◆◆◆New Game Details◆◆◆
◆ Characters
Gaul
A founding member and the vice-captain of the Rangers. He and his loyal Palico support the group's activities in the background. Highly knowledgeable about botany, he's skilled at creating combinations. His family has long been in service to Azuria, and he's extremely loyal to the king, having gained the king's trust in turn.
Murray
He's a member of Gaul's elite intelligence corps, and carries out investigations and communication duties under his orders.
Ogden
A true expert in monsters, having spent more than half his Rider career studying them. His knowledge is so deep, he's regarded as a walking Monsterpedia.
Kora
A founding member of the Rangers, along with Amara. An old hand with geological surveys, she's highly experienced in the use of bombs and gunpowder. She's never understood why Amara did what she did ten years ago, and joins the protagonist's journey in order to discover the truth of why Amara left Azuria.
Fiero
The loyal retainer of Vermeil's queen, he is instrumental in carrying out her will. In the shadows, he directs espionage units in various areas, trying to strengthen Vermeil's power by any means necessary. He comes to Azuria with Eleanor in order to present the idea of crossing the Meridian to Azuria's king, but is rejected.
Vandura
Ever since the covenant was formed after the civil war, he, a Wyverian, and his Magnamalo, Wardenfang, have guarded the gate at the Meridian. Seeing the protagonist and their Skyscale Rathalos, he is reminded of Amara from ten years ago.
Kol & the Canyne Ward
The leader of Sheparden, a village that reveres Canynes. Having lost their original home to the Encroachment, they've now settled near the Meridian. As the numbers of their Canyne wards decrease, they were prepared to accept the end of their way of life as they know it. However...
◆ The Monsties Bound in Kinship with Riders
Legia
Gaul's Monstie, a Legiana. It works alongside Gaul to support the protagonist's journey.
Chirpy
Ogden's Monstie, a Pukei-Pukei with a big appetite. So friendly to humans that it boasts a coterie of fans who enjoy petting its down.
Gravy
Kora's Monstie, a Gravios. Since it eats rocks, it's very well-suited to accompanying Kora on her geological surveys, in addition to normal Ranger duties.
◆ The Monsters the Protagonist will Face
Feral Yama Tsukami
This floating Elder Dragon is colossal enough to have an ecosystem of flora living on it. It consumes the earth and swallows forests whole as it wanders in search of rich soil. It's feared in Sheparden as "a force of nature." Rather than wandering about, this particular specimen has long resided in the Canalta Timberland. A portion of its body is crystallized.
◆ The Game System
Side Stories
Side stories are additional storylines centered around the protagonist and their fellow Rangers. With side stories spotlighting each of the protagonist's friends, you can get to know them more deeply. In addition, by completing side stories you can gain a variety of benefits for party gameplay, such as rewards useful in progressing the game, new weapons or Monsties for the Rangers, or the strengthening of their unique skills.
Character Creation
You'll begin the game by customizing your character in the character creator. Choose variables like body, hairstyle, and skin color to make the protagonist your own. Customization is also available during the course of the game, from the Rangers' base.
◆ Bonus for Linking Save Data
Players with save data from certain Monster Hunter series titles on their systems can obtain layered armor for the protagonist in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.

The embargo for Monster Hunter Wilds reviews has lifted ahead of its February 27 release, and the consensus is pretty positive. Wilds is within striking distance of a 90% score on both Metacritic and Open Critic, though there are rumblings that it may have been overly streamlined compared to prior games in the series—that was PC Gamer reviewer Lincoln Carpenter's primary critique in his otherwise very positive Monster Hunter Wilds review. Hey hunters,
How’s it going?
February is here, which means we are officially in the launch month of Monster Hunter Wilds! On February 28, your journey into the Forbidden Lands begins.
Now, to help ensure you have a satisfying, fun experience come launch, we’re pleased to share that the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark we’d previously mentioned we were looking into, is real, it’s ready and it’s live from right now for you to try!
With the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark, we want to help our PC players feel more confident about how their PC will run Monster Hunter Wilds.
In the next section, we’re going to explain what the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark is, how it works, as well as some important information and differences you’ll see between this and the Open Beta Test 1 and 2 experiences, so please take a moment to check it out.
Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark Breakdown!
The Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark will allow you to see how the near-launch version of the game will run on your rig, via watching a demo play out. Please note, this occurs via a demonstration, so you won’t actually be playing the Benchmark yourself, nor have access to Character Creation.
We were keen to create this for you, following the community feedback on performance and optimisation we saw from Open Beta Test 1. Now, here comes that important part we just mentioned:
Open Beta Test 1 was a much older version of the game’s build, and not representative of the current state of the full game’s optimisation when the beta occurred, nor what it is currently like now. Open Beta Test 2 will also be running on that same, old build, but with a bit more content included, such as Arkveld and Gypceros, so please don’t expect any performance differences there, nor anything we covered in the Pre-Launch Community Update (which we’ll link at the end of this post). Those improvements and adjustments, including optimisation and weapon changes, will be in the game Day 1 at launch.
