Hello everyone! Long time, no updates. Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone who has played Brews & Bastards since its launch in September last year. It means the world to us that people could finally play the game after almost 5 years in development.

Now, We had updates planned at the end of 2025 which we had hoped to get out in November and December. While we made good progress on these updates, they turned out to be more work than we had anticipated! A little bit of burnout and a little bit of holidays kicked in and they had been pushed back till now. I apologize for the lack of communication and delay!

The good news is that we've rolled all these updates into one big one! The Happy Hour update is coming soon (like real soon (like this week hopefully)). I'm here to show and tell some of the new things in this announcement, so here we go.

Pub Crawl

The biggest update coming to the game is the Pub Crawl Mode. This is our perma-death Rogue-lite mode, where each room / enemy / item/ shop spawn is randomly generated. Players have options to customize the length and difficultly of each run as well. Bosses from the campaign will remain to challenge you in their amplified tavern game-themed arenas!

We're excited to see people take on this version of the Muneshine Tavern, trying the new items and challenging themselves in the drunken depths!

Brews and Artifacts

Along with the brand new Pub Crawl mode are a hand picked selection of delicious New Brews and powerful New Artifacts. Here is a taste of just some of the new items you'll find under the tavern.

Ice Cubes summon (surprisingly) big cubes of ice that bounce around and freeze enemies.

Bottlecopters float around the player and blast enemies with corks.

Fireball is perfect for setting everything in an area ablaze.

Quality of Life

Since launch we've been gathering feedback and making progress on various quality of life changes. Here are the major QoL additions coming in the Happy Hour Update.

Control Rebinds - A big ask from lots of players and something we would have loved to get in at launch. Now you can rebind all of the keyboard and gamepad controls your heart desires.
Single Stick Mode - Hate twin stick games? Well now you can play Brews & Bastards with a Single Stick! Head over to the settings menu to enable single stick mode and use your other hand for whatever else you want.
Playstation Controller Icons - While the game was playable with a Playstation controller previously, we only displayed Xbox controller icons. Now you can go to the settings menu and select the icons that match your controller!
Enemy/Item Balancing - We tweaked some stuff here and there, maybe it's better, maybe you hate it. Come and tell us on Discord if we did something unforgivable.

There are also a bunch of smaller changes that we've made since launch that make the game run and play better. We love to work on video games WOW.

A STORY ABOUT SOME GLORIOUS BASTARDS AND A COUPLE O' BREWS

As we draw nearer to the release of Brews & Bastards (final quarter 2025), we thought we'd shed some light on the game, like, "who are the Bastards?" and "what are the Brews?". Well, I think there's a bit of a Bastard in all of us, but more on that later.

Let's start with the story. The almighty Brew Stone, a powerful gem with infinite booze generating power, has been stolen. Snatched from the Brewstone Chalice which had so graciously replenished our heroes after a day of hard yakka. Who could have stolen the Brew Stone? The heroes must descend to the dungeons to find out who took it and, more importantly, retrieve the Brew Stone - god forbid they start sobering up.

The tale of our heroes is narrated by a charming little fellow from the tavern aptly named Martin Teeny🐁. Oh and there's a big handsome bartender, the "Beartender"🐻, who will keep you topped up with fresh brews on your journey.

🍺PLAYABLE CHARACTERS (Bastards)🍺

Remember how I said there's a bastard in all of us? Well some of us are good bastards (complementary) and some are bad bastards (derogatory). But let's start with our beloved Bastards - the four playable characters you can choose from before you descend to the dungeons below.

Each with their own unique styles and abilities, the playable characters are: Rhine - the Rieslinger, Oak - the Keggernaught, Mugg - the Meadmancer, and last but not least, Chugg - the Beerzerker.

Try out each character in single player or see them all in action with up to 4 player local co-op!

👿ENEMIES (also Bastards)👿

Down in the dungeons you will have to fight waves of drunken Bastards (derogatory) - nasty amalgamations of crusty old booze and brewing equipment. Sentient kegs with misshapen legs and foul Jell-O Shots with minds of their own are common down in the depths.

👹BIG BASTARDS (Bosses)👹

During your drunken mission, you'll butt heads with a bunch of Big Bastards, each with their own unique theme and gameplay mechanics. Sneak a lil' sip of this Big Bastard:

🍸Brews, Artifacts & Shards of the Brewstone 🍸

Brews are powerful abilities which you can wield to destroy the oncoming hordes of enemies. Artifacts are passive items, buffing you and providing aid. Both can be attained from the Beartender Shop for ingredients or traded for at special monuments called Wine Shrines. They can also be upgraded at Cocktail Forges.

🧊 Brew Stone Shards 🧊

Brew stone shards are your classic, permanent player upgrade. You'll be given a random selection to choose from. Choose wisely... Or quickly snatch the one you want before your bastard "friend" sitting next to you all smug on the couch takes it.
