Patch 1.8.3 is now live!
This update introduces the brand new Hunting Rifle, a complete rework of the Pause Menu, new Settings, the new Field Manual system, improvements for new players, and bug fixes.
Sanguine will be 25% off during the Steam Summer Sale from June 25th through July 9th!
If you've been waiting for the right time to jump in, now is the perfect opportunity.
A powerful new weapon has been added to Sanguine.
The Hunting Rifle is a high-powered long-range weapon capable of engaging targets from a distance with precision.
Unique scoped reticle
Adjustable zoom levels between 2x and 6x
Automatic zoom-out while reloading
Slight bullet drop over longer distances
Dedicated sensitivity and invert settings
Displays on the Character Avatar
The Hunting Rifle can be found inside a locked shack off Main St.
Players can now inspect the shack window to preview the weapon before obtaining it. Doing so will also place a marker on the map indicating its location.
For existing saves where the shack has already been unlocked, the Hunting Rifle will still be available for pickup.
Added .308 Winchester Rounds.
Exclusive ammunition for the Hunting Rifle
Powerful but rare
Expensive to craft
Intended to be used carefully
The Gunpowder combination that previously created temporary Blood Shards now creates .308 Winchester ammunition instead.
Journal entries will update automatically if the recipe was previously discovered.
Note: Additional .308 crafting opportunities and world placements will be expanded in a future update alongside upcoming Bolt Cutters content.
The brand new Field Manual has been added.
Accessible at any time through the Pause Menu, the Field Manual acts as a central hub for learning controls, mechanics, systems, and gameplay features.
The goal is to provide:
Easier onboarding for new players
A convenient reference for returning players
A scalable system that can continue growing alongside Sanguine
Additional topics and pages will continue to be added in future updates.
A new first-time user experience has been implemented.
New players will now receive a brief introduction explaining:
How to open the Pause Menu
How to change Input Devices
How to access the Field Manual
Previous tutorial popups throughout the opening areas have been removed (with the exception of the Blood Shop tutorial).
Instead, tutorial documents are now available immediately through the Inventory Files tab, allowing players to review them at their own pace.
The Pause Menu has received a substantial overhaul.
Renamed Switch UI to Input Device
Localized Input Device text
Added visual Input Device icons
Reorganized Pause Menu layout
Fixed missing audio on several buttons
Localized Modern Mode camera setting names
In-Game Settings have been reorganized into dedicated categories:
Game
Video
Audio
This new structure will make future customization options easier to expand.
FPS Counter
Focus Mode X/Y Invert
Focus Mode Sensitivity
Rifle Scope X/Y Invert
Rifle Scope Sensitivity
Film Grain Intensity
Bloom Intensity
Noir Filter
Both intensity video settings include multiple intensity levels, allowing players to further customize the visual experience.
Slightly improved hit detection on Crawler enemy types.
Reduced instances of accidental item loss when combining items with a full Inventory.
Added proper error messaging and sound effects when combinations fail due to lack of Inventory space.
Localized failed weapon combination messaging.
Normalized Journal recipe naming conventions for ammunition crafting.
Fixed a potential issue that could prevent interaction with Big Mama.
As both a fix and future safeguard, a new 'bell' has been added beside Big Mama.
If she is ever unavailable for interaction, ringing the bell will call her back and restore functionality.
Fixed being able to open the Journal during cutscenes.
Fixed the Modern Mode audio issue during the Steam Pan unfreezing cutscene.
Additional polish and stability improvements.
Additional Fix 6/25:
There was a report of a softlock from returning to the Diner area from Main St in Modern mode, this was caused by FTUE updates in 1.8.3 and has now been fixed and patched. Massive TY for that report!
Over the past few months, my focus has been on bug fixes, optimizations, quality-of-life improvements, and generally making Sanguine a smoother experience for both new and returning players. With Patch 1.8.3, we've now reached the 16th update since 1.7 launched, and the game has improved tremendously during that time.
A huge part of that progress is thanks to all of you. Whether we've talked through Steam, Discord, X, YouTube, email, or during a livestream, your feedback has been invaluable. Every bug report, suggestion, review, stream, playtest, and discussion helps shape the direction of Sanguine. I truly appreciate everyone who has taken the time to share their thoughts and experiences.
Looking ahead, there are still a few lingering issues I want to address as soon as possible. The two biggest are inaccuracies with end-of-game ranking times and occasional issues with challenges or achievements not properly tracking. Those fixes are currently being worked on and will likely arrive in an upcoming hotfix once I'm confident they're fully resolved.
There's also one major quality-of-life feature still in development: cutscene controls. The goal is to allow players to pause and skip cutscenes whenever appropriate. Most of the underlying systems are already in place, but some of the earlier cutscenes were built before I had this functionality in mind, so they require additional work to support it properly. It's coming, but I want to make sure it's implemented correctly.
Beyond that, development is beginning to shift back toward content. One of the next additions will be a new section in the Blood Shop, currently called Resources, which will provide another avenue for unlocking useful items and rewards. After that, the primary focus becomes the long-awaited Bolt Cutters 1.9 update.
The Bolt Cutters are more than just a new key item. They unlock a substantial amount of new content throughout Craven Oaks, including new exploration opportunities, puzzles, progression paths, and rewards. One of the biggest additions arriving alongside them is a brand new weapon: the Flamethrower. If you've made your way through the Sewers, you've probably already seen it and wished you could get your hands on it. I'm currently working to ensure it feels powerful, satisfying, and balanced before it makes its debut.
The Bolt Cutters update will also include the next major boss encounter in the Parking Lot area, along with a significant story cutscene that helps kick off the events of Act 3. Alongside that content, I'm hoping to include a variety of additional improvements such as updated audio, a new addition to the Main St Save Room, expanded Recycler functionality, new monster textures, a new enemy type, and replacing several temporary AI-generated assets—most notably some of the Blood Shop artwork—with commissioned artwork.
I've always tried to be as transparent as possible throughout Sanguine's development, and that isn't changing anytime soon. As more players join Early Access and continue providing feedback, I'll keep sharing progress, plans, and challenges along the way.
While plans can always shift during development, my current goal is for Patch 1.9 to contain the majority of the content described above and release around October, coinciding with Sanguine's Early Access anniversary.
Thank you again for all of the support. The game wouldn't be where it is today without you, and I'm excited to continue building what's next.

