Hello everyone!
It’s been a hot minute… okay, a looooong minute… since last time. We’ve been closely tracking your reports, so we're stepping in today to squash the most disruptive bugs weighing down your runs.
While our team is currently head-down cooking up the next Windblown Early Access update (launching later this month 🔥), we wanted to ensure our Dead Cells gang gets the love and care you deserve. This Steam patch focuses strictly on game stability, and we're actively working on dedicated console patches as we speak!
Please find the full breakdown below:
Crash Fixes
● Fixed the most common crash when starting the game by adding memory alignment checks to prevent data serialization issues on 32-bit systems. ● Fixed a null access crash when selecting Dracula's boss cell in Custom Mode while using a fixed number of activated boss cells. ● Fixed an issue where Wolf Trap failed to destroy both traps simultaneously, leading to subsequent null access errors down the line. ● Fixed a null access crash that occurred if the inventory was re-arranged mid-attack while using the Flint or Bone. ● Fixed narrative-driven crashes by adding stability null checks to the Doom Bringer speechdeck. ● Added internal cooldowns to most item-pickup and inventory management UIs. This prevents "can't replace weapon/active" racing conditions, closing out potential exploits and related game crashes.
Localization
● Regenerated texture sheets for Asian fonts to properly display previously missing glyphs and characters.
Linux-only
● Fixed controller issues on Linux by upgrading the SDL library to 2.32.10.
Thank you all for your incredible involvement and for continuing to share your feedback with us. Go enjoy those crash-free runs, see you next time! 💌

If you tuned into the Xbox Games Showcase during Summer Games Fest, you've already seen the good news: Castlevania: Belmont's Curse now has a release date!
The morning sun has vanquished the horrible wait: Rose Belmont will reclaim the Vampire Killer and take up the mantle on the 15th October! 🎉
When we first announced the project, we mentioned that Motion Twin had been involved in an advisory capacity during the development. Truth be told, our role was pretty humble; we occasionally shared feedback when Evil Empire wanted a second opinion! We're just grateful they let us tag along for the ride! 👉❤️👈 We've had a front-row seat watching Evil Empire’s team pour their hearts into this project for years, and we genuinely couldn't be happier for them. Honestly, we can't think of a better team to carry the Belmont legacy forward. 🦇

If you haven't already, please make sure to wishlist Castlevania: Belmont's Curse to get notified at launch, and show the team some love!

Hello everyone!
You all know how much Castlevania runs through the DNA of Dead Cells. It was our biggest inspiration, and the Return to Castlevania DLC was a dream come true for everyone involved.
Today, we are incredibly happy to announce thatEvil Empire — the studio that lovingly stewarded Dead Cells for years and added so much of the content you love — has developed a brand new Castlevania game in partnership with KONAMI!
We have watched them work in the shadows on this project for years, pouring their hearts, souls, and significant dedication into this legendary franchise. Crafting the next chapter of the series is a massive achievement — GG à vous :)
Our Humble Contribution
While this is Evil Empire’s show, you might have seen our little red star at the beginning of the video? 🤔
It was a little secret, but we are pleased to mention that Motion Twin acted as an Advisory Game Studio on the project. We were honored to add our humble stone to thecastle structure, offering our picky feedback whenever they gave us a shout over the past years.
Please join us in congratulating Evil Empire and KONAMI on this announcement. (links should be up soon)

Hey Everyone!
La Motion Week, our yearly event, is back! This time we’ve packed it (ribbon not included) with new merch, a fun collaboration, and abig anniversary…
That’s right, we’ve teamed up with the legendary YouToozto bring their love/hate relationship into the real world!
The Beheaded (ft. Serenade)
He’s back and better than ever! The Beheaded returns as a plushie, but this time he’s not alone. He comes armed with his beloved (and clingy) companion sword, Serenade!
The Queen
(First-Ever Merch!) At long last, Her Majesty is here! For the first time ever, you can get a Queen plushie to rule over your other plushies. We’re so excited to finally give her the royal treatment she deserves. And of course, true to form, both of these incredible plushies glow in the dark, ready for a night-time ambush of your senses.
Voxel Collab: The Characters You Love, Without the Dying
Okay, this one is a lot of fun!
Dying again and again… Sound familiar? If you’re ready for a break, what about a little chilling? The awesome folks at Color-A-Cube are bringing three of our characters to their world in a new FREE update!
The team there are basically wizards; they’ve managed to perfectly translate the very soul of the 2D pixel art into charming 3D voxel models that you can paint yourself.
You’ll get to enjoy coloring… or daubing:
The Beheaded (naturally)
The Merchant (still keep an eye on your wallet)
Conjunctivius (wink wink)
A super zen experience available on Steam and in VR.
It’s hard to believe it’s been a full year since Windblown launched into Early Access! To everyone who has taken the leap into the Vortex with us, we’re incredibly grateful.
To celebrate this milestone, we’re pushing out our 6th major content update,Lost & Altered. This huge update introduces a dangerous, brand-new biome to explore, along with a host of other tweaks and improvements.
As part of the anniversary celebration, we’ve also deepened the discount on the Dead Cells + Windblown bundle. It’s got that fast-paced, ‘just one more run’ energy you'll love, but this time you can bring friends. You know, so you can all die together.

When your beloved indie hits the mainstream in a big way, every player wants a say in what you do next. That was certainly the case for Motion Twin, the developer behind Dead Cells, which has been a mainstay on our list of the best roguelike games since its release in 2018. But where other developers look to the safer bet of a sequel in order to maximize excitement (no shade intended, Supergiant. Transistor 2 next?), Motion Twin went down a different path.

Dead Cells is a phenomenal game, a mighty feat of mechanical precision and environmental storytelling that captured the hearts of players across the world. Surpassing its reputation as one of the best roguelikes ever, it's regarded as one of the best PC games full stop. It's welcomed millions of players, boasts 97% positive feedback on Steam, and has been garnished with DLC for years after its release. However, further development was stopped last year, so we sat down with two developers from Motion Twin to find out why the studio left it behind.

Developer Motion Twin supported its hit roguelike Dead Cells for years before moving on to Windblown. The metroidvania grew exponentially through updates and successive pieces of DLC, but fans were still aggrieved when Motion Twin announced that it was focusing its efforts elsewhere. That's mostly because of the quality of the updates, each recontextualizing the game you thought you knew. However, the spirit of Dead Cells lives on through spiritual successors and now a crossover with its genre partner, BlazBlue Entropy Effect.
