Hey, everybody!
We know that some people are on the verge of getting Tanzia, but they'd like to try it first. So we've just released a Tanzia FREE DEMO on Steam!

The demo lets you play until the Docks chapter, so you'll get the chance to fight 2 mini bosses and upgrade your gear, check some sidequests and even one of the comic books!
Also your demo savegames will transfer to the full version if you upgrade, so don't worry about losing your progress!
If you haven't bought the game yet, feel free to try the demo, and if you already have the game, please tell everyone you know!
We've also updated the main version of the game with some new stuff, a few bugfixes, and also some things our players requested.
Some of the main changes are:
-Added "kid" difficulty, so it's easier for the young ones to complete the game and enjoy the full story.
-Increased the strafe and strafe jump speed.
-Added super widescreen resolutions.
-Added more key remap options (equipment, spellbook, etc).
Let us know what you think in the comments or in our Discord channel!

After 2 years in Early Access (and over 5 years of development time!), we're finally ready to release Tanzia, IN A WEEK! March 28th is the day!

Since April 2017 when Tanzia was released in Early Access (and also later on Nintendo Switch), we listened to our players –to those who loved the game, and especially to those who hated it.
We took a long hard look at what we had and decided to improve and polish every single area of the game: the animations, melee combat, spells, gem system, crafting...
(Please read our prior post for more detail on some of the changes)
So the players who loved the old systems will now have a lot of new things to discover and master, and those who dismissed it then can now give it a fresh look, and hopefully change their minds.
To celebrate the launch, we made two new mini trailers to showcase the combat and exploration aspects of Tanzia. Here they are:

Those who already own the game can try the beta on Steam and check out the new content right now. On March 28th the full game will unlock for everyone!
We're also working on updating the Switch build with all this new content and also the localizations.
We want to thank everyone who supported us during this long development time, all the people who made LetsPlays of the beta/EA builds, those who after all this time still asks us regularly how the game is doing, and all the friends we made along the way!
Thank you!

Hey everyone!
After we released on Switch and Steam Early Access, we took all the feedback we received to heart. We heard it all, comments about melee being weak, people not liking the floating combat text, the animations being too generic...
We know it took a long time to fix all that, but hopefully when you see all the new stuff we added to Tanzia, you'll forgive us! : )
So let me walk you through some of the biggest changes.
We remade most of the main character's animations, everything from run, jump, directional damage, spellcasting, etc. We now even have proper walk, strafe and jump melee animations and directional spellcasting!
Everything looks new and fresh!

Check out my fancy new fall animation!
We've spent a lot of time improving melee combat and combat in general. The hits are sharper, more impactful, and more responsive with directional damage animations, subtle screen shakes and controller vibrations. You can feel every impact, and you can see the enemies reacting accordingly. You're still a shaman, and spells will always be your main form of attack, but now you won't feel like a wimp when out of mana.
We did a major revision on gems. We added several new artifact gems, remade the effects on some that were previously not super useful, and made all of them drop sooner (no Great Volcano gem drops anymore).
There's a new NPC at The Docks who tells you what every artifact gem actually does (it used to be trial and error, you needed to test each gem to see its effect).
We also made a full set of gems called "Eye of the ..." which actually improve your spells! You can get a bigger fireball, faster Ice Shard, monstrous Fire Totems, and a killer Thunderclap!

The Giant Fire Totems to the right are the improved versions you get with the Eye Of The Summoner Gem.
The new Alchemist's Gem gives you the possibility to craft improved versions of potions.
And now we have a portable Jeweler's Kit that lets you switch your gems anytime!
We've improved some of the spell FX. More importantly we revamped the spells at the Voodoo Camp. Fear is now a point-blank AOE spell like Thunderclap. Web Totem has been removed entirely and replaced with my new favorite spell, Raise Dead! With it you get your own posse of freshly deceased monsters to follow you around, killing everything in your way. In normal use you only get 3 of them, but just imagine mixing it up with Mako's Rage... you can get a whole army!

