- Bubbles ("+1 Pressured", "Test: Horses → Failed") will now be read off in the correct order and only get read once.
- Self-voicing will no longer get confused by lines starting with a - ("-1 Afraid") on Linux.
- A bug, introduced in the engine upgrade, where translations of lines containing double spaces wouldn't usually work right has been fixed.
- Some text that wouldn't translate is now translated.
- New strings added to the translation template, mostly for text-to-speech. We also added some previously-missing strings. You can get the updated translation file or see the diffs at

Many sections reworked to use screen language so that the above would be possible, so please let us know if you encounter strange errors anywhere in the game.
Other changes:
Candidate fix for a crash translating strings with {tag=} in them. Appears to have only affected translations.
Work around a crash syncing Steam stats if the API failed to get the death count.

We've been testing this for a while but it's a BIG change and big changes can cause a little bit of chaos - please check in on the discussion thread here if you run into any problems so we can get right into fixing it.
The old version IS still available if needed but it's important to report problems so we can fix them first.

I've tested it a little myself but this is changing the engine so much that we did run into some really WEIRD bugs - we've fixed all the ones we know about but more eyeballs are definitely appreciated here.
You can access the beta by right-clicking on the game in tyour library and selecting Properties, then Betas, then select the relevant one from the dropdown (beta - Testing engine upgrade, December 2025)
Global changes:
Engine upgrade. The game now runs under Ren'Py 8.5.x. This drops compatibility with some older machines (however, the Steam client doesn't work on those anyhow) and should work better on newer machines. When the new version movea to stable, we will create an extra beta branch so you can switch back to the older engine if you're running on a computer where the old engine worka better than the new one.
Cloud save support (still in testing).
LLtQ 1.5 should be able to load old saves, however, older versions of the game will not be able to load 1.5 saves. There may still be some old saves that don't load in 1.5; if you encounter a save that crashes in 1.5 but works in an older version, let us know.
Video preferences screen improved.
Minor UI cleanup.
Epilogue window updates now propagate over Steam instead of being limited to the machine you're playing on.
Logfiles saved after you die will be saved as defeat.html instead of victory.html.
Added a Galaxy Princess Zorana image to the bonus image gallery.
Windows-specific changes:
Onscreen keyboard improved.
Fix crash saving HTML logs if there were non-ASCII cahracters in the path the log was saved to.
Fix to a couple achievement-unlock bugs.
Typo fixes.
KNOWN ISSUES:
1.5 breaks translation support. It is planned to fix this in 1.5.1, though there is a possibility that some translation files will need to be updated to work right in the new engine. It's fine to report issues you encounter with translation but just be aware that this is totally expected right now. It's in progress.
(1.5.1 is now available so translation should be possible again, see the discussion thread for details)

What does the future hold for the LLTQ universe? Well, right now there are still some stretch goal elements from the Zorana kickstarter which are intended to be added as free updates to the game next year. After that, I'm going to need to take a break from political backstabbing and work on something a little simpler for a while.
Will there ever be a third game in this bundle? Might we someday return to Nova? It's not impossible... but nothing is planned right now!

Basically, one achievement (Unexpected Pairing - the commoner romance) was not syncing correctly between the steam account and the local copy, so if you'd unlocked it on Steam and then played the game on another computer, your in-game copy wouldn't show that achievement until you unlocked it on THAT machine.
This has now been corrected to work like the other achievements do.
Nothing else should be affected, but if you encounter any strange behavior please do let us know.
As for Galaxy Princess Zorana, the game development is actually VERY advanced at this point, what's holding us back from launching a KS and starting beta tests is trailer development rather than game development. We've had a few pipeline issues getting a cool trailer made and we don't want to launch that without one. Hang in there, I promise the game is still proceeding as planned!

Yes. Even though we're starting off in a different place and time, anyone who's played the first game will quickly see connections to the original setting, though it will take some exploration to find out more.
No. This game is far removed in space and time from the original story. Elodie is a distant historical figure only.
Probably! There are dozens of different characters who are capable of plotting your demise if you upset them and those assassinations can occur at any point, on top of all the story-related ways you can meet your doom.
It's not that kind of game. It's still very much LLTQ, but with a bigger map to move around on and more characters to negotiate with. You will still be picking classes, changing outfits, and managing moods.
Too much to cover but to mention a few things - skillcheck bubbles now give an indication of roughly how difficult any test was so that you have an idea of how much you'd need to train to pass it, you can hire advisors to provide certain skills for you if you don't have time to learn them, menu choices have a 'random' option if you can't make up your mind or just want to do a silly see-what-happens playthrough... Beyond that you should really go check out the new game page and ask in the discussions over there!
Sorry, I don't have a launch date yet. It is still in development. I am hoping for a kickstarter soon and the beta-test period to begin soon after that and then we'll see. It's not quite playable end-to-end at this point but there's many hours of playable content already.

I had serious hopes that I was going to be able to unveil the new game's steam page to you during the sale but unfortunately it is still in review (well, it IS the holidays after all) so for now I can only tease you with this:
If you haven't heard of this before, this is a new game in the same universe as Long Live The Queen, the protagonist is the daughter of the recently-vanished Evil Emperor, and yes there will be skills to learn and deaths to avoid and politics to unravel. The Steam page SHOULD be available in the next couple of weeks with more information and screenshots. Watch this space (well, watch this game) for updates!

I know some of you have been wondering for a while what's going on with Galaxy Princess Zorana. Simple answer: a LOT of writing got done, a lot of artwork is now being done, expect more formal announcements early next year as things come together. But the more exciting answer...
