MORE DETAILS:

The game will be launching on February 21st for $9.99, with a 20% discount for the first two weeks (so $7.99 in practice).
It features three maps, fifteen biomes, sixteen boats, thirty weapons, and 150ish fish to catch. If playtests are anything to go by, this results in somewhere around 30-60 hours of content for completionists.
It ALSO features a storyline exploring the Fisherman’s cosmic debt. To resolve this debt, you’ll need to delve into the eldritch waters beneath the earth, learn arcane rituals, and slay the Leviathan before it consumes you.
It’s about five times larger than SNAKE FARM? At least. There’s a LOT of content here, including a full metaprogression system and fourteen separate game-bending lures which augment builds and give access to special ultra-rare bounties.
If the game launches well, I have plans for multiple free content expansions with new maps, boats, weapons, and more! The first content expansion will be called WOMEN WANT ME.
I will be taking down the free demo when the game launches. This isn’t because I’m opposed to free demos, but because the demo will corrupt newer saves and completely erase 90% of your progress if you try to open it after opening the main game. There’s no way around this outside of completely remaking the demo, which I probably… do not have time to do.
That being said, if you played the demo, the game should remember your progress when you start the full game, and unlock anything you would’ve unlocked at your current level of progression!
Thank you for reading, and thank you for playing SNAKE FARM! In my opinion, this sequel accentuates the best aspects of the first game, while providing a much broader playing space to explore. What if SNAKE FARM had a giant subterranean ocean, and what if that ocean were filled with magic squid, and what if you could smack those squid with a huge anchor that's tied to your submarine? Hey, snake farmers! It's been a while. With the one-year anniversary of SNAKE FARM's launch next week, and the sequel to SNAKE FARM dropping its demo soon, I thought it'd be a good idea to show this game some love. On to the patch notes!
Proper controller twin-stick targeting
This has been a constant request since the game came out, and I really don't have an excuse for not implementing it until now (seriously it took like maybe three hours to get it working smoothly, I shoulda done this ages ago). Since I want to keep backwards compatibility with the community Steamdeck setup, activating gamepad targeting must be done in the options menu.
Bundled with this, you can now fire with RT, so both your thumbs are free for moving/aiming. Video games!
Steam Trading Cards
Another regular request, I'm excited to announce that SNAKE FARM now has Steam Trading Card support! With tons of cool backgrounds as rewards! Here's a sample of some of them:

It's basically like SNAKE FARM, but instead of snakes, it's fish, and instead of a farm, it's a huge lake full of eldritch secrets, and instead of being fated to explode after ten days because you're made of shoddy secondhand parts, you're doomed to immortality until you can pay off a cosmic debt millennia in the making. Basically, I took all the lessons learned from making SNAKE FARM and put them towards making something bigger, better, and weirder. I think you'll really like it.

To give an example of the card-based tactical Friendship Encounter system: Let's say you're trying to mediate an argument between two other goats. Things are getting heated, and it's up to you to keep the peace. Depending on how you've built your character, you might...

Approach with caution, starting with small talk with one goat to build rapport and take their attention away from the argument, and tamping down their anger until they give up the argument. At that point, you can focus on the other goat, suggesting that they apologize; with luck, they'll do so, resolving the encounter.
Wade into the argument by starting a completely new fight. Once you're the center of attention, you can start to resolve that argument by apologizing for the mess you caused. Of course, if you're not careful, you might end up losing your head...
Get at the real issue as quickly as possible by poking at touchy subjects. Sure, there's an argument happening, but is anger really the problem? Or is there an underlying grief that needs to be resolved?
Completely ignore the argument, shouting "NICE WEATHER WE'RE HAVING, HUH" at louder and louder volumes until everyone else gives up trying to have a conversation.
All the while, you need to handle your own emotions; if you're not careful, you'll become the problem.
Outside of encounters, there's the town of Friendship Valley to explore, filled with colorful characters and surreal mysteries. Make friends, pick up quests, and learn new negotiation strategies, all while trying to hold the entire town together with your bare hooves.
This is a big departure from Snake Farm on an aesthetic and mechanical level, but I hope you're willing to take the leap with me. I promise it'll be worth it. <3

Happy new year, snake farmers! I'm excited to report that Snake Farm's second major expansion, ECONOMIES OF SCALE, is out now!! This update more or less doubles the amount of content available. Let's dive into it!
NEW CONTENT
New game pack: THE WORM PACK
This expansion features two new game packs, with their own leaderboards, achievements, items, and snakes! To unlock the WORM PACK, you need to defeat all boss snakes of the curse pack (which requires beating all the boss snakes of the base game. Progression!) Some features of the Worm Pack include:

