Perhaps you've never heard of it, or perhaps you've heard its name whispered around the Reddit and gaming forum campfire, as internet yarn spinners tell of a mysterious, horror-inflected RPG created by former developers of Monolith's FEAR series. Back in 2021, Betrayer vanished from Steam as its creator, Blackpowder Games, seemingly shuttered all operations. Previously lost, Betrayer has suddenly, inexplicably returned, available now as a free game on GOG. With flashes of Skyrim, Dishonored, and Assassin's Creed, Betrayer is well worth a look, but what is it, exactly?

Part horror, part stealth, part open world action-adventure, Betrayer [official site] is the first game from Blackpowder, a studio that includes former Monolith employees who worked on the likes of F.E.A.R. and No One Lives Forever. Released in March 2014, it’s far from an unqualified success but Betrayer wormed its way into my mind and I found myself returning to it a couple of weeks ago.

Took us a while, but we've added two more translations. We owe special thanks to Silvia, Jesus, Oscar, and Fernando for their efforts on the Spanish translation.
You also now have the option of showing the locations of chests, page scraps, spade mounds, and other useful information on the in-game map. Markers are categorized so that you can show only the specific information you want to see. Note that if you already have a game in progress, markers won't get cleared for items you've already collected, but should still help you track down any you might have missed.
