mover's tile will can no longer start as Cracked -Possible fix: Game could hang when it could not find a place for pawns to spawn -"Let's Walk" achievement will only count enemies now (as described in the text) -"Minor" enemies will no longer count towards the "Pacifist" achievement (making it easier) -Fixed bugs around Networked Shielding to make it more consistent -ACID will now remove Vek Mites even if the pilot has Thick Skin -Fix for extremely rare cases of Vek corpses being pushed when they should not be -Fixed numerous bugs around the weapon effect preview UI -Wind Torrent push-ordering has been modified to make outcomes more consistent with the effect preview -Minor text / UI issues fixed
Mod Helpers:
-Pilot skill "blacklist" is now a part of the scripts -Blank "modloader.lua" file is now in the script file to help with mod loadings -Added "GetFTLPilots" to pilots.lua for generating the Secret Pod pilot list. -Added access to Pawn:SetBoosted(bool) for the scripts

Advanced Edition is a free major content update that will be available on all platforms today!
The following is the primary change list, but there’s a lot of small bug-fixes and tweaks here and there.
Major Additions
5 New squads & 15 new squad achievements!
7 new Vek, 3 new Psions, & 10 new boss battles!
12 new missions & 3 new bonus mission goals!
4 New pilots & 10 new random pilot abilities!
39 New weapons & equipment!
2 new music tracks from composer Ben Prunty!
Even more challenging difficulty mode, Unfair Mode!
7 New Languages! (Arabic, Thai, Swedish, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, and Latin American Spanish)
Other Changes
Optional Content Toggles - All of the new content (enemies, pilot skills, etc) other than balance changes are possible to turn off if you would like the base-game content experience.
Weapon reactor usage reduced - We wanted to encourage players to immediately try out equipment they find, so we reduced the reactor power to equip most gear.
Store Changes - Since you can now instantly equip most weapons without needing an additional reactor core, the reputation cost to purchase weapons has increased by 1 and the store options are limited in the first 2 islands.
New weapon mechanic: KO effects - Certain weapons will trigger an additional effect if the primary target is killed by the attack.
New tile mechanic: Cracking - Certain weapons will cause the ground to crack. If the tile is damaged again, it will shatter, destroying the tile and anything standing on it!
New status effect: Boost - This will increase the next attack’s damage by 1. Highly effective for AoE attacks!
Unlocking Squads with Coins Change - The cost of unlocking squads with coins has been reduced to account for the extra squads.
Unfair Mode Tips
This mode is for veterans looking for even more of a challenge but it might require different strategies than you're used to.
There will be many more situations where damage is inevitable so it’ll be more important to take losses strategically - depending on the situation, it might be better to lose grid power, sacrifice a pilot, or fail a mission objective.
Grid power gains are doubled which means it’s much easier to pull back from the brink of defeat. Don’t give up after a few setbacks.
There is a limit to how many Vek can spawn so sometimes it’s more advantageous to leave some weak Vek alive rather than wiping them out early.

As the world continues to struggle against the coronavirus pandemic, Humble has launched the Heal Covid 19 Bundle to support a number of charities aiding the hardest hit countries such as Brazil and India as well as the global medical effort to save lives.
In total, you can get 35 different games, books, comics and software for just £15. All of the money raised will go to the charities Direct Relief, Doctors Without Borders, International Medical Corps and GiveIndia.
As for the specific contents of the bundle, it's mainly comprised of games that many would consider some of the best indie and AAA releases in recent years. Honestly, if you had someone completely fresh to PC gaming and wanted to show them the impressive diversity of games on offer this would be a terrific place to start.

re you looking for something new to play on your low end PC or laptop? You might be surprised by how great some of the best low-spec games look. Even though gaming laptops are more powerful than ever, we don't all have a laptop with a GTX 2080 in it. Some of us prefer a lighter, smaller notebook for life on-the-go, and sometimes that means giving up playing the most demanding PC games. Thankfully, in this age of bountiful indies and a huge classic library on Steam, there are still tons of fantastic low-spec PC games to pick from... Read more.

Sep 27, 2020 This feature was originally published in 2018 and has been lightly re-edited.
Roguelikes hold a fairly sizable niche in the PC gaming world today, and for good reason. Partially characterised by permadeath - meaning there are no mid-game saves - roguelikes challenge you to think carefully about every move you make, lest you die and get sent back to the beginning of your adventure.
This aspect of roguelikes has been creeping into other genres, such as the platformer with Spelunky, and tactical strategy games as seen in XCOM's Ironman mode. But Into the Breach is, arguably, the best implementation of permadeath in recent memory.
In Into the Breach, you play as a squad of mech pilots who travel between timelines to fight the Vek, an insectile alien species overrunning the vestiges of humanity. Fights play out on a grid-based battlefield where you must defend the civilian cities that power your mechs. On every turn, the enemy moves and telegraphs where it is about to attack, forcing you to react.

Another week, another round of free PC games from Epic. You can now grab Hitman and the Shadowrun Collection from the store, but what's up next week? Only one of the best strategy games out there - and while it's a repeat from a previous giveaway, Into the Breach is so darn good that we're not going to complain.
Into the Breach will be available to claim from the promotion page on September 3 at 8:00 PDT / 11:00 EDT / 16:00 BST. As always, you'll add the game to your cart, 'purchase' it for zero dollars, and it'll then remain in your library forever. Into the Breach was previously given away by Epic for 24 hours back in 2019, so if you missed out on that promotion here's your chance to make good.
Into the Breach comes from Subset Games, the studio behind FTL, and is another hypertough permadeath challenge. But Into the Breach splits the difference between XCOM and a puzzle game - it's turn-based strategy where you know all your opponent's moves ahead of time.
