To celebrate the announcement of The Bleakest Keep, Slay the Minotaur is on discount this week! The Bleakest Keep is a lot like Slay the Minotaur but with its own twist. The Bleakest Keep is a dark fantasy action roguelike. This time you must slay a multitude of horrors as you climb your way to the top of the tower to kill a dark wizard.
For The Bleakest Keep, I wanted to lean more into horror. A lot of players found Slay the Minotaur to be pretty frightening, so I want to make this game feels a bit more spooky in atmosphere as well as gameplay. Not really terrifying, but I do hope to scare you a little bit!
I also want this game to be more random. Slay the Minotaur had plenty of randomness, but it was also purposely not as random as a lot of other roguelikes. I don't want to share too much yet, but I am trying out different kinds of ways to randomize the game this time around.
Now that the game is announced, I'm hoping to share updates on The Bleakest Keep more frequently. Following on YouTube and Twitter/X is the best place to stay updated!

Added unlockable summer outfits for Aphrodite and the Minotaur!
Changes
Asterion's Spare Axe's description has been updated.
Bug Fixes
Fixed level 2 gorgons and cyclopes having their increased speed disabled after talking with Aphrodite.
Fixed restarting from the pause menu failing to reset the amount of times you were hit from your previous attempt.
Fixed Temporary Statue spawning on top of Drop of Nectar when both are bought from the same shop.
Hitting pause should now close item descriptions.
While Bottle Acceleration was active, using the Horn of Asterion and equipping another item while the horn was active could remove the newly equipped item instead of the horn. This has been fixed.
This is just a tiny patch that fixes some bugs! Thanks for playing! Bug Fixes and Changes If you have fast restart and remember recent names enabled, you can restart an attempt in the pause menu. Your camera settings will save between attempts. Asterion's Spare Axe and the Spear

If you have fast restart and remember recent names enabled, you can restart an attempt in the pause menu.
Your camera settings will save between attempts.
Asterion's Spare Axe and the Spear of Ares
Invincibility when using special attack decreased. This change is more noticeable when using the Spear of Ares.
Brightened some areas of the labyrinth.
Fixed the Cyclops Slayer and Gorgon Slayer achievements activating while playing Endless Mode.
Second Patch Bug Fixes
Right after releasing the first patch I discovered a serious bug when you restocking the store. As long as you had at least 250 pearls you could restock the store. This could even give you a negative amount of pearls. This has now been fixed!
I'm planning on adding at least one more outfit for both Aphrodite and the Minotaur at a later date. The theme is summer, Beach Aphrodite and Lifeguard Minotaur!

