Season 5 brings a massive 16 variations of Underflips, which is more than we've ever seen. How did the design team decide which variations to include, especially highly technical ones like the Nollie Hospital Heelflip?
Alex: We always want to do more than just add things in from past games. To start, it was looking at what our legacy titles had and we redid all of those first, and then it was figuring out what more we could add. We said hospital flips could be cool, but then you also get to match each direction, so it transforms into a heelflip, nollie hospital flip, and nollie hospital heelflip. So we added the hospital flips, which add 4 variations, and the impossible, which also adds 4 new variations.
Lance: For hospitals, they were an interesting one because we have the flick to flick with a kickflip underflip, and then we have the scoop to flick with a shove underflip, but we didn't have flick to scoop. So it was this obvious input space of why that shouldn't work. Hospital flips - that is a new trick for skate. We wanted to add a plus-one to it. I think they are a really stylish and satisfying trick, so once we saw the input space was there and it is a new trick we can bring in, it was a pretty obvious addition. The Impossible Underflips were inspired by some real-life tricks that we saw. There are some skaters who do something like that, and we wanted to bring in something that people have been excited about in real life and represent that in the game.
The community is stoked to see Underflips arrive in skate., me included. Mechanically, how has the underlying input and feel of the trick been updated to match the flow and physics of this new era of skate.?
Lance: Making sure the inputs felt responsive with how our skater works was a big part of getting Underflips feeling right, so that when it felt like you did the input, your skater was responding and doing the catch and reversing the flip. We put work into that because the timing window is tight to go from a kickflip to a kickflip underflip. We needed to spend time making that as generous as possible to support a wider range of input speeds.
Shanna: The input response was a big one. I think also just making sure it works for people who aren't as experienced in skate., who might not be used to the inputs or flicking the stick super fast to get the trick to play. We had a bunch of players who didn't grow up playing the older titles in the franchise and had never really done Underflips, making it nearly impossible for them to land one. So we spent a lot of time refining the inputs to make sure they could get it too, not just the experienced veterans.
With the new SUMR Camp Mega Park introducing huge mountain gaps and mega lines, how do Underflips allow players to maximize their style and technical scores in these massive air situations?
Lance: Actually, I would say no. I would say it's the other way. We wanted to still ensure that we're doing more street-level stuff alongside. We didn't want to focus the whole season entirely on just big-air mega stuff. This is actually something we hope to see a lot of street-style skaters doing, or realism-style skaters appreciating Underflips as well. Yes, you can do them in the big airs and everything like that, but it is really more of a technical trick to get really nice, detailed lines. Where we did work on S.U.M.R. Camp, it was actually a lot of work just getting the gameplay to work there in general because of all the high speeds and big airs. We were making sure that it holds up on its own, and here you go, you get Underflips too. Go have fun with those everywhere. They belong in all styles of skating if you like them.
Alex: Exactly. This is for the street too, not just the big mega ramp, and that's cool.
The Season 5 blog mentions new Bounties and an overhauled progression system. How heavily will players need to rely on mastering these Underflip variations to conquer Season 5's new challenges and Spot Battles?
Lance: Our approach there is that, as we add new tricks, we want to integrate them into the other parts of the game that both teach and test players on these kinds of tricks. We want someone to discover Underflips because a task asks them to, and because we know not everyone goes digging around in Skatepedia to find these things. That is a great way to introduce things. At the same time, we know these are tricks that a lot of people will have to practice, so we don't want to go straight to the max difficulty of testing these things right away, either.
One of the good things about being an evolving game is that we can introduce things and have a skill test that's appropriate for that part of the lifetime of a trick. Then, as we see how players do with them, we can start integrating them into more difficult situations. I think, in terms of spot battles, it is neat because it lets players show a new level of mastery as they get better at these things. That always feels nice. We hope that the more time they spend with them, the more likely they are to pull these tricks out of their pockets on demand.
What were the biggest animation hurdles in making that mid-air board flick and catch look naturally smooth and stylish?
Alex: We can do low ones, so that was a pretty tricky one to do. You have to animate them faster than they were before in Skate 3, for example. We had to do everything faster, so to make it read well, we did a lot of back-and-forth and added a little pause before flicking back up. If it were done in a single motion, it would be really hard to read what was going on. A lot of work went into the feel of that under-flick to make it feel good.
All Underflips start with a regular flip trick, so they always begin with the regular animation. We have to start from that base, and it branches from the input window you have. If it's a kickflip underflip, it will start with the regular kickflip. If you enter it correctly, it will blend into the underflip itself.
With incredibly complex variations like the Front Foot Impossible Underflip, how did the team go from a regular fliptrick into Underflips? Like from Front Foot Impossible to a Front Foot Impossible Underflip?
Alex: We started from the regular tricks and did the Underflips after through keyframes. It was a lot of work, and a lot of back-and-forth went into that.
Lance: Because we are a game, we want to represent all of these tricks symmetrically. We want you to be able to scoop and flick in any of the four directions for the scoop. We may have to cover things you wouldn't commonly see in real life. We want to cover all our bases and all the directions. That is always a goal of ours. We don't want it to feel like, "Why can't I impossible underflip that way?”. You can do all four always. Hospital flips, you can do all four.
Combo lines are everything to the community, linking one trick to another while keeping it smooth and clean. How did you ensure that the transition from a complex Underflip directly into one of the newly improved Footplants feels entirely fluid, without losing momentum?
Lance: We always want to make sure we are building our new tricks in such a way that they systemically fit into the game well, and you can always branch from one type of action to another. Essentially, once you are done with an underflip, you are just in an air state, and you can do anything else that you can usually do from an air state at that point. So if you have airtime, do a grab, do a foot plant. The bridging point there is that you have done the underflip, now you are into your footplant timing. Making those fast and responsive is what we are looking for.
Any final thoughts?
Shanna: I think one thing that Johnny (Gameplay Engineer and sponsored skateboarder) mentioned while we were working on Underflips was that he had never seen an Underflip happen in a skate park before, and I think it would be cool if this brought Underflips to skate parks. If people were seeing this in-game, they're like, “Oh, I want to try that.”
How did the team focus on getting flatground footplants to be smooth and feel good?
Dominique: With the foot plants, because it is a move that just follows from doing a board grab with the foot extended, you can just branch back into an air state, but if you hold on to it until you approach a landing, then we just want to flow naturally into a foot plant. We have no control over when the user enters input, and we want to enable them to pull off foot plants as often as possible, as long as they are entering input. Getting them to happen quickly was a big challenge we had to address.
If you are falling from really high and you have a leg extended, we sort of want you to have that bracing-for-impact animation playing out as you brace for impact, not significantly beforehand. But now, if you have very little time, we have to snap you into it, so we always scale the animation playback to coincide with your landing.
Lance: Another cool thing we got with flatground footplants that I was really happy to see was that, on flat ground, you can hit a kickflip to footplant. You can get flip tricks even in that short time window, and I think it is just great that the options that open up.
With Season 5 officially introducing four distinct new variations (Judo, BS, FS, and Fast Plant) after the work done in 0.31.5, what went into the decision-making process for choosing these specific tricks to expand the player's core Footplant toolkit?
Dominique: The foot plants - we just want them to flow naturally from the one-foot board grabs. Given that we have two shoulder buttons to pick right or left hand, and two face buttons to pick right or left foot, we already had one-foot board grabs in there. So then these were just the foot plants that you can do naturally from those board grabs. And I guess the judo one just had to be in there because it is a pretty badass-looking animation.
Lance: Instead of expanding beyond the base footplant tricks, we wanted to make sure you could do more with those footplants. We made sure that when you spin out of a foot plant, it felt right, that you would have directional control coming out of a foot plant. So if you hold the left stick down, you can come back in the way you came. Say you go up a bank, then you can hold the left stick down to come back down the bank, and you can aim out of your footplant. We wanted to give that expression and autonomy. We also wanted to make sure it fits in with other types of air tricks, so now you can do a backflip into a foot plant, then a front flip out of it.
The Season 5 blog highlights adjustments to ensure Footplants feel smooth and natural across every situation. From a technical standpoint, how does the game dynamically adjust the animation and foot-to-ground physics when a player triggers a Footplant on irregular or steep terrain compared to a flat ledge?
Dominique: Ordinarily, when you launch a jump, we are trying to anticipate where you are going to land because we want the best outcome for the user, so we want them to be able to land somewhere that they can skate out of. However, we don't know in advance that the user is going to input a foot plant, and when you are foot planting, you are obviously not skating out of things.
We are always checking while you are in the air and doing the foot plant input if there are opportunities. Given that your leg is extending further, it increases your reach, and you have the potential to land on much smaller surfaces than you would if you were trying to skate out of something, like on lampposts, fence posts, and rails. We are always checking to see if your foot can intercept something along the way. If so, and things are oriented correctly, we can just make you land on it and take off.
Lance: That is a really great point, too, because it brings obstacles as playable spaces that you really couldn't do much else on. Like the tops of little lights, or the edge of some pillar that you couldn't really skate on. Now you can chain that together with a foot plant, so it actually really opened up the world in a lot of interesting ways.
There is a new set of Challenges and Bounties specifically built to feature these improved Footplants. How do these events challenge players to use the new variations creatively rather than just using them as standard, straightforward tricks?
Lance: I'd say for this, you can combine those of just new mechanics, and what do you do with those in terms of integrating them into the game? We roll it out, and we hope these are teaching moments to introduce players to these mechanics, and then to see what depth to add over time for how these things are asked of players to skill-test them.
A great Footplant is all about momentum and "steeze." How did the animation and design teams collaborate to make sure the aggressive style of the new Judo Footplant or Fast Plant doesn't interrupt the fast, fluid momentum players need for high-speed lines?
Dominique: Another thing we do to enable the user to perform foot plants in circumstances they might otherwise be unable to is that we let the skater move really fast. If you were to stick a foot down on the ground while moving across the ground really fast, you just couldn't do it. So what we do is attenuate the skater's velocity briefly as they land, but we don't want that to kill their velocity or their line. What we do then is feed most of the velocity that they had going into the foot plant back into the skater. That way, you see this little moment where there is a bit of a pause, and then you feel like it really connected with the ground. But then we just keep your momentum going so that you can do the next trick.