You don't have to imagine it anymore, check out my beautiful army of the dead!
You can now show the world how good you are at Tanzia!
We already had one quest which gives you a full digital comic book as a reward, but now we have another comic with even more backstory, and you can get it right away at The Village!
We have tons of little improvements we're not mentioning in detail here, but expect tweaked loot locations, monsters showing directional damage, the ability to remove floating text, more items to loot, better tutorial windows for each control type, improved controller support, no more cooldown for potions, new FX for some of the spells, monsters now have hitboxes instead of infinite reach and bug fixes galore!

New Fireball FX!
This version is available to everyone right now in the beta branch. You might run into a bug or ten, so this is only for the adventurous folk out there.
We have a Discord channel were you can post about any bugs you find in the beta, or if you just want to talk to us. We're friendly!
As we mentioned before, Tanzia's final price will be $19.99, right now you can buy it at $14.99 during EA, but in order to be able to feature a launch discount, we need to increase the price at least 30 days before the full release.
You have until Friday, February 8th to buy it at $14.99, after that we're increasing it to $19.99, so it's a great time to buy Tanzia with a big discount!
We're working on a release candidate now and we'll announce the full release date soon. Stay tuned for any updates!
Thank you for reading!

Hey everyone!
Just wanted to make a quick announcement to let you know what we're up to!
We promised to have the Steam build ready really close to the Switch launch, but after releasing on the Nintendo portable we received a lot of feedback. Most of it was great, people loved the game and the story. But at the same time some people commented on melee, and how it wasn't up to par with the rest of the game.
So we've decided to revamp melee to make it as awesome as the rest of the game.
This means the full version of Tanzia needs a little more time in the oven...
But as promised, you can access the beta build on Steam right now, and play what's practically the same content as we have on Switch!
If you want to play the beta content right now, this is what you need to do:
/On your Steam library, right click on Tanzia, select "properties".
/Go to the "Betas" tab
/On the dropdown menu select "beta"
/Close the properties window and let Tanzia update.
Now Tanzia on your library should say "Tanzia [beta]". You can start playing the beta! : )
We're really sorry about all the delays, but as you know we're only two guys working full time on Tanzia, and only one of us is a programmer!
Thank you for being patient!
If you have any questions for us or if you want to chat about the details of Tanzia, drop by our Discord.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Jason (our lead designer, Tanzia's mastermind) wants to give away his boxed, mint condition, still with that new console smell, Nintendo 64!
OMG!!! A NINTENDO Sixty-FOOOOOOOOOOUR!!!! : O

In Jason's own words: "I've always loved comics and video games. I'm also a bit of a collector. A few years ago I bought a mint condition Nintendo 64 still in the original box. I've decided to give it away. I'm reluctant to give it up, but with Tanzia launching on Switch, this seems like a good time."

just look at this beauty!

OMG! So new and untouched!
We want to make a little game out of it, so here's the deal:
Easy right?
Next week we're going to pick a winner! And that Winner can be YOU!

Hey all,
You might have already heard that we have a couple of Tanzia comics. The story is a big focus in Tanzia and we had a lot of fun creating and telling it. So we had the idea that comics would let us focus on specific parts of the story in more detail. Also Saige and I always wanted to make a comic book :) The first comic tells the story of Grandfather Mako's discovery of Arcanity and his original battle with The Skeleton King. The 2nd comic continues later some years after the first and fills in some details about Grandfather's disappearance. I'm really happy with how both comics came out. I wish we had the time and resources to do more. I had so much fun with them honestly after doing the first 2 comics I wanted to make a series of 10 or 20 comic books that tells the whole story arc of Grandfather and The Young Hero.

Tanzia #1 and #2 covers.
The 2nd comic unlocks in game when you collect all of the Lost Pages of Grandfather's Journal.

A panel from Tanzia #1
The 1st comic you can get right now if you pre-order Tanzia on either Steam or Nintendo Switch. Just forward your digital receipt to [email protected] and we'll send you the 1st comic as a PDF file. If you can't find the receipt, snap a screenshot of Tanzia in your game library and email that to us. You also get a discount for buying the game early in most regions (We had an issue setting up the store for Nintendo of Europe and couldn't get the discount set up in time there.)