Hotfix 1.8.1.1 is now live!
This hotfix focuses on addressing gameplay issues reported after Patch 1.8, while also introducing a revised gamepad Hotkeys layout based on player feedback.

Restored D-Pad UI navigation functionality.
Removed UI navigation support from the Right Trigger, as it was redundant.

Updated the keyboard & controller binding displays on the Pause Menu.
Additional Controller Fixes

Updated the Quick Turn input from Right Bumper to Right Trigger.
Fixed an issue preventing some non-Xbox controllers from properly using Quick Turn.
Fixed a camera lock issue after breaking the wooden crate in the Storage Room while playing in Modern Mode.
Fixed a camera lock issue after breaking the wooden crate in the Diner alley while playing in both Classic and Modern Modes.
Fixed an issue where the Unequip Weapon text could occasionally become stuck on screen while in the Inventory.
Fixed collision issues on the log pile in the Farm area.
Fixed an issue where weapons clipping through enemies could occasionally prevent bullets from registering hits.
Added a new Bloods Message hint for the hanging box puzzle in the Gas Station area.
These controller changes were made in response to player feedback requesting the return of D-Pad movement and menu navigation while still supporting the new Hotkeys system introduced in Patch 1.8.
The current implementation is intended to strike a balance between accessibility, available controller inputs, Classic Mode, Modern Mode, and Hotkey functionality. As always, I'll continue monitoring feedback and making adjustments where necessary to ensure the controls feel intuitive and comfortable for as many players as possible.
Thank you again for all of the feedback and support!

