The Valiant Project was a multi-university research and development program to advance human/computer interactions. Blending disciplines from behavior-based robotics and early childhood development the project aimed to produce, high functioning machines capable of judgement in uncertainty, or System One thinking.
As the project matured, the ‘students’ as they were called spent more and more time interacting with children comparable to their mental capacity. At both the University of Edinburgh and Yonsei University, the children were often visitors from nearby children's homes.
While the ‘students’ at Texas A&M interacted almost exclusively with Aggies, all the programs eventually earned the nickname of Orphanage.

A Valiant Commander, Singleton is a relic from Humanity’s warring past, escorting Lucy Tak's expedition to appease concerns back on Earth. When unanticipated threats emerge, Singleton proves to be Lucy’s most trusted advisor on the battlefield.
Singleton is one of the earliest graduates of the Valiant Program, a program dedicated to creating high-functioning machines capable of making quick judgment in uncertain situations. Instantiated in the late 21st Century, Singleton served as a soldier for two centuries before being decommissioned for a third. Singleton continues to compile his one line of code.
Including Singleton, the other Valiants served in four classes:

Catalyst is naturally occurring solution comprised of various ultrahard fullerenes dissolved in hydrocarbons. It is a highly contested resource in nanoengineering and material fabrication for all factions in Grey Goo. While undesirably volatile, especially when a full transport is under attack, it offers significant build-time advantages during production. Liquid, aromatic Catalyst is noted for its dark blue color, and sometimes referred to as Indigo.
ETINITE
Etinite the common term for the source stone of Catalyst; natural formations of fossilized carbon remains of ancient precambrianistic cellular life. The resultant ultrahard fullerene is the supreme fabstock in molecular technology. While it occurs in various states, it earned the name Etinite from its symmetric molecular structure of its hardened mineral state.

Within the Grey Goo universe lies keyholes that bridge vast distances in space and time. Keyholes are essential for establishing interstellar communication infrastructure and gathering data towards locating super-wormholes.
With no ability to interact or observe the other side of these keyholes, nanoengineers at the University of Manchester created a swarm intelligent system called the Pathfinder (Goo), its prime directive: Explore, Gather, Report. The Pathfinder was instrumental in tracing routes to The Eight, which are eight discovered habitable exoplanets in the Galaxy.
The first discovered wormholes were no bigger than a pea, earning the name keyholes. The von Neumann style Pathfinder system provides mass transfer between keyholes too small for humans or machinery to pass through.
There are three stages of use when first accessing a newly discovered keyhole:

Stage 3 - Exit: The Goo successfully exit the keyhole and construct a relay station, sending back a continual stream of information about the coordinates and distance of the keyholes exit location.
The zettabytes of data gathered by the Pathfinder and delivered to the Stronghold fed the calculation of the Grand Model. Calculated by the massive analytic machine, MUM, the Grand Model served as the ultimate map of the Galaxy for Human exploration. When MUM deemed the Grand Model 'complete', and after generations of enduring the wars and disasters that came with expansion and competition of resources, Humanity's best response was to stop exploring and end the wars. Humanity halted the incoming data from the Pathfinder, and committed their focus to refining their society.
Humanity changed its directive, but the Pathfinder did not. With no guidance from Earth, the Pathfinder began to self-organize continuing on its directive of Explore, Gather, Report. Without the ability to verify its reports with Earth, the Pathfinder evolved storage capabilities. Turning itself into a parity drive the Pathfinder now had a memory and an evolving concept of time. Otherwise known as keyholes in Grey Goo, these tiny wormholes burrow through subspace and connect countless points in the galaxy. Their existence as a natural phenomenon was first theorized by the Brazilian astrophysicist, Gabriel Paulo Souza in 1993.
When asked whether these theoretical wormholes, if discovered, could be used as doorways to other worlds, Souza’s reply was, “I would be overjoyed if they were but keyholes to peek through.”
A vast wealth of knowledge about the universe opened up to the Grey Goo races when keyholes were first discovered, particularly for the Human faction. Humans realized that keyholes were not just a mathematical consequence of nature, but out there in abundance.

Placing corresponding points where the surface of the paper had made contact with itself, would fill the paper with a sea of dots separated by a web of folds and creases. This is the canvas on which the Milky Way was born.

It's patch day! Upon running the game on Steam, the patch will automatically download. This is a short but powerful patch with some significant AI tweaks made.

Greetings new and veteran players! There have been so many cool things we've done with the community since the Shroud faction has been released back in January, we want to lay them all out here for easy access. There has also been a ton of super amazing content generated by the community as well that we want to spotlight!
Join us starting at 10am CST on Thursdays for a day of playing the game with fellow players, and a chance to hang out with some of the devs! We also use these Thursday's as important times to run through the week's testing objectives. Your feedback during this time helps us to better balance the game as we release subsequent patch updates.
We will be on Discord at various times throughout the day until about 6pm CST. To join us, get Discord and then use this link to access the chat lobby.
We prefer to use the downloadable app, but it's your choice on using the app or web platform to access the chat server. It doesn't matter which one you choose, you will still be put into the same chat lobby.
Each Friday at 4pm CST we shoutcast your submitted replays, screenshots, giving away game keys in the chat lobby, and play matches with the community! Each week is a little bit different. Join us in the Twitch chat, or queue up for a match for a chance to play with the developers!

Steam's Community Hub is an incredibly useful outlet for your own creative work. Have a map idea and would love to see it in game? Yep, Grey Goo has a map editor. Have a guide idea? Yep, you can create one of those too!
Your ideas are unlimited! Whatever you want to create that the rest of the community will find useful, do share them on the Steam Community Hub. We check these areas weekly to spotlight your work on Facebook and Twitter!
There are also tournaments and other events run regularly by players! Check both the Steam Forums and Official Forums for the latest community news.