Ten new items (Scythe, Ten Gallon Hat, Tooth Bomb, Polluted Water, Patience, Ammonia, Barbed Wire, Fallow Fields, Snail Shell, Compost). Snail Shell was invented by our speedrunning competition winner, Snail!
Ten new snakes (Baby Worm, Firework Snake, Tombsnake, Mutant Lootsnake, Stone Snake, Teen Worm, Snake Snake, Reaper Snake, Gummy Worm, Colossus Worm)
A new post-apocalyptic look for the farm
The Scythe is the new core weapon available in the worm pack, and it's a ton of fun. At level one, it's a dash attack with some i-frames; at level six, it's an oil-powered death machine that lets you cross the map in seconds, destroying everything in your path. I think y'all will enjoy it :)
New game pack: THE CHAOS PACK
Once you've defeated all boss snakes in the Worm Pack, you unlock the CHAOS PACK: every item, every snake, every landscape from every pack. It's complete nonsense and I adore it. Chaos Pack is the point at which you can start breaking the game in half in any number of directions: combine Stealth Socks and Scale Mail to become permanently invincible, mix Cold Water and Polluted Water to cover the field in oil and frozen snakes, use both Patience and Eyepatch to deal over a thousand damage in a single shot. Because it's so broken, the Chaos Pack has just one leaderboard for every weapon. If you want to get to the top, you're gonna have to fight dirty.
New achievements
TEN new achievements have been added! Two for pack unlocks, and eight that focus on new content. Like always, these achievements encourage you to push the game and your skills to the limit. You're gonna hate me for this one, though:
NEW CHANGES
Balance changes

Changed endless mode so you get a new set of random snakes each day. This was a much-needed change to add some variety and challenge.
Limited Curse of Greed to 1,000 uses. You can only delay the inevitable for so long.
Changed Curse of Speed to also increase snake agility and smarts, so they don't just go rocketing off into the void.
Similarly, added a loop-around barrier beyond the edge of the map so snakes that *do* go rocketing off into the void will swiftly go rocketing back onto the map.
Misc changes

Fixed a bug where you could "end day early" on the first endless shop, letting you loop back to the day 10 shop and build curse forever. Whoops!
Fixed some localization issues
Fixed a bug where pausing on the final frame of a day would softlock the game
Changed snake death animations so they aren't framerate-dependent
Added a prompt to skip to the end of score tallying if it takes more than ten seconds
Added the ability to skip coin/curse tallying on the end of day screen by clicking the mouse once the numbers start moving
Shortened curse tick-up counter in endless mode
Added a windowed mode option -- go to the pause menu and deselect "Fullscreen" to go to windowed mode!
Added a new button in the endless shop that lets you change how many curses you buy per click: 1, 10, 100, or 1000.
Added some optimizations
Gave the corral snake in the main menu another friend :)
Oh! And did I mention the game's on sale for the Steam Capitalism and Economy Fest? It's true! We're 40% off -- probably the lowest price the game will ever be! As a reminder, ECONOMIES OF SCALE will also be featuring two new packs: the WORM PACK, which has you racing against the clock in a barren wasteland, and the CHAOS PACK, which combines all content from every pack! It's a gigantic mess and a ton of fun.

Hey, snake farmers! I'd like to welcome you to... THE GREAT SNAKE FARM SPEEDRUN CONTEST! What's speedrunning, you ask? It's the time-honored practice of playing a video game as fast as possible, then posting a recording of that gameplay on the internet! What's the prize, you ask?

THE GREAT SNAKE FARM SPEEDRUN CONTEST!
What's speedrunning, you ask? It's the time-honored practice of playing a video game as fast as possible, then posting a recording of that gameplay on the internet! What's the prize, you ask? The ability to suggest a new item for the ECONOMIES OF SCALE expansion!
Here's the deets:

Join the SNAKE FARM Speedrunning Discord (necessary for contacting the winner)
The category being run is ALL UPGRADES BASE PACK -- Collect all upgrades in the game. Time starts as soon as the main store screen loads and ends the moment you see a store screen that does not offer any upgrades. This can be done either by refreshing the store screen when no upgrades remain, or by finishing a day when no upgrades remain. You may use Endless Mode. Also, as the name implies, this MUST be done with the base pack. Curse pack runs don't count!
Also, for fairness and consistency, make sure your monitor's refresh rate is set to 60hz. The speedrun rules page will tell you how!
Anytime during the next week (December 5-December 12), upload an ALL UPGRADES BASE PACK run to the SNAKE FARM Speedrun page.
At the end of that time period, whoever is verified to be in first place will win the prize of getting to suggest a new item!
Again, make sure to be in that Discord so I can contact you to discuss the new item.
You will be credited in-game for your contribution. Your speedrunning glory will live on forever!
I reserve the right to tweak your idea/say "no that sucks/that won't work because XYZ," but will otherwise strive to achieve your vision.
Additionally, the top TEN people to participate will get a spare SNAKE FARM key for sharing with friends and family!