Hotfix 1.8.1 is now live!

This was caused by enemy behavior adjustments introduced in Patch 1.8. Landmines should now function as expected once again.
Fixed UI spacing issue for the 25 Blood Shards pickup text.
Fixed the Crossbow not properly appearing on Kris's back when equipped.
Fixed item pickup text overlapping in the overturned truck on Main St.

Localized the "Not Enough Blood Shards" message used by Offer Statues.
Reduced the volume of the Wood Break sound effect.
Reduced the volume of Cassette Tape pickup sound effects.
I've received feedback that some players preferred using the D-Pad for movement, or would like the option to continue using it that way alongside the new Hotkeys system.
I'm currently investigating the best way to support both approaches without compromising the new Hotkeys functionality introduced in Patch 1.8. My goal is to provide players with more flexibility, and I expect to have an update on this in an upcoming patch.
Thank you for all of the feedback and support—it continues to help shape Sanguine with every update!

This update focuses heavily on improving Classic Mode camera angles, a new hotkeys feature, gameplay polish, map/UI accuracy, optimization, and addressing a variety of player-reported issues.
To celebrate Patch 1.8, Sanguine will be 25% off from May 31st through June 3rd! If you've been thinking about jumping into Craven Oaks, now is the perfect time to do so. Thank you for all of the feedback and support that continues to help shape the game!
A large number of early-game fixed camera angles have been updated with the goal of making Classic Mode smoother, more readable, and less frustrating for players.
Updated camera angles in:
Forest/Diner Area
Main St Area
Farm Area
Gas Area
Mobile Homes Area
Additional improvements:
Reduced the overall number of camera transitions in many areas
Adjusted camera positioning throughout early game sections
Replaced several camera angles entirely
Fixed occasional camera transition and camera change issues
Implemented a brand new Hotkeys System.
Players can now assign any weapon in their inventory to one of four Hotkey slots:
Keyboard: 1, 2, 3, 4
Gamepad: D-Pad Up, Right, Down, Left
During gameplay, activating a Hotkey will play a short weapon swap animation, allowing Kris to quickly equip the assigned weapon. Players remain vulnerable while the animation plays.
Hotkeys are completely optional and are displayed beside the Blood Shard counter within the Inventory.
Additional Hotkey Improvements:
Updated the Inventory Tutorial document to explain the Hotkeys system.
Added contextual Hotkey help text within the Inventory. Selecting the prompt will dismiss the hint.
Updated controller binding graphics and all localized controller reference images.
Added support for Hotkeys in both Classic and Modern gameplay modes.
Note: D-Pad functionality on gamepad has changed. The D-Pad no longer controls movement or Inventory navigation. The Left Thumbstick continues to perform those functions, while the D-Pad is now reserved for assigned Hotkeys.
Added a new Break mechanic for breakable wooden boxes and flower pots.
Kris can now destroy these objects without requiring a weapon. A short animation will play while performing the break action, leaving the player vulnerable during use.
Updated how the Inventory Move function works.
Selecting Move and placing an item over another item will now swap their positions.
Added new scene transition animations:
Main St → Mobile Homes
Mobile Homes → 2nd St
2nd St → VHS Shop
VHS Shop → 2nd St
Using any Offer Statue Recall
Updated enemy collision behavior.
This resolves rare situations where enemies could occasionally push the player through walls. It also allows the player to move through most enemies more reliably, reducing situations where players could become trapped.
Added a glow effect to the tutorial medical box.
The glow disappears after its contents are collected.
Added a new message when attempting to use X-Redox without having any remaining.
Localized all item names.
Added animation to the Survivor Stories logo in the Main Menu.
Updated the Gate and Cyrus audio logs to display the cassette tape image on every page.
Updated the initial breakable box triggers in the Forest and Diner areas.
Added Zone Text pop-ups when teleporting to the Blood Shop.
Updated map doors so they correctly display their unlocked state after progression triggers occur.
Updated document viewing options:
When toggling Fonts while viewing a document, the document background will now switch to a semi-transparent black backdrop. This option is intended to be more reminiscent of the original document viewer for players who prefer the previous reading experience.
Removed mouse visibility and interaction feedback from the Inventory screen.
Note: The Inventory currently provides a smoother experience with keyboard and controller input, so mouse functionality has been removed from this screen and the legends have been updated accordingly.
Lighting and shadows have been updated and optimized across multiple areas to improve overall performance:
Forest/Diner Area
Farm Area
Main St Area
Gas Area
Mobile Homes
Maintenance Building
2nd St
Fixed an issue in the Inventory where combining items could temporarily display the previous item's name until changing the highlight state.
Fixed an issue where Tomb reward text animations could overlap when picking up rewards.
Fixed the Watcher Out! Challenge not completing properly.
Fixed the Watcher Out! Steam Achievement so it correctly unlocks only after viewing the final tape.