THE SECOND UPDATE!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BggsCw-OTDI
If you want to help support me and my game, the best thing you can do is subscribe to my YouTube channel, follow me on Twitter, and leave a review on Steam! Although this might be the last Slay the Minotaur content update, this does help me continue to work on new games!
I also want to say thanks for playing! Even though I keep saying this is probably the last content update, it is still possible I may return to work on the game again, but don't expect another major content update to happen unless I say I am definitely working on one! I'm very happy with how much content the game offers right now, and I think everything is in a good place.
Now, because this may be the last Slay the Minotaur update, the best place to know what I do next will be to follow on YouTube and Twitter. So if you love the game and want to know what comes next and haven't followed there, you really should!
Thanks for playing, everyone! I hope you'll join me in whatever I end up doing next! But for now, please enjoy the update!
New
Extra Endless Mode Added
This is an extra game mode where you can fight enemies in waves that become stronger and stronger! I hope people like this extra mode, but it is still just an extra mode and not the main event. I think it is pretty good practice for the main mode, and it is a fun way to try out combinations you may not normally try in the main mode!
Outfits
Aphrodite has 4 unlockable outfits, and the Minotaur has 3 unlockable outfits! You will need to complete challenges to unlock them!
Cloaks
After slaying the Minotaur with an A rank, you can equip a cloak and even choose from a selection of colors!
Wings
If you slay the Minotaur in under 10 minutes, you can equip wings on your feet! They also come in a selection of colors, but you can increase the amount of color the faster you slay the Minotaur!
Fast Restart and Name Saving
A lot of players wanted a faster way to get back into the game. Before you enter the labyrinth, you can enable these options. The fast restart will immediately send you back to the name your character menu. Saving your most recent names will also let you start a new attempt faster. The game over screen can now be skipped by pressing the parry button.
New Aphrodite Dialogue
Aphrodite has some new dialogue and animations. Most of these are triggered after certain conditions are met and will probably not be seen very often.
Camera Controls
When starting a new attempt, you will see a notification for your camera. This also appears when adjusting the camera. It seemed like some players didn't notice that the camera can be adjusted, so hopefully this will remind players.
Changes
Weapons and Helmets
Spartan's Surge will now knock down enemies.
The Ares Spear will give you a moment of invincibility when first activated.
The Blade of Apollo's description has been updated.
The Asterion's Spare Axe special attack will give you invincibility after the initial windup.
The Helmet of Zeus no longer interrupts your movement.
The Argonaut Blade's special attack and normal attacks have had their speed increased.
The description for the Helm of Ares now clarifies that it stuns only zombies.
Aphrodite's Shop
Special Roll has been made cheaper and is now only 200 pearls.
Enemies
A defeated enemy will continue to despawn and drop pearls while talking to Aphrodite.
Tanks with Poseidon's Trident have had their water wave attack timing adjusted.
The cyclops ground slam can now be parried.
The Minotaur no longer has a fire attack and instead will shoot a lightning bolt that can be parried. I felt like the fire attack was too unavoidable and annoying. Now the Minotaur shoots a lightning bolt. This also means every attack can now be parried!
Corrected Tanks in the tutorial saying they could drop Bottled Fortune when they do not. Previous patch notes incorrectly said this as well.
Items
Revive has been changed to revive you no matter how you died.
Bottled Acceleration and Temporary Statue now show you how long they last. They will also pause while speaking with Aphrodite.
When collecting a large pearl, a message will now tell you that zombies drop more pearls.
Other Changes
You can now skip the game over screen by pressing the parry button.
"View Details" has been changed to "Enlarge Details" to remind players they can increase the size of an item's description.
How to earn ranks has been added to the rankings menu.
The options menu can now be accessed while playing.
The X axis and Y axis can now be separately inverted in the options menu.
The align attacks option has been changed to automatically adjust if you are using a gamepad or keyboard. You can still change it to your preferred option. This should help gamepad players who did not know this was a setting the most.
You will now be asked to play the tutorial when starting the game.
The tutorial has been updated.
More hints have been added or changed.
The extra modes have been moved to the challenges and extras menu.
Brightened some areas of the labyrinth.
Flattened some of the rocky cliff areas of the labyrinth.
Bug Fixes
Fixed purchasing Restock not counting towards total coins spent at Aphrodite's shop.
Fixed killing Tanks not counting towards Aphrodite's affinity level.
Fixed the Sword of Apollo's healing being stopped if you attacked while active.
Fixed lightning attacks aimed directly at enemies sometimes passing through.
A rare glitch where, after you are turned to stone, you never return to normal should be fixed.
A rare glitch where the main menu won't load from the results screen should be fixed.
Fixed some item descriptions not scaling correctly.
Fixed selecting random mode saying it was still locked even if requirements were met.
If you get stuck after being knocked back in the air, it will now adjust and should get you unstuck.
Fixed some spots where the Minotaur could get stuck.