Developer’s Note: With the launch of Season 5, the Legacy skate.Pass is being retired, meaning all Season 5 Standard and Premium track rewards must be earned within the active season. This change is part of how we’re evolving progression in skate., and we want to set clear expectations that Season 5 rewards need to be earned during the active season. To ensure a smooth, rewarding progression experience, we have tuned earn rates and introduced new ways to collect Tix, including Spotlight Challenges and Endless Bounties. While unlocking every single seasonal item requires 76,346 Tix, dedicated players can earn a maximum of 123,543 Tix before the season ends.

Our goal with this new trick was to make it feel satisfying to pull off while also opening up new variations like Hospital Flips and Impossible Underflips. Remember to check Skatepedia to see the Flick-It patterns you'll need to learn for Underflips.
Block Parties
Block Parties are now permanently in rotation! Introducing Block Party Subtypes—four variations of the Block Party Ruleset:
Standard—the base experience.
Pro Comp—a more challenging experience, with locations and objectives that compliment masters of the mode.
Mixer—lightweight social challenges with a party vibe.
Block Blitz—a short, high-intensity battle that takes place in one location.
Each new Block Party will be randomly assigned one of the four subtypes.
The top three players in a Block Party are now given a special gold, silver, or bronze visual effect that lasts until new winners are declared. The effect is applied only after the Block Party has ended. You can toggle this effect in the General settings menu under “Show Winner Crown VFX.”
UX improvements:
Block Party Subtype displayed throughout the UI (Hud, Map, etc).
Round point multipliers shown before & after each round.
Player-Placed Spot Battles
You can now create your own Spot Battles via the Throwdowns menu. When setting up a Spot Battle, you can set the number of players, privacy setting, number or rounds, turn timer, starting position, and rotation.
Gameplay Improvements
Updated Manual Nose and Tail Brake animations.
Updated Air Footplants to reduce visual sliding.
Updated Flick-It detection for Impossibles to reduce accidental Impossibles.
Updated Flick-It influence on pop-height for Pop Shuvits to give better height control.
Grind Assistance now works with longer airs to rails.
Improved camera behaviour in various situations, including Big Airs, Transfers, Low Airs, Coffins, against rails, and more.
Throwdowns
Spot Battles
Players can now see the leaderboard via the menu panel during any point of the match. The leaderboard will also be displayed between rounds.
Nearby Invite
Whenever a Throwdown is created, nearby players will receive a notification indicating which mode was placed. (Ex: Charles has created a Spot Battle).
Audio
The playlist keeps evolving. To kick off the start of Season 5, we’re bringing 17 new tracks to the airwaves of San Van.