This means that neither Open Beta Test 1 or 2 are representative of the experience you’ll have when the game launches, so please don’t base your optimisation / performance expectations on those. Instead, please download and give the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark a spin and you’ll get a much more accurate and reliable insight into how your PC will run the game at launch.
General Info
You can download the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark directly from Steam with the link below:
Benchmark Flow: Title Screen -> Performance check whilst displaying a demonstration -> Results screen.
A score will be provided based on the performance of your PC (see below for gradings).
Note: There’s no character creation available.
The Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark isn’t just one setting though, we recommend using the Options menu to adjust game, graphics, audio and language settings to try out different combinations, or most accurately reflect your preferred settings come launch.
There’s also a Loop setting that can be used to automatically rerun the benchmark. When it’s set to ON, the benchmark will automatically rerun after 1 minutes have passed on the results screen.
Please be aware that the Option menu you see in the Benchmark is not exactly the same as the launch version, also, any settings you adjust here won’t be transferred into the main game.
It’s worth noting that the benchmark may not be able to run properly if your computer does not meet Monster Hunter Wilds minimum requirements, which are available on the Store page!
And one last, important point to share with you before we wrap up this post. The Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark does not guarantee the performance of your system for Monster Hunter Wilds, but does give you better insight and information, especially when compared to playing Open Betas 1 and 2.
A way to experience the state of optimisation for your PC in the production version of the game.
It’s adjustable to give you information that reflects your preferred settings choices.
The OBT 1 & 2 builds are old and do not reflect the current state of optimisation and performance.
The OBT 2 build does not include any of the Pre-Launch Community Update improvements, they’re coming Day 1 at launch.
That pretty much wraps things up, all that’s left is for those of you that want to try the benchmark ahead of launch, is to download it and give it a go!
If you had unexpected performance issues in the Open Beta Test, or just want to make sure you’re PC is ready to rock, we highly recommend running the Benchmark and watching the demo play through to get your results!
Quest Complete – We’ll See You Next Time!
There we have it, the benchmark is real and it’s ready for you!
As mentioned earlier, for those of you who haven’t yet seen the Pre-Launch Community Update news, where Monster Hunter Wilds director, Yuya Tokuda, took us through a range of improvements and adjustments coming to the game for launch, from performance to weapons, hitstop and more, you can watch it on our official YouTube channel below:
If you’ve liked what you’ve seen today and/or you’ve got a smile on your face after using the benchmark, chucking down a pre-order will not only support us ahead of launch, but also snag you the following goodies:
Monster Hunter Wilds: 6th Trailer | Into the Iceshard Cliffs — Introducing the new locale "Iceshard Cliffs" and the peculiar Wudwud you'll encounter there. Iceshard Cliffs A frigid locale swept with snowy blizzards. Rove A Wudwud who wanders the wilds far from his home. — Monster

— Introducing the new locale "Iceshard Cliffs" and the peculiar Wudwud you'll encounter there.
Iceshard Cliffs
A frigid locale swept with snowy blizzards.
Rove
A Wudwud who wanders the wilds far from his home.
— Monsters of the Iceshard Cliffs
Hirabami
Leviathans that inhabit the Iceshard Cliffs. They have sharp, pincer-like tails and peculiar membranes on their necks that catch the wind and keep them aloft.
Nerscylla
Making their series return, these monsters are Temnocerans that weave vast, sticky webs across their territory. Once they've cornered their prey, they utilize their pincer-like jaws to finish them off.
Gore Magala
This fan-favorite monster is back. Please look forward to finding out when and how it will make its reappearance.
Monster Hunter Wilds' Second Open Beta Test will feature the game's flagship monster Arkveld!
As with the first OBT held in November last year, the second OBT will include Character Creation, the Story Trial, and the Doshaguma Hunt. After completing the Doshaguma Hunt, you'll also be able to explore the Windward Plains and encounter the various creatures that inhabit its ecosystem. Unique to the OBT2, hunters will now be able to take on a monster well-known throughout the series, the bird wyvern Gypceros. You'll also be able to take on the game's flagship monster Arkveld in a high difficulty quest specially tailored for the OBT2. We encourage experienced hunters who are confident in their skills to take on this challenge.
Access to the Base Camp Training Area
Try out each weapon and get a feel for the various weapon actions in the Training Area. However, please be aware that some weapon specifications will differ from the retail version.
Expanded Multiplayer Features
The OBT2 will expand some online multiplayer features, adding Private Lobbies and Online Single Player.

Hey hunters,
How’s it going?