I'm working on the second Slay the Minotaur update! Please watch the short video below!
This update will probably be the last Slay the Minotaur update. I may return to it someday, but for now, this will be the last major update. So if you want to keep up with what I'll be doing later, it is very important that you follow me on those other platforms!
Please remember that some of the things I talk about may never be added to the game. I just want to share some things I am testing and what is likely to be in this upcoming update.
Endless Waves Endless Waves is what it sounds like. You fight enemies in waves, and the more waves you complete, the more challenging they become! This mode is pretty simple and is a good way to try out different gear combinations and get familiar with the game's combat. I'm not locking rewards behind it though, as this is just a fun extra mode not to be taken that seriously like the Heracles and Aphrodite modes, but the amount of waves you survive is recorded. At the start of each wave, you must pick a weapon or a helmet and then upgrade your abilities. Healing will remove your equipped gear. When you start each wave, there is a chance the arena will change!
Unlockables You may also remember that I once mentioned adding unlockable outfits to the game. I mentioned the ideas of a Cowgirl Aphrodite, and giving cowboy hats to the player character. It turns out Aphrodite is by far the easiest character to make alternate outfits for. This is because she is human and isn't directly involved in the gameplay. Making unlockable outfits for the player and Minotaur has been far more challenging. The Minotaur is half human, and because the player is randomly generated, it is hard to make unlocks always match well. I actually did make the cowboy hats, but they looked so out of place with the ancient Greek armor that I decided not to add them.
Cloaks and Wings I actually wanted cloaks for a long time, but I was having trouble making them look good. I am thinking I may allow some kind of customization to the cloak, such as choosing a color or other details. I'll have to see how well I can incorporate something like that.
Another cosmetic idea I had was to give players winged feet if they complete the game in under a certain amount of time. These I do not feel as confident about. I think you don't actually see the player's feet enough for them to be interesting. I've experimented with adding visual trails to the feet, but I think it comes off as distracting. These probably need more work, but I would also say they are the most likely not to happen. Although I did like the idea that the faster you go, they would change, so whoever has the fastest time would also have the brightest wings or something like that.
The update should be out in May.
This is planned to be the last update, but I am not ruling out the possibility of returning to the game. I mostly just need a break from it! I'd also really like to start making other games. So again, please follow me on Twitter or subscribe to my YouTube channel if you want to know what I end up doing in the future! This kind of support off of Steam helps future games even before they get a store page!
For now, this upcoming update should be treated as the last major content update to expect. Thanks for playing!

Bug Fixes and Changes
Demeter's Harvest will now recharge and heal faster, but it does not heal as much. Your speed has also been further decreased.
The Helmet of Zeus traps will now explode when an enemy touches them.
Fixed the Sword of Apollo not hitting multiple enemies.
Fixed the shop not correctly scaling.
Hopelite Defense Helmet should now work as intended.
Fixed not being able to pick up items if you were hit while using the Horn of Asterion.
Fixed the Hermes Helmet not disabling when hitting the special move while active.
Removed a floating dead body by the tower.
Fixed a broken state bug.
Fixed some collision problems.
Fixed some areas where the Minotaur would get stuck.