Added support for 120hz video output on PlayStation 5 Pro using the Global Graphics Quality Performance setting.
Added an additional Performance optimization setting exclusive to PC called Target Simulation Rate. It allows you to choose between 60hz and 30hz to find what performs best for you. We have also configured the default settings for PCs below our targeted Minimum Spec to use 30hz.
PCs will now use Borderless Fullscreen by default.

Developer’s Note: The Dark Pop Glitch has been incidentally patched as part of ongoing development while fixing a rare crash. However, this was an issue we already intended to address due to the negative impact it could have on competitive game modes.

We’re back with Brad and Elliot (our World Art Director and World Design Director) to talk about Super Ultra Mega Resort (S.U.M.R.) Camp.
How did you guys take the legendary flow of iconic spots like the Hawaiian Dream, The Quarry, and Skate 3's Super Ultra Mega Park, crank it up for this new S.U.M.R. Camp Mega Park, and inject those classic vibes to keep everyone's playstyle feeling absolutely fresh?
Elliott: One thing we decided when we first began ideating this space was to make it a destination rather than just a spot. We went back and evaluated all the Mega Parks from previous games and found that one thing they did well was anchoring to a specific theme and setting. Another thing they all shared was a pretty clear golden path through them. So that's where we began. Establishing a theme and setting, and making sure we focus first on the main path down the mountain, ensuring it's easy to read and follow for the full ride. After that, as the theme evolved, we layered in branching elements that are both easy and hard to spot, allowing players to explore as much of the space as possible from all kinds of creative directions.
Brad: If you look at each of those classic locations, they are all insane skateable places that are grounded in some kind of locational fiction that makes them somewhat believable. We wanted to do the same thing again, but create a megapark that was even bigger and more over-the-top. The trick was to find a reason for a park like this to exist- so pretty early on, the big question became "WHAT IS IT??". We ended up finding great inspiration in mountain bike/ ski hills. They feature Nature, Downhill, Jumps, Flow, and Branching paths. So we created a hybrid of traditional megapark structures and a downhill mountain bike park. Once we had this core concept, the gameplay and visuals all started to fall into place.
Leaving the poured concrete behind for S.U.M.R. Camp's organic, wood-built aesthetic is a sick switch-up. What drove the decision to go with a more natural vibe?
Brad: We wanted to create a space where players could escape the city and experience something fresh. It’s that feeling of getting out into nature—going for a hike or camping—a chance to get away from all the noise, just to reset and realign yourself. Also, if I'm being honest, having lived in the Pacific Northwest my whole life, I absolutely love this biome, so selfishly, I wanted to share it with others!
In doing this, we wanted to be really careful not to make it feel like our park was stomping on the natural environment. Early on, we found ourselves basically deforesting the whole side of the mountain to cover it in concrete and skate park elements. It just felt like a clear-cut forest, so we went back and added a bunch of the trees back in. Then, we started incorporating more natural materials, like wood-slat ramps and using log-built structures to hold them up instead of just building massive concrete structures. It ended up feeling much more integrated with nature.
How did the Worlds and Gameplay teams collaborate to ensure that high-speed grinds and gaps feel buttery smooth across a fully connected, massive downhill mountain zone compared to traditional, segmented skateparks?
Elliott: One of the harder aspects of building this kind of thing was working at such high speeds. It's the highest speeds we've ever tried to play with, and so that was kind of new territory for us. The Worlds team needed to work closely with the gameplay teams to fine-tune aspects like physics, camera, and high-speed grinding. Some of them are subtle enough that you might not notice right away, but it's the way all the elements work together that makes the experience so fun and exhilarating. There is quite a bit of back-and-forth ideation on solutions throughout this map’s development, as we on the world design team continue to test constantly to make each small and big idea work as consistently as we want it to.
Skate 3’s Mega Park had those massive, obvious transfers, but this new one has hidden lines everywhere! How did you approach burying those sneaky gaps for players to hunt down?
Elliott: Well, one thing Super Mega Ultra Park from Skate 3 did really well was hinge its layout on a switchback design. Doing this allowed for some interesting lines to form naturally when facing the switchback straight down. So we used that as a starting point to design our version of a Mega Park destination, as we felt we could translate it well into a larger-scale mountain setting. We want players to constantly ask, “If I go off here, where could I land?” With our layout being quite long and large, we created a waterfall running down the center to help players landmark the space and create really interesting over-the-top gameplay along the main switchback path.
The hangout spots scattered around the mountain have that perfect DIY, community-built energy. What past Skate vibes inspired those chill zones?
Brad: Because nothing quite like this exists in real life, we needed to find some ways to anchor skate culture into it. To do this, we did a bit of "what if" type of thinking- as in "what if the skate community inherited this downhill mountainside training facility?" The community would probably bring a lot of DIY, similar to what you see in real-life community-built skate parks like Burnside. Along with this would come all the little community hangout spots you find around the map.
Elliott: We also wanted to keep in mind the social possibilities of our game. We want players to find great spots to hang out with both large and small groups. Dressing them up to make them a pleasant place to hang out, or a spot with a beautiful view of the park and the players, was really fun to do.
Over 30 different paths down the mountain is mind-blowing! Did watching how the community shredded Hawaiian Dream and The Quarry help map out all these crazy new routes?
Elliott: Oh, for sure! One thing we liked about Hawaiian Dream is its “destination” mood, and it's an area that really pays off for exploration. We looked at it from a top-down perspective and played a bunch of “what ifs” to help us get inspired about where we wanted to take our Mega Resort.
Also, in all honesty, I'm not even sure there are only thirty paths down the mountain. As usual, I'm sure our players will show us something we never imagined possible.
Brad: Watching how creative players got with locations from all the skate games - old and new - absolutely motivated and inspired us to make something that will give them a ton of opportunities to find their own lines!