Hey, Snake Farmers! I'm excited to report that Snake Farm's first major expansion, THE CURSE OF RAMONA, is out now!! This update more or less doubles the amount of content available. Let's dive into it!
NEW CONTENT
New game pack: THE CURSE PACK
This expansion features a new game pack, with its own leaderboards, achievements, items, and snakes! To unlock this alternate game mode, you need to defeat all the boss snakes of the base game. (If you've already defeated all the base game snakes, it should unlock automatically.) Whenever you start a run, you'll get to choose which pack to play with! Some features of the Curse Pack include:

Ten new items (Weedwhacker, Antivenom, Snake Eyes, Scale Mail, Animal Mask, Lawnmower, Backhoe, Sidewinder Belt, Sacrifice, Carrion Flower)
Ten new snakes (Tsuchinoko, Rattler, Snakebug, Fuse Snake, Rainbow Snake, Oil Snake, Arrow Snake, Boomslang, Dragon Snake, Cobalt Snake)
A spooky new look for the farm
Endless mode
You asked for it, and here it is! Endless mode can be reached by winning day 10 with any pack. When you reach the end of your natural life, you'll be presented with the choice of continuing to the end screen... or defying fate. If you choose to live past your allotted ten days, the rules change. Instead of buying more snakes, you'll buy CURSES which make your existing snakes stronger. The longer you go, the more CURSES you need to take in order to progress, until eventually you take something you shouldn't have and get demolished. Sound familiar?
Endless mode is still a work in progress, so runs that go to endless mode won't be able to submit their scores. This is the part of the game that pushes every mechanic to its limit, after all! Be sure to let me know what clever strategies you come up with, so I can invent new curses to make your life hell.
New achievements
Seven new achievements have been added! One for unlocking the curse pack, and six that focus on the curse pack's new content.
NEW CHANGES
Balance changes

Shops now get one free reroll every day, and the item pulling algorithm has been slightly weighted in favor of items you already own. This should make build-crafting a bit easier, and take a bit of the headache out of getting a level 6 tractor.
Rare snake drops have been buffed, in order to limit the usefulness of lootsnakes in later days.
Smog snake: 25 oil -> 35 oil
Tunnel snake: 30 oil -> 40 oil
Volcano snake: 30 oil -> 40 oil
Garden snake: 40 oil -> 45 oil
Shadow snake: 30 oil -> 45 oil (also +1000 health, to bring it to parity with the garden snake)
Similarly, boss snakes have been buffed to take some of the weight off the big worm.
Bone snake: 100 oil -> 150 oil
Meteor snake: 150 oil -> 175 oil
Earthsnake: 150 oil -> 175 oil
Snake king: minions drop 3 oil each instead of 2 oil
Buffed sun hat (+100% firerate). This was one of the weakest items in the base pack, so I wanted to give it its time in the sun.
Misc changes

Added a snake counter in the bottom right corner of the pause menu for speedrunners. Now you always know how close you are to the limit!
Added a toggle fire option to the pause menu. Activating this will make it so that pressing fire will activate/deactivate your weapon, so you don't have to hold down the button in order to continuously attack.
Added the ability to skip past the final score tallying in the end screen. Click anywhere or press ESC to skip to the end of the tally!
Gave the corral snake in the main menu a friend.

Added in additional anti-cheat measures for people who weren't stopped by my very nice note asking them to not cheat! The game's backend has been updated to prevent decompiling, which should hopefully waylay most common cheating methods. With luck, there won't be any more 1mil+ scores plaguing the leaderboard!
Finally added a version marker in the bottom right of the main menu! This is the third update since launch, so we're now on v1.03!
Now, on to the REALLY big announcement: I'm working on a FREE major content update for the game! SNAKE FARM: THE CURSE OF RAMONA will include:

One new primary weapon (The Weedwhacker)
Nine new passive weapons
Ten new snakes
ENDLESS MODE (a very commonly requested feature!)
Meta-progression elements (all base game content will remain unlocked by default)
A bunch of minor UX stuff that i've seen requested
And more!!
This update is still very early in development, but I'm hugely excited for it. As previously mentioned, it will be a COMPLETELY FREE update -- more content for everybody!
