Hello Oxytone players! Here's what's new in the latest Beacon Update for Oxytone: Players can now place markers (beacons) on the map to highlight important connections or signal dangerous paths.
How to use: Hold the middle mouse button or press Q on the keyboard.
This is a test feature, currently available only on Steam. If well-received, we’ll roll it out to other platforms.
Quality of Life Improvements

Added a new camera control option for laptop users. Hold C and move the mouse or trackpad to adjust the camera position.
Bug Fixes

Fixed objectives not updating on the Pause screen after restarting a level (PC).
Resolved an issue where the discard sound effect played even with volume set to 0% (iOS).
Fixed a crash that occurred when selecting the fourth crystal level and swiping left (iOS).
Corrected trophy display issues on resolutions below 1080p.

In this update, we’ve added some quality-of-life improvements, but most importantly, we’ve made a lot of optimizations to the game. Thanks to this, Potato Mode 🥔 now looks much better and feels less like Potato Mode 🥔!
Main changes and fixes:

Optimized tile rendering.
Improved the on-screen element rendering queue improving drawing optimisation by an average of 20%
Changed the way the pillars on which the tiles are placed are drawn, so they can display in Potato Mode 🥔.
Changed the look of the toggle buttons so that you can see if it is on or off.
Added a pulsing effect to tiles when 10 or fewer remain.
They pulse even more intensely when 3 or fewer remain.
Improved the level selection view that you can now preview the map before playing it. These were the last graphics in the code with the prefix test_*.
Updated the appearance of challenge medals.
This change allowed us to add point values, lengths, and combos achieved during the game.
Further balanced the Crystals-1 level to make it fairer and reduce frustration.

Persistent Combo Music: Combo music will no longer haunt you after a game over.
PlayStation Controller Fixes: PlayStation controller hints were swapped—this has been corrected, so you’re good to go!

New Maps: Introduced 4 crystal levels which modify the core tile acquisition mechanic. Players can now gain tiles by routing through a crystal pillar, earning an additional tile per passage, highlighted with a new animation. New sounds indicating the fill level of the crystal pil
New Maps:

Introduced 4 crystal levels which modify the core tile acquisition mechanic. Players can now gain tiles by routing through a crystal pillar, earning an additional tile per passage, highlighted with a new animation.
New sounds indicating the fill level of the crystal pillar, which serve as a unique combo, granting achievements upon completion.
Each filled crystal pillar rewards six extra tiles, making strategic routing highly beneficial.
Each passage through a crystal pillar increases the score multiplier by 10%, allowing for significant score boosts through strategic planning.
New Features:

Saving Icon - A saving icon now appears on the left side of the screen whenever the game is saved.
Restart Level from
Game Over Screen - Players can now restart the game from the Game Over screen using keyboard or controller input. A dedicated button will be added in a future update.
Turn Off Grid - A new option in the "Unlocks" menu allows players to turn off the grid.
More Sparks - An option to enable more background elements is now available in the "Unlocks" menu.
Multi-color Sparks - Players can now choose multi-color sparks for their background.
Gradient Backgrounds - Four new gradient backgrounds added: "Vibrant Purple," "Crystal Green," "Heavenly Blue," and "Red and Black." More backgrounds will be added with future map packs.
Map Rules Display - The map selection menu now shows the starting tile count and the number of tiles received for filling metal tiles, aiding new players in understanding the game rules.
Changes:

Intro - Updated the game intro to align with console and mobile versions. The intro can now be skipped using buttons, except on the first playthrough.
Background and Path Colors in Unlock Section - Corrected some background colors that did not match their descriptions. Feedback for further improvements is welcome.
Under the Hood:

Prepared for New Maps - Modified the map hierarchy to facilitate the addition of new maps, addressing significant technical debt from the prototype phase.
New Saving System - Redesigned the saving system to reduce data storage and modify only changed data, decreasing the likelihood of corrupted save files, especially beneficial for console versions.
Quality of Life Improvements:

Accelerated Achievement Animation - Players can now speed up the achievement animation at the end of a stage by pressing any button, mouse click, or controller input.
Scrolling in Level Selector - The level selector now scrolls one map at a time, rather than jumping between cards.
Metal Tile Colors - Adjusted the colors of metal tiles to be more distinguishable and less visually jarring against gradient backgrounds. Metal colors are now clearly bronze, silver, and gold.
Tile Animation Overlap - Improved the animation for receiving new tiles to prevent overlap, ensuring clear visibility of the number of tiles received.

Hello! In the latest update, I focused on revamping the settings section in the game, balancing challenges, and removing the holiday mode.
The most important changes:

Christmas removed.
Added the ability to set the volume for sounds and music, because the lack of such an option in a paid game is a scandal.
The balance of some maps has been changed. So it's possible that you've already earned gold, the achievements should be calculated correctly.
Added option for epileptics, no lights flash and some animations play slower.
The behavior of the camera has been changed, now it does not return to its place after 3 seconds, you simply need to make a move on the board for the camera to return. However, if you are used to 3 seconds and back, you can turn it on in the options.
Added the ability to enable high contrast trails. They are not as beautiful as the basic ones, but they make it easier for people with poor eyesight to untangle the most tangled routes.
The display of frames per second and actual frames per second has appeared in Options. This will make it easier to adjust the quality to the power of your computer.
Some background and trail themes have been modified to be more contrasting
The current track length and maximum combo are shown in the pause menu.
Bug fixes:

Addressed minor bugs and probably introduced some new ones... Report them on the Steam forum or Discord!

Hi! Today's small update fixes several critical bugs that did not affect most players. Read it for fun if you want.
Bug fixes:

Connecting certain types of controllers caused the game to hang when starting. Now you can have your steering wheel connected and play Oxytone!
When you restart the level in pyramid mode - once you have obtained the pyramid boost - this boost disappears. You wouldn't have passed these levels without the metal tiles anyway!
Optimized the drawing of the Trophies section, why draw all 99 achievements when only a few fit on the screen?
Trophies and Unlocks screens were breaking the fourth wall at resolutions other than 16:9, this is the third time I've fixed it, hopefully the last.
What's new:

Added a small surprise for players who obtained 4 gold cards. No one has done this before, but now you have one little surprise more motivation.

Control hints display for a longer duration.
Control hints now appear in the Options menu.
Improved clarity of descriptions in the Unlocks section.
Added Snow Mode.
Low settings mode now looks a bit nicer and is more efficient.

Hi! In today's post, I'll give you an overview of the game's pricing policy and future updates.
Price Policy
This part is for those considering purchasing the game and waiting for promotions. The current base price of Oxytone is $12.99 / €12.79 (other prices follow the Steam grid). For the next six months, the game won't be on sale for more than 20%, reflecting ongoing development and expanding content. We aim to participate in at least one themed festival in 2024.
Future Updates
Stability!
Two weeks after its release, Oxytone is stable, with all reported issues addressed promptly in collaboration with players. We've released 5 patches, including new features and significant improvements.

Screenshot mode - allowing players to showcase their completed maps and share screenshots on Steam in our community center
Improved controller support
Bug fixes related to achievements

More Challenges

Performance
Q1 is also the time for significant optimizations. We plan to drastically improve performance and adjust quality modes, ensuring more players can enjoy Oxytone at 60 FPS.
Steam Deck
While I don't have a Steam Deck physically, I'll be working on an appropriate version to provide the best experience for such devices.
Other Platforms
Efforts are underway to bring the game to other gaming platforms. More information later this year!
