hey guys! long time no see, i've recently been working hard on the next update for solace inc, which you can now try for yourself on the prerelease beta branch!

some major changes i should point out:

most of the game has received a huge UI overhaul, so the game looks and feels a lot more polished
added some new recruits
added a new "arena" gamemode where you can make recruits fight each other (if you want)

this build doesn't contain everything i plan on adding yet, the main thing i've been working on for this update is adding a localization framework by moving most of the game's text into external files so that the game can be localized, i've still got some things to add so it's not complete yet

to access the prerelease build, head over to game versions & beta in the game properties and select "prerelease":

v1.9.1 Update

Since the game was pretty close to beating the current Guinness world record for most playable characters in a video game in the previous update, I decided to go around and ask some people for their characters to bump up the number a bit, and I am proud to say that Solace Inc has finally beaten that milestone!

So uhh... yeah! Take that, obscure wrestling PS2 game!

I sent an application to Guinness World Records just for the hell of it, I doubt I'll hear back from them but it's worth a shot (honestly I don't really care about the record that much, this has mostly been a personal goal that I wanted to achieve with this game)

A lot of the new characters I've added in this update are cameos, some of them are characters that a few people might recognize...?

There's one cameo that I've omitted because I'm still waiting to hear back from a publisher to get their permission, I might put out a small patch that adds them in if they respond

I've also added in a few of my own characters, a certain subset of them have an interesting unlock method that might require some sleuthing and puzzle solving... I won't say much but I will say everything you need is in-game and I would recommend looking at the Synergies tab in the Directory

Also, for the 3 people that have the 18+ DLC I've added in a few bonus animations in the research tab, I haven't touched it in a while and figured I should add some extra stuff there

Community Items

Solace Inc was recently approved for community items (trading cards, badges, emotes, etc.), so I've been working on adding those in and getting them approved, they will be available some time in the very near future! (most likely in the next few days)

I was planning on releasing them alongside this update, but since they're still under review and Valve likes to take their time getting things approved (and will sometimes reject things over small details) I figured I'd just release them whenever they're ready so that I don't have to postpone this update, just wanted to give you guys a heads up in case you suddenly get some trading cards in your inventory

New Characters

This update focuses primarily on adding new recruits, I've added in a ton of new ones which brings the total character count up to 306 as of right now, which is very close to the world record of most playable characters in a video game currently held by Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, which has 327.

My plan was to keep adding in characters until I hit 330, but I ran out of steam and decided to stop at 300, although I may add in more characters in the future to surpass the world record.

In addition to new characters, I've also made a few changes to some of the alternates as well as some balance changes to some of the "older" recruit to match the power creep a little.

Elemental Types

Recruits now have an element type assigned to them, which can be Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Metal, Light, Love, Cosmic, and Null. Elements have one or more weaknesses to other elements and will take extra damage from them.

Battle Power

I've reworked the difficulty a little, difficulty now scales with how many recruits you have unlocked instead of it increasing slightly each mission, so the game now gets harder with each recruit you have unlocked and for missions you haven't beaten yet it will cap out at certain values (ex. on week 1 if you have 50 recruits unlocked it'll only count as if you had 30 or so)

Research for Strength and Vitality now scales with this as well, so you have more upgrades you can spend your money one

I've also added a Battle Power stat, which is an overall representation of how powerful your recruits and enemies are, this stat will appear on the main menu and on the top left during missions, this is to give you a better idea of how powerful your recruits are

Playable Enemies

In addition to Chrono Corp receiving a few buffs such as increased max energy and all troops being playable, I've also added in the option to capture enemies with a Chrono Sphere to unlock them as troops, I've also added in a new Chrono Corp exclusive miniboss that utilizes this

Imposter Recruits

I've also added in a new rare enemy which are Imposter Recruits, they will appear slightly off and if you upgrade their passive they will reveal themselves

Hey gang! Long time no see, just wanted to announce that not only is a new update for Solace Inc coming soon, but a pre-release version is now available for you to check out!