Taken from Tanzia #2
I'm anxious to hear what everyone thinks of the first comic. So pre-order Tanzia now and email that receipt to us. Then let us know right here if you liked it.
-Jason

"But Mr Game Dev guy, I'm reading this on Steam, I don't have a fancy Nintendo Switch!" you might be saying, and to that we reply "We have Steam news too!" : D
So here's the Nintendo Switch news:
It's almost here!

I always keep a pen around so the boss thinks I'm busy
And the Steam news:
Now that we're so close to the full launch we want to thank everyone that believed in our game and got it in Early Access so long ago. We've been working on it all this time to make it as awesome as possible, so we really hope you're going to love it!

Hey everyone!
We have some big news we want to share with you.
First of all, the Steam version of Tanzia is coming along fine, we're finishing the ending area, working on some localizations and polishing the whole game so it looks awesome at launch.
Also, some news we're really excited about: Tanzia is also coming to the Nintendo Switch!
A very early mockup of what touch controls could look like on the Switch.
That also sadly means that the Steam version of Tanzia needs to be pushed back a little bit : (
We've been given the opportunity to launch on the Switch in the coming months, and to be able to make it, we need to focus 100% on that build. Since we're developing the game using Unity3D, improvements to the Switch version will also be reflected on the Steam build. So you'll see gamepad control improvements, faster loading and smoother scene transitions, higher frame rates, and more!
Pricing & Comic Books.
At first we planned on having a regular $15 edition of Tanzia, and then a $20 Special Edition with comic books and additional content, but we decided to include that comic book in-game as an unlockable (remember those bottles at the beach? Yeah, those will unlock the comic book in the future) and have a regular and beefier normal edition at $20.
So Tanzia for Steam and NIntendo Switch will be $20 at launch. However, as a thank you to the people supporting us right now, we're keeping the $15 price during Early Access!
So if you're on the fence about buying the game now or after the full launch, get it now and save $5. You can also tell your hipster friends you were into Tanzia before it was even launched, and that's priceless!
So here's today's news in bullet point form:
Thank you everyone for being so patient and understanding!

So far you´ve been running around beautiful beaches with sunny skies, facing not so difficult enemies, sailing boats, having a breezy time... THAT'S OVER!
This update will finally let you open the mysterious courtyard door.
What will you find there? Death probably, but also a way into the Ancient Temple. So forget about those beautiful sunny beaches. This is the first step into the Skeleton King's lair, and nothing's going to be the same once you take it.
Stock up on potions, max your gear, level up and learn all the spells you can. You're going to need it all to survive!
Full changelog for build #3219 below:
8/16/2017 P4 #3219
-Open the Temple Ruins courtyard and The Ancient Temple.
-fix a bug preventing you from equipping fear with a gamepad.
-set quest items to disallow critical loot.
-redo collision on Bear Island so you can walk into the shallow beach areas.
-fix a bug where inventory counts sometimes are showing on empty slots due to UILocalize component overwriting empty text on UILabel.
-add missing reverb and fog volumes to library.
-fix portrait camera bugs on some mobs.
-add sound fx to doors and gates in Temple Ruins, Ancient Temple, and Great Volcano.
-collision optimizations for all mobs.
-pathing fixes and optimizations in Emuri Village.

