Whelp, my first Steam Next Fest is underway. I'm already getting good feedback in the Feedback Forum . I've pushed out a few incremental changes since the demo started: Menu style has been updated to match the theme of the rest of the UI elements. It's minimal right now, and clea
Been a while. This update started out with trying to pin down some performance issues on the Steam Deck. To that end, I made a test scene wherein one can add as many asteroids and lightning bolts to the screen as one likes, then press a button to have all the asteroids blow up an
Most of the particle systems have been converted into the new WraparoundGPUParticles2D system. Prior to this and just like the Sprite2D objects I mentioned in the last update, I was using nine copies of any particle system that got attached to an asteroid. Like the three particle
This is a very minor update from a gameplay perspective. I did a lot of work today on optimizing some of the gnarlier parts of the game, specifically the way I handle the toroidal world. Previously, I had 9 full copies of each asteroid arranged in a 3x3 grid with one screen separ
Lotta changes in this one. There have been a few releases to the beta channel that I tested on my Steam Deck before rejecting them, hence the jump in version numbers. Upgrades now have icons that indicate at a glance what type of upgrade they are. The weapon/equipment semicircle
Mostly cosmetic changes here: Ammo Gauges now animate in and out when ship spawns/is destroyed Placeholder circles on the upgrade cards are color coded to match the HUD color of what they upgrade Additional shotgun upgrade added, only available after upgrading shotgun six times S
Far, far too many changes to list here. If I were less lazy, this would be a minor version bump and not just a patch. Perhaps I'll let a picture do the introduction for me. I've added in the first roguelike features. In between each stage, you'll have a choice of upgrades. Curren
See v0.1.60-alpha, but this time I'm actually including the steam_api.dll file on windows builds. For real.
Unbeknownst to me (because I develop on a Linux workstation and can't always test a Windows build), the Steam integration was broken on Windows. The game still ran and was playable, but the end of game flow that uploads the player's score and shows the current leaderboard didn't
Cleaned up how AnimatedWindows work Made AnimatedWindows previewable in the Godot editor Converted all menu subsections to AnimatedWindows Included .txt files in export options so that changes to text files (credits, help section) get published Cleaned up some menu code, adding a
Merged the multiplier timeout progress bar with the multiplier display Cleaned up some redundant elements on the HUD Merging the multiplier displays required a custom shader, which took less time than I expected it would. I can't take credit for this idea; it came from one of my
Making some small, incremental changes in preparation for the roguelike features. Experimented with particle effects for lightning gun Add equipment slot objects to hold ship configuration Begin work to remove weapon bank system Fine tune debug logging to allow for compile-time m
Ammo/special recharge meters now follow the ship for better UX. Experimental feature, feedback wanted. Revenge handler no longer shows revenge failed animation as part of game over sequence Hit streak pip animation changed to particle effects due to feedback that the old effects
Changes to leaderboard display (cleaned up formatting, added field for stage reached, where available) Enable Vulkan shader baking, so initial startup on Vulkan renderers should be faster and with less stuttering Added tip window on startup, used to allow asteroid scenes to fully
Leaderboard jankiness removed I had been using Godot's AnimationPlayer to animate the opening and closing of the leaderboard, and in an attempt to extend that easily to other and future menu sections I attempted to put all of the animation into an abstract scene with code that wo
Fix an issue with scoring In order for the scoring system to be both flexible and able to present the floating numbers where an asteroid gets destroyed, it's implemented as a series of modifier functions in a list. Currently, the hit streak multiplier is the only one implemented.
Changelog: Re-enable analog thruster control (default is left stick up) Lots of UI juice work, though I then broke some of it while trying to generalize it Main menu animates open and close Game over screen animates, then opens the leaderboard window Gamepad B button bound to ui_