This is a pretty sizable update, so I figured it would be best to put out a pre-release build prior to releasing it so that I can get some feedback, if you'd like to try it out head over to the game properties on Steam and go to Betas > Beta Participation > Prerelease and then verify game files to make sure it downloaded (it should say v1.9 on the title screen)

I'll go into more detail when the update is out, here is the work in progress patch notes for v1.9:

added a bunch of new recruits
added new fusions
added new synergies

Hey gamers! Haven't touched this game in a while, but I'm back with some more content for Solace Inc. 1!

I was originally going to put out an update for April Fool's called the Cutting Board Update, which made some... 'character design changes'

...but Emily held me at gunpoint and made me change it back

so, I had to pivot and added some other stuff that I wanted to add to the game a while back but was too busy working on Solace Inc. 2 to add, so I'm adding it now!

Boss Rush

It's time to prove your worth in the Arena of Champions and fight against an onslaught of foes from the past!

As I've worked on this game I never really had an end goal in sight and didn't plan on there being a 'final' mission, so I've decided to add this in to be a semblance of that

Dissonances

Anyone who's a lore enthusiast may have noticed that there's some characters in this game who canonically shouldn't be fighting alongside each other, so I've decided to fix that!

Dissonances are essentially Anti-Synergies, when certain characters are pair together they still start fighting each other instead of working together

Other stuff

I've also added in the usual stuff that I usually add (new recruits, new dialogue, new synergies, yadda yadda yadda) as well as some balance changes and gameplay adjustments

A major thing I should note is that enemies will no longer parry attacks, as I was working on the Boss Rush mission having to deal with minibosses constantly parrying attacks was a little bit annoying so I decided to remove that entirely, and the achievement along with it

Recruits and minibosses will also sidestrafe when attacking things now, so hopefully that will make combat a little more interesting instead of everyone just standing still while you occasionally jump over bullets and whatnot

That's basically it, this update is sort of a mixture of a late April Fool's update and a Sequel Promo update, hope you enjoy! (I'm also going to be updating the Android version soon, haven't touched that in a while lol)

I meant to release this after the game came out and completely forgot about it (adhd moment), so it's now available to download and listen for yourself!

It doesn't include any of the boss stage themes, those were created by Frogrammer so they're not mine to profit off of (although I do believe he's put it on Spotify)

v1.7.2 Update

I've also released a small update for the game, I've added some new recruits (as always) as well as an update to the Art Gallery mission which includes some new artwork!

Most of it is from Art Fight 2024, I wanted to include them because a bunch of talented artists made art of characters from the game and wanted everyone to see it!
(I've also added some art viewing controls like zooming + panning to make it easier to see certain parts of the pieces)

Solace Inc. 2

Over the past few months or so I've been working on a sequel to Solace Inc, Solace Inc 2!

(It's not really a direct sequel per se, it's just a new game that uses the same settings & characters so I'm calling it one)

I've switched over the using Godot instead of GameMaker Studio 2 and have been teaching myself 3D modelling via Blender and have been enjoying it, I've been wanting to make a proper 3D game for a while now

I'm also planning on it being an online multiplayer game, originally was going to have it be PvP but after doing some research it seems like a lot of indie PvP games tend to die out after a week due to low player counts so I'm probably going to have it be a co-op PvE game instead

It's very barebones and I've only been working on it for a few months so I can't say what the future plans for it are, but I may(?) have a small demo out sometime soon

Solace Inc. v1.7 features a brand-new mode where you can play as Solace Inc.'s rival, Chrono Corp! This isn't just new playable characters, this new mode fundamentally changes how the game overall is played! (It's practically an entirely different game!)

While playing as Chrono Corp:

Troops are recruited through cost at any time instead of levelling up
Level up bar is replaced with an energy bar that builds up when collecting gems
Instead of upgrading actives and passives, Chrono Corp can buy and use Potions, which provide a quick temporary effect, and Artifacts which provide permanent global effects like passives do
There is no maximum amount of troops and you can recruit multiple of the same troop, however troops will perish instead of being stunned
Troops, Potions, and Artifacts all have rarity values (Common, Rare, Epic, & Legendary)
Research upgrades troops individually instead of globally
...and more!

This update also features some new content, such as Week 7 (4 new missions!)

One of the missions is an art gallery featuring artwork by yours truly, and some fanart people have sent me!