These 3 things help out the most when it comes to helping the game grow. YouTube and Twitter are great places for me to give updates on Slay the Minotaur and whatever else I make!
If you follow any YouTubers or Streamers who you think would be interested in the game and they take suggestions, please suggest Slay the Minotaur to them!
After this update, I want to release at least one more. I'll share some ideas below. However, if the game continues to do well, it is likely I will update it further.
New
Random Mode added.
This extra challenge is unlocked after slaying the Minotaur at least once and makes the labyrinth far more random. Chests are more varied, Aphrodite will not always be in the same locations, and other random changes. This mode is for those who want more randomness and a greater challenge. Random Mode comes with its own Ranks and Times!
Aphrodite now sells 4 new things!
Special Roll replaces your jump with a dedicated roll button. It doesn't refill as quickly, but it will allow you to roll while having different helmets equipped. It can also be activated by using your special move while it is recharging, but this can be changed in the options menu.
Sunlight is a 1 time purchasable item from Aphrodite that will allow you to stun the Minotaur and have him lose track of you. This item was very hard to balance. At first, I felt it cost too little, so I bumped up the price. But that still felt too cheap. Sunlight will cost 600 pearls. However, if you are being chased by the Minotaur, make enough distance and reach Aphrodite, it will only cost 100 pearls. I feel this makes it so the item isn't something that makes sense to buy right away, but is available if you are that afraid of the Minotaur. This also means the best way to escape the Minotaur is to reach Aphrodite and spend 100 pearls.
Teleport will allow you to leave a point of interest and teleport back to it, as long as you don't pick up any other items while it is active.
Temporary Statue will stop you from being stunned by damage for 30 seconds, but damage is not reduced.
Tanks have been added as a rare zombie.
They are a tougher enemy that can attack you with lightning or water waves. When defeated, they can drop either 600 pearls, a Drop of Nectar, Bottled Acceleration, Bottled Fortune, or a large pearl.
Some more beards and armor have been added to increase variety.
You can now cap your frame rate.
You can now remap your gamepad.
Changes
The Aphrodite Crown and the Silver and Gold Defense Helms have had their recharge time increased.
The Silver and Gold Defense Helms were a little too strong. They were made for taking damage, but it was also too easy to avoid damage. They are still both very strong choices.
The Minotaur's footsteps should be easier to hear.
If you buy an item from Aphrodite's shop and you don't already have an item equipped, it will be instantly equipped for you.
Bottled Acceleration will no longer change the speed of your parry, making it easier to parry attacks.
You will now see a message telling you if Aphrodite's shop is closed.
The lighting at Aphrodite's shop and while speaking with her has been changed to be more consistently lit.
Typing on your keyboard while naming your character will now automatically start typing regardless of whether you interacted with the virtual keyboard.
Spartan Surge recharge time has been decreased. The description has now been updated to correctly mention that hitting enemies midair will deal extra damage and instantly regain your specials.
Hoplite Defense's ability has been improved.
Exiting from the pause menu will now ask you if you are sure before exiting.
Cyclopes will now also kick when at low health.
Revive will now make the Minotaur lose track of you. Falling into a chasm will no longer revive you.
Removed the archers that would spawn on top of maze walls at the center of the labyrinth.
Bug Fixes
Getting stuck after being hit by heavy damage should be far less likely to happen.
Fixed the Twisted Blade having an incorrect description when viewing gear.
Using the Horn of Asterion while Bottled Acceleration is active will no longer stop the horn.
The Minotaur’s skull projectile now faces the correct way.
Fixed a problem where players could get stuck on a cyclops.
Fixed a few spots where the Minotaur could get stuck.
And that's the update! You are welcome to share your feedback!
Possible Future Stuff
I wanted to share some of my other ideas. Please tell me what you think, because it will be easier to decide on if I should add them in the future. Just to make sure everyone is on the same page, none of these are guaranteed to happen. They are just ideas and things I have been experimenting with.
Horde Mode
This has had the most work done. I was originally thinking the first update would be the horde mode, but after some tests, I was finding it to not be very fun. It would be set in a large colosseum, and you would need to survive each wave. I think there is fun to be had as a completely separate mode, but it is going to need a lot more reworking. I'm also not sure how many people care about a mode like this either.
Challenges and Unlocks
I was thinking of adding something similar to challenges or hidden things you could find in the labyrinth that could unlock some special outfits. For example, I thought "rancher" unlocks would be funny because you are "wrangling" a cow which made me think of a Cowgirl Aphrodite, Farmer Minotaur, and replace all the helmets with cowboy hats. If I do something like this, I'd want to keep unlocks as close to the Greek theme as possible, so something like that would probably be considered a very hard to unlock to earn. I think adding some unlockable cosmetics would be a fun extra challenge for players who have played multiple times.
More Character Customization
This update adds some more beards and armor for the player, but I was wondering if people want more variety. I don't know if I will let you create your own character because I do like having each character be random. If I do unlocks, maybe I could have it be a challenging unlock you can earn. I've also considered adding female characters rather than just male, but I decided to do male only because it was almost twice as much work. But I may try again.
Minotaur Mode
I've thought about a mode where you play as the Minotaur and need to kill the heroes instead. It would be a ton of work and possibly not even be fun, but I may give it a try.
A Second Labyrinth
I'm sure players would enjoy a second labyrinth. If I do make another, it will take a very long time.
I'm working on an update for Slay the Minotaur that will add some new content! Please watch the short video below! Thanks again so much to everyone who has played the game! I am hoping that this update will be ready by early April. If you would like to help support the game the b

