With Hideki Kamiya no longer working at PlatinumGames, the Bayonetta series will likely move on without him - and he might be taking his ideas for more games "to the grave."
Back in September, the PlatinumGames co-founder announced that he would be leaving the studio after 16 years of developing games there. A month later, in October, the block-button-loving dev shared that he'll be producing videos for a YouTube channel, as he's not actually allowed to work on games in any capacity for the next year. Kamiya's recent video saw him responding to fan questions, where he spoke about the future of the Bayonetta series.
"I worked on Bayonetta 1, 2, 3 and Origins. I've talked about this in various interviews, that the Bayonetta series would consist of a total of nine episodes, and that I wanted to grow the franchise as the Bayonetta 'Saga', but it seems like I may have to take the full saga to the grave with me," shared Kamiya. He also spoke of he doesn't own the Bayonetta IP, and that he supposes "those who do will probably keep it going." The most recent entry in the series was the prequel game Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, which explored the titular character's past in a story-book-like fashion. Where Bayonetta might head next is anyone's guess now though.

Titled "Let's ask Kamiya! - Why'd he quit? What are his plans?", it's a tongue-in-cheek message to fans of the former designer about what happened. In the video he explains the reasons for his departure and what his plans are, all while sat in a park with his stuff packed in a cardboard box.
Through English captions on the video, us English speaking fans can catch up on all the details. He jokes:"I am Hideki Kamiya, unemployed. Welcome to my channel. I'm out of a job. Please subscribe."

Earlier today, PlatinumGames shared a statement on Twitter that Hideki Kamiya will be leaving the studio in October. "We regret to announce that Hideki Kamiya will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023," reads the statement. "We are truly grateful for his creative ideas, leadership, and contribution to the growth of PlatinumGames from our start-up to this very day. We believe that he will continue to succeed in his future endeavours as a game creator. We are looking forward to seeing the game industry grow into a better place with him in it. We wish him all the best for the future!"
Outside of being a key lead on numerous PlatinumGame titles, where he directed games like Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101, he was also one of the four founders of the studio, as well as the current vice president. Kamiya shared a brief statement on Twitter himself, where he wrote "This came after a lot of consideration based on my own beliefs. and was by no means an easy decision to make. However, I feel this outcome is for the best. I will continue to create in my Hideki Kamiya way. I hope you'll keep your eyes peeled."

It's been known for a little while that for whatever reason, Taylor would not be reprising her role as the now pretty iconic witch, as she essentially said as such last year. Earlier this month it was confirmed that prolific voice actor Jennifer Hale would be taking over the role, with the game's director Yusuke Miyata saying that, "various overlapping circumstances made it difficult for Hellena Taylor to reprise her role." But now Taylor has posted a series of videos on her personal Twitter where she claims that she ultimately had to decline returning due to only being offered $4000 for the performance.
"I am asking the fans to boycott [Bayonetta 3], and instead spend the money that you would have spent on this game donating it to charity," Taylor asked of fans in the first of four videos she posted on Twitter yesterday, October 15. "I didn't want the world. I didn't ask for too much. I was just asking for a decent, dignified, living wage. What they did was legal, but it was immoral."

We haven't heard much about Bayonetta 3 since it was announced a few years ago. Developer PlatinumGames hopes to change that this year, and reveal some other projects besides.
In a conversation between Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya and Hamster Corporation CEO Satoshi Hamada as part of Hamster's Arcade Archives series (ta, Nintendo Everything), Kamiya stated he'd like to give a substantial update this year, on Bayonetta, and more besides. "We've been working on new stuff like Bayonetta 3, not that I can say too much, but I hope we can give an update during the year," He said, adding: "And give updates on a few more unannounced projects too. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say that, but I said it anyway."
Bayonetta 3 was announced at The Game Awards 2017, with nary a tangible progress report since. Bayonetta 2 came out for the WiiU in 2013, and Bayonetta 3 is an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch. The unannounced games are anyone's guess. As of now, PlatinumGames has two other releases in the works: Project GG, the third in Kamiya's superhero trilogy, following Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101, and Babylon's Fall, a large-scale action-adventure game being published by Square-Enix.

Platinum Games’ weird superhero-morphing adventure has a free two-hour demo out now on Steam, so perhaps that will distract from the fact we’re in the final month of this damned year. You can play Bayonetta in it as well, which is cool.

What s so spectacular about these fighters, then? It s Spectacle Fighters, a genre of mostly third-person action games that focuses on the visual spectacle of combat above all else. These are games designed to make you both feel and look like a badass through a huge range of freedom in combat options. They also tend to rate your performance with a score, rank or grade of some kind, usually from D through to S.

It'd be a good one to play if you just finished Devil May Cry 5, I reckon.