We’re here today to share with you the Monster Hunter Wilds – Pre-Launch Community Update! Since November’s Open Beta Test, the team have been busy reviewing the feedback we’d received and working hard to further improve the quality of the full game in-time for launch day.
Now that we’re ready to share the details with you, including improvements and adjustments to performance, weapons, game mechanics, multiplayer functionality and more, we felt how better to hear it than directly from the team!
Below you’ll be able to watch our Pre-Launch Community Update broadcast, where the Community Team are joined by Monster Hunter Wilds director, Yuya Tokuda and his translator, Patrick, who go into all the juicy details.
The event comes in at a little over an hour and is packed full of important info that we’ve been keen to share with you! We’ve also included a text summary of the content below the video if you’d like a quicker read instead, however for the fully comprehensive update, featuring all of the content, video clips, context and discussions, we’d recommend watching the broadcast!
Our Update To You, The Community!

Please note, everything in this broadcast, as well as the summary text below is not final, representing work in progress and is subject to change. Also, the content revealed during the event does not cover everything the team is currently working on as we approach launch.
The Summary!
For those of you who prefer a written format, below you’ll find a summary of a lot of the points that were discussed during the event. But, they are in chronological order, so if you find a particular topic you’d like more info about, you’ll be able to find it pretty quickly in the broadcast if you take a look!

Performance was the first topic we addressed, knowing this one to be an important one for the community. We covered all platforms, including PC, which you’ll see alongside one of the consoles below:
What does this mean in relation to Steam? The team are working on improving the performance of the Steam version, including frame rate, even when using the same equipment specs that you may have used in the Open Beta Test, although it may vary depending on your setup.
We’re also keen to share a very recent development that the team may be able to lower the recommended graphics board specs a little bit more! Once we’ve got accurate information and can lock this in, we’ll release any info on our official website and let you know!
We also saw that some of you were concerned as to whether your rig would be powerful enough to run Wilds when it launches, so to hopefully help those of you with questions out, we shared that the team are currently considering releasing a benchmark tool, if possible. As above, we’ll keep you looped in on any further details here.
Hitstop & Friendly Fire
Hitstop, making your weapons and overall impact of the game’s weapons feel powerful. During the beta we saw comments that players felt could have a little more “oomph”, so the team looked into it and made some tweaks!
Weapons will now feel more responsive when landing attacks, especially with big moves and finishers for many weapons types.
Director Tokuda shared that the reason for Hitstop initially being less impactful in the beta was due to feedback we’d received from players outside of Japan when World launched was that it was too strong / weighty, however it seems we had the opposite with the Wilds beta! He was deeply moved to think that the weighty action that is the hallmark of Monster Hunter has now been widely accepted around the world!
There’s even an example of this in the broadcast with the Great Sword’s True Charged Slash unleashing a truly meaty chop!
Regarding Friendly Fire, the team, even before the beta, had decided they wanted to tone it down some of its effects, even though this wasn’t fully reflected in the beta build.
Actions such as the Gunlance’s Wyvern Fire and the Hammer’s Upswing have had their impact on other hunters toned down. The Gunlance’s Wyvern Fire was already toned down in this regard during the Open Beta Test, but the Hammer’s Upswing adjustments will be live in the launch version of the game. So, in a nutshell, whilst you won’t send allies flying, they’ll still be briefly knocked off their feet.
The team would like to avoid novice players unintentionally giving their friends and fellow hunters big bumps without knowing, potentially causing some players to avoid multiplayer due to the disruptions these actions caused them in a hunt. We hope this change will bring new and experienced hunters together to have a smoother experience in multiplayer.
Monster Area Movement
Something we encountered ourselves and saw within the community was that monsters seemed to be moving locations very often during the beta. This wasn’t intentional and was actually a glitch where some points were not fully adjusted, leading the monsters to change areas more frequently than they should.
This has now been adjusted in the launch version of the game, so depending on how the hunt goes, you can expect the change frequency to be closer to that of Monster Hunter: World!
Having said that, monsters belonging to the upper echelon of the ecosystem often have nests away from your base camp, deep in the field. So, when tackling these monsters, they may still move across the locale significantly, especially when in a weakened state.
But in these cases, if you’ve placed your Pop-Up Camps in suitable locations that corresponds to the habitat of the monster you’d like to hunt, you can simply fast travel to get there ahead of time.
Weapon Adjustments – Overview
Good news, hunters, multiple weapons have already received adjustments for launch, with Insect Glaive, Lance, Switch Axe and Sword & Shield being the weapon types you’ll notice the most differences with at launch.
The Open Beta Test also had a limited range of attributes and skills available, but the full game has been adjusted to balance for the entire content, including endgame!
P.S. The following weapons mentioned all have example video clips in the event broadcast!