In Season 5, we’re bringing you the best of both worlds: the hustle of San Van, plus the perfect place to leave it all behind and see where the ride takes you. Introducing S.U.M.R. Camp: a mountain getaway built for big speed and big air.
Think massive gaps, expansive terrain, and brand new mega lines. Away from the city, it’s a chance to enjoy a session with killer tunes, good people, and plenty of room to ride.
Back in San Van, new and updated skateparks keep the action going closer to home. The Stadium is still open to explore, with Grom and S.U.M.R. Camp just a short ferry ride away, now easier to find with the Location Selector at the San Van Ferry Terminal. Check the chart below for access windows and details for S.U.M.R. Camp, The Stadium, and Isle of Grom.
As an added benefit to their pass, Season 5 skate.Premium Pass holders can access S.U.M.R. Camp early, from Sept 8 until Oct 6, 2026. Weeks 1-3 are available in update 32.0, each unlocking progressively each week (i.e. Sept 8, 15, and 22nd) when players complete the previous week.
Weeks 4-6 will arrive later in the Season during update 32.5
Players must have access to S.U.M.R. Camp to unlock the event, but it persists all season long, so it will be playable for all players once S.U.M.R. Camp enters general (non-early) access.
The event will not be available after Season 5 - so make sure you hop in and see what happens each week!
Blending Missions and Bounties into a single, seamless adventure where the story unfolds as you play. By delivering fully voiced narrative updates in real-time as you complete Bounties, you can stay fully immersed in the action without needing to track Missions or pause to read menus.
Coming mid-season with update 0.32.5, the team has built the sickest new street park in Hedgemont, along Blue Light Beach, called Parry Point Park.
As part of the Season 5 update, S.U.M.R. Camp elements and inspiration are spilling into San Van for the Block Party, giving the plaza a relaxed, rustic makeover.
Something is happening over at the old Hedgemont Community Park, as construction is kicking off in full swing. We’ll keep an eye on it and report back as the construction crews make progress.
Coming Sept 8, 2026, update 0.32.0 will have fixes, improvements, and tweaks; and we’ll have those patch notes for you to dive into on Sept 7, 2026.

The team has continued to refine our core mechanics. For Season 5, we’ve upgraded footplants alongside a new set of Challenges and Bounties to feature them. Thanks to your feedback, we're able to keep pushing these improvements forward, with ongoing adjustments to ensure footplants feel smooth and natural across every situation in the world of skate.

As we shared in our Progression update blog, how you play, earn, and progress has gotten a major overhaul, starting with Season 5.
As a quick refresher, the new Bounties system introduces Endless and Crew Bounties, while multiple progression paths and non-expiring challenges give you the freedom to play your way. You can tackle weekly Spotlight Challenges for extra rewards and continuously earn through the skate.Pass and new seasonal content.
We were excited to test Meetups: Block Parties at the end of Season 4. After some tuning, tweaks, and improvements based on community feedback, they’re coming back to Season 5 as an official mode. (The list of fixes and improvements will drop with the 0.32.0 Patch notes coming Sept 7, 2026.)
Mass-Player Social Events: Block Party is a mode that supports up to 150 players simultaneously in a casual yet competitive roaming skate contest.
Seamless Opt-In: Events trigger every 30 minutes (at :15 and :45) and allow instant drop-in/drop-out participation simply by skating into the event area—no queues or sign-ups required.
Dynamic Roaming Mechanics: Each event rotates across three randomized, connected locations across the city, creating a natural group parade between spots.
Varied Objectives & Late Comebacks: Challenges blend street, park, and vert objectives with randomized sequences, featuring late-round point multipliers that allow for big comeback wins.
Real-Time Leaderboards & Visual Crown: Tracks performance via active Round and Overall leaderboards, displaying top players alongside your immediate competition and highlighting the current round leader with an in-game crown.
Bounty-Based Progression: Players earn rewards by completing accessible Block Party bounties rather than needing a 1st-place finish, ensuring rewards are attainable for all skill levels.
Dropping in Season 5 with update 0.32.0, we’ll have four types of Meetups: Block Parties.
Invitational - the standard Block Party
Pro Comp - designed for those looking for more realistic, slower-paced competition that requires much more mastery of the trick library
Mixer - social challenges that give that party vibe for the more casual, relaxed San Vanner
Block Blitz - high-intensity battle in one location for those without a lot of time but want to get on that leaderboard
With X Games San Van in Season 4, we introduced Spot Battles. In Season 5, we’re giving you control of Spot Battles through the Throwdowns menu.
When you open the Throwdowns menu, you’ll have 2 options: Skate Jam (the regular throwdown) or Spot Battles. Set the size and location, then get busy! Unlike Skate Jams, when in a Spot Battle, you’ll watch the other competitors.

You can complete the Standard (free) track, upgrade to the Premium track for 1,000 SVB to get access to the Premium items, or get a bigger boost with skate.Premium Pass+ for 2,000 SVB, which will give you skate.Premium, plus 4,000 Tix to begin unlocking skate.Pass items.
Skate.Pass content requires gameplay and all game updates to unlock. Premium and Premium+ content also requires skate.Pass Premium or Premium+ (sold separately).
So what are the rewards in Season 5?
Alright, let’s dive into what’s on the table for the Season 5 skate.Pass. You’ve got 110 tiers to cruise through (12 main pages + 2 bonus pages) - 37 tiers on the Standard track and 73 tiers waiting on the Premium side. Rack up 33 free cosmetic rewards and 4 SVB tiers on the Standard track, or go full send with Premium to unlock 60 more cosmetic rewards and 13 additional SVB tiers. That’s a total of 93 cosmetic items and 17 SVB tiers if you dive all the way into the skate.Premium Pass - earning up to 1,500 SVB by the time you cross the finish line.