Thanks again so much to everyone who has played the game! I am hoping that this update will be ready by early April. If you would like to help support the game the best thing you can do is subscribe on YouTube, Follow on Twitter and leave a review on Steam! This helps the game grow and allows me to keep updating the game with new content.
I can't work on the game forever though. After this update releases I still want to try and do at least one more bigger update. I don't know what it will be! I was previously working on a horde mode, but I am unsure if it is worth continuing. It has felt stuck being either too easy or too hard, so I'm probably going to need to change a lot of it if I want to make it work. That isn't to say another update will be a horde game mode.
This upcoming update will include 2 new items. One of which will allow you to stun the Minotaur and run away. A lot of people were requesting some way to escape the Minotaur. After some testing a one time item feels like the right call. A teleport item is also being added. It's very situational, but it adds more variety to the items you can use.
The Tank enemy is also being added for more variety. They are a rare enemy and not as tough as they look, but they help shake up fighting with the regular zombies.
The random mode should be great for players who want an extra challenge. The maze layout will stay the same, but Aphrodite, chests and all sorts of things will be swapped. This should add even more replayability and will include its own rankings for best time and best rank!
The update will also include bug fixes and smaller changes.

New
The tower has been slightly reworked. There is a new stairway and each level has been slightly tweaked.
Parrying a gorgon's eye attack can now be sent back and it can turn them into stone instead!
After defeating a cyclops you can now walk through them as their death animation plays.
You can view your currently equipped gear in the pause menu.
Inverted Controls added to options.
Bug Fixes
The Enyo game crashing bug should finally be fixed. The Helm of Enyo should now be able to spawn 10 Enyos without crashing!
The Minotaur killing a gorgon or cyclops will no longer give you the achievement.
Audio settings will now save correctly.
Fixed some spots where the Minotaur could get stuck.

I hope everyone is still enjoying the game! I'm releasing a second update to fix some problems. If you come across any issues while playing you can leave them here!
New
Hints have been added at the name your character screen that will offer some advice.
The tutorial now has a section that gives more details on zombie behavior.
The tutorial will now make clear how much health and how many pearls enemies drop.
Added sensitivity options for gamepad.
The results screen will now tell you how many hits you took.
Bug Fixes and Changes
The Enyo Helm has been changed after a reported game crashing bug. You can no longer spawn multiple Enyos. Activating your special while Enyo is summoned will now cause an explosion around her to deal more damage.
It should now be much harder to get stuck on edges when knocked off bridges.
The flames on the Fire of Prometheus have been changed to increase visibility.
The extra Aphrodite and Heracles modes can now be unlocked by slaying the Minotaur 3 times or with an A rank.
I hope you are all enjoying Slay the Minotaur and that some of you can now call yourselves Minotaur Slayers! Thanks to everyone who has played and shared their feedback. This update is a mix of changes that you should find helpful as well as a few bug fixes! New You can now remap
I hope you are all enjoying Slay the Minotaur and that some of you can now call yourselves Minotaur Slayers! Thanks to everyone who has played and shared their feedback. This update is a mix of changes that you should find helpful as well as a few bug fixes!
New
You can now remap your input keys! (RIP B to jump)
The use and inspect gear key is now shown when you are near a chest or weapon to remind you which buttons to press and that you can view the item stats clearly and at your own pace.
You can now inspect chest to see what gear you have a chance of getting from them. Each chest has a defined loot pool already (Weapon I always gives level 1 weapons) but this should be helpful when new to the game and you are unsure what can be found in which chest.
Bug Fixes and Changes
Some collision has been changed around the bridge area so you won't get stuck if pushed off.
More rocks have been added to the labyrinth to make it more clear that there is a dead end. This is most noticeable by the tower.
The Spartan's Spear not dropping from the Weapon I chest has been fixed.
Throwable daggers and discuses now properly upgrade their damage when buying Strength of the Hero.
The Herculean achievement can no longer be achieved during the tutorial.
Thanks again for playing! If you would like to share your feedback I highly suggest leaving a review or posting in the steam discussions!
Slay the Minotaur is now available on Steam! Watch the trailer and jump into the labyrinth and see if you can survive a battle with the Minotaur! Thank you and enjoy the game!