Weapon Adjustments – Insect Glaive
Out of all the weapons, it’d be fair to say the Insect Glaive has been receiving the most attention, so let’s start here:
Even prior to the Open Beta Test, from the gameplay hands-on opportunities at Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show, we saw that Insect Glaive users were disappointed that the weapon no longer had its iconic Vaulting Dance. Whilst we didn’t have time to add it back in the beta version, it’ll be there in all its glory come launch!
Some extra tweaks have also been made to give Insect Glaive players a few more options to play with, as you can see in the image above!
Weapon Adjustments – Lance
The Lance has received some adjustments to give more control to the player over their available options in the hunt, allowing Lance users to further express their weapon’s identity.
Director Tokuda stated that with the Lance, he wanted to give it more options than in past titles, using a variety of guards and movements. However, in doing so it removed the option for Lance users to wait and see what the monster does and react accordingly, narrowing the actions open to them and making it feel a bit monotonous to play.
But fear not, that has been changed! The Counter Thrust from past games has returned as a Charge Counter whilst guarding. You’ll also be able choose a counterattack, such as Power Guard, which charge level changes depending on the power of the guarded attack, as well as another new action which can be done from guarding or Power Guard!
The team have also made further adjustments to expand the range of what you can do whilst following up on what you could do in past games, such as removing unintuitive chained moves and speeding up the cancellation timing of guard dashes that are chained during combos.
We’re feeling good about this as Kaname Fujioka, Executive Director & Art Director on Monster Hunter Wilds, who is an avid Lance main, has been telling us it feels much better now.
Weapon Adjustments – Switch Axe
Overall, the Switch Axe has been significantly changed from what you may have experienced in the Open Beta Test.
In a nutshell, the basic loop of charging the gauge in Axe Mode and releasing it in Sword Mode is the same, but we’ve alleviated some of the difficulty in of Charging in Axe Mode. Plus, Sword Mode has been adjusted to be more powerful and responsive to match its gauge consumption.
You’ll really notice this with Full Release Slash in both its feel and power, as is appropriate for a finisher move!
We’ve also made the weapon easier to handle by adjusting moves that were difficult to use, such as increasing the usability of Counter Rising Slash in Sword Mode, as well as shorting the animation lock after a Focus Strike.
Weapon Adjustments – Sword & Shield
The Sword & Shield has also seen some major adjustments, including the overall feel of the sword.
The first major point for this weapon is that Rising Slash can now be performed whilst guarding. In addition, there’s been extensive modifications made to the basic combos with the triangle / Y button, such as Chop and Side Slashes, whilst moving, and to Perfect Rush to improve response, damage, hitstop and more!
Weapon Adjustments – Other Weapons
For the other weapon types, we’ll also be broadly adjusting their values in anticipation for endgame content, taking into account their individual parameters and skills. As part of this process, we plan to make adjustments to areas that were not balanced as intended, or where unintended weapon type disparities were created.
What does this mean? Well, adjustments are being made with an emphasis on whether the concept and vision of each weapon type is as intended, with our direction being to raise the low, rather than lower the high, whilst also eliminating the weapon type disparity as much as possible.
The Bow is one such example of this, where we saw the damage output of the weapon being heavily biased towards Tracers and Focus Strike attacks. This has now been adjusted by increasing the power of attacks such as normal shots and Arc Shots, the various transitions and responses being improved to ensure that other actions can also deal meaningful damage. Ultimately, giving more varied gameplay styles for the Bow user!
As you can see in the image, we’ve also changed the behaviour of Focus Strike for the Bow so that it locks onto wounds one by one, instead of all of them at once.
Much like the other weapons, there’s a video clip for this in the broadcast, so feel free to go check it out!
Overall, we’ve made adjustments to all weapons with a view of broadening their appeal and making them a good choice for players and their preferred playstyles, and not just making them less powerful.
Skill Builds!
Speaking of weapons, we’ve got more information on their new role within building your skills and set!
Until now, only armour has been equipped with skills, but with Wilds and the ability to take two different weapons into the hunt, it was inevitable that the wearer would have to choose a weapon type that matched their armour, or face difficulties to match their armour with the right weapon type.
So, to address the issue of skill builds having wasted skills, or losing effectiveness from a weapon switch, skills that traditionally are tied to weapons, such as “Attack” and “Guard” are now attached to weapons instead of armour, with armour now focusing on supplementary effects, such as “Speed Eating” etc instead.
The skills you find on your weapons don’t disappear when you upgrade them either, quite the opposite in-fact! Upgrading your weapons can enhance the existing skill’s effect, increase the total number of skills it has, or even both!
But wait, there’s even more! The later the weapon, the more slots you’ll have for decorations to attach more weapon skills, allowing you to really build the skills to your liking.
We’ve got some pictures below for you see it in action:
One skill!
Two skills!
A little more before we finish!