In Season 5, we're making some big changes to progression to better reward the way you play. In this update, we're overhauling progression so your time in San Vansterdam rewards your time on the board - not your login schedule. Here’s what we have lined up:
Tasks are becoming Bounties - and that’s just the beginning. There are two big additions coming your way, along with the name change:
Endless Bounties: Finished your regular objectives? Endless Bounties keep the session alive with fresh ways to progress. And if you’re not feeling the one we’ve served up, you can reroll with Rip Chips to try something new.
Crew Bounties: Master each neighborhood by conquering these permanent, escalating series of bounties from the DaKs, SVLocs, and DLC crews. They start easy but ramp up quickly, rewarding you with exclusive crew-themed gear as you advance through each page.
Challenges will no longer rotate daily: once unlocked through Neighborhood progression, Missions, and Crew Bounties, they’re yours to complete whenever you want. No more racing the clock.
All Challenges will reset at the start of Season 5, giving you a fresh opportunity to earn new rewards and crew progression. From there, you can work your way through the Challenges on your map without progress resetting each day during rollover - meaning less repetition from doing the same challenges every day.
Spotlight Challenges: Each week, we’ll feature specific challenges with bonus objectives and extra Tix for shutting them down, giving you new goals without the FOMO.
Every Bounty (except Crew Bounties, which contribute to their respective Crews) now contributes to the Neighborhood you choose to rep, giving you more control over how you progress. As you level up one Neighborhood, you'll naturally unlock the next, so every skating session contributes toward both Neighborhood progression and your skate.Pass.
Hit max rank? There’s still plenty to do. Complete Crew Bounties or replay the reset Challenges to earn even more rewards. What you’ve already earned, unlocked, and progressed won’t be reset.
We've rebalanced progression and rewards to better support every type of player. Most players will earn more consistent Neighborhood Rep through regular play, while one-time rewards from Crew progression, Missions, and Challenge completion have been significantly increased. Rip Chip rewards have shifted toward meaningful milestones rather than endless grinding, helping reward exploration and progression while maintaining long-term goals for dedicated players.
These changes are all about making progression feel more rewarding, however you play.
Multiple progression paths: Right off the jump, you'll have multiple paths forward through Missions, Bounties, and Challenges.
More mission variety: Rather than a single long mission line, mission progression is now split into multiple mission chains and side missions, giving you more freedom in how you play.
Rewards for how you play: As you progress, your focus naturally shifts toward completing Bounties, Spotlight Challenges, and new activities, while late-game players will continue earning rewards through the skate.Pass and seasonal content.
Whether you're dropping in for a few sessions each week or grinding every day, there will always be meaningful progression waiting for you.

The wrong item spawns when you use the Quick Drop menu to place something.

Players cannot find non-friend accounts using Skater codes.

Casual Yet Competitive: Designed with accessible objectives for all skill levels, but built with enough depth, point scaling, and trick-chaining potential for competitive players.
Seamless Entry: Features a seamless "drop-in/drop-out" mechanic with no sign-ups, matchmaking queues, or interaction prompts—players simply skate into the event area to participate.
Scheduled Intervals: Events trigger every 30 minutes (at :15 and :45 past the hour).
Dynamic City Roaming: Each 30-minute event moves across three randomized, connected locations throughout the city (including popular hubs and lesser-known spots), creating a group parade between locations.

We have two interviews this week. While we talked about the X Games San Van stadium in the mid-season blog, we had a mini-interview with Brad and Elliot from the World team on the setup of X Games San Van. We also chatted with Ella and (different) Brad on the upcoming test of Meetups: Block Parties.
Now that X Games San Van is live, we wanted to chat with our World Art and World Design folks on how they brought the X Games to San Van via the stadium. Brad and Elliot sat down to give us some inside details and BTS info.
Jeff: When updating the stadium for X Games, what was the main focus?
Elliott: I think authenticity was always at the forefront of our conversations throughout its production. It was important for us to strive to give players the feeling of being at the actual event.
Brad: Making it feel like the real deal was paramount to making this event work. From an art perspective, this meant studying a lot of the X Games parks from the past, closely reviewing what was planned for this year’s event. Rather than trying to copy every detail of the real park, we opted to capture the spirit of each section in a way that felt great with our game’s mechanics.
Jeff: What part of the X Games San Van setup in the stadium is your favorite?
Elliott: Usually, I’d gravitate towards the street park because it fits my style of play the most, but the huge vert ramp rides so well that I find myself wanting to skate it the most when free roaming.
Brad: Give me the vert! I love how the vert ramp turned out in this design. It's larger than real life, so it gives you a satisfying big air experience, but it still looks authentic.
Jeff: The setup is inspired by the X Games Championship New Orleans park, right?
Elliott: Hell ya! From the very beginning, we were really excited to get the chance to be involved with such a cool real-world event. Players get to watch the event and then try out skate.’s version to try and imitate lines and tricks they just saw.
Brad: Yes — the setup is based on the X Games Championship New Orleans park. I loved having the opportunity to work directly with the X Games team. Adapting their park designs for the game was a fun challenge, and they were an incredibly positive group to collaborate with.

