In December 2022, Steam Deck was finally released in Japan, and I was able to get my own Deck. I tested "Back in 1995" on the Deck, but there are a few tricks to set it up, so I would like to share some tips with everyone. Unfortunately, it is not possible to update the game because it is very difficult to reconstruct the old development environment, but you can play the game comfortably if you follow the following steps.
First, after starting the game and when the opening scene is finished, press the Y button to open the menu screen and use LB/RB to enter the system screen.
We strongly recommend using the D-pad instead of the analog stick to control the characters in this title. While playing with Steam Deck, you can play with D-pad by setting the "DS4_Dpad" to the Move Axis on the system screen.
After changing the Move Axis setting, the Enter key must be entered. In the case of using a Steam Deck, please call up the virtual keyboard by pressing the "Steam button + X button" and then press R2 as the Enter key.
Pressing the R2 button here will save the changes. With this setting, you can fully enjoy the "nonfree" Tank-control that this title is known for, even on Steam Deck.
Regarding the frame rate, it is reduced internally even if the display of this title is 60 FPS, but if FSR is enabled, the image will be unnecessarily smooth, and there is a risk of unintended effects. Therefore, it is recommended to turn off FSR. We apologize once again for not being able to update the game.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the fans who have purchased this title. I have already moved away from developing PS1-style games and am working on a completely different theme, but in the nearly six years since the release of this game, the number of PS1-ish games has grown by a factor of 200! This is great, and I think we can almost call this a new genre. "Back in 1995" was a small game in the market, but we are happy that it may have made history as a first step.
