Hello again. Did everyone think I was gone? Another abandoned project?! Maybe, but not this time. This time let's talk a little about what I'm up to, and the future of Sap (again). Firstly, I am working on fresh content for Sap: School Days. Free or not, I promised new stuff and I will deliver. A slew of new cards and a slightly more performant game within the month. Sooner would be better, but I have a fair bit of "life stuff" going on at the moment.
Next up, I've made the decision to put Sap Labs on hold for the moment. It's a big project, with a huge amount of scope. I'm taking the time to carefully document the existing code base and my design docs so that when I come back to it, I know what crazy thoughts I was thinking. I very much want to work on it, but I need some funding to do so, which brings me to my last point.
Smallo! This is weird little project I dreamed up recently, which I'm referring to as a surreal point-and-click VRPG (VIBE-RPG™), set in a peculiar world filled with intriguing places and quirky characters. I'll have an ongoing devlog with weekly updates on my Smallo Itch Page. I'm keeping the scope very small so I can finish it in a reasonable time and yet ensure it is enjoyable for people to explore.
As always I would love to hear any comments or ideas,

Hello,
A few bug reports pointed me to some fixes this week, and I've gone in and refactored a significant amount of the code to allow me to fix things easier in the future. I wrote this game as my final project for my degree and at the time there was a lot more going on than just writing a game. As such I'm now able to get in and start correcting hasty code. The real purpose of this game was always to serve as a prototype or a teaser for the 'full game'. I'm extremely grateful to people playing and reporting issues, please continue to do so.
As I said previously, I'm going to shift my focus to some final corrections including saving your settings choices so they don't have to be set every time you play. After that I'm going to add in a bunch of new cards. I can't, and won't state the exact amount until I finish the build, but no less than 15 for sure.
Lastly, I've starting in on working on Sap Labs, which is to be a bigger and better version of Sap, in every way. I will likely start a devlog for those who might be interested in the process. I will not allow Sap: School Days to slip between the cracks however, so don't worry!
As always I would love to hear any comments or ideas,

Hello,
In just a short few days, Sap makes its debut. The wishlisting I’ve seen so far is crazy! I can’t wait to see what people think about it. Before it does launch I feel it’s critical to say a few things about it:
Sap is an extremely simplistic life sim that I mostly wrote as a capstone project for my Bachelors. So long as you go into it with that perspective, I think you’ll have a good time. This is more a zen lunch-break experience, less so Factorio.
While I am mostly done with the game, I am looking for feedback will do my best to provide bug-fixes and improvements where people uncover the need for them. That being said (and even given the games awful spaghetti code) I am going to release at least one big content pack for free in the near future. Depending on ongoing playtime metrics and requests, I may even shoot for two, though at that point I might charge for “DLC”.
Sap is Widows only at the moment, and will stay that way for a bit. Again, depending on demand, I will look into supporting macOS. The trash architecture for the game is already creaking under its awfully managed weight, but I might try and reimplement generic controller support.
As I said, if you’re looking for a unique, lightweight experience with a gentle pace, Sap might be for you. I am already working on a new project which promises to be a sort of spiritual sequel to Sap, and will hopefully offer a greater, more complete experience.
I’d like to preemptively thank anyone who wishlisted and/or who will play the game after lunch. I cannot wait to hear your thoughts. See you all soon,

I am beyond excited to announce Sap: School Days: a free and distinctive single-player experience for you to experiment with starting on the 18th of July!
In Sap, you're drawn into an enchanting world of ever-evolving ecology. The game presents you with a unique challenge: strategically place tiles from a diverse array of biomes and organisms to craft your ecosystem, watching as intricate interactions unfurl. But remember, your goal is exploration, not just survival. So, immerse yourself, see how many tiles you can discover before the board fills up.
Sap began as a school project during my B.S. in Game Development/Computer Science, and now symbolizes my commitment to bridging fun and learning through complexity science. As I anticipate one major content update before moving onto other projects, I would love to hear your feedback and ideas. Whether they shape Sap or inspire future games, your thoughts are invaluable. From the 18th of July, let's explore Sap together, revealing something new in every playthrough!