Jeff: Thanks for your time, fellas. With X Games Challenges resetting today, I gotta jump in and get the last of my X Coins.
With the upcoming Meetups: Block Parties weekend test, we chatted with Ella, Technical Game Designer, and Brad, Systems Design Director, from Full Circle to talk about an exciting new mode the team is testing in skate., starting August 7th: Block Parties.
Jeff: We mentioned Block Parties in the mid-season blog post. What was the core inspiration behind Block Parties?
Ella: When we set out to design any new mode, we look for inspiration everywhere—previous games, other genres, and real life. For Block Parties, we looked at the skate contests you often find at neighborhood skate parks and put our own unique skate. twist on them.
Brad: The inspiration is about creating moments where players naturally come together. There’s competition, for sure, but it’s also about that feeling of rolling up, seeing a crowd already there, joining in, learning from the people around you, and being part of something happening live in the city.
Jeff: Players don't have to sign up, queue, or join a party—you just roll up to the area, and you’re in, right?
Ella: Exactly, and that’s the coolest part. There are no sign-ups, no queues, and no hold-to-interact prompts to start a challenge. You can enter and leave the zone whenever you want. You could show up halfway through or right near the end—though it might be harder to win if you join late!
Jeff: How do Block Party objectives balance casual and competitive play?
Brad: Our primary goal was to create objectives that are easy to understand right away, so anyone can roll up and try them. However, we left plenty of room for skilled players to push further and differentiate themselves. A casual player can jump in and feel like part of the event without high-skill barriers locking away the fun. But if you’re competitive, there’s depth: you can optimize your line, find better spots within the Block Party zone, chain tricks together, and climb the leaderboard.
Ella: We packed Block Parties with a mix of vert, park, and street objectives so every single round feels fresh! Plus, point multipliers kick in during later rounds, giving you a huge reason to stick around—or pull off an insane comeback victory even if you drop in late!
Jeff: Block Parties rotate to a completely new spot on the map every 30 minutes. How will that fast rotation affect the vibe of Free Roam play, and why would a player choose to follow the event across the map?
Brad: The roaming aspect is definitely a standout feature. Each Block Party isn't confined to a single spot; it moves through three different locations over the course of the event. It creates this awesome rhythm where players gather, compete, and then a huge group rolls through the city together to the next location. It makes the world feel alive.
Ella: We map those paths intentionally. We might start near a popular hub to gather players who are already hanging out, and then pull that crowd into parts of the city they might not normally visit. By the end, you get these pockets of energy popping up everywhere. We have dozens of locations and objectives mapped out, and the sequence is randomized. Almost no two Block Parties will feel identical.
Brad: Block Parties are scheduled to start regularly every 30 minutes (at 15 and 45 past the hour). Players know when one starts, but where it goes and what challenges pop up are surprises everyone discovers together in real time.
Jeff: Did you already have specific spots in mind that you knew would be great for a Block Party?
Brad: We built a comprehensive database of locations and built a network system connecting them. Popular areas have a slightly higher chance of appearing, but the system will regularly pull you into hidden gems and spots you might never have skated before.
Jeff: How do leaderboards work during Block Parties? Are they global, or locked to that specific server?
Brad: In a 150-player match, the leaderboard is a big part of the experience. There are two of them. The overall leaderboard tracks your standing across the entire Block Party—your total score is based on how you place each round. The round leaderboard updates in real time and shows how you’re performing in that specific match, tracking things like score and distance. In both views, we show the leaders at the top. Then, at the bottom, you’ll see your position along with the players right around you. With 150 players, we can’t show everyone at once, so this keeps it focused—you can see the top of the pack and exactly who you need to catch, or stay ahead of.
Ella: While there aren't static in-world 3D leaderboards like Spot Battles for this mode, we visually highlight the top player in real-time.
Brad: If you’re currently holding 1st place in a round, everyone in the area can see who and where you are because you'll have a crown above your head. It creates a cool target on your back and lets others study your lines.
Jeff: Aside from leaderboards, are there reward mechanics tied to Block Parties during this test?
Ella: While Block Parties don't directly reward currency like Rip Chips or Tix straight from the event itself, there will be a slew of Block Party-related tasks for players to complete. And don't worry—not all tasks require you to win, so players of all skill levels can complete them and earn rewards.
Jeff: This playtest is running for four days over a single weekend. What are the main things you’re hoping to evaluate during this short window?
Brad: First, we’re looking at engagement: Are players showing up? Are they following the party as it moves across the city?
Ella: To continue to improve gameplay experiences, we use data from game sessions to see which locations and objectives players enjoy most, where people drop off, and what creates the best gameplay flow.
Brad: Ultimately, we're validating the feeling. We want Block Parties to feel exciting, social, and a little frantic in a good way. Getting it into the community's hands is the best way to verify that. It's also important to note that this is an experimental technical test. We are testing our backend architecture to see how these 150-player events perform at scale in a live environment. Because it’s a test, we might encounter bugs or stability issues, and we may even need to take the mode offline temporarily to make fixes. That's a normal part of testing live-service features before bringing them back permanently.
Jeff: Block Parties are the first type of "Meetups." Can you hint at where this format might go in the future?
Ella: Bringing a seamless opt-in mode for up to 150 players on a server has involved major technical challenges, so Block Parties have been a huge learning experience.
Brad: Block Parties are just the first step. For this test, they'll take place exclusively in San Van, but our near-term goal is to refine and expand the variety of Block Party locations before branching out into entirely new types of Meetup events.
We’re kicking off this test of Block Parties on Aug 7, 10AM PT, so jump in, find a Block Party (at the :15 and :45 of every hour), then let us know what you think.