Removed the incorrect breadbox/open door shadow in the Diner kitchen.
Thank you all for your continued support, feedback, bug reports, suggestions, reviews, streams, videos, and discussions. Every update to Sanguine is shaped by the community, and many of the improvements in Patch 1.8 came directly from player feedback.
As always, thank you for being part of the journey, and I hope you enjoy Patch 1.8!

Due to the scale of changes in this update — including new systems, reworked progression, and major world updates — existing save files are no longer compatible.
We understand this isn’t ideal, but these changes were necessary to improve the overall experience and stability of Sanguine moving forward. This update significantly expands content and systems, and a fresh start will ensure everything functions as intended.

Sanguine — Patch 1.7 Release Date Announced Hello again everyone! I’m excited to officially announce that Patch 1.7 —which we discussed in our previous update—is set to release on: 📅 April 17th 🕖 7:00 PM CST / 8:00 PM EST 🌍 1:00 AM (April 18th) CET / 2:00 AM (April 18th) MSK T

Hello again everyone!
I’m excited to officially announce that Patch 1.7—which we discussed in our previous update—is set to release on:
📅 April 17th
🕖 7:00 PM CST / 8:00 PM EST
🌍 1:00 AM (April 18th) CET / 2:00 AM (April 18th) MSK
This is a major update, and because of the scope of changes, a new save will be required once the patch goes live. Older saves will no longer be compatible.
A lot of core systems have been reworked, improved, or newly implemented, and maintaining compatibility with previous saves would introduce too many issues. This is something we’ve always expected during Early Access—but the good news is: starting fresh will absolutely be worth it.
As shown in the previous post, this update brings a significant amount of new content and improvements—and there’s even more that wasn’t listed there, which I’ll be detailing in the full patch notes at launch.
Russian localization is now fully implemented and working
Japanese localization will not make this build, but is coming soon
Getting Russian fully integrated was a big step forward and has helped pave the way for additional language support moving forward.
End of April → A follow-up polish patch addressing bugs, feedback, and Survivor Stories updates
May (target) →
New & updated Achievements
The first part of Act 3
Including the AlTran Parking Lot boss fight
And a major cinematic cutscene
I wanted to include this content in 1.7, but it’s not quite at the level of quality I’m aiming for yet—so I’m taking the extra time to get it right.
Right now, I’m deep in:
Heavy playtesting to eliminate bugs, crashes, and rough edges
Final cutscene polish for an important story moment
Updating the end credits sequence
Putting together the release trailer and promotional materials
As always—thank you to everyone who has supported Sanguine so far.
Your feedback, testing, and encouragement continue to shape this game in a meaningful way, and it genuinely means a lot.
I can’t wait for you all to jump into Patch 1.7 and experience everything it brings.
See you soon.