Since launching on Early Access we've heard two main complains: the kill 10 Akiri birds in 10 seconds quest is too hard, and the kill 3 turtles with 1 fireball one is frustrating.
"boom shakalaka"
Oh no! There's a timer!
We love the first Akiri Birds quest, we think it's a good challenge and while being hard, it used to give players the tools they need to face the rest of the game. So when we were watching LetsPlay videos or streams, we'd see them dying a few times on it, but then they'd go on and kill all the skeletons at the Docks in one try.
But we also saw a lot of people experiencing that quest as a literal wall. They'd just die over and over again, getting super frustrated in the process, and sometimes simply quitting the game since they saw no way around it.
So instead of asking you to kill 10 birds in 10 seconds, now the quest only asks you to kill more than 1 bird with 1 attack.
"Sorry about the super hard quest, dude!"
Wording is key here, since the player needs to do pretty much the same thing (get gold by killing a few birds or gathering reagents and then selling them to buy the fireball spell, learn said spell, and then roast some more birds with it).
Except that before, by giving players a timer, we were making them throw caution to the wind, and they'd go right in among all the birds, aggroing them all at the same time, but without the proper tools to win the fight.
Now without the timer we're hoping that they'll go "My staff and Ice Shard can only attack 1 bird at a time, so the only way to go is to buy the Fireball spell" instead of "I'm sure there's a way to kill 10 of these guys in 10 seconds with just the staff and Ice Shard!," which was absolutely impossible.
It's still impossible, but now we don't give the players any hope that they'll be able to do it without upgrading their gear! ; )
AND since we still love the quest, and we have a perfectly good timer programmed in, we kept it as an optional sidequest!
(Go talk to the new guy by the birds)
Kill 3 Turtles with one Fireball
When we designed this quest, the game had no critical hits, no misses or almost any kind of damage variables: a hit was a hit. So you'd be able to really measure how much health each turtle had and then finish them off at the same time with a neat Fireball.
You also had the option to pull 5 or so turtles instead of just 3 to make it even easier.
Just a nice turtle ecosystem, until you show up with your fireballs and stuff!
The game had only a very rudimentary tutorial back then, so the turtle questline was designed to introduce players to higher level fighting (it still does in a way, but now it's not as critical as it used to be).
So after the game evolved, that specific quest ended up requiring the player to pull at least 5 or 6 turtles every time, to compensate for all the damage variables (and even doing that, we saw players having to restart it a few times because the game was trolling them and 3 turtles would never die at the same time).
Also the questline later asks the player to kite all 9 turtles at the beach, so it made that quest a little redundant since some players were already pulling all 9 to finish the 3 turtle quest.
For this quest we pondered about ways to fix it, removing damage variables during it, removing the request to have them die at the same time and other things. But we decided to simply remove the sub quest itself. So now that whole questline is shorter and flows better.
So we hope this shows that we listen to you! We really do! We watch every single LetsPlay video and we try to watch all Twitch streams live (we sometimes can't because of timezone issues). We read your comments here on Steam and everything you write us on Twitter or Facebook.
This doesn't mean we'll turn Tanzia into a sidescroller shoot 'em up because some random person told us that's what they really want though! : D
It means that we appreciate your input, and we're always listening!
This new build also fixes a few bugs and other things! Read all about it on the full changelog below:
7/14/2017 P4 #3170
-adjustments to Abenaki's Challenge intro quest to make it less cryptic.
-add the original Abenaki's Challenge as an optional side quest.
-remove Kurame's 3-turtle quest. It became redundant with the addition of crits and resists and people didn't like it.
-open up Temple Ruins!
-open Sinking Island!
-open The Ancient Library!
-add an NPC who tells you where to catch the boat.
-FIX: Using Gamepad, if you select a side quest in the journal and then complete it, you can no longer select items in the journal.
-FIX: The cliffs on the sides of The Lagoon beach are bare.
-fix bug where people are jumping right off the boat dock and into the water at Bear Island.
-FIX: Can pass the collision wall by following the water line from The Docks to Turtle Beach.
-fix some Forgotten Jungle NPC chatter issues.
-lower the artifact gem prices so you can't sell 2 gems and buy a castle.
-update collision models in Emuri Village so you can't jump through the roof.
-make Emuri in Emuri Camp say things.
-make Diplomatic Immunity NPCs say meaningful things if you speak to them out of turn.
-FIX: remove the vial of water from inventory after giving it to Tika.
-FIX: don't let player walk on water in Forgotten Jungle.
-clear the Trigger flag on all water. Use layers to avoid water collision instead.
-fix Emuri guard and captain display names in Emuri Camp.