Before you dig into the bug fixes and feature updates launching with this update, take a look at our X Games San Van article for a full overview of the event.
Skater Codes
Use new Skater Codes to add friends! The Social menu has been updated with a new Find Skaters hub, accessible from every social screen. Here you can enter a 6-digit Skater Code, search by username, or view and refresh your own Skater Code in one place. Those who haven't created a code will be prompted to generate one, and once generated, their Skater Code is displayed across all social screens for quick sharing. A new Skater Code Visibility setting lets you hide or show your code in the UI, making it easy to keep private while streaming or recording.
Missions & Early Game Experience
Updated the early game experience to help new skaters jump into the action faster and make the onboarding flow more flexible.
After completing the Flip Trick Course on Grom, you will now be teleported directly into San Van.
The Full Pull Tour AR Path has been removed, you now start in Hartcore Plaza.
After completing Ripping for Chips, you’ll now choose to continue with Spots and How to Own Them or head straight to our X Games event. Both paths are fully supported, allowing new skaters to return and complete the introductory mission after they explore X Games if they choose that route first.
Veteran skaters who have already completed Spots and How to Own Them, and log in after the X Games event has begun, will be automatically teleported to the Stadium so they can jump directly into the event.
From-Air Footplants
From-Air Footplants have been fully overhauled. Their animation and timing, control, momentum preservation and pop height, integration with other trick systems, and reliability across a wider range of gameplay situations has been improved. Below is a list of the specific improvements that were made:
Revamped From-Air Footplant animation and timing.
Improved pop height consistency out of From-Air Footplants.
Improved alignment to better support slopes and varied surfaces.
From-Air Footplants now function reliably on rails and across a wider range of gameplay situations.
Improved foot placement during From-Air Footplants.
Updated momentum preservation during From-Air Footplants.
Reworked From-Air Footplant wipeout conditions.
Added Left Joystick directional control out of From-Air Footplants.
Spinning into an From-Air Footplant now influences when you spin out.
Bodyflips can now land into From-Air Footplants.
Ground Footplants can now transition quickly into an From-Air Footplant.
Front-Air Footplants can now be chained, with diminishing strength, to reduce infinite sequences.
Transition Air Out to Lip or Flat
We’ve made improvements so that Transition Air Out to Lip or Flat will behave more reliably.
Developer’s Note: This behaviour happens when you hold the Left Stick up to air out to the lip or top of transition ramps. We found that it wasn't behaving very reliably, which limited being able to do From-Air Footplants from transition airs. This is also a small step towards improving transition skating, which is another area where we'd like to push for continued improvements in future updates.
Pumping Consistency
Improved pumping and consistency in a variety of situations.
Developer’s Note: We know pumping needs some work. This includes some consistency fixes to help pumping feel more reliable, and we'll continue to look into pumping improvements for future updates.
Pumping and Grab Feedback on Controllers
Added Adaptive Trigger support for Pumping and Grab inputs on supported controllers. Included as a toggle in Accessibility Settings.
Camera Behavior
Smoothed out several other camera behaviors in a variety of situations like mounts, Footplants, drop-ins, kick turns, big airs, rollers, climbing and more.
Quick Drop Objects
The UI flow to block or report a player from Quick Drops via Inspect Player has become easier to navigate.
Blocking another player will disable interactivity with all of their objects and prevent social interactions.
The Inspect Player menu is now easier to access when viewing objects in the world.
Inaccessible objects can be inspected from Quick Drop directly.
Area of Interest Pin
Added a new Area of Interest Pin to the map to make it easier for skaters to discover important locations and events, like X Games San Van.
You can select the pin to open an info panel and place a Waypoint or Fast Travel to the location.
Social Menu
The Social Menu layout has changed from horizontal to vertical navigation. Social Settings can be accessed through a new option in the button bar, or through the new Social menu in the Settings HUB.
VO

Pro skater Dashawn Jordan reacts dynamically to your skating—wiping out, ignoring the rules, and clutching wins.
Dashawn calls you up when you’re dominating in-game leaderboards.
Meetups: Block Parties
Starting August 7, an in-world announcer will help you track down events before they start and while they're active.
Audio cues will keep you hyped and informed as events kick off, switch rounds, move to new locations, and wrap up.

A new song—Wygdbi by Dashawn Jordan—has been added in celebration of the X Games event. Use the Grabster feature to discover and collect this track.
Gameplay
Fixed an issue where doing a Boned Ollie would cause future flip tricks to play an incorrect catch and landing animation.
Fixed an issue where reverting after a grind would cause an unnatural speed boost.
Developer’s note: Fixing this issue also necessarily meant fixing speed glitches that could occur when landing into reverts.
Fixed various issues where the camera’s height would unintentionally toggle between High and Low settings.
Fixed an issue where the camera would not update to the skater's direction when mounting.
Fixed an issue where returning to a Lip Mount session marker could result in a severe launch glitch.
Fixed an issue where From-Air Footplants were not ending scoring as intended.
Fixed an issue where Late Flips and Fingerflips would not flip correctly after an on ground Footplant.
Fixed an issue where a wipeout would occur when performing an On Ground Footplant into a Body Flip if the Body Flip Requires Wipeout setting was enabled.
General
Various stability fixes to improve overall experience and prevent crashes.
Fixed an issue where appearance changes could be lost if skate. was closed immediately after doing so.
Fixed an issue with the Replay Editor where certain inputs would become unresponsive and result in a soft lock.
Fixed an issue with the Replay Editor where adjusting the camera or trim could result in a soft lock.
Fixed an issue where the Replay Editor wouldn’t properly export a video on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Fixed an issue where other skaters would visually stutter briefly after teleporting nearby.
Fixed an issue where players couldn’t climb M-Corp Tower’s scaffolding.
Fixed an issue where party member's names would swap with a random one during the celebration screen after finishing a Co-op Challenge.
Fixed an issue where other players' Quick Drop objects were still visible, even when visibility was set to Mine Only.
Fixed an issue where skate. would freeze on the Social Spectate menu or while spectating.

