A Silent Desolation has now reached over 50,000 wishlists, a massive thank you to everyone who added the game to their list, shared it around, or simply showed support.
It really helps push the project forward, and I’m excited to share what’s coming next.
Development Status
Most of the core gameplay systems are now in place and functional. The game already features a dynamic inventory and equipment system, a working quest system, as well as dynamic weather, including intense wind and acid rain events. The world is also inhabited by various anomalies that add danger and unpredictability to exploration. These systems form the backbone of the survival experience, and while they’re already implemented, they still require a good amount of polish and debugging to reach the level of quality I’m aiming for.
What’s Left to Build
While most core systems are implemented, several important parts of the game still need to be developed before playtesting can begin.
The most significant element is the main base, which hasn’t been developed yet. This won’t just be a decorative hub it will be a fully modular, upgradeable structure with interconnected systems. Players will gradually reactivate and expand it, unlocking new gameplay possibilities through progression-based modules (such as control rooms, storage, research labs, power nodes, etc.). It’s the heart of the game’s progression, and building it right will take time.
Alongside that, I need to:
- Fill out the interiors of buildings to make them explorable and meaningful,
- Slightly expand the current playable area to improve flow and pacing,
- And build the underground section, including bunkers and mining caves, which will add depth (literally and narratively) to the world.
- All of this should take a few more weeks, as everything needs to be fully integrated, polished, and debugged before being put in players' hands.
Private Playtests Coming Soon
The upcoming private playtests will play a key role in shaping the future of A Silent Desolation.
They’ll help me identify what works, what needs improvement, and how to make the experience as solid and enjoyable as possible.
It's thanks to your feedback during these sessions that I’ll be able to polish and refine the game, making sure every system from base management to exploration feels right.
Once everything has been improved through these community-driven tests, the goal is to deliver a solid, polished public demo during a future Steam Next Fest.