From the moment you log in, you'll be dropped straight into the action with exclusive Challenges, competitive throwdowns, rewards, and an atmosphere inspired by one of the most legendary stages in skateboarding.
From July 21 to September 8, shred The Stadium during Open Access. The redesigned venue is packed with competition-inspired features, fresh obstacles, and X Games styling that captures the energy of a live event. All three main sections of the X Games layout are based on the designs of the MoonPay X Games League Championship course in New Orleans, specifically: the massive competition vert ramp, the street park, and the bowl section. The Stadium isn't just hosting the action—it's the heart of it, giving every skater a chance to experience the spotlight and see what they're capable of when the pressure is on.
If you're looking to test your skills, X Games San Van delivers. Take on 10 unique X Games Challenges spread throughout the city: six inside The Stadium and four in the surrounding streets. Some are inspired by iconic moments from X Games history, while a special Own the Lot challenge gives you the freedom to get creative and stack up your best combo.
Alongside the Challenges, we’ve got a full lineup of event Tasks, including limited-time X Games Live Tasks during the real-world competition, Club-inspired objectives, and Champion Tasks built for skaters chasing clean runs and bragging rights. Throughout the event, four sets of X Games Club Tasks representing Los Angeles, São Paulo, New York, and Tokyo invite you to throw down iconic tricks inspired by legendary pro skaters from each scene and earn exclusive club titles along the way.
Competition gets even bigger with the debut of X Games Spot Battles, a brand-new way to battle for the top spot. Every X Game Spot Battle includes a nearby leaderboard that updates throughout the day, showcasing the top three scores on the server. X Games Spot Battles are for up to six players individual players (no parties). Our team put together some custom X Games Throwdowns that are always live and ready for action, challenging you to put down your highest score at six featured locations across San Van. So, whether you're chasing first place, defending your position, or trying to crack the leaderboard before the clock resets, there's always a reason to take one more run.
Everything is better with your crew, and X Games San Van makes it easier than ever to skate together. Party sizes and Co-op Challenges have been expanded to support up to eight players during the event, making it possible to session with more friends. Players can also opt in to see others while participating in Challenges and Missions, bringing even more life and energy to the event. We’re also permanently opening a couple of fast-travel points in Brickswich to help you get to the event more quickly.
And of course, no X Games event would be complete without fresh gear.
Earn X Coins by completing Challenges, Tasks, Missions, and other event activities, then spend them in the Event Store on a collection of exclusive X Games-themed rewards. Looking to level up your style even further? Additional X Games ownables will be available in the Featured Store, giving you plenty of ways to represent the event both on and off the board. The jerseys, tanks, and t-shirts are all replicas of the IRL gear that will be in the X Games in New Orleans. (We designed the decks ourselves.) There's no shortage of reasons to keep pushing, keep competing, and keep stacking clips before X Games San Van wraps up on September 8.
Connecting with new San Van Friends just got easier. The Social menu is updated with a new Find Skaters hub, accessible from every social screen. Here you can enter a 6-digit Skater Code, search by username, or view and refresh your own Skater Code in one place. Players who haven't created a code will be prompted to generate one, and once generated, their Skater Code is displayed across all social screens for quick sharing. A new Skater Code Visibility setting lets you hide or show your code on the UI, making it easy to keep private while streaming or recording.
From August 7, 2026 (10AM PT) to August 10, 2026 (10AM PT), we're testing a new activity called Meet Ups. The first type of Meet Up we are testing are called Block Parties - a new city-wide meetup that turns Free Roam into a fast-paced multiplayer competition. Anyone nearby can jump in instantly and compete through a series of short, objective-based rounds featuring unique challenges, live leaderboards, and a chance to climb the standings for that Block Party. Every 30 minutes, the Block Party moves to a new location with a new leaderboard for you to dominate, bringing skaters together to compete, explore, and take on fresh objectives. You can join or leave at any time by simply entering or exiting the event area. We're excited to see how it plays, so jump in, give it a try, and let us know what you think!
Throwing a rail at the end of a ramp, blocking a sick setup - it’s annoying. So we’re improving the anti-griefing features in-game.
Added an Inspect Player button to the Objects so you can easily bring up their player card and block/report.
Made it easier to block objects in impossible-to-reach places.

Move your camera to the offending object
There’s now an Inspect Player button there as well, making it easier to block/report.
Blocking a player will:
Remove them from your EA Friends list and prevent further EA Friend invites.
Stop Communications from the player.
Prevent them from joining your Party.
Disable collision of this player's objects in the world.
Note: if you are in a party with this player, you will be removed from the party.

Some Players are unable to export in MP4 Format.

Rarely, a black screen appears when starting a challenge or throwdown on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Workaround: Rebooting skate. may resolve this issue.
Pinned tasks do not remain pinned when the game reconnects after inactivity.
Changing the graphics preset doesn’t update the settings shown at the bottom of the Graphics screen as it should.
The first step of the Help Wanted mission, Coping Inspector, gets crossed out and doesn't progress when arriving at the target area.
Workaround: Rebooting skate. results in the Mission progressing to the next step
The option to select between a 16:9 centered HUD and a full-width-and-height UI is present but non-functional in Windowed mode.
After finishing a Co-op Challenge, party members' names will swap with random ones during the celebration screen.
Often, players can't climb the scaffolding of M-Corp Tower.
The images and prices of some Bundles are not displaying in the Shop.
AMD driver 26.6.1 is causing skate. to crash.
Workaround: Roll back your drivers to 26.5.2 and restart skate.
Occasionally, players encounter a black screen when using fast travel, the Session marker, or when starting/completing challenges.
The Footplant to Body Flip transition causes an immediate bail when Require Grab While Flipping is enabled.
Rip Score pop-up appears after entering or leaving Stadium or Isle of Grom.
Using R3 to Quick Travel will also always toggle the Camera Height.
The Level 3 Mastery Task group is mistranslated in Japanese.
Daily and Mastery Task sections sometimes display a blank screen.
The Quick Drop radial menu temporarily resets after joining the server.
Trick landing animations can appear inconsistent after performing a Boned Ollie.
Flick-It Visualizer disappears after completing a challenge.
Tailslides and Noseslides are not correctly detected when approaching the ledge from its end.
The game freezes on the social spectate menu or while spectating.
The friends list sometimes displays multiple entries of the same friend or none at all.
Wallride detection often causes the skater to flip unnaturally.
The Smith-to-Tailslide task often fails to register when performed correctly.
Reverting after a grind can cause an unnatural speed boost.
The camera doesn't update to the skater's direction when mounting.
Returning to a Lip Mount session marker can result in a severe launch glitch.
Air Footplants are not ending scoring as intended.
Late Flips and Fingerflips don't flip correctly after an on-ground footplant.
Appearance changes can be lost if skate. is closed immediately after doing so.
Certain inputs become unresponsive, resulting in a softlock when using the Replay Editor.
Adjusting the camera or trim while using the Replay Editor can result in a softlock.
Sometimes the Replay Editor doesn't export a video properly.
Other skaters visually stutter briefly after teleporting nearby.
Sometimes other players' Quick Drop objects are still visible, even when visibility is set to Mine Only.
Players are unable to complete the Tip to Toe challenge due to Tailslides registering as Bluntslides.
Pinned tasks are unintentionally duplicating.
The Auto Curb Pop In Setup setting affects gameplay even when it is toggled off.
Players remain in a Party they are kicked from.
Inconsistent physics behavior that causes frequent bails on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Certain tricks that should meet the criteria aren't doing so for the XX challenge.
Some players are receiving an error message stating they don't have access when they try to join a Party in San Van, Isle of Grom, or the Stadium.
Challenges on the Isle of Grom are greyed out and incorrectly displayed on the Daily Challenge icon.
Quick Drops are displayed in the Skater section, replacing the skater appearance preview.
Player profile names don't display as intended.
Pedestrian voice lines can still be heard even after the setting is turned off.
Other skaters visually stutter while doing tricks near the player.
